Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kat one O three points seven, you're number one for
new Country to Steven Gina in the Morning, Steve Lundy,
Gena mel Tech And this is a big day around
here in cad Country. It's all about Jason al Dean.
Today we've already had the IHIED Country World premiere for
the first time of his song how Far does Goodbye Gal?
And now we're honored to be joined by the man himself,
(00:21):
mister Jason al Dean. Jason, good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Good morning. How you guys doing.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Oh, we're doing fantastic. It's always so good to talk
to you. Congratulations on the new single.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, thank you man. Good to talk to you guys
as well. And yeah, excited to have some new music out.
It's been I don't know, I guess about a year
year and a half or so since we put out
the Howie Desserado Records. So exciting to have some new
music out and you know, thank you guys for playing it.
Something we're excited about. This is a really cool project
(00:51):
that I don't think we're going to release the album
until the early part of the whole album until early
part of next year, but we're going to kind of
drop some bread Crumbs along the Way and this one.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
So I love that. So give us some background on
this song. How did it all come about?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
You know, we're just kind of working on on songs
for the next album, and you know, we kind of
got our team of guys that goes in every day
and kind of writes for for us, and there's a
group of about I don't know, probably eight of us,
and some of the guys called me one day and
they said, hey, we just we got one that that
we think is pretty special, and so they sent it
(01:34):
to me, and it was just kind of one of
those things. Immediately, you know, I was like, man, this
is this is exactly what we do, This is exactly
what we kind of needed, and just a really well
written song and and just kind of our vibe. It's
kind of some some old school stuff and then uh,
you know, it kind of kicks in a little harder
and the you know, after the first chorus, and you know,
(01:55):
it's a little old school, little new school, and and
just thought that it was something that that I really
wanted to cut.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Well, I give it fifteen out of ten. Starts really good.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well, I'll thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Talking with Jason al Dean Jason. I don't expect you
to remember this conversation, but years ago I fell in
love with this song of yours that you hadn't released yet,
called The Truth, and I told you that and you said, man,
I love it too, and I want my record label
to record it or to release it. I think this
kind of takes this back to that kind of feel
this and that great song. Why it seems like this
(02:29):
vocal is kind of right in that same kind of groove.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah, I mean it is. It's it's a little bit
of a throwback to the early days of you know,
some of those first few albums that we cut, you know,
and just over time, I think for us it's you know,
you cut some of those things and just naturally, you know,
your music kind of moves into kind of a new
new era. You know, for us, it was it was
a little bit more rock leaning and some you know,
(02:55):
you know, even with some of the pop stuff or
whatever we were, you know, doing at the time. But
you know, it's cool to have a song like this
that that allows you to kind of go back and
you know, kind of do some some of the older
school type stuff. And there's honestly there's quite a few
songs on the album that are that are like this.
It kind of became a little bit of a theme
as we were making the album, you know, to kind
(03:18):
of go back and cut some of those things, because
it is a huge part of what I've done over
the years and a huge part of our sound, and
you know, sort of come back and have a song
like that that makes people think about, you know, some
of those first few albums. Kind of a throwback is
really cool. So I'm excited to you know, for it
to be out there and people finally get a chance
to hear it talking about all of it instead of
(03:39):
just a little being second snippet.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Talk about Jason al Dean. We're going to play his
new song how far does Goodbye Going just a moment.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Well, we're excited. You're bringing your full throttle tour next
week to link in And how in the heck after
having thirty number one hits do you choose which songs
make that suse no kidding?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Well, first of all, let me say it's a good
problem to have. The second of all, you know, I
think it's one of those things for us. I mean,
you're gonna have you your staple songs that are in
there every year. You know, She's country dirt, rode, anthem,
those kind of things, and then there's gonna be times
where it's like, man, we haven't played that song in
(04:21):
a couple of years, we should probably add that back in,
because you know, all those songs were so big at
different points in my career that you never want to
forget about any of them, you know. So for us,
it's always a thing of trying to fit those in
and maybe songs we haven't played for a year or
two will slide those in and move some things around,
maybe take something out, you know, but it's hard to
(04:43):
like say, because all those songs served a purpose, they
were all big in my career. They all still mean
a ton to me, and unfortunately we just don't have
time to play all of them every night. But that's
a good problem to have. So, you know, for us,
it's just trying to create a show we think people
want to come out and see, and uh, you know,
check most of the boxes. You know, you're you're never
(05:04):
gonna there's always gonna be somebody that's got some random
album cutter, random single. You know that that happened that
we're not playing, but for the most part, we try
to make sure we're playing all the ones that we
feel like, you know, people are coming to hear.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah, And that brings us to this question, what is
your favorite song to play on stage? Oh, you're not
really gonna I'm gonna ask him. I'm gonna ask him.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, it's it's right. For some reason, one of my
favorite ones to actually sing right now has been Trouble
to Heartbreak is one that I really love to sing,
like perform on stage, you know. But again, I mean
there's some of the big tempo things that are that
probably land the best, you know with the crowd. I mean,
(05:48):
you know, She's country, dirt Road, Flower States is always
a big one. Whiskey Drink has been a big one lately.
