Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, joining us is rodeo producer Greg McDonald. We've got
the Big Council blufs PRCA Rodeo coming to town Friday
and Saturday at mid America Center. And Greg, I'm normally
a pretty good judge of character, but I can also
tell when somebody has a screw loose. When I hear
that you used to ride bare back horses trying to
buck you off for a living, that's a little waco

(00:22):
if you ask.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Me, Well, you know, it's kind of all relevant. Everybody
has to pick their poison. I guess whether it's speed
or you know, I don't know. Just about everybody has
some sort of adrenaline that they enjoy, right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Hey, before we talk about the council lust rodeo, let's
go back a little bit with you. At what age
did you know you wanted to start doing rodeo and
how did you get started?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Well, I would say it was from birth. I just
you know, show up knowing I wanted to be a cowboy,
uh huh a lot of horse when I was a
kid and always got a kick out of it when
they bucked. So decided to into it and went through
the high school rodeo process, and from there started intern

(01:04):
amateur rodeos and then professional rodeos and then just something
I enjoyed.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
I tell you, these rodeo cowboys got to be great
athletes as you look at the beating they take.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, they are professional athletes, there is no doubt about it.
Strength and conditioning is a giant part about it, as
well as you know, your mental health. Just about everything
has a lot to do with your mental ability and
be able to compartmentalize and you know, see how you

(01:38):
play with fear.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Well, let's talk a little bit about this rodeo, the
Council Bluffs p rca rodeo coming to Mid America Center
this weekend Friday and Saturday. We'll give you ticket information
here in just a moment. These are the pros and
besides performing this weekend, they're trying to move on. Tell
us about that.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, there's a professional rodeo circuit. The Council Bluffs is
part of the Great Lake Circuit, which is eleven states.
So there's a circuit system. So the cowboys are buying
for points in their circuit as well as world standings,
and it basically goes by money one. So everybody's trying
to win, you know, the must money that they possibly can.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
What can the rodeo fans expecting events this weekend?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, well, we're going to have the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
You'll have bare back riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle
bronc riding, tie down, barrel racing, we'll have some bullet riding.
We also have you know, the stellar trick riding cowgirls coming,
so that'll be that'll be fun.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, tell us about the Flints Kate, Kate and Tara,
tell us about.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Them, sisters thirteen and eighteen years old. Wow, they are professionals.
They joined the PRCA back in twenty three. Tara rides
a horse that was bred to be a bucking horse
and decide he didn't want to be her horse. His
name is Mike, and he's his mother and one of

(03:07):
his full siblings are bucking at the top level at
the NFR and he just decided it wasn't for him
and went in the different directions. So now he's excelling
as a trick horse.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
That's going to be fun. Now these cowboys and cowgirls,
they're going to be performing and trying to qualify for
the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. That's the
big one, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yep, that's the super Bowl of pro rodeo.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Ten days, ten performances now top fifteen in the world qualify.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Talking with the rodeo producer Greg McDonald, what should people
know about tickets? Are there any ticket specials you want
them to know about?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, there's some ticket specials out there. Go to the
Facebook page. That's always a good place. It's Console Buffs
PRCA Rodeo. That's a good place to start. I would
buy my tickets at the Mid America Center at the
ticket office. But currently the promotion we've got Lucky for
say Happy Saint Patrick's stay to everybody, but you buy

(04:05):
three and you get one free. Promotion we got going
on right now and that will save you the ticketing
fees from buying them online if you can get them
at the at the box office at the Mid America Center.
We are looking forward to having everybody come out and
see the bud Light PRCA Council Bluffs Pro Rodeo.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Well, we're always looking for great family entertainment, and that
really is what this is about. The whole family can
come and enjoy the night, can they?

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
We have you know a few things, God Country Family.
Those are all the things that pro Rodeo stands for.
The Other thing that your patrons can do is they
can go to boot Barn or Cavenders. Currently they've got
promotions on Wrangler. If you buy seventy five dollars in

merchandise Wrangler merchandise, you get a free rodeo about you
nice one o'clock on Saturday at all the Bootbarn locations
and Cavenders and Council Bluffs and Omaha. We are going
to have some people outsigning autographs at those locations. And
remember the tickets for adults are twenty five and children

(05:17):

and younger are in for free.
