Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kat one O three point seven, you're number one for
new country. It is Steven Gina in the Morning, Steve.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Lundy, Gena Melton, We're pleased.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
To have with us a man. It's going to be
making an appearance soon here in cat Country along with
Tracy Lawrence coming up on the twenty sixth of the
Beautiful Astro Amphitheater. Josh Turner, Hey, Josh, it's a pleasure.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Good morning, Hey, good morning. How are you.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
We're doing great, Great to talk to you again.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, we're looking a little bit.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Yeah, we're looking forward to having you again. Congratulations on
your new album. Just weeks old, this country music thing
after ten albums was album day, the album drop day
is still exciting. Does it still have that buzz for you?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Oh? Yeah, you know, it's always a big accomplishment when
you when you make a record, you know these days
and you know just all the work you put into it,
and you know, just being able to finally get it
out there to where the fans can hear it and
kind of start living with it, and you know, just
seeing what they think and how they react to it

(01:04):
is always a big deal, you know, an as an
artist and as a creative person.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Now, you released your first greatest Hits album last year?
Was that hard to kind of narrow down all of
your amazing songs to include in that album?

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Uh? Yeah. But you know the fact that I even
got to that point in my career where I could
actually release the greatest Hits record was a big deal
for me, because you know, there's so many artists that
don't get to that point, and so I was. I
was very blessed and very thankful to be able to
get to that point and just you know, literally go
up on stage and promote it each and.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Every not talking with Josh Turner, going to be with
Tracy Lawrence as astrol Amphitheater coming up on the twenty
six and not just hits, but I iconic song. So
give it an example.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
We did.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
We have a contest where we play a clip of
his song for our listeners. It's called our Country Quickie,
And one week we did iconic intro songs that were
so iconic that just by playing a couple of seconds
you could tell what the song was. Like this one,
that's all we had to give our listeners, and they
knew it was a long, long black train right away.

(02:11):
I mean, just an iconic intro. Do you remember that
day in the recording studio when happened?

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah? I do. Actually that that was Brent Rowan, who
was who was playing that electric guitar part, and and
I don't remember what prompted, you know, him to do
that outside of the actual track, but but it was
just like everybody was like, yeah, that worked, you know,
so we kept it and the rest.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Of history and it is truly iconic and can't wait
to hear you sing it in concert. You got to
promise this you're doing that song right?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Yeah, I wouldn't be able to get out of there alive.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
I'm just kind of curious. You know, you were one
of the guys who came in and made people with
baritone voices feel welcome in country music. You've got such
a great baritone voice. Do you remember at what age
your voice dropped.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Or it was kind of it was kind of a process,
you know, not to bore you with the whole story,
but I basically injured my voice, you know, my senior
year of high school. And you know, it was right
during the time that I was thinking about going to
Nashville and pursuing this dream and all that, and so I,
you know, I had to work through a lot of

(03:31):
stuff vocally. But as I learned about the voice and
started going through classical training and you know, seeing doctors
and everything, you know, over a course of you know,
several years, I started to notice that, you know, I
had already had somewhat of a deep voice, but it
didn't really start to sound good until I had started
working through the injury.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
That's interesting. I thought maybe just came out of the
womb gooing.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, I tell people all the time, the first song
I ever sung was Tonight the bottle let Me Down.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
That's awesome talking with Josh Turner. Is album this country
music thing going to be in town soon on the
twenty six at the Astro and for theater. How well
did you and Tracy know each other before you started
doing this tour.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
We don't know each other that well. We've we've crossed
paths several times. I feel like we've played a couple
of shows together already. You know that we're pretty successful,
which kind of led to this, and so so yeah,
looking forward to getting back out there with him, and
you know, hopefully we can get to know each other
a little better now I.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Know, Josh that you've probably gotten to do a lot
of very cool things in your career, but performing for
NASA astronauts from mission control is next level. What was
that moment like for you?

Speaker 3 (04:49):
No kidding, I never knew that was a thing. But
we had shot the two Stepping on the Moon video
and you know, and I had already made a NASA
contact and so they were kind of helping us out
on some stuff and it was a cool collaboration. And
then next thing I know, they're they're asking if I
wanted to come and perform the song for the astronauts

(05:11):
on the International Space Station and I'm like, uh, yeah,
you know, and I didn't know what it involved or
what it entailed. And so we literally get there. It's
NASA and we're standing in this you know, mission control
room where it's got, you know, some of the most
advanced technology you can think of, and in order for

(05:33):
me to sing to the astronauts, I was literally singing
like into a telephone like you would find at your
grandma's house. It was like, what is going on here?
I was literally standing there holding the phone, you know,
in front of me and my guitar player, like it
was so crazy.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
That is so and boy, you had some of our heroes,
my heroes anyway in the video, Randy Travis, Gatlin Brothers.
How'd you get them involved?

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, So basically I had had the idea of like
having other artists that had had hits with songs about
the moon. And so, you know, obviously Rainy Trevis had
Honky Tonk Moon, and John Anderson had Mississippi Moon, and
Gatlin Brothers had talked to the Moon, and of course
you know Marty Raven from Shenandoah they had moon over
Georgia and you know, so it was just kind of

(06:26):
a cool little concept, you know, for the real country
music fans out there that would probably get that. And
so had we had a blast. I tell you what.
That scene of us sitting around the table pretending to
play poker and smoking cigars and stuff like that was
one of the coolest moments of my life. I was
sitting there like, I can't believe I'm sitting here with
these legends, you know, and just we're just having a blast,

(06:49):
just cutting up, laughing, having a good time.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
That is awesome. Talking with Josh here before I let
you go, I just got you know, I had don't
think I've ever been out to singing karaoke. When somebody
doesn't do one of your songs, it's usually why don't
we just dance? That's my son does a killer version
of why don't We Just Dance? I mean it's not Josh.
He's not Josh Turner. I mean, there's only one Josh Turner.
But and then he and I do Long Black Train.

(07:12):
But that's got to be kind of a kick thinking
that every night there's somebody out singing your songs.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Yeah, that's one thing that I've always hided is karaoke.
But I'm glad people are singing my songs out there.
I'll take your word for it.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yeah, no, that's great. Well, listen, we can't wait to
have you in town. That's coming up on the twenty
six along with Tracy Lawrence at the Astro Amphitheater. It's
a beautiful venue. You're really gonna like it, and we
can't wait to see you. Continued success, good luck on
the album, and we look forward to seeing you here
very soon.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I appreciate it, looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Thank you, Josh.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Take care all right, ye
