Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the WYA GISA Credit Union State High School Football Championships,
presented by the Seatle Seahawks and brought to you by
GISA Credit Union, US Army Trust and will Sound Transit
and by Dick's Drive In Restaurant. It's on your Home
for High School Football Sports Radio nine fifty a jr.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
AO. Good evening from Husky Stadium the Bob Rondo Radio booth.
We are at the Class three A State Championship. Greg Bell,
the industributing, Christopher Kidd next to me. The game has
begun oday. From the toss they deferred, they kicked the
ball through the end zone. Oleviston, the placekicker, kicked it

(00:42):
through the end zone for a touchback. Reik and Moon
just carried inside handoff for Bellevue for a gain of two.
It's second and eight on the very first drive of
the game, and there's another counter inside handoff to Riker
Moon and the son of Warren Moon, goes off the
right tackle and he's stacked up. After a gain of
about two maybe three. Dawson Sherlock, the free safety captain

(01:04):
for Oday, makes the second tackle the game.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Chris, that was really great defense there. They were able
to keep him outside. Linebackers are a good job of
closing in on him and then safety cleans him up.
That was just a really great stop there on a
third and long. Here, let's see what the Bellevue Wolverines
can do.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
They're gonna go through the air.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
They're gonna go with their ground attack, which has been
really good all season.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Bellevue the number one seed oday, number two Bellby looking
for the third state championship.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Coach Mike kaneipe in his seventh season.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Seventy and ten inside handoff on a third down and
about six, and that's not gonna get close.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
They were at the twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
They need to get to the thirty and Oda has
a three and out on the first drive after Max
Jones got stopped for a gain of four and the
punt team comes on for Bellevue after a three and out.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
That was an interesting first drive there. I thought Bellevy
was going to be more effective in the run game,
but Odey stans Pat holds them for what five yards
in that first drive, and as you mentioned, they're gonna punt.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Jeremiah six two, three hundred and twenty five pound nose
tackle Junior did not move in that first drive now
reads three straight plays and Jeremiah Nonu did not get
blocked in the interior of the line, and that messed
up the three plays that Bellevue had. And now they're punting,
which they don't do often. Nathan Nora Junior and punter back.
He's punting from about his own twenty a low line

(02:21):
drive fielded on a bounce taken by Sage Seppollock, so
Lopeck gets out of bounds at about the forty six
yard line of Oday and the Fighting Irish will have
their first drive of the game after a three and
out by their defense. Monti Kohler fortieth season, thirty first

(02:46):
state tournament. He's won four state titles, looking for number
five tonight. It'd be their first win since twenty seventeen.
The last time ODAVE was in the state championship, they
lost the East Side Catholic in twenty nineteen. Twenty to twelve,
they are twelve to zero, averaging forty one points. It's
a game on offense and R and I formation with
a tight end right on their first play from scrimmage.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
On offense, it's a handoff on the right side.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Uriah Stringfield gets across midfield into territory Bellvue Territory for.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
A game of five.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
On the first play, Ali Sharp the middle linebacker re
Lease Bellevue and tackles the senior had to tackle in
the first play of the defense for Bellevue. Riah Springfield
rushed for three hundred and one yards last week in
the state semifinals when Odey Rallied passed east Side Catholic
seventeen to fourteen. It's a second down and four Odey
ball at the Bellevue forty nine and they're in split backs.

(03:38):
Quick drop, bubble screen out to the left side, complete
to Leo Banks football in the football number two. Oh
my goodness. Number twelve is on the ground in Bellevue.
Bryce Smith with the hit Bellevue has a recovery at
the forty one yard line.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Wow, that was a great tackle. Form tackle, came up,
hit him right in the chant and the ball popped
loose and there you have it. Oday's first turnover. They
got held with three and out on defense, been on
offense coughing up the football, giving the ball right back.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
To the Wolverines. I think it was Darien Davis on
the recovery. Fifty one the senior defensive end came back
up the field chasing the play, and you're right, Chris
Bryce Smith, the free safety, blew up Fan Carrol with
a helmet into a chess plate. That's how you want
to tackle.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Keep your eyes up, head up and hit the football
and he wrapped him up and the ball came loose.
Unfortunate for Oday, and now they're going to have to
figure out they can get another stop here on defense,
we're going to.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Take a time out. Each team's had the ball once
the turnover for Oday, Bellevue's got the ball at their
own forty one yard line. Back after this on Sports
Trader ninety nine JRFM, full.

Speaker 5 (04:51):

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Well you did call it. We're back at Husky Stadium
Bellevue has the ball. After the turnover, ben Caro fumble
on a bubble screen and there's a sweet play to
the right side, left side, right to laugh. Running out
of the double wing formation. Ro Moon with his third

(05:35):
carry and five plays. Joseph Fuvai, the captain middle linebacker
six and twenty pounds senior, win the tackle for Oday
and a gain of two by Moon and so far
Chris limiting them to one two three yard games on
their run game.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah, that's something that they have the stress and practice.
I would imagine, Hey, if they get outside, we have
to make sure we get in and make those tackles,
because right now Belle is struggly run the football.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
So we'll see if that continues.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Single wing this time two backs in the backfield and
the handoff is off left guard and not much there either.
A gain of one. Rossan Thomas, the will linebacker, makes
the tackle on Matt Reid.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Third and long. You think they're gonna run it again? Huh.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Greg Bellue has thrown twenty five passes all season with
Pison Carter, their sophomore quarterback. It is third and six,
Bellevue at their own forty five yard line. Second drive,
of the game. We're four minutes into the Class three
A State Titawa Husky Stadium, no score, single wing on
the right side for Bellevue. They are gonna run inside
and they are not gonna get the first down a

(06:35):
gain of maybe two because King Ah, the sam linebacker,
slammed right into Max Jones on third down and another
punting situation. No Belvy is gonna keep their offense on
the field for a fourth and three at their own
forty eight. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Watching King fight off that left guard the right guard
was very impressive. He was able to push him off
and get to the ball carry and stop them for
a small gain fourth in what two yards?

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Greg and they're going for it? Are we surprised.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
For an offensive averages thirty nine points a game? When
we were asking before the game who the punter was,
we got six different answers from the Bellevue staff. They
don't even know because they don't punt.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
It's not in their DNA.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Fourth and three, they're in a single wing left with
two backs in the backfield, a direct snap and a
handoff inside the moon and Ryker Moon has the first
down across the forty eight yard line of oday the
ball is on the ground, O Day saying, but the
officials are saying that the ballcarrier was down in a
first down for Bellevue. There first of the game, and

(07:34):
it comes five minutes into the first quarter, seven minutes left,
opening quarter, no score.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Impressive play there, showing their ability to push back the
d line. They do a good job. The center gets
amazing push and then the run the ballcarer Moon's able
to find a little space and get through and get
the first down.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Reik and Moon has twelve hundred and forty five yards
and thirteen touchdowns this season. He plays everywhere. He plays wing,
he plays full back, he plays half back. He's a
safety and a rover on the defense. First and ten
on Bellevue wing left, they give it to the wing
left running right. Stacked up again, Bryce Smith gets maybe

(08:12):
two to the forty five of Oday Sally Sally with
the tackle the left. The defensive end number fifty eight
the junior for Oday second down and eight for Bellevue.
The ball at the Oday forty five, no no win.
Tonight could fifty one degrees at Husky Stadium, which is

(08:33):
pretty good for a December first week in December. No rain,
It's also good for the first week in December in Seattle.
Second and eight, they're in a wing right play action.
They're gonna throw, which they rarely do, deep down the
center of the field. It's Moon. He's caught it. He's
at the eight and pulled down at the two yard
line and Bellevue as a first and goal with a

(08:55):
rare pass, playing with the twenty sixth pass of the
season for Case and Carter, and that's for forty four yards.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
What a play action and that's what you do.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
You set him up there and to see the Seahawks
O day fighting hours are caught sleeping in the backfield
and safety wasn't awake. Great throw, great catch, and you
have a first in goal. What a play there by
the Wolverine. I'll set it up.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Post route from right to left to the center of
the field, beating it was man coverage because you don't
expect that play down the line. Here's an unbalanced line
to the right on first and goal from the one
handoff inside and that's a Bellevue touchdown.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Bryce Smith.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
See that push there, Greg, They were just there wasn't
an no day fighting irishman near until he was crossed
the goal line.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
That's good. Yeah. They go three thirty six with Dmitri Manning,
Eric Fang the left guard, Willie washer a usc signe
three to oh two. Dmitri Manning the left tackle was
going to Oregon. He's got Oregon's shoes and socks on
a night. And it's a touchdown for Bellevue after the
turnover by Ben Carrol n O'Day's first possession. The point

(10:01):
after touchdown, the snap is depth, the kick is step
is down to kick is fine. Charlie Miller the point
after touchdown and a seven play fifty nine yard drive
in three and a half minutes after the turnover and
the big play the forty four yard pass case and
Carter sophomore quarterback hits reyk and Moon has been the
Reichen Moon Show early as advertised time out at Husky

(10:24):
Stadium in the three A State Championship game. Five thirty
two left first quarter, the number one rank Bellvue willbring
seven and O eight nothing. We'll be back on nine
to fifty sports Radero KGr back at Husky Stadium's back
at Usky Stadium in.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
The Washington three eight Championship game, brought you.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
By Geeza Bellevue scores a touchdown seven to nothing lead
after the turnover by Ben Caro and the fumble bell.
You kick moving from left to right, and a squib
kicked to the left side of the kickoff return formation
picked up there at the twenty yard line and he
breaks a tackle running right. Nico Massabong. There's a man

(11:08):
who picked up the loose ball that squibbed down to
about the twenty yard line, gets out to the thirty
one and that's where a day's gonna start. At second possession,
down seven to nothing in the three A State Championship
game of day, moving right to left as you listen
on the radio Dow or the iHeartRadio app in their
familiar maroon helmets, white Jersey road jerseys, gold pants with

(11:29):
something like usc and the Wolverines of Bellevue look like
the Wolverines of Michigan and all dark blue with gold
helmets and the familiar Michigan looking wolverine stripes on the
tops of the dark blue helmets. Officials have called time
and have asked the teams to go to the sideline.
We're gonna take a break. Five three left here in

(11:52):
the first quarter at a husky Stadium the three A
Championship games seven to noth in early Bellevue over oday
Back Stadium the Geese three A state championship game for
high school football in Washington. The officials have called not
only both coaches onto the field, but the athletic director
for Bellevue. The Ethnic director for Odey is coach Montey Cohler.

(12:14):
Michael Kneipe is out there and the officials are meeting
in the middle of the field as the players have
been on the sideline. I'm not sure what this is about.
Game administrators are on the field, the officials have their
cards out righting things, and the players. Monty Cohler has
the entire Oday team around him. He's talking somewhat animatedly
to him. That could be something of a sportsmanship or

(12:37):
a erlas on the game by the officials.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
I didn't notice anything unusual when they scored, so I'm
wondering what's going on.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
But the crudinite. The referee is Ryan Sorenson of the
Tri Cities Officials Association. The empire is Greg Olmsted from
the Pacific Northwest Association. The linesman is Joey Fleck from
the Western Washington Association. The line judge, Jeremy rash In
an Empire the back touch, David point, a junior is
South Sound, my old South Sound officiating association I used
to do. And Jeff Bogus the Trash Cities is the alternate.

(13:06):
Congratulations to them. They earned this assignment. That means they're
the best at what they do to do.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
The three A state championship, well, whatever it was they
nibbed in the button. The guys are back out there,
so we should be good to go from here.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Now. You rarely see athletic directors called onto the field
in the middle of championship football game, but here we go.
Oday's second possession. They turned it over at midfield on
the first on the but and Caro fumbled. It led
to Bellevue's touchdown on the first points of the game.
Five minutes left first quarter, Ode balled down seven outing
I formation.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
They're gonna go handoff right side, off right guard.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Minimal gain by Malik Dawson, the captain, the senior fullback.
He actually broke a tackle at the end of the
He got more than I thought again of about seven
or eight. Comebo Madden, the outside linebacker, a freshman starter
for Bellevue, made the tackle, but not until a seven
yard gain from Elie Dawson on his first carry of

(13:59):
the game. Impressive run.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Their offensive line got really good push and let's see
what the whole day fighting hours can do. After a
turnover on their first possession.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Split backs tight end to the left. Wide receivers either
side for a second and three for a day and
the turn and give again is inside the Dawson the
full back. He doesn't get much this time. Maybe no
again nothing. The line judge is right at the line
of scrimmage and it's third and three.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
You know, that's the player they saw on scout team
and said, hey, they run this, blow it up, big
number seventy six there, what's his name?

Speaker 2 (14:35):
That man is gigantic to Matri Manning. He's the one.
Dmitri Manning is the one who's going to Oregon signed
this week. It's wearing Oregon ducky yellow gold shoes. Two
wide receivers are left and split backs with a tight
end on the right. On third and three, O Day's
gonna throw rolling to the left side. Leverette completes the
pass for a first down across midfield, and again it's

(14:56):
the full back.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
This is the Malik Dawson drive.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Mason Hill got him out of boundsman until they got
crossed midfield of the forty eight yard nine of a
fourteen yard game on the first past second pass of
the game for a day.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
The last one was fumbled by Ben Carroll.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Interesting enough, who's seen three passes far far? If I had,
that's more than I thought. This throw all right right
right there. They're setting it up quite a bit, so
we'll see how this game continues.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
On oh Day Ball, Bellevue forty eight, first and ten
I formation, the Fighting Irish down seven of an earlier
quarterback hunting Leverett long Count now hands off on a
stretch play to the right and that doesn't get anywhere
for Ariahs Springfield a loss of about two. Bryce Smith

(15:38):
up hard from free safety, the senior team leader in interceptions,
making a tackle for loss there.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
That's a that's a huge play, one off one against
a running back, and if he doesn't make a play,
the running back could still be going and that could
have been a touchdown for the Fighting Irish. So really
good stop there by Bryce Smith.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's a free safety who's been watching power runs for
all week on film.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
A hundred your average rushing offense.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Second down on eleven, tight end of the right and
I formation four oday, Leverett turns and pitches the ball
on the right side to Stringfield, and Stringfield might have
gotten back to the original line of scrimmage of the
series of downs, maybe the forty eight And that's a
third and ten.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
Did you see Rocking Moon on that, just laying out
the fullback coming at him, clearing their waist so his
safety could make the play. Wow, that was impressive.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
There aren't too many roverback safeties that'll take on fullbacks
like we saw it there. Did to see that? There?
Two hundred and twelve pound full back Raking Moon is
two hundred pounds and he took out the lead balker.
Now it's third and ten for a day at the
Bellevue forty eight I formation again, red receivers either side,
and the tight ends on the right play action and
they're gonna throw Leverett once a long one down the

(16:49):
right sidelines, and the pass is tipped away nicely by
guess who, Raking Moon. He's everywhere as advertised, an incomplete
down the right side lines at about the fifteen yard line.
The pass was intended for the excuse me, I'm gonna
said the fullback, and it wasn't the fullback. It was
Devon Abaga, the z rod receiver, the five to nine,

(17:13):
one eighty senior.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Man right, and Moon is everywhere. That was just great recovery.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
He was able to have watched the receiver's hands and
when it touched him, he slapped the ball away.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
He got the fullback of second down and knocked away
a forty yard pass. On third down, Oday's got a
punt Owen Livingston's doing that. The ball hits at the
five and is allowed to roll into the end zone
because Bellevue is returned. Man didn't anything to do with that,
and a touchback for the Wolverines. Their second third possession
of the game will come next to the twenty yard line.

