Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the after show decompression session doing what they do best,
clapping their gums. O kid, okay, we are back KILLO.
Just when you thought you were through with us here
today it was safe to go online. Yeah, all happened.
(00:22):
Do you know you know what tomorrow is?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Friday?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Yeah? No, that is the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina
hit right. Yeah, Now you'all know, New Orleans has been
my second home for a long time, and it got
hit hard and it really upset me. Jimmy and I
flew down to New Orleans about a little over.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
A year after it happened, and it was still recovering,
wasn't it.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
We drove all around, especially by the lakefront, which is
where a lot of us used to hang out. That's
where Zebra used to play, and we go there all
the time. And I saw how tor up it was,
and I just I went back home and I went
into the bathroom and I fucking cried, Oh man, I did,
because I was so upset. But then I go back
(01:11):
about five or six years later, everything was back to normal.
That's good.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
A trammet area of New Orleans got hit super hard.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yeah, wards, huh huh. Even after the water receeds, you've
got black mold all over your home in nooks and crannies.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Well but killia.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
The homes were like just they said, there's nothing you
could do. You're just gonna have to bull dover.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
That's what I saw, and I went, oh, my god,
I can't believe this ship.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Well, it's a very unique, beautiful place. You know, it's
the kind of place that an AI program would never
be able to spit out. It has organic stank thrown
on it, and it's a wonderful destiny history.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
It's been around for so long. It was one of
the biggest ports of entry for so long for commerce.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah. I did a lot of growing up there, and
I did a lot of fucking up a lot. I mean,
I was fucking up. Do you know.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
That's where my father's family came to the United States,
through that New Orleans port from Mexico. Yeah, they took
a ship from Vedaicarus, Mexico, to New Orleans because my
grandmother's brother started what is now like the World Trade
Center in New Orleans. Huh, So my grandfather, his brother
in law, went to go he went to go work
(02:34):
for his brother in law.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Now, one thing good that happened. Out of that, Drew
Brees flew down. Coach Peyton took him riding around and
he saw the devastation. He said, I'm here to help.
God damned if he didn't give us a Super Bowl win.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
He did and exactly what you needed. Because at that time,
if I remember correctly, they thought that they were going
to move the New Orleans Saints to San Antonio because
the owner had a bunch of car dealerships in San
Antonio and he thought, hey, there's no way that we'll
ever be able to play in New Orleans again. But
no New Orleans stepped up.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Tom Benson said, we ain't moving, Nope, nope.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
And what's the Saints' home stadium down their Superdome, the
Mercedes Benz Superdome. That was so sad to see that
people were fleeing there for refuge. But at the same time,
if you wanted to go in there to get some
kind of help, you had to pass by people that
were passed away and covered up with plastic all over
(03:39):
the place. There's so many people that died, either from
being old and sick from it all or whatever that
they couldn't immediately do anything about.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
It infrastructure to bring in all the help that's slow coming.
What I remember is that for years ahead of Katrina,
they kept talking about how they needed to shore up
the infrastructure around New Orleans.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
New Orleans is like a big bowl. Yep, yep. So
the water. I mean it flooded twice a year when
I was there. I mean, not not that bad, but
it was still like, oh shit, I gotta go down
this road instead of that road because that road's underwater.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
And when it flooded, it smelled bad.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
When the water receded. Because I lived over by Lake
poncha train, there were little baby sharks in the road.
Oh there's fish in the streets, and snakes too that
were misplaced and died land shark. Do you have a
HBO Max, Uh No, I don't.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
There's a hell of a documentary on Katrina about it.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
I don't want to watch it, heartbreaking in detail. I
don't want to.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
We have so many people who now called North Texas
home because they fled New Orleans. I remember volunteering a
whole group of us for our nine eleven Day of Service.
We've volunteered for the Salvation Army and the Red Cross
downtown to help out the refugees, the people that came
from the New Orleans area.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Little Elm has got tons of families that fled here
and continue to have their families and their babies and stuff.
