Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, let's take a look at the starting lineups, beginning
with the Davis Pirates. The number one seed, number five
is Avery Brandt, a guard, eleven points, five rebounds in
last night's game. Number twelve is Ela Craig. They play
a bunch of guards. This is a quick, small Davis team.
Ella greg had six points last night Cheyenne Hall number thirteen.
(00:23):
She had eighteen five assists on seven of twelve, three
of three, a perfect three of three from behind the
arc last night. Number fifteen is Nevea Parish, also a guard,
nineteen points six for fifteen from the field, and number
thirty three is Issa Garcia seventeen points and seven rebounds
last night on seven of thirteen and three of five
(00:44):
from three point range. For the Sumner Spartans, Number three,
as kessen Noor, had five points six boards last night,
crashing the glass well in that victory. Kawait Borden number
four is guard fifteen points nine rebounds last night. To
support the leading scorer was number ten, Olivia Collins twenty
five points on nine of twenty, had three threes. Number
(01:07):
twelve Madison Hughes and randing Out rounding out the starting five,
but Parker Gould struggled from the field last night only
oh of six, but did pull down seven rebounds, and
we'll see the rebounds is gonna be huge.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Who controls the boards.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
He gets those easy opportunities because you talk about shooting
from outside, it's tough.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
In this dome.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
But if you can get misshots and put them back
up for easy opportunities, that can get you out to
a good start.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah, Each coach is kind of hoping for an unexpected player.
You bring in a guy or a lady off the
bench and it's the one that they have the biggest
game of the year. They have the biggest game of
the year when the lights of the brightest. That's the
kind of thing that can win you a state title.
A kid you weren't expecting to come out and score
nine points and make get four assists and boost the
(01:53):
rest of your team. Each coach is sort of looking
for that. Right as the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Tips here, balls in the air and it just can
roll by Davis wearing the Home Whites, going right to
left from our vantage point here court side at the
Tacoma Dome.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
With it on the wing.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Now Cheyenne hole, she'll kick it over top side Neveah Paris.
They call her Deats and she's got it with the
crossover dribble. Now finds hole again, wide open, three straight
away off the back eye.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
That's missed by Ela Craig. Offensive rebound.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
We just talked about that, but they couldn't put it in,
and then the defensive rebound pulled down by the Sumner
Spartan's wearing the road blacks.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Yeah, Sumner looked fine with them shooting that three there
and letting, but then they didn't scare the rebound.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
A tomp with it. Parker Gould.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Now a wing drive from the right side, no good,
but getting her own offensive rebound is Cavey.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Heave bordened the six foot guard because she's.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Big and strong and nice touch there to finish that
fucking little.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Good crossover move there by, Avery Brandt kicks it to
the corner fifteen footer and they're gonna give the jump
shot to Ela Craig.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
That's two possessions in a row. Coach.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, they looks like the scout on her is back off.
Let her shoot and go rebound.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Or missus missed by Davis coming the other way. It's
a two nothing Sumner advantage. Craig with it now, I'm
back up top to Parish. Parish hesitates attacks with the
right hand, tough shut off the glass and gets it
to go high degree of difficulty there.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Very tough finish going to her strong hand, finishing high
off the glass for the for the book.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Bucket there, Cavey He with it up top cave He Boorden.
Just a sophomore. It's six foot Olivia Collins shaking bake
move with the left hand, switches back over to the right,
a little short on that runner rebound. Taken down by
Davis two to two, six minutes left to go in
the first quarter. Glad he could join us here. In
(04:00):
four eight girls State championship game, spin moving a nice
one and a floater with the right hand and an
offensive foul. A good call there. It was a nice move,
Probably need to pull up instead of the floater, but
Cheyenne Hull called for the offensive foul.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
That was a great take by the Spartans there setting
up waiting for that charge. Took it right in the
chest and really a charge is a huge play. Personal foul,
team foul.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
And a turnover.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
One of the many sophomores that are playing big minutes
for the Davis Pirates. You got Easta Garcia starting as
a sophomore schyan haul avery brandt pass to the corner,
collected and the give and go and the goer did
not anticipate the pass and it's turned over. Here comes
(04:48):
Davis the other way attacking, floating it up and the
shot blocked by the health defender. But two shots coming
for the Davis Pirates. Number five, avery brand Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Davis looks very content with driving to the hoop and
finishing all lot of drives to the rim.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
And they're trying.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
They're trying to beat him inside and score inside, which
looks like, you know, a good way to do it
right now, but they.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Got to knock down these free throws.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Rand a double figure scoring game last night with eleven points.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Misses. The first one, second.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
One no good either, and originally it was a good
box out by Sumner, but somehow Davis was able to
get the offensive rebound and they'll reset.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Far side with it.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Issa Garcia shall float one up from the baseline fifteen
foot or no ball those out of bounds, that'll be
Sumner basketball help.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Defense is looking really good from Sumner right now, really
committing to the help and getting big and walling up
early and often.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Two to our score. Approaching the five minute mark.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Here in the first quarter, Olivia Collins, the leading scorer
last night, gives it off.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Now.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Took a vah Borden board on top of the circle
behind the back dribble, kicks it to a wide open trailer.