So you know, they're all they all kind of have
their thing. They're all a little different. But for me,
I love singing thrill a heartbreak. That's what my favorite
wants to perform.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
That's a good choice.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
You know.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
In every spring, every fall, maybe the number one request
we get for one of your songs is Amarillo Sky.
You know, it's just really resonates with this part of
the country's that's a very cool song too. You know, touring,
we're talking about you coming to Lincoln. Touring sure has
changed for you in the past, well since we met
you in two thousand and four and you had that
first tour boss. But could you at that time, Jason,
(06:29):
even imagine did you let yourself imagine to where your
career has wound up so far?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
No? I mean I think when you're getting started, you know,
you don't. I don't think you really know what to expect.
I think it's just kind of like, you know, head
down and you got a goal that you're after. You're
trying to you know my case. I mean, I've been
working on this music things that I was fourteen or
fifteen years old. I was finally, you know, twenty eight
years old, getting a chance to go out on the
(06:57):
road and do this for real for the first time.
You know, I don't think at that point you're looking
years down the road of what that looks like. I
think you're just more of looking at you know, what
does this look like? Right now? You know, I'm you
don't have any money, You're just trying to get your
career going. You're just you know, you're not looking at
oh Man and twenty years are going to be great.
(07:19):
It's like, yeah, man, six months, are we still gonna
be able to do this song? And yeah, you know,
it's just it's kind of little little steps and then
all of a sudden you turn around. You look, you're
five years in, ten years in and fifteen, twenty whatever,
and you gotta you've racked up all these hits, and
you know, it's I don't think it's something you've planned for.
(07:41):
It just kind of, you know, for whatever reason, it
connected with everybody with us, and it just kind of happened.
And so it's been a it's been a good ride
though for sure.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Hey, going back to that time, correct me if I'm wrong,
but you still have much of the same poss that
you were touring with back then, don't you.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
U? Yeah. I mean the core group of my band,
the four some of us that really kind of started
out started this thing out together, have been now playing
music together for over twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
That's incredible in this business, that's incredible.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah. Yeah. And the guys that weren't I mean even
some of the one of the guys was even around
in the beginning. He was just in a different band,
but he actually played on my first album, one of
my band mates, and then he's been around in the
band for probably fifteen years, and the other guy has
been around for fifteen years. So yeah, I mean, you know,
our crew is, you know, super loyal, and you know,
(08:33):
I've been fortunate enough to have a great group around me,
and uh, not a lot of guys, especially in my
inner circle out here, that you know, leave and go
do something else, or have used this as a step
and stolen in the early days to go somewhere else.
That was uh, you know, just kind of made a pack.
We're going to stick together and ride this thing out.
And you know, here we are twenty five years later
(08:54):
looking back at it, and it's been a good ride.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Well, you talk about their loyalty, but they obviously would
be around if you weren't so loyal either, So I
think that's very admirable.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
I was just thinking about this. When we met you
in two thousand and four, you had a broken down bus.
And now I saw your wife Brittany on Instagram a
record on the cell phone that you took a little
airplane right up to your front door. I'm like, that's amazing,
How cool is that? Lucky guy.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Yeah, it's you know, the buses can now pull you know,
they pull out them to the tarmac out there, and
so it's pretty nice. You just land and kind of
hop righting the bus and keep it moving. So but yeah,
things have definitely changed over the years and you know,
gotten better and allowed us to go out and traveling
a little more comfort. You know, we don't have twelve
(09:44):
guys on a bus anymore. It's you know, I got
a bus. It's at least for me and the family,
and you know, when the kids, my wife and kids
want to come out or well, if I have friends
want to come out or whatever, we got a you know,
extra space for them to ride, which was not always
the case. So it's been good.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Well, you've worked hard for it, and we congratulate you
and we'll look forward to seeing you this coming week
down in Lincoln at Pinnaco Bank Arena. And if you
don't mind, now, we're going to play your new song
how Far does Goodbye Go?
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, I don't mind at all. Man. Looking forward to
seeing you guys, and I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Thank you, Jason. You've been great to be with us
all these times and continued success.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Thank you guys, I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Take care of me so much.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Bye bye, all right,
