Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Matthews Honda Akura High School Game of the Week
all Right high School basketball Magic ninety five to nine.
Here at Carrie is celebratory mode here in Blue Devil
Country as Carrie gets the win fifty seven or fourteen
over Cardinals Stritch and joined by Reagan Kessler, one of
the seniors for the team. And first of all, just

(00:22):
give a little assessment about how the team was able
to perform in this game. Seemed to take control early
and keep on pushing from there.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, we went into practice knowing we can't take anyone lately,
and we just kind of played how we knew we
could play, and we practiced really hard throughout the week.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
No breaks, oh, no breaks. Yeah, you just go for it, right,
and it looks like you have that type of conditioning
and ability to go out there just the whole way
in with Reagan Kessler. As we know, Riley Yost was
out today, not even here in the building, senior point guard.
I think it's only a second time she's missed a
game career. Thinks she missed one as a sophomore. But yeah,

(01:03):
I hope she feels better soon. Dealing with illness. How
did you have to adjust without Riley, you know, being
here in her absence.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, we've kind of just went into the game knowing,
let's play for Riley because we don't want this to
be our last game. And we made McKinley the freshman
point guard, and we also made Rachel point guard and
like in order for a spot, and we made sure
not to we don't want to try and like replace her,
like we know, everyone does a different thing, so we

(01:33):
just kind of did our own thing.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Okay, right on again with Rake and Kessler senior for
the Carrie Blued Devils. What can you say about some
of the freshmen who have stepped in And you know,
Bella Phoenix obviously has done well and McKinley Kessler obviously
you know her very very well. How they've just been
stepping up so quickly this season it seems.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, they're they're not shy, they know what they want
to do on the court, they really take control. They're
just really great freshmen to bring up.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah, and that seems like they have been a big
help this season. And Reagan want to ask about the
defense because yeah, you obviously get out there, you get
a lot of steals, so do your teammates Cordnal streetch
averages thirteen and a half turnovers per game. Well they
did this season or season just came to an end
twenty seven turnovers against you. Wow. So what can you
say about that type of defensive pressure that you and

(02:23):
your teammates put on.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, at the beginning of the game, we kind of
ran some half cores, we did presses, and then we
kind of went into fifty trying to get the defense
like the offense not able to score. And then at
the end of the game we kind of backed off,

(02:45):
but we always went in defense first.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Defense wins games, so it sure does and it definitely
won the game for you and to carry Blue Devils
today again with Reggi Kessler just won more for you.
And then you go and celebrate the sectional title with
your teammates. The net is already down, so you already
did that. So up next, I'm not sure whether you're
going to play oh More, wood More or Northwood where

(03:08):
that game's over or not, it's one of those two teams.
Just some thoughts of getting ready for that next round.
Like you said, can't overlook anybody always got to be ready.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
So yeah, there you go. Do you know anything about it.
Either one of these teams. I know you didn't play
either one of them this season.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Now we kind of just go into the mentality do
this game first, then next week we'll focus on the
next team and so forth.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
All Right, you got to be a quick study when
this tournament time. But I know, yes, you and your
teammates will be ready. Well, hey, great talking to you, Reggie.
Congratulations on the win and hope to see you for
a nice long run here in this district here to
the number one seed. All right, thank you. Reggan

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
