Speaker 1 (00:03):
Back in March, he went on a skiing trip and
Hudson had been skiing. He had had some limping and
some pain in his leg while he was skiing, but
didn't think much of it. But when we returned from
that ski trip, he fell at the playground at the
school and took him in for just what we thought
was going to be a routine X ray and ended
up being not so. April twenty first, after going through
(00:28):
a series of scans down at Children's and stuff, we
got the diagnosis of an osteosarcoma.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
It's a really hard conversation to have with your kids.
I guess a lot of people have asked us what
it's like in general, and I'd kind of liken it
to playing cards with your friends on a Friday night
and you're playing pitch or poker, all smiles, and then
before you know what, you're kind of playing fifty two
card pickup and just trying to put the hand together.
(00:54):
And Hudson, to his credit, has found a lot of
jokers and wild cards along the way to help us
put the hand together. But he's been a trooper throughout
it all.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
They moved pretty fast. We got diagnosed on April twenty first,
and on the twenty eighth he got his port placed
and started treatment pretty aggressive rounds of chemo, and then
finished about ten rounds of that and then had a
below the knee amputation on August nineteenth, had some recovery time,
and now we're back at it again at Children's with
(01:24):
the second phase of his treatment.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Well, at first you have to tell your child they've
got cancer, and then talking about taking the leg. What
were those conversations like.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
I mean, that's where you know Children's is good at
what they do. I would say Christy, she's a childlife
specialist at Children's and she has been there through all
the hard like telling Hudson he had cancer, telling him
and his brothers that he was going to lose a leg,
and their compassion and the way that they are able
to tell kids really really hard things make sure that
(01:57):
the kids stay brave and you know, get through the
really really hard.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I guess in life, you have things that you have
to do and things that you get to do. And
I think the Children's team all fits in the get
to so they don't have to go to work just
to make a paycheck. They get to go to work
and they get to help the lives of individuals like Hudson,
and I think that mentality they want to be there
(02:25):
and their care and compassion for all the kids that
children's it really reflects in the way that they care
for them.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
You were singing for me and Steve earlier, and you
like to sing.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
What else do you like to do? Acting?
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Anything with musical heating animals? DA is my favorite from
when I'm really sick in the hospital. He just hops
up on my bed or.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Just in that second phase of treatment with the amputation,
they got clear margins, no cancer above the amputation line.
And if they continue to stay queen, we'll finish out
this treatment hopefully be done by February.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
We're looking forward to a cancer free little guy.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Hudson, you are full of joy. Would you mind singing
a little bit for us? What are you going to sing.
Speaker 4 (03:11):

girl and a zombie think I third of vaguely tell
me more boy? Sounds like a fantasy Oh waka.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Goes wrong with the.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Girl and a zombie?
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Well, you are extraordinary. That is that is amazing.
Speaker 1 (03:31):

come on and donate.