(17:45):
We have two fifteen left in the first quarter of
the State three A championship game at Husky Stadium. It's
seven offing Bellevue over second seed at Odai. But back
to Moon, that was really impressive. He was actually beat
on that play and he recovered quite well again, watching
the receiver's hands and making a play on the football.
Knocking incomplete Bylleby has the ball again a chance to
score Bylvy's got a wing right offset backfield to the

(18:08):
left and the handoff inside up the middle of Max Jones. Jones,
the two one hundred and six pounds junior, He's got
seventeen hundred and ninety one yards to lead Bellvue, but
he only gets about four there. David Swirzel, defensive end
on the tackle for Oday, Max Jones seventeen hundred ninety

(18:29):
one yards and twenty two touchdowns. Chris the three fullbacks
they use most thirty nine hundred yards and forty five
touchdowns on the ground this year.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Unheard of and so far Aday has been tested.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Fumbling the ball in the hand exchange. No Day's got
it at the twenty three yard line of Bellevue.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
A botched exchange on the handoff.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Case and Carter got tied up in the backfield trying
to get a quick inside handoff, and Chris, I think
it was Jeremiah no New again the nose tackle who
is right on the ball.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
He's had a really good first quarter.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yeah, he's getting pushed on the defensive line, pushing that
offensive line back. Yeah, look at that pushes him, gets
the ball, sees it gets on it.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
That was an inside handof it looks like fullback Mike
Mark Max Jones wasn't expecting.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Fighting hours have a chance? Can they responk and they
put punching the ball. Let's see if the wolver Wins
defense can make it.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Any chance for a day here first and ten on
the turnover the ball at the Bellevue twenty three O
Day down seven I think late first quarter I formation
for O Day the turning to get a hand off
the stringfield and he's running left side and he gets
inside the twenty down to about the seventeen yard line.
That's a gain of six on first down into the
red zone. Turnovers so far one for each team. Odey's

(19:48):
trying to even up the points after touchdown here to
tie the score at seven points after turnovers. Should say
that's the second tackle the game by Madden. Carmelo Madden,
the freshman outside linebacker. Second and four fro day out
of I formation again tight ends on the right, sudden.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
Eleverate hands off inside.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
That's the fullback this time Elik Davidson, and Davidson's got
a first down inside the ten yard line. All he's sharp.
The middle linebacker didn't get him until after a gain
of about seven impressive run.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
I think O'Day has found a rhythm, and I think
they're gonna try to punch it right in for a
touchdown here there. Their offensive line is getting really good
push and they are I think the momentum has suede.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
They're having more success on the quicker hitting runs inside
than the stretch plays they've tried to run high formation
first and goal O Day at the nine down seven,
I think like first quarter and the stringfield gets the
handoff and is hit hard by Moon again.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
He's everywhere King Moon, man Mic.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
And Moon forty yards off the widest scrimmage, making defensive
pass breaks ups. He's taking on lead blockers and taking
the fullback out and there he hits the running back
for a game of four second and goal from the
sixth from Oday. We're in the final minute of the
first quarter at Husky Stadium in the three A championship game.
Bellvy le Oday seven. I think split backs, this time

(21:02):
a tight end on the right. Leverett turns it, hands
it off and Stringfeler stringfield excuse me is tackled in
the backfield for a loss by Darien Davis four and
a half tackles for loss this regular season.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
He's got one.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
There got an injury. That's like second's remaining in the
first quarter, and there's a Bellevue player down at the
three yard line and the trainers are over him, and
I can't see because the trainers are over him.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
I believe it is Matthias.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
It's gonna be third and goal after the injury time out.
Matthias Kaleppo, the five eleven t forty five pounds junior
defensive end mount side transfer, is who Chris thinks is
down on the ground. He's down on the ground holding

(21:50):
his face mask as the trainer is leaning over him,
left prop, left leg propped up, and now he's sitting up.
Michael Kanipe, his head coach, helped him get off the ground.
He's gonna walk slowly to the Bellevue sideline, which is
on the north sideline of Husky Stadium to night.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
The good news is he's running off on his own power,
so that's always good to see. So hope he's able
to return to the game.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
We have a third and goal for Oday.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
Seven seconds left in the first quarter, a fighting Irish
trail number one Bellevue seven I think, but just got
a turnover at the twenty three yard line of Bellevue
and trying to cash that in for the tying touchdown.
The fumbled hand off exchange is what created this situation
for Oday. Third and goal and they're in split backs

(22:41):
tight end on the right, wide receivers to either side.
Leverett under center gives it and though he's going to
keep it on an option keeper, he runs inside. He's
carrying the linebacker into the end zone for a touchdown
for Oday. That's a big, gutty run by the one
hundred and fifty five pounds junior quarterback.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
He ran through the linebacker to get the touchdown.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
I had to play a meeting hunting this morning, this
afternoon today, and he was excited for the opportunity to compete.
And there he shows his competitiveness and carries a few
defenders into the end zone. Guests on a QB option
had the ability to flip it out to this running
back and decided, you know what, I'm gonna keep this
and carry a few defenders with me, and he.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Ran over Bryce Smith who hit him at the two
yard line. Get Hunter Hutt and LeVert carried him into
the end zone. Here's the point after touchdown from owing
Livingston to try to tie the game.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Snap pulled kick all good.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
That is the final play of the first quarter a
Husky Stadium in the Class three eight championship game. A
five play twenty three yard drive after the botched handoff
exchange by Bellevue at their own twenty three and we're
tied at Husky Stadium. It's so Day seven Bellevue seven.
At the end of the first quarter of the three
A GISA Championship game on Sports Radio nine to fifty KJRFM,

(23:56):
we're back at Husky Stadium. This what WA Geese State
Football champions is presented by the Seattle Seahawks and brought
to you by the US Army, Go Army, Beat Navy,
Trusted Will Sound, Transit, and Dick's Driving Restaurants. Army's up
twenty one to seven at the half. Only were two
lane at home at West Point for the American Association
Conference Championship. Just saying, oh, I know if you listen

(24:18):
to us on Factor Fiction every morning. I had that
back on Monday. Here's the kickoff. Bellevue is kicking from
left to right to begin the second quarter, and he's
taken by ranking Moon at the five and Moon gets
out across the twenty five down at the twenty nine
yard line, holding his arm on the tackle for Oday
number seventeen eighth Evan Prococ.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Yeah, he took a shot there bringing in the ball carrier,
but hopefully he'll be okay. It looks like a stinger,
but we'll see what happens as the game progresses.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
My man Craig next to me tells me Bellevue eleven
rushes twenty six yards in the first quarter. That's not
too happening too often to Bellevue for me.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
No, they're meeting their match when it comes to running
the football team that's well prepared.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
He can get off blocks. We'll see how the second
quarter starts.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
They go Ryk and Moon on a misdirection play to
the right side, running left to right, and he's stacked
up for no gain. Strung out and stacked up for
no gain that time. Sage Slopek signed with Montana this week.
The five eleven senior cornerback with the tackle for no
gain on Ryking Moon. Impressive tackle there.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
That's someone that's Moon's elusive and he's showing his speed
and his ability to break tackles. He stiff on one
defender there you saw Sage is able to bring him down.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Moon the sun of course, Warren Moon wearing the same
jersey number number one that his daddy did, starring it
here on this field at Husky Stadium up the middle
on second and ten, and that goes nowhere from Max
Jones in Bellevue maybe one, maybe one.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
What an impressive stop there, just finding space and getting
in the backfield. King a Lah Jeremiah Nonu is playing
one heck of a game and so far in the
first order plus a minute and a half, the nose
tackle the junior and it's third and nine for Bellevue.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
They also are not in these situations that much. Uh,
you want to take a gamble here that they throw
a past Greg.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
It've done one already for forty four yards set up
the first touchdown to break in Moon, the forty four
yard pass from car to Moon by to the first score.
They're in two tight ends here and there's a whistle
now in formation. Bellevue was called the first time out
of the first half. We'll take a break seven seven

(26:34):
minut and a half into the second quarter. A Husky
Stadium back on Sports Trader nine to fifty kJ RFM
back at Husky Stadium in twenty twenty four WI East
of State Football Championships, a pretsident end by the Seattle Seahawks,
brought to you by the US Army, Go Army, beat
Navy Trust and will Sound Transit and Dick's Drive in Restaurants.
Statisician Supreme Craig Hiamoto reminds me that's the second time

(26:58):
out charged to Bellevue the first half, and it's third
and eight for the Wolverines tight two tight end formation,
and they pitch right outside the Ryking Moon.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
He's getting chased and dragged.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Down from behind on a really nice play in the
open field. Peter Sander, senior linebacker listed second on the
depth chart first on the play there to stop Ryking
Moon for just a gain of one. And they're tying
up Ryk and Moon in the offense for Bellvy right now.
The one big play to pass play the Rykan Moon

(27:28):
has been about it. They've gotten offensively.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
They have keenan on the one game and are looking
to make sure they do not allow them to beat
him on the run. If you want to throw it
in the air, we'll take the Seahawks. The fighting hours said,
we'll take our chances.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Nathan Nora is gonna punt and it's a low squid kick,
missed hit. I don't think he meant to do that,
but it rolls across the forty five inside the thirty
down about the twenty eight yard lines where Belvy is
gonna down. That case Parker, the punt returner for Ode
Smart to not anywhere near that.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
That looked like a frisbee going through them back.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Of the defense. There forty yard punt that may be
traveled what fifteen yards in the air?

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Well, you know what, at the end of the day,
it's a forty yard punt, right, So I'm sure the
wolver winers saying, hey, we'll take that. Oday's gonna have
possession in a tie game seven seven, nine fifty two
remaining in the second quarter at Husky Stadium, the Giza
w IA three A championship game.

Speaker 4 (28:23):
Let's see if the Irish can respond here and put
more points on the board against the defense that has
shown that they can.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Stop them I formation for a day. They mostly I
and split backs as they often are in their Viera offense,
and here comes a lead handoff to stringfield excuse me,
off right tackle and he gains maybe two Alie Sharp?

(28:48):
Who else? It's Allie Sharp right and Moon on defense
tonight all thom and mellow Fadden. Yeah he's made.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
Yeah, he's been outside lineback.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
He knows where he needs to be in it has
been keen to get into the football. But it looks
like the Irish are keen on attacking the edge and
getting outside. And we'll see if they go back inside
on some of their runs.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
Here second to nine for Oday, again, I formation with
a tight end on the right, wide receivers on either side.
It's another inside handoff. That's the fullback Madden. He gets
to maybe the thirty three fifty one Darien Davis on
the stop for Bellevue and it's a third and five

(29:31):
at the thirty three yard line of days own thirty three,
fighting Irish with the ball on a seven to seven
tie eight to forty five remaining second quarter at Husky
Stadium in the three eight championship game.

Speaker 4 (29:41):
I'm curious as Obey throw the football here.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
I think they do, Chris. They they have gotten nothing
inside on the runs. The one passed attempt at Ban
Carroll he caught on a bubble screen, then fumbled and
set up the first touchdown by Bellvue. Now they're shifting
into shotgun between split backs. Quarterback Leverett takes the step
and gives it on a handoff right side on his
own reach. Stringfield breaks through a tackle, spins through another,

(30:05):
and gets across the forty for a well earned first down. Yeah,
he fought for that. There was three Wolverine defenders on him,
but he was able to spin out for a game
of seven in a first down.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
That's Stringfield's best run of the night.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
He had three hundred one yards last week when o'de
rallied to beat the East Side Catholic in the state semifinals.
String Stringfield there gives a first down for a day
at their own forty.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
Again I formation.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
And again it's Stringfeld, and this time the big man
Dmitri Manning.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Stacks him up, wraps him down. Yeah, he got instant pressure.
As soon as the ball was snapped. He was in
the backfield making a play. I think Manning got the
ball loose and got into the backfield though, Yeah, called
it a fumble loss of what four yards there? So
Oday's backing up after the fumble.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Dave On Abaga was alert enough at wide receiver to
come into the backfield and recover that ball. But that
lost five yard four yards and now it's second and fourteen.
But yeah, Dmitri Manning eighty three inch wing speed spans
six seven three point thirty six. CHRISTI were on the
field before the game. He was like Andre the Giant
was down there. Second and fourteen for Oday. They fake

(31:18):
a pitch and they roll the quarterback levered out to
the right side. This looks like a run keeping it
is for the quarterback and he gets to the forty
five yard line and gets out of bound at the
forty four make it out of bounds there because Brody Trevis,
the cornerback for steam out of bounds for a third
and five, six yards to go for Oday. Oday's three

(31:39):
for four on third down so far in the game.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Well, they were looking to pass there, a great concept,
but the Wolverines were They covered it very well and
the quarterback made the right decision by keeping it and
running it out of bounds there.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
It's high formation. Yet again, two wide receivers have left,
this time for a day on a third and six
at their own forty four seven to seven game, early
second quarter, motion into the forur maation. They faked two
plays and I'll pulled throw the ball out to the
right side to Ben Carrol and he's got it again
on a short pass, but this time games maybe three,
maybe two, and he needed five again at thighs. Klopa,

(32:14):
who was injured a couple of plays ago, back onto
the field, makes a tackle one third down. It's only
the second time and five third downs that Odey got stopped.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
A lot of eye can do there.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
They show one thing on the left side and they
swing it back to the right and it's a screen.
Just a really great concept. But again the Wolverene stayed
within their defense, saw what was coming and was able
to make this stop.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
And it looks like the Iris are going to punt
the football.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Fourth and three, just short of midfield in a tie game,
early second quarter, says Livingston, the punter who was also
the place kicker, and he sends one short bounding at
the thirty down by Oday at the bellevue twenty seven.
That's where Wolverines will take over in a seven to

(32:56):
seven game with six twenty three remaining in the first half.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
A really good stop by the Wolverines a really good stop. O.
Date tried to show them a lot of trickery there, and.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
They went inside, fake handoff at an end around, fake
handoff to ben Caro and just had ben Caro running
all the way out to the right side, continuing with
the swing pass. There were three defenders as soon as
he caught the pass. Yeah, that's happened twice now in
short catches by Ben Caro, the star wide receiver for Oday.
First and ten, Bellevue split backs in a wing right
and they go up the middleman Max Jones, off left guard,

(33:29):
and Jones fights through contact and gets about eight yards
after he was hit about five yards into the run.
Chase Barker, the first man on the stop four O
Day ta Vita Nonu, brother of Jeremiah the nos tackle
Tavita sophomore with an assist on that stop for Oday,
but not after a seven yard gain on first down

(33:51):
for Bellevue.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
Throw into the line in a hurry this time.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
They moved the left tackle, Manning over to the right
side this time, and an unbalanced look and they go
right side behind Manning and they're gonna get a first
down for that. Ta Vita Nonu on the stop, but
not after a first down for Bellevue.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
Now he was able to get just enough of him
bring it, given a nice little push and unfortunately it
was a first down, but it could have.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
Been much more if New did no New did not
get a hand on him there.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
That's twice tonight Bellevue is gone an over shift to
the other side with an unbalanced formation. They did it
the goal line and scored a touchdown earlier. The only
touchdowns for Bellevue so far. First and ten they handed
off right side and they get outside the tackle. That's
Bryce Smith on the carry. Smith gets about four king

(34:52):
Ava stopped in there. The Sam senior Sam linebacker. Second
and seven for Bellevue. We're in Husky Stadium the Class
three A state championship game on Sports Radio nine to
fifty am.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
That was just impressive.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
Saw the play and hit the hole and was able
to stop the care for a game of what three yards?

Speaker 2 (35:10):
They go unbalanced again, this time to the left side
with the wing left and they run that way. Max
Jones is immediately tackled as soon as he got the handoff.

Speaker 6 (35:19):
A year.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
That's solely Siale junior defensive end not blocked.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Tackle correction, Greg my bad. It was actually Tavidannu yep.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Second consecutive tackle for him, and now Bellevue has got
a third and seven. They're oh for three on third downs.
How many games in the last few years as Bellevue
have been oh for three on third down?

