Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Morning Breeze. This Morning Breeze on demand. It's Taylor Dane.
I'll always love you. Six twenty. Good morning, it is
the Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court. We are right
on time to get it started for the Morning Breeze
Brain Teas. We do it every weekday morning at six twenty,
especially on a Monday. I feel like this is very helpful.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Some people wake up, they touch their toes, they do
some stretches, nobody does. Nobody touches their toes.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
You don't wake up the morning first thing and touch
your toes. So seventy day, okay to you every single morning.
The last time I was able to touch my toes
was probably elementary touch.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
I touched my toes and then I do that. This
little piggy went to the market, piggy went home.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Okay. Morning Breeze Brain Teas every weekday morning at six twenty,
sponsored by My Council Plumbing. You're in clean hands with
My Council Plumbing and we will or you can visit
them at mc plumbing dot com. All right, let's hear
the question again.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Health experts say doing this in a brisk manner for
thirty seconds can make you more alert.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
We are at eight seven seven nine eight one oh
nine eight one. It's Kathy and Alameda. Good morning, Happy Monday.
What is your gas? Adjust your neck? Adjust your neck? Oh,
like you kind of want to crack it? Yeah? I
a reason neck cracker? Have you?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I don't want to be you want to be happy.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
They say cracking your neck is not good for you. Really,
I've heard somebody say that, Wow, do.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
You crack your neck? Kathy? No, I don't, do you
court it? I do, and I shouldn't. It's not good
for you. I heard.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Oh, and it sounds horrible and it never makes me alert.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Yeah, but it's not the correct answer. Okay, I think
that's a really good guess, though it's not the correct answer.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Thank you very much. You're welcome. All right, Sarah in
San Francisco. What is your guess for the brain tease?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Were you putting yourself on the face?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Slap your face self on the face?
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Do people actually do that? I see like comics do that.
But do people really slap themselves in the face to
wake them?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
They?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
I bet you they do.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Have you ever done that?
Speaker 5 (02:02):
I have?
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Oh my gosh, people do do that you're a living proof.
Flap yourself in the face, pinch yourself, maybe it seems
like such an I love Lucy move like something Lucille
ball Or would have done. And slapping your face for
thirty seconds briskly. That's a lot of slacks. You got
some issues.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I don't think I do it that long.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, I'm gonna say one one slap should do the trick. Okay,
I think it's safe to say that's not good.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
What's the answer to this, one Greig answer is clapping
your hands in a brisk manner for thirty seconds can
make you more alert.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Oh wow, less painful.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Okay, So hands instead of your face really okay for.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Thirty seconds, I guess you were closed. Yeah, I mean
similar motion, just your face isn't in the way. Okay, Sarah,
that was fun. Thanks for playing.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
And I should tell you this, Carolyn, because I am
privy to like you know these brain teases. I knew
this was coming up. Over the weekend. R my wife,
wife and my kids were driving a few places. We
had some long road trips. Yeah, and at a certain
point I started getting a little tired, and I thought
to myself, I need to clap my hands briskly for
thirty seconds. You did not, but I was also driving.
(03:19):
I didn't, so say either I'm clapping my hands briskly
for thirty seconds while driving, which isn't safe, or I'm
driving a little sleepy, so what'd you do? Drinks of
coffee and then I was fine.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
The good old fashion stop at seven to eleven, never hurt,
that'll wake you up. I love it, Oh to the system.
I love it. Morning Breeze brain Teas. We do it
every weekday morning at six twenty right here on the Breeze.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Something else we do on the regular here on the
Morning Breeze is something we do on Fridays happens just
after seven o'clock where we announce somebody new as our
Morning Breeze Person of the Week. You have so much
time between now and Friday to get us your nominations.
Think about even an interaction you had over the weekend
and with somebody that did something nice for you. Are
they're always doing good things for others. Those are the
(04:05):
people that we want to hear about for our Morning
Breeze Person of the Week. Yeah, it's a celebration of
the unsung heroes of the Bay Area. As Carolyn mentioned,
people doing good things but not being recognized for those things.
Will take care of the recognizing also award them brush
for two on the Bay courtesy of City Cruises. So
get those nominations in on our website. Ninety eight one
The Breeze dot Com atrees.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Great way to start off a Monday morning. Michael Jackson,
six forty two, Good morning, It is the Morning Breeze
with Carolyn and Port Carolyn.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Last week, I was doing some yard work and no,
that's not the responsible, old, you know, grown up thing
that I was doing, because I've done yard work for years. Sure,
but I'm trying to create that defensible perimeter around the house,
you know, keep the house safe and sure pace of
a wildfire, as they say.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Good.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
So I was working on vines and weeds and branches
that are just too close to the house and just
really struggling, and I thought to myself, you know what
would really solve the problem here. It's a good old
fashioned fashion machete. You know those big knights that people
go into the jungle using. Know what a machete is?
