Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Morning Breeze. The Morning Breeze on.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Demand every Friday morning. At this time, we have taken
all of your nominations and we got some really great
nominations this week. We love to do it, but it's
also a very hard decision. It is it's the Morning
Breeze Person of the Week. And by the way, if
you have made a nomination for somebody and they are
not this week's Morning Breeze Person of the Week, do
not worry.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
We will get to them. This week.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
It is Steve who nominated Surely, surely volunteers at the
NAPA Animal Shelter.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah, and we've got Steve on hold. So Steve, tell
us about Shirley. Why did you nominate her?

Speaker 4 (00:35):
And she retired, She worked for the city, and after
she retired she does all over.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Volunteer time over there, twenty to thirty hours there alone.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
And she knows just about every dog and cat's name
and tries to get him adopted one and does cleaning.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Plus she walks the dog.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
She'll generate flyers and stuff to try to get dog
money for operations. And right now she gets every morning
up at five. She's got three dogs now and two
of them are from the pound, and one of.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Them was surrendered by an older couple.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
That's thirteen and just about the at the end of
its life, but surely took it home and it's given it.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Special care and take care of it.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I have such admiration for people who adopt senior dogs
totally because it you know, they do need special care oftentimes,
and you know you're.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Not going to have them forever. You fall in love
with them, and you know it's going to be short lived,
so hard and dogs are just the best they are.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Right well, their cats and dogs. Well, she'll take care.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Of my animals when we're gone, you know what I'm saying,
Because I got my wife, we take care of umpteen
cats and dogs, and I got two cats and a dog.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
How do you know, Shirley, she's my sister in law.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Do you think, Steve, if we called Shirley right now,
do you think we get her.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
On the phone?

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Let's try all all right?

Speaker 4 (02:00):
All right?

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Stand by hold on?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Oh hey, Sureley, Yes, Hi, this is Carolyn and Court
from ninety eight point one The Breeze. We also have
Steve with us on the phone. Hi, Steve, why didn't
you tell Shirley? Why we're calling this morning.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
I nominated you, uh, surely for a person of the
Week from what do you do, Shirley.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Steve was telling us about all the work you do
at the NAPA Animal Shelter. The devotion that you have
to these animals that need forever homes is pretty darn admirable.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Walk right now, oh before the Animal Shelter.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Of course you are, surely, and this is why you're
the person of the week.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Well, thank you.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
And this is on top of you being there for
Steve and his wife watching their dogs when they go
out of town and their animals, so you're just it
seems like you're always busy.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yes, what drove you to become such an animal lover?
Did you grow up with animals or what is your backstory?

Speaker 5 (03:01):
They kind of grew as I got older because we
only had one dog growing up. We've had dogs since
I've had children, and then after I retired, I decided
to try the Animal shelter. And we also used to
do home rehabbing for NAPA Wildlife. Well I think we
did it for about four or five years. This is
the first spring summer we haven't done squirrels home. We

(03:24):
having for squirrels.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Squirrel Yeah, I didn't know that was a thing. Ye
didn't either.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Yeah, you should contact your local wildlife and not only
you know they need help in their facilities and their rescues,
but sometimes you can be a home we have or
for certain kind of animals.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
See, this is so greatly. We're so happy to be
able to do this for you. By the way, we're
not just calling you and telling you you're a Person
of the Week, which is fantastic, right, well deserved, but
also we are going to award you brunch for two
out on the Bay courtesy of City Cruises.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Oh, thank you so much, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
You're welcome. Thank you guys. You do a great job.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
That's a time.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
Oh thank you Steve. No wonder I mean asked me
how many hours I volunteer?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Why is he asking me all these questions.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Taking such an interest in my life all of a sudden.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
Yes, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
You're welcome.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
By the way, Court, I was going to mention there
is the Lindsey Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek, which I
grew up going to as a kid, and they're always
looking for volunteers. All the wildlife like the birds and
the squirrels and all of those animals, all the things. Yeah,
so there's a place in the East Bay right there.
If you're looking to volunteer at one of these wildlife places,

(04:40):
that's really great. They're all over the Bay area.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah. Nice. If there is somebody like surely in your life,
we want to hear about them. You can nominate them
for the next Morning Breeze Person of the Week on