Three ball splash. That's Parker Gould, the six foot senior,
and it's five to two.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Sumner big shot right there for Sumner.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Come the other way behind the back dribble by Parish.
She gets stonewall. They give the three once again and try, try,
try again. As Ella Craigs, she missed her first two
jumpers badly. They gave her a third and she splashed
it home.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
That's gotta build some confidence for Craig to say, you're
gonna back off me. I'm gonna make these threes.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Five five our score. Good start to this one step
back three. That one was deep in the well before
it came rattling out. Here comes Davis the other way.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Pirate basketball in a tie game, a twenty four footer
splash it home.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
My goodness, Avery Brand from really long range ride in
rhythm caught it on the on the in fast break,
stepped right into it and knocked him down.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Great shot.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
That was a WNBA three right there, Collins with it
trying to get back to Borden now does on the
right wing, driving baseline, getting by the defender and poking
it out of bounds. Was Davis, but last touched by
the Pirates. So it'll be Sumner basketball.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Davis is really locked up off the ball, and that's
opening some driving lanes for Sumner here. If they're really
playing tight mind a man one and two pass.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Away Collins back into the post, shot goes up by
board and that one's no good. Here comes Davis running
the other way. Oh, brilliant pass there from mid court.
That was a beauty by schey Anne Hall inside to
the runner scoring as Isa Garcia.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
A great pass, but maybe an even better catch, catch
and put up as soon as she caught it.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
That was an amazing fast break, tough man to.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Man pressure defense thirty feet from the basket in a
five second violation. How about Garcia who made that shot
and then hustle's back and plays that kind of defense.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
About half court.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Her coach was yelling at her to get up and
defend and pressured her right into that turnover.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Approaching the three minute mark. Aaron a ten to five
Davis advantage. First quarter in the four A state title game.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
I won four.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
With it the baseline.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Deet's parish kicking it back three ball far side, splashing
home again and he'sa Garcia is feeling it right now.
She got a layup, then a steal or, then it
caused a turnover, then hit a three on the other end.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
It was a nice high one four set play there
that got swung to the opposite side and for a knockdown.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Three, sweeping his Cassanor who just checked into the ball.
Game now double teamed in the post, is Bordon kick
it back out?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Nor crossover dribble?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
There's Bordon again trying to get the ball to the
baseline cutter and Bordon. Every time she touches in the post,
they're swarming the double.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Yeah, the double ladder looks like they want to get
the ball out of her hands inside the three point line.
Outside they are content to guard her tightly, but inside
they're running an Another girl.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Ad her foul on Davis, so an inbounds pass coming
and Bordon has it inside back up top Now with
it Bordon driving, spinning and throwing it away. Great defense
there by deets parish for Davis, causing another turnover on
(09:31):
the wing with it crossover dribble, now kick to the
corner hall opposite wing, three ball by Craig. That one's short.
She's now one of four from overall, one of three
from three point range.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Yeah, that's uh that she's content with shooting that shot.