Speaker 3 (35:41):
I will say this, I don't know how many this season,
but not not till tonight, I'll tell you that much.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
They've won seventy of their last eighty games third down.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Here they go fake inside handoff and they roll outside
with Ryker Moon in a great open field tackle by
Chase Barker. The cornerback coming up hard, one hundred and
fifty six pounds senior cuts down the two hundred pound
Riker Moon.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Yeah, that was just impressive, running full speed and able
to make the stop. Got him by the legs and
stop them short of the stakes. Just an impressive stop
by the Irish. There seems to be a player down.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
I hope he's all good, no day, player on his
back and the trainers are training to him immediately. We
got a fourth down in about four at their own
forty four for Bellevue in a seven to seven game,
just under five minutes remaining in this I excuse me,
just over four minutes remaining in the second quarter. If
you're a coach, do you go for this year or

(36:36):
do you think so? On their own end, Chris, they
haven't been able to control the line of scrimmage enough.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
Well, as you mentioned what they're for three now zero
for four on third down. So put it in the
hands of your defense and hope they can get another
stop and get an opportunity to get the ball back
and score some points.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
Yeah, they can play defense in timeouts here and then
the high school game, of course, clock stops a lot
more often than college and pro games. Belle only has
one timeout in the first half.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Is that case that's down or we're be able to
get a number on? No, Actually I see case he's walking.
Is that case walking around? I can't tell. But I
also don't see who's the one that's actually getting looked
at by the trainers. Well, it's a big fellow. I
believe you're looking at King. Can't tell the numbers scrunched up.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
I don't want to guess and worry anyone. But he's
limping on it, not able to put his weight on
his right foot as he limps to the sideline. Bellevue's
offense still looks like they may still be on the

(37:45):
field and it's fourth and four.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
The injured player for a day, Peter Sander.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Senior, two hundred and ten pounds linebacker and ode Bellevue
is gonna go for it. Chris to Marsprs nineteen carries
and forty five yards to begin this game. That's two
and a half yards to carry for a team that
averages nine yards per rest this season. Fourth and four,
they're going for it on they're on forty four, they're
in split, they're in double tight formation, and now looks

(38:17):
like they're gonna take their.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
Queue from the sideline.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
It looks like they may have been trying to draw
oday off side with a long count, and now Michael Kanape,
the head coach of Bellevue, calls time out from the
sideline the last time out for Bellevue of the half,
and they didn't look at like they were intending to
run and play there.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yeah, I thought it looked as if they wanted to
see if they can draw the Irish off side and
see if they can get some free yards, because what
is it fourth and five, so automatic first down if
that's the case, expect.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
The punter to come back onto the field now seven
to seven game. Bellevue this year beat Bethel to begin
a season thirty five to seven, be Lake Stevens for
a power thirty one to twenty one. They beat Mount
Side thirty four for then they beat Bafel thirty five,
Skyline fifty three eighteen East Lake forty two to twenty seven.
East Like's the only team the score over twenty one

(39:05):
points this year on Bellevue Woodinville fifty five to seven
win for the Wolverines that Interlake. Bellevue won fifth forty
two six forty eight nothing Shortcress, and then the playoffs
they beat sixteen seeds Stanwood twenty four to fourteen in
a round of sixteen may be eight seed Kennewick forty
two to six and the quarterfinals, and then last week
beat fifth seed at Roosevelt twenty nine, thirteen point away

(39:27):
at the end of a close game to get into
this championship game, seventeen state final in school history, seventh season.
Michael Kannight, the twenty four year old alumn who took
over at age twenty four in twenty eighteen as head coach.
This would be the third state title in four years
for Bellevue, But they're punting in a seven to seven
game late first half. Punt is fielded at about the

(39:50):
fifteen yard line Saide Silopic and Silopic runs from the
right side of the field to the left from about
the fifteen yard line out to the thirty for a
fifteen yard return of the punt. Bellevue pun of tonight,
probably more tonight than they have in the last three
four months.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Quite impressive how well the defense for the Iris are
playing so far in the first half with a few
minutes left. They've been really good at getting to the
ball carrier, bringing them down and not allowing extra yarders
after that. So really impressive start for the fighting Irish defense.
We'll see how the offense can respawn on this possession.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
Odey offense, Hunter Levett the quarterback three for four passing
for twenty five yards. O Day's fifteen carriage for fifty
one yards so far on the ground, and they're an
eye formation on first and ten from their own thirty
year and they give it to Stringfield running right side
and he's stacked up immediately. Dmitri manning the big nose
tackle ahead to Oregon first one on the stop the

(40:50):
gain of one second and nine for Oday three also
three minutes on a running clock. First half also is
right pretty close. Madden was in there as well as
Carmelo Madden's fourth stop in the first half.

Speaker 4 (41:03):
He is making plays.

Speaker 2 (41:04):
He's a freshman starting at linebacker. It's second and nine
for a day. They're split backs this time instead of
I quick drop and throw by leveret out to the
right side and it's caught in a move by Madden.
Is usually a fullback split out wide right and he
gets about to the line to gain at the forty
yard Line's going to be a first down for oh day.

(41:25):
Brody Trevi is on the coverage and tackle, but not
until a first down for a day.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
I wonder how often they can do that, because Bellevue
is giving them that flat. If they want to throw that,
that is their all game. But I do understand the
Irish are looking to ground and pound and find their
way into the end zone using the of running the football, So.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
They'd also like to use the rest of this first
half clock chew it up. It's got two thirty left
on a running clock. They're at their own forty and
a seven to seventh game in a three A title game,
inside handoff to Madden the fullback who just caught the
pass for the first down. This time he gets five
yards on first down run to Mitri Manning again the
six seven three and thirty six pounds senior eighty three

(42:01):
inch wingspan.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
Well, he did just carry him, so I'll give credit.
He carried him for a few yards. Very impressive run.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
He visited U Dublin May thirty, first went to Oregon
to visit the next week, and then committed to Oregon
after that one that the Dogs let get away. And
there's the second of five run for a first down
by Stringfield. Allis sharp. The middle linebacker for Bellvue made
it tackle, but again not until a first down for oday.
We've got two minutes left first half and Bellevue's Odey

(42:31):
is moving in a seven to seven game across midfield.
Quick drop by Leverett, throws down the right side for
Ben Carro and the passes over his outstretched r flag
with flags coming in as the ball hit at the
twenty yard line out of mounds. I'm not sure that
that was enough contact to warrant a penalty.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
I thought the ball was overthrown. So I'm curious to
see if they picked this up and and it's nothing.

Speaker 4 (42:50):
But we'll see here what the officials have high school
for officials rarely pick up the flags. They think, oh
fun fact, they rarely pick them up. It's gonna be
a fifteen your defensive pass interference penalty on bellevue. It appears.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
Yep. Referee Ryan Sorenson delivers that signal for defensive passing
inference on bellevue. That's the first penalty on either team tonight,
and it comes with one fifty five remaining in the
second quarter, and it puts O'Day a first and ten
at the bellevue thirty four in a seven to seven game.

(43:29):
Do you go to play action here at Gregs? You
didn't catch them sleep say with today they motion the
fullback out to right wing. They have a single back behind,
and Leverett gives it to that single back running left,
Peyton Egan. Peyton Egan cuts to the right and he
gets to the twenty one yard line for a gain
of thirteen on first down to another first down.

Speaker 3 (43:49):
For a day impressive running there is able to find
a little wiggle room through the middle of the field.
And then break back outside, make a few guys missed
before he was brought down by Bryce Smith, just got
his feet tangled up.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
Egan's first carry the night a sophomore five nine six two,
and it's for thirteen yards to the twenty one yard
line in a seven to seven game of Day's march
and trying to take the lead pitch left Stringfield gets
a block from his full back and the penalty flag
down on that block and a tackle at the line
of scrimmage with a penalty flag the boot and this

(44:21):
may be a holding call on the block on the
lead block on the sweep left. Yeah, I think that's
gonna be holding. What do you say, Greg, I think
it's pretty obvious hold There won twenty seven remaining first
half seven to seven in a three eight championship game
at Husky Stadium in Seattle, YEP.

Speaker 4 (44:42):
That's what it is holding on oday.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
Ryan Sorenson, the referee, just informed well, that'll be the
second penalty of the game. So a really clean.

Speaker 4 (44:51):
Football game between these two.

Speaker 3 (44:53):
But now you're seeing a little bit maybe guys getting
tired here and there, So we'll see how this sec
this first half finishes.

Speaker 2 (44:59):
First in twenty now for a day one twenty seven
on a stopclock, second quarter Oday seven, Bellevue seven and
the three, a state championship game brought to you by
Giza the WIA. In the Seattle Seahawks I formation, first
and twenty, Leverett the quarterback with a squad to get
the snap from center. He gives it to Stringfield off
right guard, and Stringfield doesn't go very far, maybe four,

(45:23):
maybe three. It'll be second and long with a minute
five remaining. Dmitri Manning again, the big man in the middle.
They can't move him out of the middle, makes the tackle.

Speaker 4 (45:33):
Yeah, he just ran into him and said, give me
a hug, young man.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
Stop for a small game. There, he is definitely holding
down the inside. Fifty five seconds left on a running cock.
Second down in about fifteen pitch left and then Stringfield
cuts right.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
He gets to the twenty. That's right near the sticks.
On the cutback run, he's got a first down. Excuse me,
that's the lead stick. It's second. It'll be third and ten.
They had double sticks there, third and ten. Pardon me
for Oday. At the twenty yard line in a timeout
by the fighting Irish, forty four seconds remain in the

(46:08):
first half at seven to seven, they're in field goal
range and they have a kicker that can do it.
Owen Livingston kicked three last week in the state semifinal
game over East Side Catholic. Only one touchdown in that
game was Ben Carro with twenty seven seconds left, jumping
between two defenders and catching a fifty eight yard touchdown
pass from Leverett. That was it.

Speaker 4 (46:28):
Rest was three field goals by owing Livingston.

Speaker 2 (46:30):
They're in range for a thirty seven yard field goal
would be at this point.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
Well, I guess you just run the football here, and
I think so give it to them and try to
get three on the board and take a ten to
seven league going into the half.

Speaker 4 (46:42):
I think that's what they're gonna try to do.

Speaker 2 (46:43):
Although we'll see they got forty four seconds hand two
timeouts remaining.

Speaker 4 (46:50):
O'Dell does, but it's third and nine right.

Speaker 2 (46:53):
Hash Mark moving left to right in Husky Stadium into
the Lake Washington end of the field, at squats to
get the center and direct snap. He play actions and
goes drop deep drop throws over the middle. The passes
there he is in the right corner. The ends up
for a touchdown for Oday Malik Dawson down, went from

(47:16):
the middle of the field down the right sideline, and
the pass from Hutton Leverett was true.

Speaker 4 (47:22):
His twelfth touchdown pass of the season.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
It's only the third one that hasn't gone to Ben
Carro and it has Oday in the lead in the
state title game.

Speaker 3 (47:29):
That is a opportunity that the Irish took. They said,
we're gonna go through the air, see if we can
get the Wolverines caught in confusion, and then that's exactly
what happened. Somehow he was wide open in the back
of the end zone. Maybe a coverage bust there, just
a miscommunication on the defense, and the Irish are looking
to take a fourteen to seven league going in to
the halftime, so bump.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
That field goal. Oli Leerson's gonna kick a point after
touchdown instead, and he gets that through and Oday, the
second seed has a fourteen to seven lead on Bellevue
with thirty seven seconds remaining in the second quarter. That's
an eight place, seventy yard drive in two fifty three,
ending with the touchdown pass twenty one yards Leverett.

Speaker 4 (48:15):
Timlik Dawson has Oday.

Speaker 2 (48:16):
In the league.

Speaker 3 (48:17):
Impressive drive there by the Irish, but still thirty seven
seconds The problem is the Wolverines don't have any more
time out, so how aggressive will they be knowing that, yeah,
not offense that doesn't do this exactly. So the Irish
have an advantage right now. Dare I say just because
as you mentioned, they the Wolverines aren't in positions where
they want to throw the football. They are a team

(48:38):
that likes to run it. So this will be interesting
to see how they close out this first half.

Speaker 2 (48:42):
They won the toss and they defer, so they're going
to get the second half kickoff. They get a chance
for a two for one here, only interrupted by a
twenty seven second mini drive here for a bell view
the position the Wolverines are not used to being in,
down fourteen to seven in the three a champion chip gain.
In the final minute of the first half, Oan Livingston's

(49:04):
gonna kick off from left to right and he sends
it to the three yard line and that's where it's
starting to return by Moon RK and Moon, son of
Warren Moon returns it from the two out to the
thirty one yard line of twenty nine yard return.

Speaker 4 (49:20):
Twenty nine seconds remain in the first half.

Speaker 2 (49:27):
Let's see what do Chris, You're right This is not
an offense built for this. Yeah, they run for four
hundred yards a game. They have twenty five passes the
entire season.

Speaker 4 (49:36):
If you're the coach, do you try and throw it
down the field?

Speaker 2 (49:38):
Are you?

Speaker 3 (49:39):
Are you sticking with what you do and you know
youn't have any timeouts and you just you better.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
Throw it far enough where if an interception won't cause
the points in the other end of the comeback. With
only twenty nine seconds left in the half, they're in
a tight formation with two tight ends of the right
and they're gonna run it, and they run wide to
the right and Bryce Smith gets taken down after a
game of just two.

Speaker 3 (50:04):
A little hurry up, so they're just probably gonna run
one more play. Here it appears with about ten seconds.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
Let's see Ali again on the tackle the left defensive end.
And yet they don't have to run another play, and
they don't look anything. Hurry to five seconds three on
a running clock. They do get the snap off and
they pitch left on the final play of the first half,
and that doesn't go anywhere either. Matthew Reed got the pitch,

(50:28):
went left and got only two yards, and the half
has ended and it's a good one from Oday, very impressive.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
After a turnover to start the game for them on
the first possession, they've responded well, closing the half with
a pass for a touchdown. Let's see what happens in
the second half. But this has been a really cool
first half for the Irish and Wolverines have a lot
to respond to. We'll see what they can do in
the second half. It's halftime at Husky Stadium.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
The Geese of three to a championship game at WIA
State Championship. The second seed Oday fighting Irish fourteen Bellevue
Wolverine seven. It's halftime on Sports Radio nine fifty kjri M.

Speaker 1 (51:07):
It's halftime by the WYA GIESA Credit Union State High
School Football Championships presented by the Seattle Seahawks and brought
to you by GIESA, Credit Union US Army Trust and
Will Sound Transit and Dig's Drive in Restaurants.

Speaker 2 (51:31):
We're back at Husky Stadium the WA GEESA State Championship
game for Class three A. It's halftime and Odey has
a fourteen to seven lead over top seed Bellevue. We're
joined now by John Manley the News Tribune. He's been
on our Chris greg Best Show with Christopher kid Here
the last three weeks. He's a high school proud sports

(51:51):
writer extraordinair. Nominated as the Washington State Sports Writer of
the Year. He joins us here Husky Stadium. He's covering
a game tonight for the Interstribute. John, your impressions of
a first half where Oday really handled a line of
scrimmage against Bellevue.

Speaker 7 (52:10):
Yeah, I'm a little surprised they're up, but not shocked.
I felt like it would be a tight game at halftime,
and that's kind of what we've seen. But I think
especially defensively, Oday has really come to play. And the
defensive line. You knew their edge guys Cla and Schwortzel
are really good players. But then when you go up
against this offense, your your corners have to be ready

(52:32):
to play too. I mean, you're not just sitting back
there in pass coverage, and their corners, their DB's have
been really active and ready to tackle because Bellevue wants
to stretch a lot of things and kind of get
to the sideline and they haven't been able to do
any of that. So really good game playing clearly by Oday.
Defensively here.

Speaker 2 (52:50):
Bellevue average is more than four hundred yards of offense
per game, almost all of it on the ground. They
have ninety five total yards and twenty two plays so far.
Our only touchdown came after a turnover by Oday in
the long pass that got them down in other than that,
that opportunity is the only time. That was the only

(53:10):
sustained drive that Bellevue's had. This is an uncarried position
decision for a coach Michael Kaip's team to be in.
How do you think they respond here in the second half,
John Well?

Speaker 7 (53:19):
And it's kind of there was that way a couple times.
O'Day's touchdown they get right after the fumble right there
just outside the red zone was twenty twenty one. Yeah, right,
And so I think turnovers obviously you're gonna loom large
and then and you saw the big play over the top,
and they're gonna need some of those. But yeah, I
think it's a it's a turnover field position type of game, right.

(53:43):
I mean, you saw O'Day has this fourth and three
near midfield, and you think, okay, let's go for this,
and they decide to punt, and I think in monti
Kohler's mind. That's that's what he's thinking. This is a
field position type of game, and if we can generate
a turnover or get them a kind of pinned back
and get a short field, that's gonna be the type
of things you need to win a tight defensive game

(54:05):
like this.