(05:12):
Just do you own one?
Speaker 5 (05:13):
No?
Speaker 1 (05:13):
I didn't own one. One. I did not I did
not own one at the time.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
So I ran on down to my local hardware store
and I said, excuse me, sir, could you put me
to the machete department.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Gosh, they sell machetes. Ah, yes they do. Oh yeah, yeah,
I have so many questions about this. Okay, great, pretty
great selection. So you bought a machete, bott a machete,
went up, asked Crandy first before you went and bought
the machete or just getting the old family truckster and
(05:47):
go down to the hardware store, I think I told
her after the fact, right, that checks? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:52):
And uh but yeah, would they verify that you're eighteen
years old when you're buying a machete? But they should. Good,
the guy says to me. He says, says, you're eighteen right,
Oh my gosh, thank you for asking. Thank you brought
that machete home.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
How did it work? Not as great as I thought,
it did not, did not accomplish and now you own.
I had this vision in.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
My brain of just going out there and it was
just gonna be slicing through things like butter.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Right, like you're living in the forest and you're just
like forging for food. And I was like, yeah, exactly that.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
I'm I'm an explorer making my way through the jungle,
you know, just chopping things down left.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
And right, finds and weeds at your house with a machete.
I had.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
The best thing, though, is because my dad had a
machete when I was younger and it was hidden. He
would hide it in the garage because there's seven boys
in my family, and as he should have, we always
figured out where it was. So here I am now
the new owner of a machete that didn't work that well,
and I'm hiding it in my garage because the girls
are not going to borrow your machete. I can assure
(06:58):
you I did show it to them, and they were
not as impressed with it as I thought they would be.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
I'm not surprised to hear that at all. Where are
you storing this machete in your garage?
Speaker 5 (07:08):
Now?
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I put it behind a couple of boxes, and chances
are I'm going to forget about it in years from now.
I'm gonna be like, oh, I own a machete. Okay.
That's a really funny story. And the amount of times
the word machete has been mentioned on this show this
morning already is too many times.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
I prefer to call them machetes, but I chose not
to for this story today.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
For you don't do that as well. That's a funny story.
Though we're at eight seven seven, nine, nine eight one.
You could call us any time or send us a
message with our iHeartRadio app as well, remember.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Those that phone number and that way of communicating with us,
because coming up this morning at about seven twenty five,
it's ask us anything, which is which is a chance
for you to literally call into the show and ask
us anything that might be on your mind.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yes, if you would like to further this conversation, if
you have more questions for Quort about his machetechete, no,
I would be I would love to answer that question, truly,
he would. You should see the look on his face.
But seriously, anything at all, that's what ask us anything
is all about. So call us it. You can call
us now to get us help us get ready for
seven twenty five, that would be great. Or send us
(08:15):
a talk back with our iHeartRadio app. Back into second
a breeze, so you wood Mack here on ninety eight
point one. The breeze seven six is the time you've
got the morning breeze. Carolyn mccartill over there. I just
startled you with that, didn't I. Yeah, you sure did.
It's quite a monday for you this morning. Court, you're
really I just want to make sure everybody knows the players.
I feel like you've got a lot of sleep this weekend.
(08:36):
I've got a decent amount. Thinks that's a compliments notice.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Anyway, Carolyn over there, I'm Court Johnson, and it's time
for just make sure people know I know, time for the.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Brider side, which is where you call and share the
good and positive things happening in your life. In fact,
I made a list of reasons to call with your
brider side. You made a list. Okay, you love your job,
great reason to call. Yeah, you just got a job promotion.
We've had a lot of that, A brighter size, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Got you've got vacation plans and you want to share
it with everybody, and we are excited for you.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
If you do any type of good news, we want
to hear at eight seven seven nine eight one. It's
brought to you by Shreaming Company, Luxury time Pieces, Fine
Designers and Flawless Diamonds. Is that the end of your
list that was two things.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
I kind of had four here, Okay, I feel like
you's just s gave two anyway, Uh, Kathy and Walnut Creek,
good morning. So you are a proud mama. We hear of.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Four kids and my youngest is going to be thirty.
