The Morning Breeze, Morning Breeze onDemand, Tina Turner six o eight The
Bays Number one for relaxing favorites foryour morning, ninety eight point one,
The Breeze. It is the MorningBreeze. Carolin McCardell Court Johnson, what
sad news. You and I wereactually together yesterday, Cord at the time
(00:20):
that we found out about Tina Turner'spassing. Yeah, yeah, I think
it may become one of those timeswhere you remember where you were when certain
people died. I remember where Iwas when Michael Jackson died. I will
remember eating lunch with Carolyn when Turnersaid, I know, eighty three years
old. She apparently had a longfight with multiple illnesses that they didn't go
(00:42):
into detail. Totally fine to respecther privacy. But Tina was just such
an icon. And as this morningwe hear all the tributes pouring in from
all of the celebrities that came incontact. I mean, I think about
the first person I thought about wasOprah Winfrey. What a Tina fan she
was. And when you can takea celebrity like a Beyonce or an Oprah
Winfrey that when Tina is in theirpresence, they melt. That's when you
(01:06):
know you were someone a true superstarlike she was just as big as they
come. And I think she connectedthe audiences in ways that few performers do,
just because of where she came fromher journey, like the struggle she
had in her life. And youknow, even people like me who I
wasn't into her music right away asa younger kid, the man I loved
(01:27):
her on Mad Max Beyond Thunder.Oh yeah, that was the thing too.
She could act, Yeah, shecould act, she could sing,
she could act. She was beautiful. I have seen more Tina Turner concerts
than any other artist because I usedto go with my mom. And that
was the great thing. Was Tinakind of transcended amongst all you know,
all ages, right, So manygirls and their moms went to Tina shows
(01:49):
together, especially in her heyday whenshe was doing the legs to her right.
Oh my gosh. So I justthink she is tremendously going to be
missed, such a special individual. It was way back in the early two
thousands. I was, of coursegoing down a Tina Turner rabbit hole last
night watching all of her old interviewsand videos, and she talked about her
legacy. If we stay on course, we stay focused, never smoking,
(02:12):
never drinking, never doing drugs. My legacy is that I stayed on course
from the beginning to the end becauseI believed in something inside of me that
told me that it can get better, or you can make something better,
and that I want it better. So my legacy is a person that strived
(02:36):
for wanting it better and got it. Incredible that I do too. I
mean, just an icon, atrue icon. So Tina Turner at eighty
three, she will be missed andwe have a nice tribute to her on
our Facebook page. At ninety eightone The Breeze, you can reach us
at eight seven seven nine eight onenine eight one. We will have more
(02:58):
Great America tickets for you today.California's Great America, so much fun in
the summer. Here's more on howto win those tickets. Six twenty seven
on the Bays Number one for relaxingfavorites for your morning, ninety eight point
one The Breeze, The Morning BreezeCarolyn McCardell Court Johnson. With the cost
of weddings going up just pretty muchconstantly, so it seems when someone comes
(03:21):
up with a wedding hack to savemoney. I think so many of us
are like, what did you do? How did you do that? Well,
there's a woman on social media courtwho's going viral. She's got over
a million views on this video becauseshe spent just over nineteen hundred dollars on
food at her wedding for ninety ninepeople. In the way that she did
(03:43):
it, yea is she had chilies. The restaurant cater the dinner, so
she had chips, salsa, eggrolls, chicken tenders, sliders. I
mean it is this long, Carolyn. Did she have the skillet caso?
Oh, that's my favorite thing atChili Chili. It is the this thing
and chili. I don't know ifshe had that. I did not see
that on here. But you knowwhich fail on her part at this well,
(04:04):
she did not having that, correct, But no, she had all
these things, even specialty emails forher guests that have like dietary restrictions.
She went all out and it costsher just over nineteen hundred dollars and then
she offset the cost of the food. They went and picked it up themselves
instead of paying for delivery. Shesaid people were raving about the food,
(04:24):
so it was total hack, andto the point where a guest at the
wedding was or a guest who watchedher video was so inspired by what she
did that that person had Olive Gardencater their wedding and said, oh man,
you're so right. This was sobrilliant. It is something interesting to
think about. I'm the father oftwo daughters. One day I will be
the person paying paying for this,so I'm thinking about this all the time.
(04:46):
How am I going to pay forcollege? How am I gonna pay
for weddings? Yes, Chilies,it is. Chilies is so good,
and make sure you get the casomorning. I'd be curious to know some
of the the things people might doto save money, like wedding hacks,
right right, I'm sure. Imean it could be you know, if
you know somebody that bakes, likeyou hire a friend to bake the cake
(05:10):
for you, or what if somebodycan do the sewing for you, the
for your dress. It's kind oftough because you know, I've heard this
said to me multiple times. Peoplewho have had big weddings they regret them
afterwards. They're like, we couldhave taken that money and maybe had a
down payment on a house totally. We're gone on a bigger honeymoon than there.
It's all about memories rather than ourexperiences. Rather that you know,
a wedding is an experience, andsometimes you kind of want that it is.