Speaker 2 (54:05):
It was a forty four yard pass from Case and Carter,
a sophomore quarterback, to Ryk and Moon that got Bellevue
to their only touchdown.

Speaker 4 (54:13):
That's half their yard each.

Speaker 2 (54:15):
John there's fifty one yards rushing on twenty one carries
for Bellevue.

Speaker 4 (54:20):
They've tried Reyk and.

Speaker 2 (54:20):
Moon on some stretch plays and some five sweeps. They've
tried to go inside. Max Jones hasn't gotten anything going yet.
They featured Reikan Moon quite a bit. Do you think
that what can they do with They haven't done with
him again that might work against.

Speaker 7 (54:34):
I think they just got to keep doing what they're doing.
I think this is kind of the Bellevue recipe, and
you keep going at them and keep hammering them and
eventually you might break some of these right. But you know,
I think oday, like I said, they've been ready to play.
They've kind of set the tone on the edge, both
on the on the d line and the corners as well,
and they're not giving Bellvue those those stretch plays that
they that they want to kind of hit on right now.

Speaker 2 (54:56):
You were here for the first game of the the
game right before this in the after new number one Royal,
it was tied at twenty one at halftime, was seating
Catholic in the one A final, and then Royal does
what Royal does, right, I mean, yeah, boat raced him
into second half. They end up winning what was it
final score six but twenty one twenty one game at
a half.

Speaker 7 (55:16):
And I think I'm what I saw is there are
four fumbles. I think they lost two in the first half,
and I think it was more Royal just kind of
shooting themselves in the foot in in the first half
rather than uh seedhen Katholic doing anything crazy. But yeah,
Seeden Catholic came to play and they were clearly hyped up.
And I think anytime any team gets a crack at Royal,
especially when you're playing here at Husky Stadium, you know

(55:36):
you're you're hyped up to try to beat the team
that's that's won four in a row. So I wasn't
surprised that they came out with that kind of energy.
But but Lance all read he was phenomenal. Seven touchdowns
rushed for six uh yeah, past two hundred and three
rushing yards, six touchdowns passed for another touchdown.

Speaker 4 (55:55):
Four hundred three total yards from Lance.

Speaker 7 (55:57):
It's an incredibly special effort. And then you look at
the scoreboard and you can't believe they've hung sixty in
the state championship game.

Speaker 2 (56:05):
Five in a row.

Speaker 7 (56:05):
I think eight of their last nine eight of the
last nine one A titles they won now and it's
really an incredible run.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
And they're in Royal City. I think they go to
two A. Is that where it's gonna take even with enrollment.

Speaker 7 (56:17):
I don't know what the enrollment numbers dictate, but uh yeah,
put them in two A with Tomwater. Why not let's
have a Royal tom Water matchup. That would be a
good time.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
Tom Arrow and Anna Quarters are playing tomorrow at three
pm in the two A title game. John will be
here for that as well, and then the four A
championship game is tomorrow night, seven pm. Number one Camus
number two Sumner. John will be covering that for the
News Tribune and the Newstribune dot Com. We had John
this week to talk about that game. John, but what
are you looking forward to tomorrow between Summer and camus See.

Speaker 7 (56:47):
I think that's the game I'm most excited for because
it's truly in my mind and we'll see how it
plays out on the field, but in my mind, it's
it's really a toss up.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
I think we had.

Speaker 7 (56:56):
Picked Sumner by three. The Columbian newspaper down there in
Vancouver they picked Campus by three.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
So it's I.

Speaker 7 (57:03):
Don't think anyone thinks it's gonna be any kind of blowout,
and it's just you know, you're gonna need some some
big plays. It's like this game we're just watching, it's
maybe a turnover here there that gives you a short field.

Speaker 2 (57:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (57:16):
I think that's by far the game I'm I'm most
excited for. I really think it can go either way.
And you know, just being a South Sound reporter and
seeing Keith Ross been there for twenty three years now
at Sumner, I think it would be incredibly special if
they were able to win his first his first state title.

Speaker 2 (57:35):
The Class one B championship game was this morning, kicked
off during my radio show from ten to noon on
ninety three, twenty three KGr FM number two, Winston wilbur
Creston Color forty two thirty four of our Liberty Christian.
They gained four hundred and sixteen yards on eighty two
rushes wilbur Creston Color did and that game exploded at

(57:57):
scoring after a slow start and he was a twenty
to eight game late in the first half, and that
ended up being forty two thirty four.

Speaker 7 (58:05):
Yeah, And it sounded like there their quarterback had had
gotten heard earlier in the week or something, is what
I heard. It's and so they were gonna try to
be pretty run heavy and like you said, over over
four hundred yards of.

Speaker 4 (58:15):
The two rush man.

Speaker 2 (58:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (58:17):
And the most incredible stat to me from that game
greg forty minutes and thirty one seconds of possession times.
I don't know, yeah, I don't know if I've ever
seen that before. And the fact that they controlled had
the ball for almost the entire game, and then Liberty
Christian still puts up at thirty four points. It's gotta
it's a very straight I don't know if I've ever

(58:37):
seen anything like that.

Speaker 4 (58:39):
What'd you pick for this game? What do you expect
in the second half.

Speaker 7 (58:41):
Well, I picked Bellevue, but I didn't think it would
be a blowout either way. I think I I think
we had Bellevue by four or seven or something like that.
So you know, this is kind of what I expected.
I I thought it might be tied or something in half.
I didn't see oday with a lead necessarily, But but
I think this is this is just what you want
if you're O Day. I mean, I don't know if
Bellevue necessarily is built to play from behind the way

(59:06):
when you feature such a run heavy offense. But I
don't think there's gonna be any panic from Bellevue. I mean,
they're a really good team. They know they are, and
you know, you go down and get a touchdown and
this game's tied up again. So yeah, I think, like
I had said a few minutes ago, it's really a
field position type of game. So can you pin a
team deep, can you get a stop, can you get

(59:27):
a turnover near midfield or near the red zone? I
think that's kind of how this game shakes out down
the stretch, and we'll see who wins it.

Speaker 2 (59:34):
Let's talk for a minute about Monte Kohler's legacy. Fortieth year.
This is the thirty first state tournament. And if he
wins tonight, as you know, John, he'll have three hundred
and ninety four career wins. That what's tie him with
Exkolvax and of course Tom Water coach and legend sit
on and that's the state's all time winning his coach.
If he wins tonight, Monty Cohler nineteen eighty five is

(59:55):
when he began coaching at oday, I mean, he'll go
down as one of the best high school sports coaches
on the West Coast. Ever.

Speaker 7 (01:00:02):
Yeah, it's it's incredible. I think anytime you have that
type of longevity and and not just I think people say, oh,
so someone's been there forever, so they must be great.
But it doesn't always work out like that. It's because
you've been somewhere a long time. But when you have
when you're having consistent success and you're in the state
semi finals every year and you're winning three three A
metro league titles and uh, you go to state championship

(01:00:23):
games and you win some of those and uh, anytime
you're in the same breath as a sid out and
down down in some water, you know and is going
to surpass that soon. I mean, it's it's really an
incredible testament to what he's been able to build and
just the consistency they've had there.

Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
Appreciate you, John, I know you've got a day job,
and go back, get back to for the news tribute,
John Manly, to come a news should be And where
can we find your work? Yeah? The News Tribune dot com.

Speaker 7 (01:00:47):
I'm still on ex Twitter unfortunately, and Manly underscore T
and T and uh, but yeah, the News Tribune dot
com or TikTok Instagram. You can find us all over
the place. He's a mazn he does all the social
media does stand ups. Will be doing it from the
field after this game tonight. John Manley, the Washington State
Sports Writer of the Year nominee for twenty twenty four,
joining us here from Husky Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Thank you, Johns. We'll take a break when we come back.
The second half of the three A State Championship presented
by the wia Geza the Seattle Seahawks. It is fourteen
to seven o a on Sports Radio nine to fifty
kJ R a m halftime at the wia GEZA three
A State Championship game forredented by the Seattle Seahawks. Also

(01:01:30):
brought to you by the US Army, Go Army, B Navy.
They just won the American Association Championship tonight thirty five
seven OU Tulane. Another Factor fiction win for everyone trying
to take over the whole thing and win it for
the season for the station and nowty three from three
KJRFM a'll three a championship game. Also brought to you
by Trust and Will Sound Transit Men Dick's Drive in Restaurants.

(01:01:52):
We're sending the Crack research staff here to find out
if this is in fact. Craig Hiamoto is working on
this for us. It's the first time Bellvu's been behind
this season, that's possible. I mean, their closest game has
been what twenty seven points, and then last week they
rallied or excuse me, last week they pulled away from
Roosevelt to win late. But now they're down fourteen to seven.

(01:02:14):
They've had one long drive that was a forty four
yard touchdown or is passed this should say from to
Riker Moon down to the one yard line from Case
and Carter, and that's been in offensively. That's half their
yardage pretty much on that forty four yard run. You
heard John Manley Chris talk about how this is what
Bellevue does.

Speaker 4 (01:02:32):
They wear you down in the second half. Oh so far.
I don't see oday any sides of doing that.

Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
The problem is, though, they're actually playing from behind right,
and I don't know. I'll just say I don't think
they're accustomed to having that type of place down. They're
now going to have to. Yeah, they want to continue
to run the football, but you're also playing from behind.
So Ode has done a really good job of tackling
rowling to the ball carrier and making sure they're not
getting extra yards. Outside of their first touchdown that the
Wolverine scored. They've been pretty quiet. They were thinking about

(01:03:00):
going forward on fourth down, called a time out, ended
up punting. So they're gonna have to come out in
the second half and execute better. Dare I say, maybe
throw the football test the Irish downfield, see if they can.

Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Cover Cason Carter to the sophomore quarterbacks. Only pass of
the first pass of the first half, he completed forty
four yards to Ryker Moon on a post route from
right to left, and that was just a straight drop
back and throw that Oday wasn't ready for because why
would you be a team that runs four hundred yards
of rushing and a wing tea. But here they are
in a situation down fourteen to seven in the state

(01:03:33):
championship game, perhaps needing to throw. Although ode gets the
ball to start the second half, they deferred in their Troy.
They won the coin toss and they defer, so Bellvy
will have to play defense to start.

Speaker 4 (01:03:45):
The second half.

Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
The halftime stats really tell the story. Like I said,
twenty one rushes for fifty one total yards by Bellevue.
I mean this again, a team that averages over four
hundred yards rushing per game just fifty one in the
first half. Have one hundred and forty one tot of
the yards for Oday to just ninety five for Bellevue.

(01:04:07):
And the third down conversions four for six for Oday
and oh four for Bellevue. That's the game right there.
I mean really without the forty four yard pass to
Riker Moon. Yeah, Bellevue has nothing offensively so far against
Odey's defensive front. Really been impressed so far. And Jeremiah
no New and Tavina no no New is his younger

(01:04:29):
brother in the middle of the Oday defense. We talked
about Sale. Really good player junior, and he's not getting hooked.
He's not letting lead blockers, fullbacks take him out of plays.
He's had a really good first half. Chase Case Barker
has been up hard.

Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Yeah, he has made a couple of big time stopped
where they needed him on a third down where it's
one on one, it's Moon and Case, and Case has
won that battle. I think the last two times they've
ran that stretch play or try to jet sweet motion
to get him outside, to get him up the field,
and Case has been ready. He's watched the film and
he's made sound tackles when the Irish need him to.

(01:05:04):
Case Barker playing his last high school game as a senior.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
He's one hundred and fifty six pounds and you're right,
he's taken on two hundred pound Riker Moon a couple
times in the open field.

Speaker 6 (01:05:12):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
Really good first half from him, says so O. Pick
the signee with Montana this week and play for the
Grizzlies in college football. One of two Ode players to
sign this week. He had a really good first half
in tackling as well. And when you're running so often,
you don't have the past responsibilities and you can come
up a lot harder in the secondary and oday's really
taking advantage of that. And those corners often are unblocked,

(01:05:36):
so if you can make tackles in the open field,
you're gonna get a lot of them because.

Speaker 4 (01:05:39):
You're often unblocked outside.

Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
We'll see how much that it plays in the second half, because, yeah, Chris,
I don't see Bellevue all of a sudden becoming the
air Coriel Chargers of Dan Foutz in nineteen eighties just
because they're down fourteen to seven.

Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
They have a tall task ahead of them. As you
mentioned oday, We'll get the football first, and how the
wolver Wins play on defense will really say at the
tone for the second half. I imagine the Irish are going
to play a little bit of how they want to,
which is running the football, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Speaker 4 (01:06:07):
If they maybe try to get the ball downfield.

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
Maybe they send a really deep blow that says, hey,
we're trying to blow this thing open and show that
we are the better team today. And yeah, this should
be a really fun second half going between O Day
and the Bellevue wolver Raines. Let's see who's gonna get
the state title for the three A Championship?

Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Is this the point I bring up at turno Day?
Gradually don't have to be holding that down so well.
I've tried, you know, I've tried. I've tried to give
and I can't get the word out of my mouth.

Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
I've been trying to just be honest about both teams
and not show the fighting Irish pride.

Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
But nonetheless, this has been a really good game.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
I've seen him down on the sideline. He was like
Maya mc cheese. He knew everybody they're going up to Hey,
I played you in Madden last night. I mean that
cats everybody on the Old Day's satellite, coaches, players, trainers,
every buddy man.

Speaker 4 (01:07:00):
Yeah that's Sam. The bus driver was saying hi to you.
That's the fam down there. Man.

Speaker 3 (01:07:04):
It's an opportunity to call this game. It's been a blast.
So let's see what the Irish can do in this
second half. I know Bellevue was looking for an opportunity
to claw back into the game and make this a
really a crazy finish.

Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
There are teams are on the field for the second half.

Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
Sage Silopick is back deep for Oday, to retoot this
kickoff A day's going to go right to left here
in the third quarter into the Montlake Boulevard side of
Husky Stadium. Bellevue kicking off in their dark blue all
dark blues trimmed in gold with the Michigan Wolverines like helmets,

(01:07:40):
very familiar with Bellevue High School lids fourteen seven. Let's
see how this plays out for the three A state
championship at Husky Stadium.

Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
Oh, the wind blew it over? He said, it wasn't windy, Greg,
what's going on?

Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
Man? It isn't actually false alarm. May you might want
to get a refund on that team because there is
no win. A next spectacular night for December in Seattle. Seriously,
fifty degrees, no win, no rain Tomorrow night might not
be so lucky. You're supposed to rain all day tomorrow

(01:08:11):
for the three games tomorrow, including the four A title.
Here on nine to fifty am with Mike Betton, they'll
have Camas and Sumner. The kickoff goes away from Solopik,
who lets it go out into the left side of
the end zone for a touchback, and that means a
first and ten at the twenty yard line for Oday
leading fourteen to seven. As we've begun in the third
quarter of the three A State title game.

Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Here we go second half, running the football, controlling the
clock and trying to deliver one more blow to the
wolver Raine to Ceefoda.

Speaker 4 (01:08:40):
Can take a two possession lead here in the second half.

Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
And that I'm pretty sure they haven't been all season
down by two.

Speaker 4 (01:08:48):
I would bet my life savings on that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Greg number fifty eight, John O'Connor in the game on
the defensive line to start the second half, the senior
for Bellevue. He's in on the tackle on first down
after a gain of four. That was the fullback Malik
Dawson Carmelo Madden, the freshman outside linebacker.

Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
That's about his fifth or sixth tackle of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
I think he's leading the Wolverine and tackles. He has
a nose for the football and when he gets there,
he's bringing the ball carrier down.

Speaker 2 (01:09:22):
I see Mason Hill.

Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
Going out to the right side to guy Ben.

Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
Carow aj Morton now on the defense one on one
left side on Ben Carro, but they're gonna run again.
It goes up the middle and that's the fullback Madden
and he doesn't get much again. He stumbled on that
stringfield actually the tailback, not the fullback, and it brings

(01:09:47):
up third down and a long five O'Day at its
own twenty five on the first drive of the second half,
leading fourteen to seven. Johnny O'Connor, the senior I mentioned
on the field at defensive tackle on the stop third
and five. Oh day, they're an I formation again. They
got two wide receivers to the right and a tight
end on the left, Hutt and Levertt the quarterback. He's

(01:10:11):
gonna play action and pass and roll to his right
on a waggle for book throws and it passes complete
for a first down. That's Dayton Abaga, the wide receiver
senior gets out. Hey a first down at their own
thirty six yard line. What a play call him? Actually,
what a great catch by him that was just thrown

(01:10:31):
on the endside. We're only can catch it secured it,
got his feet in and was able to move the
chain for the Irish a huge first down to keep
this clock rolling and give the offense and who set
of downs gain of eleven on third and five as
a Day continues to convert on third down, there five
is seven on the game now and they're in splitbacks
this time receivers to the right and the handoff is

(01:10:52):
inside to Stringfield. Stringfield gets maybe a yard and not
much trying.

Speaker 4 (01:10:57):
To go right side.

Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
Brady Trevit is the cornerback up hard from his left
cornerback spot to make the tackle.

Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
He gotta be a monster to want to get in
there and make a tackle like that. That's where the
big boys are. And he did not shy away there. Again,
when you now have a threat.

Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
To throw like that, it makes the street safety but
a lot more aggressive than a normal free safety can be. Oh,
he's a corner. Excuse me, a corner, but saying the
defensive backs really coming up part against the run. Second
and nine I formation for oday, and there's a crossbuck
play goes to stringfield and he's in the middle of
the open field past the Husky logo. He's beating everybody
in the second there and he's gonna score a touchdown

(01:11:37):
sixty three yards and oday as a two score lead.

Speaker 4 (01:11:41):
That was a hat on a hat.

Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
We saw the lane from here Greg that week, you
could you could run through there. That was I fat
was a great play call by the Irish and what
more can you say?

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Let's give credit the offensive line there at Jillian Thomas,
Goodson the left tackle, Griffin Mattson the left guard, Jonah
Martin the center, Kingston Fotouali the right guard, and Jackson
Child's the right tackle, opening up a freeway size lane
for a sixty three yard touchdown for Stringfield and Odey
is up twenty to seven on number one Bellevue pending

(01:12:19):
this extra point and Owen Livingston makes it twenty one.
And you know who really sprung it? The pulling guard
number seventy eight.

Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
He gets out in front and he just moves, moves
a corner out of the way and that springs.

Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
So Julian Thomas is that Goodson? Yep, Julian Thomas.

Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
A senior captain.

Speaker 3 (01:12:42):
They pulled him across the field and I don't know
how many corners want to go up against a three
hundred pound lineman, but.

Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
That's like a win Obago pulling down if you don't
want any part of that.

Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
That was just a really fantastic call.

Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
There by the virus seventy hours two seventy on the
loose six three two seventy Jullian Thomas Goodson with the
key block on a sixty three yard touchdown for Eurea Springfield,
Euria Springfield twenty one seven Oday leads Bellvue. This crowd

(01:13:19):
probably about seven eight thousand people all in the lower
bowl a Husky Stadium, and the ones right below us
in white Oday are alloudest right now, Stringfield up now
fifty to fifteen carries for ninety nine yards and a touchdown,

(01:13:42):
sixty three of them on his last jount right up
the middle. But again credit Julian Thomas Goodson for the
tackle that's sprung in kick off to the goal line,
actually off there in the goal line for a touchback
into the end zone in Bellevue will take the ball
at its own twenty and absolutely unfamiliar terror down twenty
one to seven.

Speaker 4 (01:14:01):
Can they call their way into this one?

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
Because being down twenty one to seven with nine minutes
to go in the third quarter, it's a tall tack,
especially when you're a team that runs the football as
much as they do. If Oday is able to make
tackles and keep them in bounds and not.

Speaker 2 (01:14:14):
Allow explosives, this couldn't a lot quicker than they expected.

Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
Yeah, this is interesting.

Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
Now, are they really gonna break them old yet, probably
don't have to yet, but they must have known. They're
in a straight te now three in the backfield behind
the quarterback, and it's a fumble on the handoff, but
Bellevue has recovered and that averts disaster. That huge hit there,
Wow that Max Jones lost the ball coming through the
line and it bounded forward. And I believe that was

(01:14:41):
their top rated set. No, I was. I'm sorry the
right tackle, Andrew van Appledorn apple Dorn its final high
school game. The senior right tackle just saved the day
for Bellevue.

Speaker 4 (01:14:52):
And it looked like the ball here just lost the ball.
Yeah he did, no one I know who.

Speaker 3 (01:14:57):
Someone was holding his jersey, but there was no I
took on the football.

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Through all that again of fourteen and a first down
for Bellevue and to go again inside hand off with
again three in the backfield Max Jones and Jones gets
about three Scioli sial the defensive end of junior with
another tackle for Oday. They're coming up on nine minutes

(01:15:20):
un they're eight nine er nine now in the third quarter.
Bellevue ball down twenty one to seven to o Day
in the three A State championship at Husky Stadium. Now
they go unbalanced right. They moved Dmitri manning the big
deft tackle to the right side and they give the
ball to the right side. There it's Matt Reid Red

(01:15:41):
running wide and cutting up the hash market. He gets
all the way across midfield, dragging Oday fighting Irish with
him fifty one over State Solympic with the first hit
the thirteen yard game though in Bellevue is across midfield
down twenty one seven.

Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
That was a physical run. Was looking for contact. He
lowered his shoulder into Sage and carried him for a
few yards before being brought down by a few other
Irish that came over to clean him up.

Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
Kingston Thoughtouali was also went on the tackle there, but
none until a first down. Here's another handoff left side
read read running another first down or close to it
inside the forty yard line, running off left tackle on
a fly sweep type action. There, and they've run wide
on the last two plays after not getting much inside,
they're finding success on the edge. Sage Silopik again with

(01:16:28):
the tackle Silopik excuse me pronunciation. It's first and ten
bell U at the oda thirty nine. As you mentioned,
they're finding room outside. Okay, now, can your corners get
down and make tackles. We'll see unbalanced right again with
the right the left tackle over on the right side.

Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
And they run right behind Dmitri Manning.

Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
Why wouldn't you He's six three and three thirty five
and that's a gain of about four Again Matt Reid
with his third consecutive carry, this time not for first
down yardage. She carried for about twenty three yards in
his previous two. It's second and six now for Bellevue,
under eight minutes to play.

Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
Third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
Bellevue ball down twenty one seven of Oda in the
three A state title game. Again a crossbuck type action
to the left side, breaking moon with the fly sweep
type action out of the backfield to the left. He's
short of the line to gain by about three yards.

(01:17:31):
I think that was Cilli again on the tackle for Oday,
along with Jeremiah Nonu. Bellevue is zero for four on
third down and they need one here third and three
at the Oday thirty two down twenty one to seven,
mid third quarter, three in the backfield behind the quarterback,
it turns and gives up the middle and Max Jones
is stopped by Jeremiah Nonu who continues this fantastic game

(01:17:54):
the nose tackle with another stop, making it fourth and
three stop for no gain. That was impressive.

Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
As soon as the ball was snap, he is in
the backfield and he just wraps up the ball care
for a loss of two.

Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
They can't stop him, Chris. They're not getting anything inside
right now in the interior offensive line there. The yards
gained have been outside the tackles on this drive, and
it's fourth and three for Bellby. Let's see if they
go outside again on the run, that's their best bet.
I would bet money that they hit the outside. They
probably go off what number seventy six here, try to
get outside and get it. Go for your Oregon signee
six seven three thirty five. He's on the left side

(01:18:26):
here as a guard up. They give it up the
middle of the right so that's close. That's close. Did
not get it. He didn't get it, and he's short
of the thirty. Wow, and Ryker Moon was stopped there
going away from the strength of the formation, away from
Dmitri manning their Oregon signe left tackle, and it's a
turnover on downs.

Speaker 4 (01:18:46):
Bellevue denied down twenty one to seven.

Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
What an impressive stop by the Irish. They sniffed it out,
and what a play that's just tough to make. Joseph Fulabi,
the middle linebacker, blew up the play in studied film,
wrapped up move for no gain theoretically in that play,
that's a huge one there.

Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Joseph Fuabi has got offers from West Point, the Air
Force Academy, Navy, San Diego State, Nevada. Hats off to you, sir,
I know where you should go. O'dey takes over on
downs and a first down carry, loses two in the
Bellevue sideline, trying to get some energy going down twenty
one to seven. Jeremy Johnny O'Connor, the defensive tackle on

(01:19:26):
the stop for a loss of two a tackle for
loss for the senior.

Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
O'Connor, well, he just knife through No one, not one
offensive lineman touches him and he is able to make
a clean hit there a loss of two yards.

Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
But again, Chris, that whole drive for Bellevue was moving outside. Yeah,
games were outside the tackle, and then on the last
two plays they go inside and get stuff. I formation
for Oday, the fullback shifts to a left wing. It's
second down and twelve and the pitch goes to the
left of Stringfield. He just got a sixty three yard
run the last drive. This time he goes from maybe one.

(01:20:01):
Allis Sharp again. It's about ten tackles for Ali Sharp,
the middle linebacker, playing his final high school game. He's
also on the Bellevue High lacrosse team. He had forty
eight and a half tackles coming in to lead the team.
He's got probably close to ten tonight. It's third and
eleven for Oday. There's five minutes left in the third
quarter at Husky Stadium, the three A championship game O

(01:20:23):
day ball leading Bellevue twenty one seven split backs tight
end on the right, wide receivers on each side, and there's.

Speaker 4 (01:20:30):
A straight dropback for Leverett the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
He throws short over the middle. It's caught. Stringfield breaks
two tackles and runs down the left side on across midfield,
but he pushed out of bounds by aj Mooreton, the
cornerback for Bellevue, but not until he gains close. What
a game of about twenty nine yard just short of
thirty yards, and now there's a skirmish on the sidelines
after the tackle pushed the ball carrier into the ODE bench.

Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
Yeah, that was just a little bit of being upset.
You're down and things gets boiled over, got pushing into
the sideline to the ODAY bench and helmets come off,
So there might be might be a penalty here.

Speaker 4 (01:21:08):
We'll see what the rest decide.

Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
But Bryce Smith, the defensive back, has his helmet off
in enemy territory right among the ODAY sideline and Michael
Kanaip the Bellevue coaches come all the way to the
off the sideline to the other numbers in front of
the ODAY bench to talk to the official, and now
the head referee, Ryan Sorenson is talking to his umpire,

(01:21:30):
Graham Olmstead, to figure out how to adjudicate this. Lots
of pushing and shoving. It's getting physical out there. That man,
that was no man's land. But back to the run
that was. That was an incredible run.

Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
Stringfield made two dudes miss with that fake inside and
bringing it back outside.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Explosive play there, locked up very well. Four yard past
turned into a twenty nine yard game.

Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
Excuse me, Yeah, a great pass. I thought that was
probably a good run after the catch that he has
a great run after the catch made two defenders miss,
and it looks like maybe we've got a time out here.

Speaker 2 (01:22:05):
Either cooler heads are prevailing and they're trying to settle
it down, or Bellevue took a time out to.

Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
See a coach color with his hands off saying what's
going on here? He's waiting for a decision to be
made by the fishers that they hudted up.

Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
This was a third and eleven until Springfeld took a
four yard pass and went twenty nine yards out, running
about six Wolverines defenders. The ball went out of bounds
at about the forty yard line of Bellevue. Before all
the extracurriculars happened on the bell on the Oday sideline.
As I said Michael Kanaike, the coach went from the
Bellevue side one all the way across to the Oday

(01:22:40):
side on at the numbers, which, of course in the
college field are further wider than the NFL field. So
if you're right in front of the Odai bench, there
were two Bellevue players in about seventy.

Speaker 3 (01:22:50):
Yeah, they're outnumbered. You don't want to start any drama
on the opposite bench. You want to be close to
home in that.

Speaker 4 (01:22:56):
So Bryce Smith had his helmet off. I don't know
if it was ripped off.

Speaker 3 (01:22:59):
I don't know that way over the air, but I'll
say this, he didn't remove it himself.

Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
And that's I think some of what the officials are juk.
They got their cards out as if there's an unsportsman
like and here's a dead ball personal foul call it's
going against Oh that hurts Bellevue. But I think it's
gonna be offsetting because he's got his hand up to
call Ryan sorens in the head referee. Well he's calling
an ejection. Oh that hurts.

Speaker 3 (01:23:27):
That's one thing Bellevue can't afford right now to believe
that's it's number twelve and that would be yeah, that's
Bryce Bryce Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
There's safety.

Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
So that's that's the safety.

Speaker 2 (01:23:36):
Bryce Smith at his helmet off, the six to one
helmet off in the ODA sideline, and that he's the
one who's apparently been ejected.

Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
That's tough to I felt my advantage point, it looked like, okay,
it looks like maybe an Olday player might be getting
ejected too. I'm seeing referees talk to Monty, the head
coach for the fighting ours Monte Cola, and it appears
that there might be an ejection front on the Oday
side as well, So waiting to see how this all
plays out.

Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
The coach is.

Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
Looking for answers and he's confused, so we'll we'll see
what right, there's an objection.

Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
Doesn't have any microphone to the stadium, at least not
one operating, so we don't know what he who he ejected.
He didn't signal which side he ejected. He only signaled
to the bellevue side for a penalty. Oh and then
you saw the Then I saw the second signal for
a personal foul ejection without pointing to either side. I'm
not sure.

Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
Which so maybe it's an ODA player that has been ejected.
But we'll try to sort this out.

Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
Top Why Monti Kohler is on the field talking to
the official right now, we'll see for.

Speaker 3 (01:24:38):
Either team losing a losing a player at this point
is not what you would want, and that's not the
way you want to go out as a senior in
your state championship game.

Speaker 2 (01:24:45):
Obviously, in your final high school game.

Speaker 4 (01:24:54):
Bellevy is ready to go. We're waiting on the Irish
to see what's taking place.

Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
Here and Monte Cooler had a long discussion with the
hetero free Ryan Sorenson. There has been an ejection. We'll
try to find out for you which team had the
player ejected. There are game administrators on the field. This
is the second time tonight we've had this go on.
It happened earlier and in the first quarter and we
still don't know what happened there.

Speaker 4 (01:25:22):
When there was a little.

Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Okay, they're offsetting penalties he just signed. Ryan Sorenson said
the personal files were offsetting. He did signal an ejection
with the thumb, though we don't see who it has
been ejected. Game resumes with Odell a first down at
the forty two yard line of Bellevue, already leading twenty
one to seven with five minutes left in the third quarter.

(01:25:46):
Springfield is the tailback and eye formation and he gets
the ball on a crossbuck to the left side. Ryker
Moon comes flying in off the edge, misses the tackle,
but as the first man to hit him, and then
Dmitri Manning, the Oregon commit, makes the tackle. After a
game of three, ODA player was on his back injured.

(01:26:06):
That's owen Kowski. No, I'm sorry, that's that's Jonah Martin,
the senior center is down injured for Oday. We'll take
a break. Oday up twenty one to seven third quarter.

(01:26:27):
You're listening to the three A State Championship game from
Husky Stadium on Sports Trader nine fifty kJ R a
m or back in the three A State Championship Game
WIA sponsored by Giza. In the Seattle Seahawks, starting center
Jonah Martin walked off the field under his own power.
Backed up Cyrus Battigan is in. It's second down and

(01:26:49):
seven for Oday and split backs tight end on the
right wide receivers either side.

Speaker 4 (01:26:53):
Leverett, the quarterback gives it up to Stringfeld.

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Stringfeld off left guard, bowls his head down and gets
through two more would be tacklers and gets inside the
twenty five yard on a bullish run before Bryce Smith,
the guy who just had the altercation on the oda's sideline,
brings him down. But that's another first down for Oday,
and now Stringfield has nineteen carries for about one hundred
and thirteen yards. He had six once he got seven carries.

Speaker 4 (01:27:20):
For seventy two yards.

Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Here in the first half of the third quarter, Oday
first down, twenty five yard and already leading by fourteen
over Bellevue. Reaching late stage's third quarter, another crossbuck play
by Stringfeld and he's stacked up that time, all least
sharp again from his middle linebacker Sprout, scraping hard and
making the tackle after a game just two. But now Chris,

(01:27:43):
they're in scoring zone. Yeah this, if you're the Wolverines,
you have to hold him the three. You cannot allow.

Speaker 4 (01:27:49):
Even a field goal here makes it a three score.
It does, but it ain't seven.