The one thing that you fight for the parent is droves,
alcohol and the ugly stuff that's in the world to
try and keep them away from and you know, educate
them on it is there growing and because when they
become adults, they make the choices in the world.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Yes, and I have to say that my kids, I'm
proud of them, all, all four of them, you know,
because I have my twins are going to be thirty
seven this month, and then my one.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Daughter's got engaged Disney Lab. But yet she's.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Done really well for herself. And then my youngest, I
mean he's still finding his way, you know, in the world.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
I would imagine as a parent, and Court can speak
to this too. I mean, the safety of your kids
and just knowing that they're going to stay away from
all the bad things in the world and they're going
to stay on that path and and be Okay, that's
got to be well it's it's the hope that they will.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
And Kathy's on this end where she's she's actually seen
that they have. Kathy's a little ahead of me in
that department. You can only do so much as a parent.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
That's a good point, is like Kathy, you're ahead of court,
so Court's listening to you, going, oh my gosh, your
kids made it. They're safe. That's great.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
I mean there was times I got there was times
I was so afraid.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Yeah, you know, and but it's just being there for them,
walking the walk with them so hopefully when because I
did have one that kind of like stepped over the
line and I had to slowly figure out how to
pull them back and.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
It worked, and they actually later on in life so
horrible that they did that. And I said, don't feel horrible.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
It's a choice, and you made the right choice to
come back, and you said example for your younger siblings.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
And they talk to you about it, which is huge.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, yeah, I have to say that.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
I do have to say.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
That's more my boys than my girls. My girls are more.
They'll talk to me, but not its surface. My boy's big,
deep with me, and which is good.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
That's impressive.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Actually, oh, thank you, thank you, just trying to be
there for them, you know.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Absolutely all right, Kathy, thanks for calling in. Have a
good day, you two.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
They take care and.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Again proof Carolyn that you can call in for the
brighter side and talk about anything that's going on great
in your life, including your kids.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
I was just thinking a minute ago, my friend Holly
has two boys, and they open up to her like crazy.
I always thought to be the girls because as girls,
as women, we love to chat. Sure, but the Kathy
and Holly saying like the boys are just softies.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Every dynamic is different, Like I've got my two and
just the way they talk with my wife Randy is
super special and it's much different than the way they
talk with me.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Yeah, so that's so interesting. All right. I'm not sure
what that says about me or why wife. I think
we'll just move on. We're at eight seven seven nine
eight one oh nine eight one. If you've got a
brighter side for us, and hey.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
We're just a few minutes away from ask us anything.
It's a chance for you to call into the show
and ask us anything. It could be show related, could
be Carolyn related, could be correlated, or it could just
be about anything in the world.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Yeah, we have kind of an anything in the world
question coming up. Yeah, on today's ask Us Anything. We're
excited about this. We're going to bring you into the
conversation as well, and yes, we will do that next
here on the Morning Breeze. It's the Morning Breeze with
Carolyn Nancren. It is seven twenty seven, which means it
is time for ask us Anything. We do it every
(12:50):
weekday morning at this time. We welcome your questions at
eight seven seven nine eight one oh nine eight one.
You can always send us a message with our iHeartRadio
app that talk. Whatever question you have, We've got an
answer for you. Curious about something ask us, We're going
to answer it for you. We hope we have an
answer for you. You're not wrong about that.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Sometimes these questions are pretty deep and cause us to
actually think a little bit.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
I agree, Court. So this morning the question comes from
Matthew and Daily City, who sent who slid into our
DM as the kids say, as one does, and he said,
if you could have dinner with any person, who would
it be? And why you could have with anybody? I
I've heard this.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Question asked before, and I've got a few questions that
I would love to ask Matthew back. Just some qualifiers. Okay,
we don't have Matthew available, No, we don't, like are
these Could this be anybody living or dead, somebody from
the past. Who would it be for you? So for me,
like if it's somebody who's alive today. As you know,
I'm a huge fan of you two. That's my favorite band. Oh,
(13:55):
I would love to sit down with any member of
that band, and.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
You would nerd out. I would, so I would.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
But they also always say you should never meet your
heroes because they just disappoint Oh.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
I would hope that wouldn't be the case with you too.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
If you're eating, are they sloppy eaters?
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Another great question? Fair question?
Speaker 2 (14:15):
But if it could be anybody in the world. My
grandfather passed away when I was eight years old, and
I have memories of him, great memories of him, but
I don't really know him as a person. Yeah, so
if I can have dinner with my grandpa.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
That's such a good call. My middle name comes from him, Joe. Joe. Yeah,
I would love to sit down with him. I love
that because I have a different answer. But now that
you've said grandparents, same. You know, you're growing up and
you're so young and you never really get to know
your grandparents from the standpoint of being an adult. An
adult to an adult, it's a different relationship. How's school?
(14:49):
What are you studying? And you don't care, You're just like,
I just want to go swim in your pool, you know.
And now you look back and it's like you can't
get that time back. And I wish, Yeah, I wish
I would have known them in my adult years so
I could have learned a little bit more. Yeah, acually
on my mc cardinal's side of the family.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Oh does that change your answer then, because who would
you have tea?