(05:33):

It is the Morning Breeze, CarolineMcCardell Court Johnson. Of course, that
is Alicia keys Court. I wasreading something the other day that really caught
my attention. There is something calledphone call anxiety. Okay, and what
(09:56):
that is? You know, we'veall become texters, right right. We
used to have to back in theday plan for our phone calls. Is
how we would say I can't makeit to something. Now you just text,
hey, guys, sorry I can'tmake it, and you're out.
You're in the clear. You usedto have to pick up the phone and
act it out. I am sosorry, I can't make it, and
(10:16):
I have an actual conversation with somebody, have a conversation. So now apparently
when it comes to using the phone, for so many of us, we
have this phone call anxiety. Wedon't want to cancel plans, we don't
want to just even talk on thephone. So I'm wondering, like,
you have young ger, younger kids. Sure, yeah, I've got two
teenagers. How does that go inyour house? Do they even use the
(10:37):
phone or do they only text? You know, it's it's really interesting when
we talk about this, because Inoticed this early on. We have never
had a home phone. Our girlswere born into a world where Randy and
I just didn't we never needed onebecause we had cell phones. Yeah,
and so when we first were youknow, when the girls got old enough
to use our cell phones, theydidn't even know how to hold the cell
phone correctly against their head because theynever had that muscle memory of oh God
(11:01):
of the old banana shaped phones weall grew up with, you know,
Yeah, they didn't even know howto do that. And and to take
it further, they don't even knowproper phone etiquette because they live in this
texting world. Right. So mydaughter slow not to call her out,
but and I talked to her aboutthis all the time. She will she
doesn't say goodbye at the end ofphone call, so just hang up wherever
(11:22):
in the middle of it. She'sjust done. If she's done, she's
out, so she doesn't say goodbye, and so then like I like,
I might have had more things tosay to her, so I'll call her
back, and I'm like, Sloan, don't hang up with me or anybody,
Yeah, until you both say goodbyeto each other. A pleasant salutation
with each other. But she'll alsostart talking before you even answer the phone.
(11:46):
I'll be answering my phone and yougot that split second, you know,
you answer, and then you're takingyour phone up to her yeah,
to say hello. She's like midsentence and so funny because I remember my
parents going through this. You know, if I needed to call my best
friend Steve to you know, hey, can can Steve come out and play?
That was the home missus Greig.Yeah, Steve can out and play.
You had to talk to the gatekeeperto get to your friend keeper.
(12:07):
So true, isn't that true?I tried about that. Yeah, you
had that courtesy. You answer thephone. Hi, this is court speaking
Hello, mister or missus, Sothis is little manners. At the same
time, you don't live in thisworld, so talking to somebody and being
ready for the immediate response. Ican totally see where this anxiety comes from.
Different world, and it's come tous older people too, And that's
when you know you're getting older.Right, where's your phone at again?
(12:31):
Eight seven seven, nine eight onenine eight one. Are you experiencing this
in your life with your family, with your kids, and how are you

(12:54):
on the Morning Breeze, that isBill Withers. Is Carolyn mccartell, Court
Johnson. Carolyn, You're not gonnabelieve what happened to me the other day,
and you're also not going to believewhat I've been doing since. I'm
a little embarrassed to share this withyou. Why am I telling you this
after all on the radio? Yeah, he couldn't do this behind the scenes
on So I had this really amazingmoment the other day. It was either
before or after a Giant's game.I can't remember, but I live close
(13:16):
to the stadium. There's the hustleand bustle of everybody going to the game,
which I love. I just loveit. Yeah, I'm out for
my daily walk. That's the wayI'm getting to know the city. Yes,
it's going for a walk through theneighborhood, going, you know,
into areas I haven't been before, mart But I have a typical route out
of my apartment down the street. So I'm walking there the other day.
I look down on the ground. There's twenty bucks on the ground in San
(13:39):
Francisco that never happened, And soI look around see if anybody's you know,
checking their pockets to see if theylost it. And I don't see
any of that. So I pickup the money. I don't want it
to blow away, of course, and then I hang out in the area
just a little bit to make surenobody comes looking seriously. I didn't,
you know, I didn't want towalk off with some kids twenty dollar bill,
but that is so nice. SoI hung out and then and then
(14:00):
I left, and then I boughtsome groceries. A couple of days later,
guy's got an eat. You know, the fact that you even stayed
right and waited for someone to comeback is amazing and says a lot about
your character. But here's the thing. Yeah, I've been going back to
that same spot. I don't necessarilyhave to go back there, but I
(14:20):
do for two reasons. A.I am kind of looking to see if
somebody's returned to the scene of thecrime looking for their twenty dollars. You're
seriously thinking someone's going to come backit's more. So I want more money.
I can't. I am literally I'mglued to the ground. I'm like,
is that is that a twenty dollars? It's a leaf. Oh,
that's a candy rapper's leaf. I'mliterally going back every day helping more money
(14:43):
falls out of the sky. Itwenty dollars. I was going to give
it to you to say what agood guy that you're going back, hoping
that the owner of the twenty dollarswalks up and says, hey, have
you seen a t excuse me dropped? Yeah, no, I want more
money. That is is great. That's great. Well you keep going back,
Clark, Okay, I will keepgoing back, keep reporting back.
