Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hi. This is my podcast and my name is Brett Saunders.
My guest this week the Star of Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Dune,
Sex and the City. I'm told Kyle McLaughlin has a
new podcast. What are we even doing?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I am good Brett. How you doing today?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
It is such a pleasure to meet you. You're one
of those guys. I told my wife last night I
was going to be interviewing you, and she was all
excited because of Sex and the City, and I said,
what in the meantime, you know, I know everything about
all your work with Man, the incredible work with David Lynch,
and even like the ultimate eighties movie, which was The Hidden.

(00:41):
I mean, you've done so much diverse work, and I
guess my point is you make a lot of different
kinds of people happy.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
That's very kind. Thank you, thank you, thanks for bringing
up The Hidden. That is a classic eighties picture.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Oh it's the ultimate eighties film. I mean it's right
next to RoboCop. It's that good.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I love it. I love it. Thank you, nice company.
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
So you have this new podcast. It's a solid existential question. Kyle,
What are we even doing?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Tell me about it.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Oh my God. Well, this is basically it's me sitting
down with a young young creatives and millennials gen X
and having conversations about the creative process. It's kind of
as simple as that. And this is not an explosa,
this is not gossip. This is just about what moves them,
how they started, what was the core memory, the core

(01:30):
beginning for them. Also, you know how they use social
to enhance their their career and I get to we
get to sit and really trade stories, and that's it's
just that. And I speak with actors, models, musicians, photographers,
with will Of Bennett, who's the editor in chief at Cosmo.

(01:52):
Just a variety of different people doing interesting things.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Speaking of socials, I've been looking at some of your
social media. You're not afraid to go for it every time.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
I'm leaning into the silly. What can I say?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Also, I wanted to mention, do you have a brand
of wine. It's called Pursued by Bear? What does that mean?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Kyle Pursued by Bear? Well, I borrowed Shakespearean stage direction
for the name of the brand. He wrote a play
called The Winter's Tale and in Act three, Scene three,
he wrote exit Pursued by a Bear and I said,
I'm going to steal part of that and I'm going
to name my wine company Pursued by Bear and I've
been added since two thousand and five. We make around

(02:35):
pretty small production four thousand cases, but we're based in Walla,
Walla and it's a wonderful wine. It's a playful name
with a very serious wine inside.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Kyle McLaughlin, is there anything that you can't do? Sir?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
You know, ping pong is challenging for me, but I'm
working on it.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Hey, going back to the podcast, who are some of
the guests we can exp as this is being available?

Speaker 2 (03:02):
So I well, today we speak with Kaya Gerber, Cindy Crawford,
and Brandy Gerber's daughter. I also speak with Benny Skinner,
who is my not my co star, he's actually the
lead of the series. Over Compensating. A wonderful guest, a
wonderful comedian, Grace Koolan Schmidt. She is hilarious. She comes

(03:27):
out of the Chicago area. So we kind of running
the gamut of different people. I had a wonderful conversation
with will A Bennett, who's the editor in chief of Cosmo.
So these are all up and coming interviews that will
be dropping every Thursday we come up.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
What do you get out of this, Kyle? It sounds
like you're really extending a hand of friendship to a
new generation.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
You know. It's the it's the joy of the conversation,
the creative conversation. I'm so curious about how people start,
what what moves them, what motivates them, where they where
they you know, how they create a character, let's say,
or where they find their inspiration. And in that conversation,
I don't know, I just get I get buzzed, you know,
and I get to share my experience and my stories

(04:07):
and we have kind of this, you know, when you
connect with somebody in a way, in a creative way
that's sort of unexpected, and it really just is very fulfilling.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
What are we even doing as the podcast? Hey, Kyle,
before I let you go, I only met David Lynch
one time and I found him to be delightful. It
just really the nicest guy. Could you share a couple
of memories with our listeners about working with him, because
I don't know about you, and I'm sure this is
the case for you. I didn't even know him, and
I'm still not over his passing.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Oh, bless you. Yeah, I feel exactly the same way.
In fact, when the pictures came up online of the
house and there selling the house, and I remember there
was a photo of his fireplace, and I remember the
time when I was over visiting and he was making
a fire and I asked him about how he did it,
and he was showing me how you start with these
little shavings of fat wood, you know what I mean,
and then you have your kindling. And he didn't use newspaper.

(04:59):
He just did everything natural. He was an eagle scout, right,
so he knew how to build a fire. And he
had all the proper tools, a little brush and a
little paring knife and this stuff. And so I went
out and I got all the stuff, and that's how
I build my fires.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Now, I don't think you can give somebody a bigger
compliment than that. It's like that that line about teach
a man to fish.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
M Yes, and once you can build a fire, you
can then cook that fish.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Well, it's really a pleasure to finally get the chance
to talk with you. I want to mention again. The
podcast is what Are We Even Doing, which is available
on the iHeartRadio app and everyplace else you get podcasts.
Kyle McLachlin, really nice to talk with you.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Thanks, Thanks, Brett, nice to be here, Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
On, and thank you for being here. I'm Brett Sonders.