Speaker 3 (01:27:52):
Greg And at this point, I know you don't want
to go up any points, but they are in range
to do some damage, so you better hope that three
is all they can get here.

Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
Second down, in eight Odey and I formation at the
twenty three yard line of Bellevue, Stringfield again gets the
handoff out of I formation as the tailback. He goes
across right tackle, stacked up again by Bryce Smith, the
free safety who seems to be playing with an extra
edge since that altercation on the sideline, always sharp helping
him out on the stop. It's third and four. They're

(01:28:27):
in the red zone. O Day is up twenty one
seven with two forty five left on a running clock in.

Speaker 4 (01:28:32):
The third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
In at field goal here man, that's a three score
game with just fourteen minutes left for an offense. It's
not designed to score quickly unless they're big running plays.
An I formation tight end on the right for Oday,
on third and four from the nineteen and a whistle
before the snap with a penalty of pre snap penalty.
On Oday, it's going to be Dayron Abaga the wide

(01:28:55):
receiver jumping right in front of the line. Judge false start.

Speaker 4 (01:28:59):
Perhaps maybe they're a throne the football.

Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
He got a little right. Yeah, you don't usually do
that if your run blocker is a wide receiver. That's true.
Chris good point.

Speaker 3 (01:29:06):
Well, that'll make this a very interesting play call here
as it's third and what about a long eight.

Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
And seven half nine. Yeah, it would be a forty
one yard field goal from here, So they could use
some yards here to get some points on this drive.

Speaker 4 (01:29:19):
Dare I say they probably should run to shoot and
keep that clock rolling.

Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
Don't want to. They're gonna run it here to get
yards for field goal range I formation again, Stringfeld the tailback,
Leverett the quarterback. No, they are going to pass, but
the screen pass the left side. Stringfeld got blockers in
front of him. He makes a cut inside of the right,
he's at the twenty, he's at the fifteen, and Stringfield
is going to score his second touchdown to the third quarter,

(01:29:43):
and Ode is going to take a twenty seven to
seven lead on Bellevue in the three A title game
touchdown Irish, that's a call right there where you just say,
we got this, let's run our plate and I was
executed really well. And then Stringfield having the ability field,
the ability to see that, Oh my gosh, I can
cut this back. That was a video game run by Stringfield,

(01:30:03):
yes side of the field, outside the numbers, planning his
left foot, cut all the way across the field through
the middlefield and scored a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (01:30:10):
At the other numbers.

Speaker 3 (01:30:11):
What a dominant performance. What a play call from the offense.
And now the Irish are looking to take a twenty
eight to seven lead over Bellevue.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
That state championship game. That's the eighteenth touchdown of the
season for eras Rice Springfield, the sophomore. The extra point
is good by Owen Livingston and that's twenty eight points
for Oday, that's seven for Bellevue. And this is the
most points the number one Bellevue Wolverines is allowed all season.
The previous was twenty seven against East Lake and they

(01:30:41):
won that game forty two to twenty seven. It's twenty
eight to seven, oh day, with one fifty four remaining
in the third quarter, and no one saw this coming.

Speaker 3 (01:30:51):
No dare I say I didn't, although I might have
had the fighting Irish at plus seven, but that's not
where we're here to discussed. Just an impressive school. Just
to showcase that drive again.

Speaker 4 (01:31:03):
They were able to do a little bit of everything,
running the football, controlling the clock, and then when they
wanted to, they went to a Hey, we're gonna drop
in and throw a little screen pass here and Stringfield
does the rest.

Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
An elusive guy that can show do it with power
as we saw with his running style, and then good hands,
good feet using his quurtis. That's a second pass he
caught this this half, and he's made a few guys missing,
was ended up scoring on that one.

Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
I gotta give it up. My son listening in Pullman
at Washington State University is loving you saying it I
his dad could have run through that hole for a
touchdown earlier the Springfield the Stringfield sixty three yard touchdown run.
The hole was there Greg that must have been that
must have been a big hole.

Speaker 4 (01:31:42):
Being this high up, you see everything a little differently.
Might I add.

Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
Kick off for a day again into the end zone
for a touchback. Oln Livingston's having a nice night with
his leg kicks that one through the end zone. And
it's twenty eight to seven O day and Man Bellevue
has attached now one fifty four left in the third quarter,
twelve minutes left in the fourth quarter, and that's how
far Oday is from winning the state three to a championship,

(01:32:09):
seeking its fifth state title.

Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
That happened won since twenty seventeen. So this is huge
for them if they can pull this one out.

Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
Bellevue seventy to ten under seventh year coach Michael Kneipe.
And there aren't many times, if any, in the last
seven years they've been down twenty eight to seven. They're
gonna pass on first down down the right side. In breaker,
Moon tied up as he tried to catch the pass
of the Odei sideline. The ball was out of bounds
and untatchable. Anyway, that's gonna be incomplete for a second down.

(01:32:41):
Great couty the second pass attempt of the night for
Bellevue and only the twenty seventh on the year. Great
coverage from Davion Sherlock six ' to two senior playing
deep safety and was just right there. Was able to
get his hands in there make a play. That's all
you can ask for. Second pass for Carter, It's probably
not going to be his last. The way this twenty
eight to seven Bellevue ball down twenty one one, third

(01:33:05):
quarter of Husky Stadium in the three title games. Wing
right and that's Moon. He's in motion to the left,
direct snap they go this time running back Bryce Smith.
That's the direct snap and he's lost the ball past
the twenty yard line. It's on the turf and Oday's
jumping around like they have the ball and they do
another turnover for Bellevue and bad just got worse for

(01:33:28):
the Wolverraines.

Speaker 3 (01:33:29):
Yeah, this is just it's it's falling apart for this
Wolverines team. They came out with such good energy in
the first half, getting a fumble converting with the touchdown.
But the Irish have responded and they have just pounced
on the Wolverines and have a commanding twenty eight to
seven lead and are looking to add yet another touchdown here.

(01:33:49):
Just a great play cub all the Wolverines, but Ode
sniffs it out and what a play by ceoly just
getting in there stripping the ball from the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
The Alleys had an absolute monster game and he just
forced another turnover in the twenty one yard lines. First
down for Oday, already up twenty eight to seven. Hand
off up the middle by the full back, gets nothing
but Chris. They take the ball out of Carson Carter
hand the quarterback, and they do a direct snap with
Bryce Smith, who's already been fired up because of the

(01:34:21):
altercation of the day. Like, if you're the quarterback, you'd
like to see yourself stay on the field when you're
down three touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (01:34:29):
Yeah, you just got to champ and lost the ball.
Got to take care of the football and give Garret
to the Irish. They want the ball back and they
were clawing at it and forced the fumble in a turnover.
So the Wolverines are in a desperation mode now with
just under a minute in the fourth third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
In a days and no hurry now to run. They
were pretty quick paced most of the night, but they're
gonna use a lot of the play clock now with
only a minute left in the third quarter and up
by twenty one second and ten. The single back now
is Stringfeld. Of the formation of the fullback to a wing.
Stringfeld has the ball behind the wings block and he
gets not much. Dmitri Manning again six seven, three thirty

(01:35:05):
six makes the tackle inside for Belle U. It's third
and eight, just inside the twenty. They don't they do
have to run a play here. I guess pretty close
final seconds of the third quarter. It was fourteen to
seven and a half and then four Stringfeld happened two touchdowns,

(01:35:31):
sixty three yards and then the screen passed. He took
twenty three yards to the house. He's got well over
one hundred yards rushing. He's got two touchdowns. He's got
Oday up twenty eight to seven in the Class three
A state championship, and we have had the final play
of the third quarter. Monty Caller is fifteen twelve minutes

(01:35:56):
away from ten the fifth state champ Chip and Odey
High School history. We'll take a break from Husky Stadium.
We're going to the fourth quarter. Oday's got a third
down inside its own excuse me, inside the Bellevue twenty
yard line. O Day twenty eight Bellevue seven back. Next
on sports Radier nine fifty kjrim, We're back at the wia.

Speaker 4 (01:36:22):
Geese State Championship, bought you by the Seattle Seahawks. The
US Army Go Army beat Navy.

Speaker 2 (01:36:27):
They just won the American League American Conference Champions of
Midnight trust and will sound transit Dick's drive in There
was an incomplete pass.

Speaker 4 (01:36:33):
They extended the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:36:35):
It wasn't the clock wasn't expired as the officials normally
or initially rolled. And now a field goal attempt of
twenty six yards for Odaize Owen Livingston, the senior near
the right hash. The kick is through the uprights good,
but there was a penalty flag that the gates to

(01:36:55):
play called it dead before the snap fall start. So'll
push oday back five. We also learned during the break
Sage Sillopic, this senior cornerback was ejected in that melee
on the sidelines that involved Bryce Smith of Bellevue in

(01:37:16):
the Odai bench. So Silopik has played his final high
school game and he's done forty one yard field goal
now after the false start penalty for Owen Livingston, who
had three in the field goals successfully in the state
semifinals last week, just to make it a thirty one
to seven game for Oday. The snap's good, the kick
is also good. Wow, that's impressive. Forty one yard field

(01:37:39):
goal by senior Owen Livingston has put Oday up thirty
one to seven in the three A state championship game.

Speaker 4 (01:37:48):
Five seconds into the third quarter. Has he signed anywhere
with that legue? My goodness, that was right down the middle.
What more could you ask for?

Speaker 2 (01:37:59):
Twenty four unanswered points by Oday since it was a
seven to seven game in the second quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:38:06):
The Oday defense has completely shut down. What Bellevy wanted
to do. Their best opportunity was the outside run, and
they wanted to be more physical and try to run
it up the inside and Oday has not allowed it.
And Jeremiah Nonu has done a phenomenal job as well
as so at the defensive end. Jeremiah Nonu, his brother,

(01:38:28):
Tavita Nou, David Schwartzel, the defensive line has won this
game for Oday. They're at least leading at thirty one
to seven. Three score game in high school football go
for two, of course, but that's a long way from now.
The way Odey has held Bellevue's offense down through the
first three quarters. Craig reminds me it's been thirty one answered,

(01:38:55):
unanswered points since Bellevue scored first after the early.

Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
Turnover by Oday. I that turnover in long pass, the
one forty four yard pass to Moon. Belvy's got nothing
right now.

Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
Yeah, as I mentioned, Oday has been five to ten
steps ahead. They have stopped any and everything they want
to do, and they have blown this game wide over.
I don't think anyone saw this for a three A
state championship.

Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
Kick off by Livingston, who just kicked the forty one
yard field We'll have give him a thirty one seventeen
lead o day and it goes through the end zone again, Man,
he does. There aren't a lot of high school kickers
who consistently kick it through the end zone.

Speaker 3 (01:39:34):
And it's a good kick. It's not a low line drive.
He gets some air under it, So yeah, he's a
phenomenal kicker. Owen Livingston one of many standouts tonight for Oday. Okay,
it's a mountain and air sized mountain for Bellevue to
climb here down thirty one seven eleven fifty four remaining

(01:39:55):
in the state championship game at Husky Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
They come out throwing. They've only thrown twice tonight. No,
they're gonna run inside and it's a good game. On
first down by Max Jones, the junior fullback eighteen hundred
yard ball carrier rusher before coming into the game this season,
Joseph Fuvi, senior middle linebacker on the stop for Ode.

(01:40:23):
It's second and two and Bellevue is in a hurry
down thirty one to seven, and again inside handoff goes
to Max Jones. He gets two about the line the
game before, he's stacked up and driven back and it
looks like it's gonna be third and a half yard
because sile Ciali wouldn't let him get the first down.

Speaker 4 (01:40:42):
Yeah, Odaya is just dominating in this matchup. Whatever the
Wolverines try to do, Odell is right there. I'm ready
for it.

Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
The thing about sially is he's lined up opposite Dmitri Manning,
the Oregon commit oh for five. On third down is
Bellevue and this is four down territory, down thirty one
to seven. Even in their own end. It goes inside
handoff to Ryker Moon. He's got the first down past
the thirty thirty five yard line. Oh they're one for
six now, so there you go. But you talk about
putting some junior, getting to put some tape on for

(01:41:11):
him in a state title game going against Dmitri Manning
six seven, three thirty six and the sixty four two five.
Siali has had a night. Yeah, he's been very impressive
and getting to the football. And another thing is he
has to miss tackles. No, he's getting in there and
bringing down the ball career. And that's what you would
ask if your linebacker first and ten and Bellvy is

(01:41:31):
gonna run it again with Moon and Moon is gonna
get close to the forty yard line that time JOSEPHIAVII,
the Mike linebacker made the tackle after a gain of five.
Odell'll take that gains of five o'clock running ten thirty left,
leading thirty one seven in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:41:51):
I think Belly is just trying to get in the
end zone him and see what they can do. Can
they get can they get a touchdown? And you'll take
it from there. Right, you get a score first.

Speaker 2 (01:42:00):
A wing on the right and they go counter and
pitch right. Bryce Smith nowhere to go. Bellevue's all over
that too. Rode is all over that too, and that's
gonna lose two.

Speaker 3 (01:42:12):
I'm not understanding that play call knowing that you're down,
but I mean, I guess you've got to catch the
defense off guard and a little pushing and shoving there.
But again, Odey has been ready for almost everything they've
thrown at. That's when you missdirection plays tonight. They have
been pretty direct the wing tea often with a lot
of that misdirection and deception. There hasn't been a lot
of that two and three fake handos before the fly.

Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
Sweep there and guess in the middle, Brig. Bryce Smith
loses two yards because King Alah would not allow break
of outside containment. Third and eight for Bellevue and now
it's going to be a direct snap to Bryce Smith.
He throws deep down the right sidelines and the pass
is cot What a catch by Reich and Moon at

(01:42:56):
the fifteen yard but I mean he laid out and
snapped the ball right off the turf. What a play
got at play by Riik and Moon fifty yards after
a forty four yard reception in the first half of
that one was much more majestic.

Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
What a catch by Ryk and Moon. Hope he's okay.

Speaker 3 (01:43:14):
Looks a little banged up as he walked to the
sideline after that play, but great effort. He's not giving up,
And just a great play to play this team in
scoring position with a chance to score.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
Touch on here Belleview's in the red zone down thirty
one to seven. The hand off left side after the
big fifty yard pass play, and that's a short game
by Max Jones. That last pass wasn't by car to
the sophomore quarterback. It was by Bryce Smith, the senior
running back, who took a direct snap, rolled to the right,

(01:43:45):
and threw deep down on a go route down the
right side for Riker Moon, who made a brilliant diving
catch reaching out in front of him. Might have gotten
the wind knocked out him and he landed straight on
his chest with the ball under him. It's second down,
six thirteen yard line of oday. That's an offside at
the snap on oday. I don't think they called it,

(01:44:06):
but it was. And here's a handoff outside left and
Bryce Smith is tied up. There is no flag. That
wasn't offside uncalled and it's now third down and six.
Hassan Thomas, senior will linebacker for a day on the stop.
We've got eight minutes fifteen seconds on a running clock.

(01:44:26):
Bellevue needs three of these see three eights to just
tie the game. They're down thirty one to seven. They
have the ball at the Oday thirteen third and six
under center quarterback hands gives it to right side and
that's Matthew Reed that gets to the ten, but no more.
He needed to get to the seven. Chase Barker would

(01:44:49):
not let him back. The senior cornerback making a the
tackle to make it fourth and three, and.

Speaker 3 (01:44:55):
Of course they're going for it here. Case has been
money on the outside. Case really good to night seven
forty left on a running clock.

Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
Bellevue ball at the ten yard line of Oday, down
thirty one to seven, with a fourth and three. They
got a wing right, two tight ends and they're gonna
run it up the middle. Riker moons off the sideline
after being shaken up, has got a first down at
the six yard line. Say Siali stopped him, but not

(01:45:24):
until he got the line to gain to the six.
Seven to thirteen left in the state championship game. Bellevue
knocking on the door, but they're down thirty one to seven.
They're at the six yard line, first and goal. The
long pass play again. The two drives they've had for
touchdowns were long set up by long pass plays. The

(01:45:44):
riker moon this one on this drive from Bryce Smith
to running back and an option to hit pass and
an inside hand out there in a touchdown for Bellevue's
number twenty one, Max Jones, the junior has his twenty
third touchdown of the season at six yards. It comes
was seven oh seven left in the three A state
title game. It's thirty one thirteen pending this two point

(01:46:06):
conversion from Bellevue down eighteen.

