Speaker 1 (00:03):
I was at a basketball tournament and I was having
chronic ankle pains. So we came and I got an MRI,
and they said they knew right away that something was off.
So I was at school and I came home and
I was like, I knew something was wrong. So they

(00:23):
said that I had a six inch tumor in my
tibia from osteosarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer
that's very aggressive and spreads very fast. So we had
to get things moving. I was kind of just like shocked,

(00:45):
like I couldn't move, Like I just like this isn't real,
Like this isn't happening, But everybody else was like hysterical,
and I was kind of just sitting there. They just
a straight face.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Tell us about your experience here at hospital.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Just knowing that like everybody here is like building me up,
and like I'm like I'm down right now, but eventually
I'll be back up again and I'll be able to
do things. I'll be able to go out, go back
to school, play basketball. Now.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Recently you had your like amputated. What's that been like
adjusting to that.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
It's been really hard, definitely for basketball because basketball is
like everything so it's just been really hard.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
A lot of people are listening to this radio fan
right now, maybe somebody just like you, your age. I
feel like it makes you look at life in a
different way. How you look at life these days?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
You can't take anything for granted. You never know what's
gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
What does the staff here at Children's Nebraska mean to you?
And the care that you've gotten here?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Honestly now, they're like my face. They're always They're always
there for me when I'm down, when I'm sick, I
can always count on them to give me come up
and give me a hug, They'll play games with me.
You just like always being by my side.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
When you get better and when you're one hundred percent,
tell me what the first thing is that you're gonna do.
What What do you have that you've just been dreaming
about that you want to do.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
We're going to have a huge party and all my
nurses are going to be invited, and just have a
good time with my family and be able to wear
my leg and be able to play again.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
I'm assuming that this was what inspired you to want
to become an Earth, which you will.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah, I will. I definitely want to work on the
oncology floor, the hemonk floor, because with those kids, like
I obviously know what it's like, and when they're down,
just like my nurses did for me, I'm gonna go.
I'm gonna make them laugh and I'm gonna hang out
with them and take care of them.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
What would you say to somebody who's maybe on the
fence of that donating to the kids and families here
to get the treatments and the research and the equipment, You.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
One hundred percent should There's so many kids and families
that need it and that would just love it. And
when you're in the hospital having your crappy day and
you get something, it just makes it all okay. For
no childhood cancer isn't really talked about as much as
it should be because like we had no idea what

(03:41):
it was like. But all the kids that are not
like family to me that are up there just suffering,
people need to know and they need to be taken
care of. Because there's some that are like the sweetest
people you'll ever meet, and they're going through it right now,

(04:03):
and if you just donate or volunteer or anything, I
promise it'll meet their day.
