The Morning Breeze. The Morning Breeze on demand.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
It's John Lennon six eighteen The Morning Breeze with Carolyn
and Court. Every weekday morning. Right around this time six twenty,
we do the Morning Breeze Brain Teas, which is sponsored
by Mike Counsel Plumbing. You are in clean hands with
Mike Council Plumbing. Visit them at mc plumbing dot com.
All right, Court, one more time with today's question for
the brain Teas.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Please health experts say this is something more people should
wash before serving.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Okay, I suggested shrimp yes earlier. Yeah, And I don't
know why it's six something in the morning that popped
into my head, but.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Well, I think there's there's there's a question out there,
whether it's shrimp or even chicken. Have you ever heard
about people washing their chicken before cooking it? I rinse it,
but then I read that you're not supposed to well,
if you're cooking chicken to temperature that you should be,
which is one sixty five by the way, m hmm,
that you're killing all the bacteria that could be in there. Anyway,

(01:00):
I know, but it just feels like, why why roll
the dice on that we'll just leave that got a
little rinse in the sink. Yeah, hurt. But let's get
back to this question, right, all right?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Eight seven seven nine eight one. Laurie and Nevado, good morning.
What is your guest for the brain tease?

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Wash your hands?

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Wash your hands? Oh, something that more people should wash
before serving. That's one hundred percent. You see you see
those signs in the restaurants workers wash your hands before
leaving the restroom. Shouldn't have to post a sign?

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, no, you shouldn't.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Is that the right answer.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
It's not the right answer, oh s direct answer. Health
experts say you should wash your watermelon before you serve it.
The outer part of the watermelon should be washed. Really
why because you don't You don't eat that part. You
don't eat it, but you're touching it with your hands. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
I wash all of my fruit. I washas I watch it,
all before I put it in the fruit ball.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I never oh in the fruit ball. Yeah, but I've
never washed a watermelon outside of a watermelon either, Now
I will.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I have not washed a watermelon, but I've watched it.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
But I washed my banana.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Why is it funny to hear people say I've never
washed a watermelon, never washed the watermelon.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
But I have washed my bananas. That's the better part.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Also, Laurie, we're coming to your fruit ball because it
sounds exquisite, that sounds great and clean.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
You're more than welcome to.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
Nice talking to you guys.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
You too, Bye bye bye to have a good moarning Laurie.
This gets me thinking. When I was younger and we'd
go camping, we would always put our watermelons in the
nearest creek to wash it, to just keep it coldsh
We were, you know, we were like kind of pioneer
type people, and so my dad would find the nearest creek. Yeah,

(02:58):
and then he would put it in the creek and
it would be ice cold. It was awesome. I mean,
that's awesome kind of washed the things that happen in
some cricks. Wow, I mean you're here. So it worked out.
I made it.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
I just think of it, and like washing the bananas,
I get, it's the same concept. If you're putting it
in the fruit.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Bowl, it's touching the other thing. It's touching like an apple.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, I see why, But I've never even thought to
do that wash well.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I also don't have a fruit bowl so it's fine.
You don't have a fruit bowl, No do you? Oh yeah,
you do.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
We are.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
It's it's well, I'll show it to you next Yeah, Rhyber,
please show me the fruit bowl next time I come
over to your house. We'll be riveting. I'm always eating
the fruit. That's probably you probably look there's probably you
probably have noticed an empty bowl. A pillar of health
I work with. All Right, we're at eight seven seven,
nine eight one, nine eight one. We do the Morning
Breeze brain teas every weekday morning at this time. And

(03:52):
a reminder coming up later in the show eight fifty
as you begin your workday, we're gonna kick things off
with ninety eight minutes of NonStop commercial free relax favorites. Yeah,
we'll start that at eight fifty right here on the
Breeze and Blues Denise Williams at six forty two. Here
on ninety eight point one of the Breeze. It's the
Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court and it's that time

(04:13):
of the morning where you're gonna learn something and you're
gonna like it. Okay, Dad, it's called the More you know.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Yeah, I was saying, they've been a part of our
lives for generations. But what's happening to these once I'll
just say staples in our lives is gonna surprise you.
There is a decline in the number of traditional diners
dining across the country. Remember how you'd go to the diner.
The one that pops in my mind is Bob's Big Boy.
That was a staple here. I know you're not from California,

