Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the after show decompression session, doing what they do best,
glabbing their gums.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
How are you holding up today, Banana Bell, It's been
a long day.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
I couldn't sleep last night. Uh oh, No, it was
my puppy.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Because you knew that today we were going to have
extra layers of pressure. Is that what kept you tossing internet?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (00:21):
And no.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
I kind of feel like since March and April and
May of this year, you and I have kind of
learned the ropes of what to do when Bowie's.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Gone trial by fire.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
But no, I'm just really missing my dogs. Yeah, it
seems like mornings and nights are the toughest.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I was out at a gig recently, I guess it
was over at Rock Island auction House and a dog
conversation started and this listener wanted to see my dogs.
They also wanted to see bow and Anna's dogs, and
I had those pictures because sadly, right before we lost Jasper,
there was a reason dog Day. Yeah, so we all

(01:01):
had the pictures collected in one text message and I
showed him and I remember looking at Jasper's face and
just going damn, I wish I would have gotten a
chance to meet him, because he was a cute little
son of a bitch.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Man, sweetheart, and he had the best wardrobe ever.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, he did. He was really lucky to have you
as a mom. And if it's a little bit too
early to say this, I apologize, but I think there's
another deserving dog out there sometime when you're ready, that
would be really lucky to have you in its life.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
So there's this survey out there about people who believe
in love at first sight with animals, Okay, and so
we were asked as a group whether we believed it,
and I said yes, because I know for a fact
that I did not pick Jasper. Jasper pick me, even
though he was a gift from my brother and my

(01:49):
sister in law. That I know that that dog was
meant for me. And I fell in love with him
immediately because I kept telling my brother my sister in law,
I'm not a dog person. Love dogs, but my lifestyle
it's not good for dog ownership. I have a cat,
I'm perfectly fine, and they're like, you need a dog,
you need a dog. And then just as soon as
I saw him, I was like, Yeah, that's my.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Boy, And what a heartbreaker. Of a face too, like
he wasn't this. But let's just pretend for the sake
of argument for a second that Jasper was just a
total grouchy asshole. Okay, you look at that face and
you go, all right, I'll let it go. I love
you anyway, like a little.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Old man face, kind of like your dogs. But are
they shit sues or lost ops.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
One guy is a mix between Sheetsu and hobbin Ease,
the bigger, older one and then the younger one is
malty Sheetsu very close.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yeah, so they have that little old man face going
to yeah, shaggy hair.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, sort of like a toy that came to life.
When they have longer hair, at least they look like
a Teddy bear or something. But speaking of like falling
right away for a dog. I remember it was about
five years ago. My former spouse, myself, my daughter Chloe,
we all went to this place in Arlington to look

(03:09):
at Bear and he was a brand new puppy at
that time, and he was part of a litter of
about four of the same identical things. There was blond
ones and black ones and everything. But we show up
at this lady's house, our whole family, we knock on
the door, and the three dogs, the three puppies come
running to the door to meet us. Right, so my
wife squats down and puts her keys on the ground

(03:32):
in order to pet one, and Bear specifically snatched her
keys up in his mouth and ran and hit him
under the couch. And we looked at the lady and said,
we want that one, We want that little bugger. Yeah.
And now he is so big that I can just
barely hold him with two arms, oh man. And he
was the size of a cannabiscuits when we got him. Yeah.

(03:54):
So he is fifty percent of the way through his
expected life at life length of fifteen years. He's at
the halfway mark now, and that breaks my heart. I like,
we're trying to make the most of the ury.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
I mean, the last year has been scary, you know.
And in Jasper turned fifteen, which they say that the
life expectancy of a Yorkie is eleven to fifteen years.
So he lived a full life. But still I feel
so guilt. I just wish I could have kept him
at least for twenty years.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
He had a home, he had love, warm food, water, toys,
he had a family, He was treated right he was spoiled.
Well he's up there going get it either, dog, you
should get to I don't want you to be lonely.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
How many people have sent me pictures and I'm just
I'm just not ready. Maybe at Christmas time, but okay,
right now, I just can't. So a friend of mine
had sent me a picture of a dog that was
at Operation Kindness, and I went to their pet adoption center,
which was at a PetSmart.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
That was probably two weeks ago. Now I think okay,
and I just into tears. Yeah, I kept thinking it's
it's not Jasper. So I'm just not ready.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Just well, that's okay. If Christmas is the time for
you to be ready, I hope you won't be shy
about asking me if you need any help with anything.
I've got extra crates and other ways I can help.
But I'll be around at Christmas.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
I'm not the only thing that I've gotten rid of
of Jaspers. It's been his shampoo, which I gave you
because he had had bad allergies, so he had medicated
shampoo from an allergy specialist. And I'm lucky that I
was able to do that. Randy James is the one
that actually recommended the allergy specialist because Jesse James, his
dog had gone. Oh I think it might have been