But if they're gonna leave her open all night, she's
got to shoot at a probably a thirty percent clip
to justify keep firing it up.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
And an off ball foul on Davis, bringing Sumner to
the basketball trailer by eight, now thirteen to five, one
fifty nine left from the first quarter. Cavay boardon handling
up top, trying to get something on her own, backing
in turning with the right hand. No good rebound Davis,
and they look too pushed just about every time on
(10:17):
a misshot three ball on the way in transition.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
That was no good.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
But a fabulous box out there by Cheyenne Hull, Paul
spinning driving baseline, good help side defense and she goes.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Right over the top. That was a great spin moving finish.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
This pace is not good for Summer. They're trying to
walk the ball up and their coaches employing them to
get up and play defense.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Boarding down near side Collins Parker Gould, Now I'll skip
pass five out offense right now for Sumner three on
the way too strong. That was by kessenor Davis running
the other way, throwing over the top. The fast breakout
tunity was there, but the passes a little long out
(11:02):
of bounce turnover on the Pirates.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
That's an acceptable mistake for a fast based team.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
You're going to have a couple of those in the game,
but you want to keep pushing because that is your advantage.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Spartan to bring it up now. They have been walking
it up every time. Looks like they want to keep
this game in the forties and fifties. Near Side Collins
with it around a screen, drives middle with the left
hand kicking it to the corner.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Good close out defense by Davis.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
They were flying around, but a little extra aggressive there
on the wing as the foul is going to be
called on Ella Craig on the arm.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Yeah, Summer's got to be really concerned with this fast
break that Davis is pushing. They may have to send
two people back when shots go up and gets better
defensive balance.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Or an inbound in front of the Davis bench and
head coach at Kiel White make Cook into the game
for the first time for Summer sits on the wing.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Now has it today?
Speaker 1 (12:10):
He boardoned brding around the screen, loses handle the basketball,
but it goes to a teammate in the corner. That's
Collins thirteen on the shot clock. Good pass inside to
finish with the left hand. Parker Gould, the six foot
forward senior solid finish Davis with the shot clock turned off.
(12:31):
We'll see if they want to wait, knowing them they don't,
and see spitting it up and firing a fifteen foot
turn around as Deed's parish. My goodness, they don't care
about the clock, but some are better. There's four seconds left.
They just barely got a pass mid court three ball
on the way from thirty feet off the front iron.
All Davis pirates thus far, and a lot in transition.
They lead the Sumner Spartans after one. Davis seventeen Sumner seven.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Second quarter, just beginning from the Tacoma Dome deck fan
Brandon Horseman, glad you could join us for the four
A Girls State championship game. Needs a little spark, and
they got one off the top on a great drive
designed I would imagine coach in the out of bounds
and got the layup, but too strong on the layup.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
And a loose ball foul on Sumner.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
My goodness, Sumner's played a lot of half court offense
and they haven't been running many sets, but that was
a good set they just ran.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
They just couldn't finish at the rim.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Davis will walk it up. One of the few times
they have. They have been pushing tempo this whole game.
Deets Paris with it crossover dribble from right to left now,
picks it up into traffic with.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
The passage, scooping it up with the left hand.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Davis is hitting everything right now Cheyenne Hall with just
a flip underhand and on the left side it's nineteen
have it and even when.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
They go slow, they go fast.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
They get a quick high ball screen reject, get to
the rim bucket.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Good to see.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Working on the outside.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Now bullet pass to a middle post spinner and that
one's no good by number ten Olivia Collins rebounded by Davis,
and another foul is going to go on.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Summer.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Yeah, Sumner's running a lot of four round one and
not getting a lot of good looks, a lot of
watching and standing on the offensive side. They might want
to run some offensive sets here to get them broken
down a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
What do you think coach Katie Hippo was telling Summer
in the time out there at the first quarter.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Probably get the ball inside, move without the ball and
quit what ball?
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Watch Davis with it?
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Double team quickly was number fifteen beats perish inside with it.
Now kick back out. This is Garcia. She'll spin it
up with the right hand. No good, a little strong.
A lot of white jersey's down there for the offensive
rebound and they pick it up. Davis has got it again,
brand new shot clock and then they turn it over
good wing deny there, Sumner's got it. Then throws it
(16:10):
away in transition to two on one and a cross
court ill advise pass is picked off. Three ball on
the way from the wing. That one's no good. Loose
ball goes out of bounds. It'll be Somener basketball.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Yeah, Sumner looked a little uncomfortable in there. In transition.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Some cross court paths through three or four people not
gonna work.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Approaching the six minute mark here in the first half
nineteen to seven, some are trying to keep it at
arms link here before getting out of hand, Paul poke
free far in the.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Sidelined by the Davis bench.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
It's corralled by Parker Gould now driving, attacking and a
lot of contact there, but no call. Ball gets knocked
out of bounds. That was Garcia on the block shot
of Olivia Collins. It'll go out and Davis seven to shoot.