(04:44):
but man, in the eighties, my family would pile in
the family truckster and we'd go to Monument Boulevard and
conquer to Bob's Big Boy.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Was it a chain or was that was there just
the one in conquer? No, it was a chain. It
was a chain.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I don't know like how many restaurants, but I know
there were multiple and it was a classic like burgers, fries.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Sure yeah, clsic diner. It's so great.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
So they're saying, first of all, rising costs and staffing
challenges and just consumer habits are changing, Like a lot
of people now just prefer a quicker in and out
pardon the pun, but like fast food restaurants and you
know places they can just drive up, hit the drive
through and go home. And that's the other thing. A
lot of people are not going out and sitting down

(05:28):
and eating anymore. They want to take it to go,
or they there's nothing better though than a diner.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Well, I know, it's just special. You need to be
eating out more.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Then.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
And here's the other thing.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
A lot of the diners, they were saying, we're owned
by older people, and the older people they're retiring, and
the families are saying, I don't really want to take
on a diner, and so then they're just being forced
to close.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Makes me sad. I've shared this with you before. My
dream in retirement is to run kind of a little
like Burger diner Ice on the coast, in like just
a little small beach town and make breakfast and burgers.
I would be closed by three pm every day, breakfast
and lunch. You're on your own, Adam.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
I could totally see you doing that, court because you
have the personality to do that and the smarts to
run a business.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Small staff, quality food, farm to table. I've got it
all worked out in my brain.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
That's adorable. That reminds me of the movie The Roses
that we just saw. Oh yeah, where she was running
the diner up in Mendocino. Yeah, that's right, totally see
you doing that.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Though. When you go to a diner, Carolyn, what is
your go to? What do you always orders? You have
to go burgers and fries. What's yours? Well, my, if
they've got breakfast all day, which most diners, if it's
a die like a true diner, you'll have breakfast all day,
then you go with the kind of the breakfast plate,
which is you know, like the hash browns or home
fries sounds so good, eggs, you know what sort of
sausage or bacon. You know what? I love it?

Speaker 2 (06:52):
A diner, A skillet, a skillet. Remember when we went
to Katie's Corner in San Ramon.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
That's right, Oh, that's right, get the skillet. Yeah it was.
It was actually a skillet and it was hot. It
was so good. I remember. I wonder how many people
right now are listening and they're like, I'm starving all
of a sudden. Then here's what you do. You go,
you find your local diner and you go to it
before them might go away. Yeah, you need to go
support them. So there you go.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Diners are on the decline, and now you know it's
the more, you know, we do it every weekday morning
at this time here on the Breeze, and don't forget.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
If you'd like to contribute to anything happening here on
the Morning Breeze, you can use our talkback feature on
the free iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Every single Tuesday, Court tries to make it a talkback Tuesday,
and today is no different.

Speaker 1 (07:35):

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Yeah, Use that microphone button on our app that's right
next to the play button on the app in the
top right corner, a little red microphone. You push that button,
speak into it. That message comes to us right away.
We're back in a sack on the Breeze.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
It's the Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court. We were
talking a couple of minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
And the more you know that diners, like traditional diners
were used to go sit down with your family and
have a meal out on the decline, they're starting to close.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Chuck in pleasant Hill, Good morning.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
Jarlin, you're pleasant Hill conquered. Do you ever go to
Giant Chef for a diner? No, where's that Giant Chefs
on Golf Club. It's been there forever ever ever True
Diner six six thirty to two thirty closed on Sunday's afternoons.
Breakfast all day long, blue plated special special ball during
the week, and I've been eating there since nineteen eighty eight.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
What's your favorite thing to order there? I want to
take Court there, so give us a pro.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Tim.

Speaker 4 (08:28):

Speaker 3 (08:31):

Speaker 4 (08:34):
They make their own batter ties. Everything's made right there
on the spot.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
A great and what's the name again, Giant Chef. Giant
Chef in Pleasant hill On Golf Club.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Okay, some people call a chef Burger, but I think
the actual name.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Is Giant Chef.

Speaker 2 (08:48):

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Good morning, VICKI in Napa. Tell us your brighter side.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
Recently I checked something off my bucket list.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Oh what was it?

Speaker 6 (09:36):
And I went and did a zip line over in
Genomac County.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Oh wow, I'm turning.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
Seventy later this year, and I decided I needed to
get it done. And it was so exciting, frightening, thrilling, terrifying.
It was all of the above. My friend and I
went and she just jumped off and went and I
was like.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
H.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
I get you some second thoughts.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Yeah, and there's seven platforms you jump off, not just one,
seven really yes, seven.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
I wonder how many people do one and they're like,
I'm good.

