(00:00):
Hey, it's Scott Stevens from iHeartRadioand we are talking racing. Man.
What an exciting weekend it was atBristol Motor Speedway and I consider Bristol to
be a great track. But it'salso to me a warm up for upcoming
races very soon at Martinsville, becauseI love me some short track racing at
Martinsville and there's big stuff coming upApril fifth, sixth, and seventh.

(00:23):
And joining us to talk about allof that right now and more, it's
the track president, mister Clay Campbell. How are you, sir, I'm
good, Scott. How about yourself? Doing good? Doing good? Man?
What a day it was at Bristolyesterday. Wasn't that something? It
was? I don't think I'm tryingto recall when we ever saw a race
like that, and I think wehad, but that was way back.

(00:45):
Yeah. There were fifty four leadchanges and that was the most since nineteen
ninety one and that old record wasonly forty. Yeah, it's amazing.
I mean that was super. Ithink he caught everybody off guard obviously.
I mean the fires just weren't theyweren't lasting, which that's a good thing.
I mean they shouldn't last a fullfuel run, and they didn't yesterday,

(01:08):
And like I said, it caughteverybody off guard. So they were
scrambling, number one, to makesure they had enough tires to make it
through the five hundred laps. Butsecondly, what do they need to do
to back off the face a littlebit so they wouldn't be blowing a tire
and probably crashing out. So itwas an intense race. I think the
fans just got their money's worth it. It was a good one and hopefully,

(01:30):
hopefully we'll see the same thing herein a couple of weeks. I'm
not sure if that's the same tirethey're running here, but I think they're
on the right track designing a tirethat just doesn't last. Yeah, NASCAR
had to come back and say,y'all can add another set, twelve sets
instead of just eleven to be ableto make sure they could get through the
race. But I know those compoundschange, and of course driving on that

(01:53):
concrete can make a difference too.It can really eat those tires up sometimes.
Yeah. I mean, if youlisten to two the Good Year got
talking yesterday, Greg Stucker, that'sthe same tier they had in the fall
of last year and there wasn't anissue, So what changed? And I
think that's what has the powers ofbe scratching their heads, you know,
what made the difference for the rubbernot to be adhering to the track and

(02:16):
it's just chewing it up. Butyeah, that was good. So now
we turn our slights towards towards theweekend here coming up in a couple of
weeks. Can't wait for it ifyou look at it, Three premiere Theories
races in three days, no doubt. Yeah, yeah, long John Silver's
race on Friday night for the trucks, dude wives, two fifty for the

(02:38):
extenity on Saturday, then the cookoutfour hundred on Sunday, So what more
could you want? Yeah, Andof course that Friday and Saturday at night
race is starting at seven thirty andthen the cookout four hundred starting at three
in the afternoon. But we'll seedarkness before the checkered flag flies. Absolutely,
and I think that's a good thingabout this weekend. As you said,
both races on Friday and Saturday areat night started seven thirty, so

(03:00):
you got your night races then. And again you pointed out that the race
on Sunday will finish under the lights, so you know, it's the best
of both worlds. And I thinkyou're going to see three great races.
We're just we're really geared up andlooking forward to it. Yeah, and
you guys have some great specials, some great family deals to try to make

(03:21):
it a little more affordable for everybodyto come out and enjoy a great race.
I tell you what, Scott,We've got so many I was talking
someone a while ago. We've gotso many deals and different packages and I
think I say it just about everyyear there's some package and there's some ticket
here that fit your wallet, andthat's what we strive for. I would

(03:42):
recommend people going on our website atMartina's Speedway dot com and you can see
all those packages. I'm afraid toeven start listening to because I'm going to
miss something. But we've got somethingfor everybody. One thing that we just
did for people that are interested inthe sky deck, and that's the deck
down on top the sweets down inone and two. That has been where
you walk out there and you stand, you got a drink rail and you

(04:06):
stand there and watch the race. That's you and all the motorsports. We
are putting chairs up there now soyou don't have to stand for three hours.
And we have a limited number ofseats I say seats prior to that.
We have a limited number of seatspaces left. But we got a
limited number of seats up there.Go online and check that out. It's
a heck of a queu. Yougot food and drinks, you got couches

(04:29):
and chairs on the back deck. It's pretty cool. But we decided,
hey, we want to put chairsup there. Our fans have spoken that
it's a long day to stand,so we corrected that one. But so
many other things. We're celebrating RickHendrick's fortieth anniversary. You will definitely know
it's Rick Hendrick's fortieth anniversary when youget here. We've got a lot of

(04:50):
things going on around that they wereactivating. You know that this race in
nineteen eighty four is what started HendrickMotorsports. Have they not won that race
with Jeff bo'don, they probably wouldn'tbe in existence today. They had to
win that race and they did soit's pretty special. Jeff will be here,
Jeff Gordon and Jeff bo'din will beour honorary starters, Grand Marshalls,

(05:13):
Rick Hendricks want to drive the pacecar. Pretty cool. We're celebrating Richard
Petty's seventy fifth anniversary. Wow,some things around that. So it's just
going to be an action packed weekend. Was something to see and do in
the time you get here till thetime you leave, no doubt about it.
I mean you talked about the skydeck, which I got to see media
day a couple of years ago, what that experience was going to be.

(05:33):
Like, there's other great experiences thatyou can sign up for as well to
make your days complete at Martinsville Speedway. Absolutely, And like I say,
the best way to do is ifyou want to talk to somebody, give
us a call eight seven seven Raceticks our A C E T I X.
We can walk you through everything thatwe've got to be glad to fix
something that's suitable for you. Orgo on line at Martin's Speedway dot com

(05:56):
and see everything you get, seewhat we've got going on on the time,
on the schedule, Like I say, three action pack days and hey
it's about here, so we're justabout ready. Well that's awesome. So
it's Friday, April fifth, that'sthe long John Silvers two hundred for the
Truck Series. Then Saturday Night theDude Wipes two fifty for the Infinity and

(06:18):
the Cup in the Cookout four hundredcoming up on Sunday, April seventh.
Make it a whole weekend at Martinsville. That's what we like to do here
on the radio, and I thinkyou'll enjoy it as well. Good talking
to you as always, Clay, and we'll hit you up just before the
race the week of the race tosee what else is going on. Found
good. I look forward talking toyou again all rank you, Thank you, sir,