Speaker 1 (15:11):
My initial was, actually it came true for me was
Anne Wilson of Heart. Oh nice, because I'm a huge
Heart fan and I became friends with Anne just from
working in the industry. And there was a weekend when
they came out to do a show and Anne called
me and was like, Hey, do you want to come over?
We've got an airbnb in Emoryville. Do you want to
(15:34):
come over and have dinner? And even though like I mean,
my mind was blown, So then what do you say,
are you catering for us? Or I was like, Hey,
do you want me to cook something? And she says okay,
and I'm like, oh my gosh, now I have to
cook for Anne Wilson.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
She's like, hey, but on your way in, could you
swing by and pick up some ranch we need some
hidden valley road.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
No.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Well seriously, but I will say Ann Wilson one of
the most down to earth people in the world. So
when you say like you don't want to meet your
heroes sometimes because you're worried this, You worried that they
won't live up to the experts. I'm so glad that
she and I became friends because she is the real deal.
So I'm glad now that I know that about her.
By the way, I made sahitahs and they were amazing. Yeah. Yeah,
(16:19):
it was a big night anyway. But that's a great question.
We actually put this question on our Facebook page at
ninety eight one The Breeze. If you could have dinner
with any person, who would it be and why? And
there are some great answers there, so feel free to
join that conversation again on our Facebook page at ninety
eight one The Breeze.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
And if you've got a question for ask us anything
you can always call us eight seven seven nine eight
one oh nine eight one. Maybe your question could be, Hey, Carolyn,
I would like to know your fahita recipe.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
What is it? It's pretty great. Whatever the case may be,
send us a talk back on our iHeartRadio apper again
call us eight seven seven nine eight one oh ninety
eight one. Ask us anything. We do it every weekday
morning at seven twenty five on the Breeze.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
It's the Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court at eight
seven TLC.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Welcome to your Monday. Yes, we're happy you're here. Remember
how you used to go out for drinks with your
friends and you would give your bartender your credit card
and then you would tell them just leave the tab
open and at the end of the night, of course
you pay for how many drinks you have to settle
the bill. Yes, yeah, so gen Z is doing it
(17:21):
completely differently. They pay one by one, one drink at
a time. Yes, because you could just tap your card.
Now that's what you do, You tap your card. Everything
is electronic now, so they will go and get a
round of drinks or a drink and then tap and
then they're just there's no discussion, there's no like hey,
you want to close this out. It's just they look
(17:42):
at these gen zers and they're like, you're gen z zoom.
We'll close it out because think about it, you can
include your tip and everything in that one tap, so
why not pay for one at a time.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
That does become kind of the challenge because I know
a lot of times when it comes to drinking as
opposed to eating at a restaurant, when you're trying to
do the tip, a lot of times people will do
like a dollar a drink or whatever as the tip
instead of instead of twenty percent. Yes, and so if
you're just doing the one offs, it's just easy to
do and you're good to go. I have noticed this
(18:16):
because you know, I do trivia here in the city
once a week, and I've noticed the bartenders when they're,
you know, starting in order for somebody, they'll ask you
want to start a tab and they're like, nah, I'll
just pay.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
For it now. Funny, so they do still ask though,
that's interesting that they still ask. I wonder what works better.
I would ask bartenders what they think, but they're probably
all asleep right now. They were work until two am,
but are during a couple more hours and yeah, exactly.
But if you are a server or a bartender and
you're listening, like, what is easier or better for you?
Do you prefer the one at a time or I
(18:48):
don't know.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
I would think from like a business model, that keeping
the tab open is the better way to go.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
I would think so too.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Just take your time, you know, I could tell you
for I want to say, drink as much as you want,
but take your time, no rush.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
We'll get to you when we get to you. In
terms of paying your bill, I think that every time
I have said the words just leave the tab open.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
I have no business leaving the tab open. I will
tell you for sure. The other thing with gen Z
is that they're not drinking as much. I was just
older generating pay that they are going there. If they
are going out, oftentimes they're doing the mocktails.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Mocktails, which I heard are just as expensive as the
real equally delicious. Yeah, and I've heard that too. We're
at eight seven seven, one, nine eight one. Bartenders, servers, hostesses, hosts.
We want to hear from you, restaurant owners, zers, Yeah,
what do you what do you prefer?
Speaker 5 (19:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (19:44):
And the people buying the drinks, like what do you prefer.
You can always send us a message with our iHeartRadio
app that talkback mic as well, and.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Coming up later this hour eight fifty as you begin
your work day, we're giving you ninety eight minutes of NonStop,
commercial free, relaxing favorites.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Think about how much music that is. It is just
going and going and going, and it's great. We have
so many great songs lined up for you, So yeah,
we'll be commercial for you at eight fifty here on
the Breeze