Speaker 4 (01:46:08):
Good drive by Bellevue.

Speaker 3 (01:46:10):
They hit on some really big explosive to Moon and
that a lot of them getting scoring position and now
looks like they're gonna go for two here, right, greg Or.

Speaker 2 (01:46:16):
Have to yeah, you need three eighths to tie. They
need the first aid here. They've got six et eight
and they move manning the big left tackle over on
the right side of going balance skin to the right.
They run right side and there's a cutback running a
nice cut by Max Jones for the two point conversion.

Speaker 4 (01:46:33):
Play was designed to the right.

Speaker 2 (01:46:34):
Jones cut hard to the left after one step into
the line and he gets two points to make it
thirty one fifteen O Day with seven oh seven left.
Gotta love the heart of high school athletes.

Speaker 4 (01:46:46):
H Yeah, they're not giving up.

Speaker 3 (01:46:48):
And you saw that with that deep pass play for
fifty yards to Moon set them up for scoring and
they handled their job and end up getting into the
end zone. And we'll see what O Day does they
two of the'clock here? Try to run the football? Do
they play agress that? They're probably been an onside kicker.
So let's see if Belle, you can recover this and
make this an interesting thing.

Speaker 2 (01:47:05):
Go on side here, you have to do. You want
a chance to win. But we got seven left. Would
you they're down sixteen, they have all three timeouts on
a defense that gives up ten points a game.

Speaker 4 (01:47:18):
Blow that out the window. This is the most points
they've given up all year. Would you go for an
onside here?

Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
It's such a low percentage, it really is. I don't
I think i'd kick it deep. You've got seven minutes
left and you hope you get a three and out.
You get the ball back with about five and a
half five minutes left, and hope you got something. This
is again not the way Bellevue plays football, no trying
to score points and bunches in a hurry.

Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
This is their biggest deficit all season, and they're being
tested right now. So it does appear that they're.

Speaker 2 (01:47:47):
Doing it on side, Chris. They're lined up that way.
They've got the kicker has got his shoulders angled to
the Bellevue sideline to the right, and that's what they're
gonna do. It appears Charlie Miller squibs it over the
first line. The ball's rolling free, oh, the thirty five
yard line, and it's loose. There's gonna be a penalty

(01:48:11):
flying in to try to dislodge the ball, and there's
gonna be a penalty on Bellevue for what looked like
a helmet. The helmet hit as the ODA player was
on the turf trying to corral the loose ball and
the squib kick and oday did we cover at the
thirty three yard line of oday, So that was a
hybrid that wasn't quite an on side and it wasn't
quite a deep kick. It's seven oh four remaining thirty

(01:48:34):
one fifteen O day leads and they just received the kickoff,
and now the officials will gather to discuss the penalty.
It looked like an unnecessarily head to head hit trying
to dislodge the ball once he was already in the ground.
Of course, in high school, once you're possessing the ball
on the ground, the place should be dead. And it

(01:48:56):
is fifteen yards marked off against Bellevue. So here are
the yard each they gained by swimming it over the
first line, just lost on that penalty. The balls near midfield.
First down for o Day leading thirty one to fifteen.

Speaker 4 (01:49:07):
Well, let's see if the Wolverines can get a three
and out and give the ball back to their offense.
Moon was able to make a play.

Speaker 3 (01:49:11):
Can they do it again with the defense on the
field and getting a stop here giving it back to
their Wolvermine offense to see if they can make this
an eight point game?

Speaker 4 (01:49:18):
Dare I say thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:49:20):
One to fifteen, Oh Day, They've got a first down
in seven minutes away from a state championship.

Speaker 4 (01:49:25):
Split backs. Leverett the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:49:27):
Under center, squatting low and now changing the play at
the line of scrimmage. Long count inside it run not
much maybe three. That was the fullback. Malik Dawson, the
senior captain Carmelo Madden. A fine night for the freshman

(01:49:49):
outside linebacker making another tackle. It's second down seven. The
clock continues to run, which is bad news for Bellevue.
Six forty left in running thirty one fifteen oh day
in the State three A championship game. Stringfield now up
to one hundred and twenty three yards rushing in fifty

(01:50:11):
three receiving the screen pass. The long run after the
screen pass for the touchdo one hundred and seventy six
total yard for spring Gield. He's got a pitch going right,
trying to get more, and he's got a few more
to the forty six of Bellevue, a gain of four.
Up to one hundred and eighty total yards for the
sophomore tailback Uriah Springfield. So, Chris, that's five hundred and

(01:50:34):
seventy combined yards in the last two weeks from Springfield.
He's had an incredible run and doing on the biggest
stage when his team needs him most, he's delivered. So yeah,
you've created that four hundred and seventy six. He had
three hundred and one last week. Yep. Now it's a
big third down for a day, third and four Midfield

(01:50:54):
just pass midfield. The Bellevue side of it, split backs
two wide receivers left. They're gonna play accident roll to
the left. The quarterback Levertt throws on the run. That
passes briefly caught and then dropped because of the hit
by cornerback for Bellevue, AJ Morton. What a hit. The
junior just made a play to save last hope for
Bellevue who that was catching a first down until Morton

(01:51:15):
put his shoulder into the chest of the big tight
end Xander Turner. That's his first target tonight. He signed
with Eastern Washington. His big senior tight end Xander Turner
did and he had a first down that might have
clinched the game except for AJ Morton's shoulder into his
chest to dislodge the ball. What a play.

Speaker 3 (01:51:33):
Xander thought he had a first and I just the
awareness wasn't there. You got to catch that and get
down because they were head hunting there.

Speaker 2 (01:51:40):
So now o'de punts. It's a high snap and Livingston
did a great job to catch it and punt it
in one motion of not getting it blocked. The hits
it the twenty and it is gonna take an O'Day
roll inside the ten, It's gonna be down to the
eight yard line, and that's where Bellvue will take over
their own eight. With five twenty four remaining in the
three A State time O Day thirty one Bellevue fifteen.

Speaker 4 (01:52:06):
Do we have drama here?

Speaker 2 (01:52:07):
They would be thirty one unanswered points for Oday and
it would take twenty four unanswered for Bellevue.

Speaker 4 (01:52:13):
Tough tie it.

Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
We've seen crazy stuff, oh day.

Speaker 4 (01:52:16):
How they got here was.

Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Crazy, that's right. A touchdown by ben Caro on basically
a jumpall hair Marry pass that had Powo ben Caro,
his NBA superstar brother saying he almost lost his voice
watching the game and screaming about his brother for the
three A State semifinal last week. To got oday.

Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
Here our wonder if warm Moon might lose his voice
if his son makes a big play here.

Speaker 2 (01:52:38):
Give it to Matt Reid on first down, running right
and he gets only two and they're gonna need a
lot more than that. Fawk is running down to five
minutes now, just over five minutes remaining. Bellevue ball down
sixteen on their own eleven twelve yard line, and now

(01:53:00):
they've taken the quarterback out of the game again, case
and Carter's on the sidelines and Max Jones going to
get a direct snap. Here we for out. Now they
moved excuse me, Carter wasn't back in the game. He'd
moved him back into formation and they shifted out of
the direct snap went to Cardo with the direct formation,
the direct snap, and the quarterback rolling to his left,
throwing short, trying to complete a pass that Jack Pigeon,

(01:53:24):
the senior wide out, and now it's third down and
he had him too, He did have him, threw it
behind him. Unfortunately, there's only a third pass attempt of
the game for the Bellevue quarterback. They had won by
the running back Bryce Smith fifty yards last drive to

(01:53:47):
Sky to breaker Moon that set up the touchdown. There's
a direct snap to Smith and he runs right and
he's going to be well short of the first down
by about four yards. And now Bellevue is pooty forced
go for it here, fourth and four on their own
fifteen four thirty left on a running clock.

Speaker 3 (01:54:14):
Uh oh, crowd noise napping up. This is a huge
play here. This pretty much the ballgame. Bellevue going for.

Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
A fourth and fourth their own fifteen down thirty one sixteen,
thirty one fifteen, with four thirty left in the game,
handoff inside and that's gonna be a first down for Bellevue.
Max Jones converts own twenty two yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:54:37):
Got to play called there. I thought they were for
sure pass it, but hey.

Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
We're gonna send Christopher Kidd downstairs for postgame interviews.

Speaker 4 (01:54:47):
On the field.

Speaker 2 (01:54:54):
First and ten, Bellvue, they got work to do with
four minutes left, Rex snap. Bryce Smith flags down as
he looked like he was trying to throw, and he
decides to run with seeing no one open. He gets
maybe three yards in a penalty in the backfield of Bellevue.
After the run of three on first and ten. We're
down to three point fifty left on a clock that's

(01:55:15):
unfriendly to Bellevue. Right now, down thirty one fifteen, it's
holding on Bellevue. It's gonna be first and twenty or
I say, half the distance of the goal line with
three point fifty remaining on a stop clock. In the
fourth quarter of the three A State championship game at
Husky Stadium. It is first and twenty at the ten

(01:55:49):
at the twelve, excuse me, and there's an outside run
that time by Riker Moon, and men was Oday all
over that again? Jeremiah no New? How many times have
we called his name? At nose tatle a nose tackle
making a tackle out by the numbers on wide receiver

(01:56:11):
Riker Moon for a loss of three. It's second down
twenty three. Bellevue is at its own nine, has to
get to it's thirty two to extend the drive, and
there's only three ten left on a running clock. They're
down thirty one to fifteen to Oday in the State
three A championship game. Boing left in motion is Riker

(01:56:34):
Moon from left to right, and they're gonna throw standing
from his own goal line. Carter throw's right side and
overshoots Riker Moon incomplete. He was well covered for what
it would have gained of about twelve, and instead he
overthrew him for I hope they get that help they

(01:56:56):
were seeking there. Third twenty two for Bellevue with two
point fifty three left on a stop clock. After the
incomplete pass, the fourth pass attempt of the night for
sophomore quarterback Cason Carter. He's completed only one of them.

(01:57:18):
He's going to have to complete a few more in
a hurry if Bellevue has any chance of rallying miraculously
with under three minutes to go down sixteen points on
their own ten yard line. Third, third and almost from
near beach. Back to pass from his own goal line,
Carter throws it up in the middle. Fifth is going
to be almost intercept. Could have been intercepted. Two O

(01:57:41):
Day defenders going for a jump ball at the forty
yard line of Bellevue, and it looked like one teammate
knocked it away from another. And it's fourth and long.

(01:58:01):
They had Leo Ben Carroll back in the secondary and
he was the one who almost intercepted the pass, and
he leaped and had it taken out of his mits
by his teammate. Owen Brukstern. Extra defensive backs on the
field for Oday. Obviously here it's fourth and twenty two
for Bellvue. This is last chance saloon for the Wolverines.

(01:58:25):
Throws back to pass, throws over the middle, passes intercepted.
O'Day's got the interception on another turnover. Nevlin Sherlock, the
sophomore defensive back, shooting his senior defensive back, captain of
the team co captain makes the interception at the forty

(01:58:46):
five yard line of Bellevue. And that's a wing tea
offense trying to throw for deep yardies to win a game.
They're not used to be trailing by two scores at
the end. That's tough sledding for the way Bellevue has
to play and does play. They have to throw the
ball and they have a quarterback who's not used to
doing it. He only threw twenty five passes in twelve games.

(01:59:09):
He threw four on that drive and the last one
was intercepted. Exactly high formation for a day. Who's two
thirty eight from a state championship up thirty one to

(01:59:29):
fifteen on Bellevue and they'll just give it up the
middle to stringfield. He gets maybe a yard and Odaate
doesn't mind that. Now Bellevue forced to take defensive timeouts.
Two thirty two left. It's O day thirty one, Bellevue
fifteen at the three A State championship game. We'll take

(01:59:50):
a break back in thirty seconds on Sports Trader nine
to fifty KJRIM Welcome back to Husky Stadium. There's two
thirty two remaining the Class three A State championship game.
Drop at you by the WIAA Geza and the Seattle Seahawks.

(02:00:11):
Odey High School is two thirty two away from a
state championship. They're fifth one. They only thirty one fifteen.
They have a second and nine after the defensive timeout
by Bellevue deb wo is two timeouts remaining and they
head off again to Springfield at I formation. He's in
the open field again. Twenty fifteen ten. Goodbye touchdown Oday
and the Irish are smiling. Uriah Stringfield has happened in

(02:00:49):
the second half. His third second half touchdown twenty five
carries one hundred and seventy one yards on the night
after three hundred in one yards last week. He's done
it rushing. He's done it with a screen pass and run.
He has been Oday's offense since a fourteen to seven

(02:01:11):
a half time score. It's thirty eight fifteen with Owen
Livingston adding the point after touchdown and Odey High School
the Fighting Iris are gonna win their fifth state championship
under forty year head coach Monte Cohler, who's now two
minutes twenty seconds away from tying the legend. Sid Otten

(02:01:35):
the ex Kolfak and Tomwater coach bes the States all
time winning his coach, Monte Cohler, closing in on career
win three ninety four. He became Oday's varsity football coach
at nineteen eighty five. Ronald Reagan was the president when
Monte Cohler took over at ODAY, and in his fortieth season,

(02:01:58):
his thirty first state champion and Chip State Tournament appearance.
They're gonna Oday's gonna win their first state title since
twenty seventeen. They're up thirty eight to fifteen on top
seeded Bellevue with two twenty three remaining a Husky Stadium,
Christopher Kidd has gone downstairs. He's gonna be in a

(02:02:18):
Rockets postgame scene with his former O Day brethren is
fellow graduates in current ODAY students and coaches, and we'll
get live interviews from the field from Christopher Kidd when
this one ends their trophy presentation as well. To twenty
three left Odey squibs a kickoff through the front line.

(02:02:39):
It's down at the forty one yard line by Bellevue.
One of the upman nom Ramsey Neff junior tight end,
jumping on the ball for Bellevue before it's quartered away
and they've got the ball out they're own forty one,
but they're done thirty eight to fifteen with two twenty
two left, and nobody saw this guy. We saw a

(02:03:01):
close game, we saw a run fast, but we didn't
see a three or four score route, especially perhaps by
the second seed Oday inside hand off Riker Moon trying
to drag defenders with him and Meyer the grit there
by Riker Moon three guys. He carried three more yards

(02:03:23):
to the forty seven yard line for a game of
seven and a eight flag as the Odey defenders look
like they got their hands in on the face mask
of Riker Moon. Two fifteen lefts clock has stopped. No
one has stopped eriah Springfield stringfield for Oday. One hundred

(02:03:44):
and seventy six yards, two rushing touchdowns at fifty forty
plus yard pass play on a screen pass. He's been
the man and offensively in the second half for Oday.
Fifteen yard penalty on the face mask on Oday puts
the ball at the thirty seven yard line of the
Irish Bellevue first and ten, two fifteen left down thirty

(02:04:09):
eight to fifteen. It's Matt Reid on his wide sweep
right side. He's pulled down on a horse collar type
tackle and we got another penalty flag on a tackle
and probably another personal foul on oday after a gain
of twelve by Reed Greed to five to ten, one

(02:04:34):
hundred and seventy pounds senior, coming into the game with
six touchdowns. He's also a basketball player in the Bellevue team,
playing his last high school football game today. And he
just got a first down twelve yard gain and tack
on the personal foul for the horse callar tackle pulling
him down from the back of his shoulders, and Bellevue's
got a first down at the Oday thirteen two oh
seven left Bellevue on a handoff wide left for Rikers

(02:04:59):
Moon to play blown dead before a legal snap, and
we're gonna have a motion penalty on the offense pushing
him back five and make it first in fifteen actually
two h two left. Now on a stop talk o daily,
it's thirty eight to fifteen. Bellevue has a first and
fifteen at the eighteen yard line. They're in a wing right,

(02:05:28):
two tight ends, and they give the battle Matt Reid
who runs into his own offensive lineman, Trevor Mack, the
right guard that stopped his progress. After a gain of
two and it's second down. Call it twelve, maybe thirteen
at the fifteen yard line. If to get just inside
to three for a first down, they need points and

(02:05:49):
they're not gonna get enoughing to hurry because there's one
thirty left on a running clock, down thirty eight to fifteen.
Bellevue is with the ball in the red zone and
another counterplay to Ryker Moon on the left side, and
that game's maybe one or two when the clock continues
to run, and coach Michael Kani sees what is obvious

(02:06:11):
that they're not going to win this game. Seventy to ten,
two state championships, trying to seek a third tonight and
they are going to be denied by the Oday. The
defensive front for ODAY controlled this game and then kept
it to where finally Springfield blew it open. In the
second half, there's a pitch right off the hands of Moon,
picks the ball up off the ground and then gets

(02:06:33):
pounded with a shoulder hit, hard hit there by Joseph Fuabi,
the fu of the middle linebacker for Oday. And now
Bellevue stopped the clock with their second time out. Fifty
seconds remain in the three A State championship game. Fifty

(02:06:53):
seconds remain before Oday will be celebrating on the Husky
Stadium field of their fifth state championship for coach Monte Kohler. Again,
stay tuned after the game. Christopher Kidd is down on
the field. He's gonna have trying to pick off interviews.