(05:40):
the other dog, his older dog that passed well.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Thank you both. That product was top shelf for sure.
You gave me like anti itch sprays too.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
You have moose a moose, and so I got rid
of and I also got rid of his medications because
you can't return those. He had eye He had eye issues,
so he had drops morning and at night, and so
I had to throw all that stuff away. But really
that's the only thing I kept, the puppy pads. I'm
keeping all the stuff because I'm keeping my heart open
for when the time is right.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Got a girl, We're proud of you. You took it
very very well. If I would have had to go
through what you went through, I would not have made
it to work that morning, and I probably would have
ended up in the er at least for a few hours.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
And here's something interesting, and I don't know if anybody
any of the rasculs know about this, but I was
told by a friend that I should put in requests
now because they say that especially with YORKI rescues, and
I kind of think I want another Yorky okay, But
if an animal speaks to me, then that means it
was meant to be. But I want another Yorkie because

(06:39):
I had one for fifteen years. So you need to
kind of act in advance, they said, because the rescue
groups are so strict that they were like, look at
your lifestyle that look at your home. If you have
a doggy door, you might not be able to get
the animal. It was like, I would think that a
doggy door would be a plus. Now I was not
letting Jack for use a doggy door because the cat

(07:03):
learned how to use a doggy door, and we have
coyotes and bobcats in the neighborhood. You don't want to
so I've shut that down. But yeah, they say that
they're super strict and so you should start putting in
applications now because chances are you're going to be you know, rejected.
They're going to swipe left on you a lot. I
know just what I need. Rejection.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Well, I think you'll get accepted once they wrap their
head around who you are and the way that you
run your life. I think it'll be fine. But every
time I see a notification on social where there's a
pet shelter and it's overfilled, and they're trying to urge
people to show up in big numbers and grab these dogs.
I get worried sick for the dogs because I'm like,

(07:44):
what if it's sickos that show up and they've got
the cash or whatever and they just want to get
them out the door and make space for more dogs.
I'm glad that there's some sort of screening process out there,
and I really wish there was more of that.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Yeah, the dogs, I know, like the SPCA and Operation
Kindness or do their due diligence. So I'm happy about
that because, like you said, a lot of people would think, so,
I guess Petco is only they're not adopting out bunny
rabbits anymore. Really, that only you can adopt them, So
no more new rabbits. It's only adoption rabbits because PETA

(08:22):
cracked down on them and was sending them nasty emails.
So okay, you know, but then a lot of people
were like, oh, but still that opens it up to
sickos getting them. Yeah, some people like Glenn close from
fatal attraction.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, look what happened to that poor rabbit. You know,
you get around Easter, and a lot of families, sometimes
families that have a little bit too much money on
their hands, they'll end up just grabbing a baby rabbit
for a gift for their kid at Easter, and the
next thing you know, a year has gone by. The
rabbits craps are bigger, they're more work, and then they
get blown off. Yeah, and we don't want that. We

(08:58):
don't want that for bunnies, or.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Don't want to put those kind of bunnies out in
the wild too.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
No, No, for the same reason that like, there's tiger
sanctuaries north of town here I used to volunteer at.
And yeah, they're beautiful animals, and you might get a
little bum that they're in a pen that's only the
size of a two bedroom house.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
You can't take them into the wild.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
You can't put them back out there because they're domesticated.
They're used to having a hunk of meat thrown over
the fence at them and being cared for. They don't
know how to go out there and survive hard, you know.
So it's it's the same thing for the other animals too.
Are they here going to be just fine? And the
next chapter I think it's going to have overseeing and

(09:37):
guidance by the spirit of that dog.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
I will say, Katie Purry the cat, I think she's
really enjoying being the only.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
God you do what I want to get strussed though.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
It's taken over all of Jasper's places in that house,
including his little crate.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Okay, well, it sounds like maybe she misses him somewhere
inside too, because his smell is still there.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
I would hope so.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, I would hope so too. Anyways, well, I know
you've got a few things to do today, but I
hope you get caught up on your sleep. You did
a fantastic job today.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
We had a busy morning, you and I and we'll

tickets to give away as well.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
That's right, there's going to be back in the eight
forty slot next week. They will include Corny corn We
had to go out back behind the barn and look
in the corn dog ben and we dug around in
the bugs and stuff, and we found a few more
corny dogs. So we're going to give those away.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
I will wipe them clean before we get into Hey,
you're going to the State Fair on Sunday, aren't you.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I am the kiddo and her boyfriend and I are
going to ride in. We're going to see Ian munsick.
We're going to hit a couple of rides and I
can't wait. I'm going to walk away fatter and awful tire.
I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Almost due for another jollepenno cheddar corny dog. I might
see you out there on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