Speaker 6 (10:12):
There's no way back.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
You go down to the ground and you got to
walk up a hill.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
You're committed, so it's not like yeah, oh starday, terrifying.

Speaker 6 (10:22):
It's a one and done for me.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
I never want to do it again.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
How long ago did you add ziplining to your bucket list? Oh?

Speaker 5 (10:29):
About twenty years ago, and I just kept, you know,
stalling it, installing it, and Finny and said, you know
you're not getting any younger.

Speaker 6 (10:37):
Yeah, you better get the sun.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Great? And where is this in Sonoma.

Speaker 6 (10:43):
In the little town of Occidental?

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (10:45):
Really, yes, it's been there twenty five years. I think
it's a beautiful location. You're zipping through the redwoods. That's
great if you have time to look around, or if
you have the inclination to look around and not just
be frightened.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
I was gonna say, I don't know, if i'd look around,
i'd be so I can't imagine how scary that is.
But good for you for overcoming like your fears and
doing it.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Yeah, yeah, it was worth it.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Like I said one And then, did you even sleep
that night or is your adrenaline just on overdrive?

Speaker 6 (11:17):
I dreamt it all night and I was still doing it.
I was dreaming, I was, I was zipping through the trees.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Oh that is so crazy. Well, hey, happy birthday. When's
your birthday? Officially in December?

Speaker 6 (11:28):
But I I wanted to get it done now.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Do we know if any famous people listen to The
Morning Breeze. Oh no, we are aware that the brother
of a famous person. Yeah, witch, wait Johnson? Who is
we we're up here with Johnson who is on ABC
News in Morning America. Yeah, grew up here in the
Bay Area and his brother, brother has reached out a

(13:03):
few times. We talked to him a couple of times
and he said he listens to the show, which is awesome.
So my famous person adjacent. Yeah, I think we peaked
at with Johnson's brother. But no, Look, it's the Bay
Area there. There's probably so many famous people that live
in the Bay Area. Alanis Morissette lives in Lafayette. I
hope she appreciates that that I just announced that on

(13:25):
the radio. But she's a Lafayette she lives. Yeah, maybe
she likes relaxing favorites at work. I mean, you've got
all of the I mean Steph Curry lives in the
Bay here. Oh yeah, all of our athletes you see
listen to the Breeze. Do you think any of the
giants listened to the Breeze? Well, of course that would
be amazing. There have to be famous people.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
If you know someone famous in the Bay Area that
is not with Johnson's brother or.

back in a hour, Cindyl Opera at eight oh seven
here on ninety eight point one, the Breeze. It's the
Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Quartz.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
So I was just saying that there's something that's been
a part of our lives forever. It's just been a staple,
especially growing up slowly starting to fade away. And I'm
talking about diners. Yes, when you go in and you'd
sit down and you'd have a meal with your family.
Remember growing up, diners were just we all went to diners.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Oh yeah. The one in my town was called Sally's.
It was only open for breakfast and lunch and then
at three pm it closed down. Yeah, no dinner for you.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
That's when it's a good diner. When they don't do dinner,
right right, they're just starting to go by the wayside.
And I was thinking about when I was growing up
my family in the eighties, we used to go to
Bob's Big Boy. Oh no, that was the diner to
go to and you get like classic hamburger fries. So
that was a big night out for our family. We're
at eight seven seven h nine eight one bill in

(15:32):
San Francisco.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
I'm from Michigan, And in Michigan when I was growing up,
we had it wasn't Bob's Big Boy, it was just
Big Boy.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
They did change the name. They dropped the Bob's at
a certain point, so I wonder if it was still
the same.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
It had to all be related.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Well, I used to go there every Sunday with my
father and I always get the Big Boy combination, which
is a double deck hamburg gerl. It was like a
big Mac with fries and would come with the salad
and they had the best French tre scene I ever
had in my life. I'd like to fill a swimming
pool up with their dressing and just eat more than
out of it. It was so good.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
The dressing on the Bob's Big Boy Burgers was so key.
And wasn't it just Thousand Island Because looking back on it,
I feel like it might have been Thousand Island dressing.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
I think it was, and it was. I just I
would dream about it. I'm like when you said this morning,
it just made me so hungry. And I let you
know that I listen to you guys every morning, and
you make me want to get up from bed and
have breakfast and put me in a good new bleating.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
We make you want to start your day. I love
that we're here for you do.