Davis head coach a Quill White said that went off
a black that should be white ball, but to no avail.
(17:11):
Seven seconds on the shot clock getting it in now
Collins high ball screens. Collins got to put up a
tough one and does catch his rim, but all white
jerseys underneath for the rebound.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Davis has it coming back.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Sumner's got to be real careful right here. If Davis
gets a big bucket here, Summer's got to really think
about calling a time out, keeping this thing close and
changing up something.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
It's at twelve right now, Parish no passes, She's dribbled,
the whole possession goes in and a body contact underneath.
It was all ball up top, but the official said
that there was body by Cavey he Borden, So that
will send Davis to the free throw line for two.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
I like the call from the ref there. They they're
giving up straight long and drive. Sumner is and even
though the block was on top, there was definitely body
him as the shot went up.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
That was a one on five possession for Paris.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
He walked it up, never passed, got into the wing,
drove baseline and got fouled.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Yeah, Davis's go, go, go, go go.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
They're not slowing down for anybody.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Coming back into the game. Kessen Noor replaces Finley Nadu
twenty to seven. Now as the free throw makes at
thirteen and now fourteen, and there's your time out that
you talked about.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
We'll see if it's a full or a thirty.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
I think that's a great call from Sumner, you gotta
settle your kids down. Davis is getting up and running.
Your game plan isn't being executed. It's time to rego
over what you're supposed to do and make one or
two adjustments.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
So when you're looking at the Davis defense, now, what
are you seeing that Sumner might be able to exploit?
If anything, Davis is playing some pretty good defense.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Well, the walking it up.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
And the four round one isn't working right now. So
if you're Sumner, you gotta try something new. So even
if you don't think you know, running a detailed set
against them is not gonna work, I think you have
to try it because what you're currently doing isn't working.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
And explain the difference for people listening. You're talking about
set versus a four round.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Which is more of a motion.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Set is more of a read and react and you
know people inside and out and you're moving without the ball.
It's a lot of feel as opposed to a set
where you go here, you set the screen. We're getting
this shot specifically looks like a set player.
Speaker 11 (19:29):
Right here, you're.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Bringing the wings around two posts.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Now the high posts, Flash is clearing out Collins has
it bounce past inside ball loose and picked up my Davis.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
But a jump ball they did get the high low
there they gonna call three seconds, no.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Thirty three for them. Is doing a great job.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
She is a spark blood for Davis defensively and diving
on the ground.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Oh, they're gonna say, tie up. A loose ball goes
to Davis.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Sorry, and with it the other way, pushing tempo again
his Cheyenne Hall back to Avery Brandt with it now
back to Hall Hall, bounce pass inside, stolen away, nicely
done there by Bordon, Bordon to Collins, Collins one dribbling
a long three. Yes, Spartans needed that one, no question
(20:24):
about it. And they're up to double figures now with
ten points. It's twenty one ten forty two left to
go in the first half.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Spartan's in a little bit of a one two two
trap here, see if they can get something out of it.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Garcia back out thinking about a really long three.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Was Parish sitting in a three two zone.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Twelve on the shot clock.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Garcia gets the ball swung around, misses that three and
Spartans now got.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
A little bit of spark to see if they can
get back to back.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Buckets over the corner pump, banking the three and going
in and missing the layup opportunity. Kessa nor Good look
at a basket right there, couldn't get it.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
It's got to attempt to use their left hand there and
get a good angle on the basket.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Went up with the right.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Hand and the answer three ball by shy Anne Haul.
You give them an inch and they will take it.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
They'll they'll take it, and they'll take it quick. They
are not passing that extra pass. First shot, best shot.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Twenty four to ten, our score Davis and the fourteen
point lead inside four to play here in the first half.
It's the four A State championship game from the Tacoma Dome.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
If you're summoner, you need scores and stops.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
And there's a partially blocked shot on a ten foot
attempt by Parker Gold.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
We're coming the other way for Davis.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Garcia and a time out taken by Davis, a thirty
second time out. So what's Davis talking about here? They've
got momentum twenty four to ten. What was the cause
of that time out?