(02:07:14):
We'd like him to talk to Cioli Ciali, who has
had a tremendous game at defensive end. Jeremiah, No, no
new excuse me for oday nose tackle a brilliant game.
And of course you Riah Stringfield with more than two
hundred combined yards tonight the star of the game. Bellevue

(02:07:35):
had yielded just thirty nine points total in their previous
five games combined, including the three playoff games. To get here.
They've allowed thirty eight tonight, as many in one night
tonight to Oday as they allowed in five previous games,
including three state playoff games. It's fourth down, fifty seconds
left Bellevue at the thirteen yard line of Oday, and

(02:07:59):
they the handoff and they go try to roll out
the quarterback and he is drilled before he could even
get outside case. And Carter had no chance there to
even turn his shoulders and look up the field.

Speaker 4 (02:08:11):
To throw.

Speaker 2 (02:08:12):
The quarterback pounded before he could get outside by guess who, Siali, Siali.
Just a fantastic game tonight. The junior punctuates it with
a sack on fourth down of Case and Carter, the
sophomore quarterback for Bellevue, a turnover on downs, Another turnover

(02:08:36):
for Bellevue and Odea takes over and they're in celebration
mode on the Fighting Irish sideline. Up thirty eight to
fifteen forty four seconds remain in the state title game
and victory formation for the ode Fighting Irish. There's the snap,

(02:09:00):
there's the kneel down by Hutton Leverett, the junior quarterback.
The ODAY players on the field raising their arms to
the south sideline, to the student section and the fans
of Oday behind the Odey bench and the white claud
Oday Fighting Irish are gonna win their fifth state championship.

Speaker 4 (02:09:21):
Coach Monty Kohler in his fortieth season, three.

Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
Hundred and ninety fourth career win, tying ex Colfax and
Tomwater Legend sit out.

Speaker 4 (02:09:31):
That's the states all time winning as coach.

Speaker 2 (02:09:35):
They're running across the field to the sideline to celebrate,
hopping up and down the Gatorade bucket is out and
Monty Kohler is about to take a bath. Oday is
your State three A champions They beat previously unbeaten number
one seed Bellevue thirty eight fifteen at Husky Stadium. A

(02:09:56):
dominant performance by the defensive line of Oday High School
and the Metro League owns the state championship trophy for
twenty twenty four. Just a dominant performance tonight. As we
mentioned throughout the evening about the defensive line, a team
that averaged Bellevue, that averages four hundred plus yards rushing,

(02:10:20):
could never get the ground game going whenever they tried
to run inside the tackles, inside the guards in the
interior line. That's where Oday's silile Jeremiah Nonu, his brother,
Tavita Nou, David Schwartzel just went to work. And that's
how you win a state championship. Dominating the line of

(02:10:41):
scrimmage against a team that averaged four hundred yards rushing.
Great tradition in the high school state championships. Here to
sponsorby WYA and GIESA. Both teams both the entire rosters
lining up across the field and from sideline to sideline
shaking hands in this display of sportsmanship. And now as

(02:11:03):
they have got done shaking all of Bellevue's hands, the
Odei players run from the north sideline to the south
triumphantly to go celebrate with the Odei fans and parents
behind their bench. Stringfield, just fantastic tonight. You rise Springfield

(02:11:26):
offensively and defensively, totally shut down and controlled again, totally
shut down. The Bellevue rushing attack forced them to have
to throw late, which is absolutely not their forte. They
got a couple big plays to Riker Moon for their
only two touchdowns of fifty and a forty four yard
pass plays in the first and the fourth quarter, and
that was it. That was pretty much the only offense

(02:11:48):
that Bellevue generated. We'll take a break when we come back,
Christopher Kidd from the field. If you can withstand the
celebration down there on the w we'll join us and
get some post reaction from the field again.

Speaker 4 (02:12:01):
Your final score in the.

Speaker 2 (02:12:03):
Wia GEESA State Championship for Class three A, the o
Day Fighting Irish are the state champions. Thirty eight Bellevue fifteen.
Back after this on sports Tradio nine to fifty KJR
back at Husky Stadium, jubilation on the sidelines. Oh Day

(02:12:26):
High School is your state champion, will be down on
the field. Christopher Kidd has the start of the game
on offense your right of Springfield.

Speaker 8 (02:12:33):
All right, Greg, well you can see can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (02:12:35):
Greg? I can?

Speaker 8 (02:12:37):
Okay, so right now you can hear there taking a photo.
So if they get in there and get.

Speaker 9 (02:12:41):

Speaker 2 (02:12:43):
He'll come right back.

Speaker 8 (02:12:44):
So yeah, getting all the photos it, Yeah, he's gonna

Speaker 8 (02:12:51):
He was very excited to get on the station. He
was like, what are you.

Speaker 4 (02:12:54):
All going to have?

Speaker 10 (02:12:54):
Guys Like, look you here, young man, it ain't gonna
be no trickery. HiT's be off in himself, half fun
on and he was like, oh okay, you're a sot ancient.
But he's celebrating right now. But as soon as he
gets back, we'll get him on the air. What's that, coach,
But yeah, he is. He is pretty excited.

Speaker 2 (02:13:11):
So describe the scene down there, Chris, you're an No
Day graduate, decide to see down the this is.

Speaker 8 (02:13:17):
It feels like I wanted, man, this is awesome for
these guys. I am so happy for all of them.
I got to say, what's up with multiple coaches hugged
him and put him gratulations. Going to see the man
coach color that's what we call him. When I played
there for one year, called him the man. I'll congratulate
him as well. But these guys work their tails off
thirteen and zero and they won the biggest game, and

(02:13:37):
they are three eights twenty twenty four state champions. Will
congrats to all the young fellas out there. The seniors
are graduating. A salute all and the juniors and other
ones that have a few years less enjoyed this one,
but the grind continues. So congratulating to the class of
twenty twenty four. Oh day Fighting Irish Free a state champion.

Speaker 2 (02:13:58):
Money Cohler, the four year coach, triumphantly holding the trophy
above his head, the gold football, thrusting it toward the
fans behind the bench, and now he gives it to
his players who are posing for pictures, slapping each other
on the back. Chris chime in whenever you got Euriya's
springfield or anyone else down there celebrating. But Okay high

(02:14:21):
school down here, fifth state championship for Monti Cohler now
tying the great Siddouten for all time winning a high
school coach at three hundred and ninety four wins, and
it's a sea of celebration, white with gold pants on
the south sidelines of Husky Stadium. Your Riyas Eurayas Stringfield

(02:14:43):
one hundred and seventy yards rushing and two touchdowns on
twenty five carries, another sixty fifty three yards and a
touchdown on a screen pass. He was the star of
the game in the second half that blew up in
a fourteen to seven game and Ode beats Bellevue thirty
eight to fifteen. I might have to go in there, man.
They just celebrate.

Speaker 8 (02:15:03):
Hang on real quick, Greg, let me I see him.
I think I'm gonna have bought up my man. Manzi Kamier, congratulations,
So can we get a few working here on the

Speaker 7 (02:15:15):

Speaker 2 (02:15:17):
Right now, red bell, go ahead, sir, yellow money color.
Congratulations on your team, your accomplishment and what was the
line of scrimmage was obviously the difference tonight. What brought
that effort? What do you say about your defensive front?

Speaker 11 (02:15:35):
They just again, they brought the emotion they brought that.
You know, they really wanted to play hard and they did.

Speaker 5 (02:15:40):
We didn't.

Speaker 11 (02:15:40):
You know, we didn't played great last week. That sting
to prove today and obviously you know they got after
us last year's piece back going on to but yeah,
both sides, both officers and defense.

Speaker 2 (02:15:51):
Well you're right at Springfield, Springfield. I don't have to
tell you what he was to your team tonight. What
is it makes him special at tailback?

Speaker 11 (02:16:00):
Well, he just you know, it's hard to go down
and get great vision and makes me happen.

Speaker 6 (02:16:04):
So he's pretty.

Speaker 2 (02:16:04):
Funny coaching that. As you know, you've tied sid on
and for the all time winning his high school football
coach in the state of Washington with three hundred and
ninety fourth seconds in a career win. Congratulations on that.
What's that meaning you? I know it's the secondary.

Speaker 11 (02:16:19):
You know, this is all about the boys, just about
their effort and their will win. So it was fun tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:16:24):
Thank you, Chris.

Speaker 8 (02:16:27):
Yeah, there he is Monkey the man. Monty, I'm a
credit good go ahead, greg my.

Speaker 6 (02:16:46):
So what do you need?

Speaker 2 (02:16:48):

Speaker 4 (02:16:48):
So yeah, this morning? Then man to tell the man.

Speaker 8 (02:16:53):

Speaker 2 (02:17:33):
Do you think?

Speaker 6 (02:17:35):
Well?

Speaker 11 (02:17:36):
Was that?

Speaker 2 (02:17:37):
What do you think the difference was tonight beating Bellevue
by three scores?

Speaker 9 (02:17:41):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (02:17:42):
I really think it comes out to execution and you know,
just fighting to the end. Fight to the end is
what it is.

Speaker 2 (02:17:52):
When you cut the screen pass on the left sideline
and cut all the way across the field, did you
know you had a touchdown when you made the cut
or was that some the that developed as the play
went on?

Speaker 7 (02:18:02):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (02:18:03):
Absolutely, it's you know, it's engracing me. It's like as
soon as I touched the ball, all I'm looking for
a touchdown. So you know, I just I just happen
to have a couple of guys out there, which I'm
very proud of. They're blocking for me and it made
my job easy.

Speaker 2 (02:18:17):
Your sixty three yard touchdown run in the third quarter,
your captain left tackle Julian Thomas Goodson with the pulling block. Well,
describe that block and what you saw behind him on
that run.

Speaker 6 (02:18:29):
Oh, you know, obviously I love these guys, and guys
are my linemen. Man, I don't know what I would
do about them. They obviously I can't do what I
do without them, So big pumps to them. But you know,
I just I just trusted my blockers that they're going
to do their job and all I gotta do. I
got the easy part and just take it. Take it
to the house.

Speaker 4 (02:18:50):
You're right, stringfield joining us in the field after you.

Speaker 2 (02:18:52):
Odey won the three A state championship tonight with his
two hundred combined total yards. You're right. Your coach Money
Cohler all time winning his coach Washington, tied the record
for SIDOT in three hundred and ninety fourth career win.
What does coach Caler mean to you in the program.

Speaker 6 (02:19:08):
Oh, coach Coler means a lot to me. You know,
the second I came here, he brought me in. You know,
he made sure he made sure I got I got right.
And these are such a great coach. He keeps all
the guys in line, make sure that nobody's lacking off,
you know, in the locker room, making sure that everybody
everybody's staying right and not get into ahead of himsel
And Yeah, he's just a great guy.

Speaker 2 (02:19:28):

You got teammates and friends to celebrate with. Congratulations, sir,

Speaker 2 (02:20:15):
Last team to win it was to see if my

Speaker 11 (02:20:36):
It was one hundred percent of team effort.

Speaker 7 (02:20:38):
And they are a great team.

Speaker 11 (02:20:40):
One hundred percent. They're a great team, and it was

Do their homework.

Speaker 2 (02:20:53):

Speaker 2 (02:23:09):
Tonight, I think the difference office with you guys. You're
able to throw eight for eleven, you complete two touchdown passes,
the big screen pass to your buddy, your ry stringfield.
Did you know coming in that there were plays in
the passing Did you know coming in there were plays
in the passing game to we had tonight?

Speaker 11 (02:23:27):
Yeah sounds good.

Speaker 12 (02:23:28):
Oh yeah, you know coming into it. Coach color always
mixes up the game plan for us. You never know
what he's got going for us. And so being able
to have everything in our back passing, running with Riyah.
Everything was open tonight and it was awesome being able
to being able to come out and execute with the guys.

Speaker 2 (02:23:44):
What can you say about your RYA's stringfield when you
hand him the ball and let him watch him run, dude.

Speaker 12 (02:23:48):
Yeah, it's always he always does his best. He's always
pushing so hard on and off the field, and uh,
you know, he really deserves it. He's been an absolute
transferring in gaining gaining coach Colis everything.

Speaker 6 (02:24:00):
It's been awesome to see what he's been able to do.

Speaker 2 (02:24:04):
Hutting Leverett on the field, it's quarterback for a day
after they won their fifth state championship tonight beaten Bellevue
thirty eight to fifteen. Hutting, Sir, the screen passed the
string field when you threw it on third down, did
you know that was going to break for a big play?

Speaker 12 (02:24:17):
No, you know, it was a great play call by
coach Kohler. We hit the screen and Riyah he saw
all this space. He cut it all the way backside.
So that was awesome to experience that with him. I'm
proud of him, I'm proud of everybody out here.

Speaker 9 (02:24:30):
So it's been awesome.

Speaker 2 (02:24:32):
Can you describe for the listeners, those who have never
won a state championship what it is the feeling right
now that you've won a state title as a quarterback
of Oday High School on the Husky Stadium field.

Speaker 12 (02:24:42):
Yeah, it's been awesome. And he's just seeing everybody celebrate

Speaker 8 (02:25:13):

Speaker 2 (02:25:16):
Thank you, Chris. Christopher Kidd on the field amid the
celebration of the fifth state championship in the history of
Oday High School football, they win the three A state
title as the undefeated two seed, beating the undefeated number
one Bellevue Wolverines. The final score again thirty eight to
fifteen o' day behind two hundred twenty three total yards

(02:25:39):
from your Riiah Springfield, one hundred and seventy on the
ground with two touchdowns on twenty five carries, and then
the sophomore tailback had two more catches fifty three yards,
including the screen pass that broke the game open late
in the third quarter on third down. And yeah, as
you heard Leo Ben Carrol saying Ody can't throw the
ball their junior quarterback with just talk to Hutton Levertt

(02:26:01):
eight of eleven, one hundred and eighteen yards and two
touchdowns three hundred forty eight total yards for Oday, but
their defense won the game, limiting a team that was
averaging over four hundred yards rushing to just one sixty
eight on fifty carries, just three point one yard per carry.
That's why Bellevue High School was just two of eleven

(02:26:21):
on third down, while Odey was seven of eleven, including
that third down conversion that was a screen pass for
the touchdown to Stringfield thirty one unanswered points. After ban
Caaro fumbled away his first pass completion on a bubble
screen in the first quarter that set up a Bellevue lead.
Thirty seven unanswered points from from Oday after that point,

(02:26:43):
and they win going away thirty eight fifteen. Monte Color,
the forty year head coach at Oday, ties the legendary
Sid Otten, the former Colfax Tomwater coach, for most coaching
wins in Washington State high school history three hundred ninety
five and Odey Win's going away a surprise to some,

(02:27:04):
but not the people in White. The state championship is
going back on Capitol Hill for the fifth time ever,
in the first time since twenty seventeen, The Oday Fighting
Irish are your Class three A State champions thirty eight
to fifteen win over Bellevue here at Husky Stadium. Our
thanks to everyone who contributed this broadcast back at the station,

(02:27:24):