Little Elm Denton County area up there, along three eighty
all those neighborhoods. At the time that Katrina happened, it
wasn't bustling and all construction land like it is now.
It was like a laid back, low cost place to
move to. So, yeah, there's a lot of post Katrina
(05:32):
families in Little One.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Of the Cajun restaurants that are here in North Texas
are those Katrina survivors that moved up to North Texas.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
And thank you for bringing the good food with you.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Yeah right, exactly, Yeah, damn good, damn good.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah. Wow. Twenty years ago, I had a lot of
history with the super Dome with you just mentioned. I
saw many many shows there. Yeah, I saw one.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Do you remember them?
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Yes, just barely. And I will admit here and now
that I snorted blow in a restaurant or No, it
was in the Superdome bathroom with a very famous person.
And I'm not gonna say who it is. I'll tell
you off air.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
No, was it peer pressure?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
No, I wasn't peer pressure, he offered. They had just played.
Is it okay? So I'm in there with I tell
you after after the show.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
You know, I'm not saying that it was Glenn Hughes
by any means. But back in those days before Glenn
got clean and Christian and sober and all that, he
was not only abusing cocaine, but his favorite thing to
do would be to pour a gram of cocaine into
a shot of whiskey.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
And it back. Stevie ray Vaughn did yes, And when
he started throwing up blood, he said, maybe I should
quit this ship. Not a good idea. Good to be alive. Yeah,
you got to leave that ship alone when you get
a certain day.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Are you feeling brave?
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Okay, let's let's see who it is. Hello, boning them show, Hello,
boning them show.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
Good morning this Diana. Because I know Anna's got a date,
a date, Rodney, don't you lunch date with Amanda? No?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Oh no, no, no, I'm taking her out on Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
Wednesday, Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
No, but you were right. I did say I was
going to take her to lunch. I'm going to take
her to lunch as a thank you because of what's
going on today.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Yes, well, I love her. I'm so happy Rodney Carrington.
I had forgotten he was a country singer until you
did that.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
And I'm thinking, yeah, he's got some pipes on him.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
He's like a combination of George Straight and Larry the
Cable Guy.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
I love his songs.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
And the thing is is that sometimes with his songs,
you think it's a regular country song and then he
has a curveball at you.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
He throws that smart assness in there.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I love so much.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
What a voice on that dude. I'm jealous. Well, now
I hope he gives me a call when he comes
to town because I hadn't seen the ball in almost
a damn day.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
I need to send that email if.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
We can get TOMP tickets. But you know, yes, I'm
going to uh probably call in on the Aska stuff
to tell you about the worst job.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Oh please do, please do?
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Oh my god? All right, Well, I'll talk to you later.
Speaker 4 (08:30):

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Where the needness person ever for radio?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Right? She is on the ball, lucky.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
She needs to start buying lotto tickets. And if you win, Diane,
you got to share the wealth.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Damn right, believe that ship.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah, that woman has more of a social calendar at
her age than anybody I've ever seen. She is out
and about on weeknights and weekends, and I don't think
she goes more in a couple of days without going
back out and doing something else. If it's not a concert,
then a dinner, or she is one adventure after another.
A man, I hope I can have that.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Kind of entity.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
And she's always trying some great restaurants to Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Okay, guys, I need to deal with all these words.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Oh, I'm sorry, Anna, I'm sorry you get ship like
that sometime.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Hey, Honestly, Amanda Brasswa is the biggest blessing for the
past what year?
Speaker 2 (09:28):
She helped me. Yeah, they asked her to help me out,
and she.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Helps you when things fall through the cracks that shouldn't
fall through the crash. She's one of the best in
the business.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
She's such a cutie pie and like, I'll take her
out to lunch and I go, I don't, I can't
tell you how much I appreciate you, and she goes.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
I like doing it. I like telling people what to do.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
And you know, Amanda will be a really cheap lunch
date right now. Because she's about to get married, she
won't eat anything. Oh, Amanda, there's donuts in the kitchen.
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no really yeah yeah,