Speaker 3 (21:49):
You think, Yeah, coach is really gonna try to impress
on his girls that we cannot let off the gas.
We got to keep our foots on them so that
we can get to the thirty points thirty three points
by halftime.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
And continue to preach defense.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
He does not want to let sunder kind of get
back in this game in the last three minutes and
thirty seconds.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
Yeah, a little six to oh run by Sumner between
now and the end of the quarter, and they're feeling
really good going in half a six to oh run
by Davis and I'm not gonna say it's over, but
thirty to ten would.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Be really, really tough to come back from.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Yeah, I really like that time out from coach.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
So do you think he's designing something there or is
it just more of a settle down. Here's what we
need to do.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
From what I've seen from them today, is that just
keep doing what we're doing. Don't go away from what
we're doing.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
And a quick trigger three that's what they've been doing.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
And he knocked it down and a fist pump over
there for Mkiel White.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Big shot, quick pass, one pass in wide open, fired
up girls. The coach is pumping them with confidence and
they are looking really good.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Right, twenty seven to ten three answer in and out.
That was a good look there by Kessen Or couldn't
get it to go.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Davis is doing a really good job of early attack kickout.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Sumner's missing the attack part.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Here's Parrish hesitation move, flipping up and get it to go.
Everything's going down, all the rules going in for Davis,
but they're creating all the rules.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
They're being aggressive on offense.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Yeah, they're definitely earning it right now. And it's funny
in the game of basketball. When you do the right things,
the right things certain start to happen.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Set play here, Borden has it high screen, popping out Collins,
but Bordon stays with it and a bumping foul causes
Bordon to go to the deck.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Garcia is doing a really good job for Davis off
the ball, doing a great job on Collins and really
just staying in her hip pocket. One of those things
where if she gets water, you're getting water, and she's
going with her everywhere and making it really tough on her.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
That was the first team foul for.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
Davis steal, and they got to steal a game.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
They have pitched as close to a perfect game as
you're gonna pitch here in this first half, leading twenty
nine to ten.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Yeah, they are getting it done on both ends for sure.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Parish clearing out. They want to get a post up
for Cheyenne holl Chyenne's there, but instead Paris will drive in,
get a flip shot.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
That one's no good.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Offensive rebound though they're out working three ball hole, second opportunity,
no good, and another offensive board, a third opportunity for Davis.
That one's no good. Will they get another board? No,
this time it goes down to Sumner triple team. Gotta
get it out of there, and you got numbers.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
If you run.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
And a foul at mid court as pushing tempo, there
was boarding that I mean that could have been an
early knockout blow if you got a third opportunity jump
shot for a basket man.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
They sure were working hard for it, and they had
a couple, you know, a couple of easy looks at
it and couldn't knock it right in.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
But they are sure working.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Even that foul was a little ticki tag and they
are working hard and transition.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Madison hughes back into the game for some nursery replaces
may coca up top of this gold out of the wing.
Kaveh Borden. Bordon goes around the screen to her left,
flips one up too strong and too far to the
right off nothing but glass, rebounded by Davis and looks
(25:23):
like Davis is going to be content to walk it
up for once. They've been pushing Temple ball games.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Davis knows that Bordon is a really good attacker for them,
and they are doing a great job of health defense
on her.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Jeet's paris with it with ten on the shot clock,
Garcia driving in left handed shot That one's no good.
Snatch down rebound, nicely done there by Parker Gould. Summer
needs a bucket, a stop in a bucket? Did he
just get something good into the locker room. We're at
the one minute mark here in the second quarter. They're
down twenty nine to ten, driving baseline, flipping it up
(26:00):
and scoring.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Nicely done by cave He Bordon. They needed that one.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
What a great finish.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
That was a nice take, twenty second differential game and shot,
So a two for one opportunity for the Spartans. They
got the first opportunity. See if they can get the
stop in the bucket to the other end. Garcia has
it crossover drivel left the right kick to the corner,
three and away back ey An no good. Twenty six
(26:28):
seconds left. Here come the Spartans. If you choose to
push here and just get your last best shot.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
The best shot they can get. The best shot here
doesn't have to be the last. Looks like they'll settle
for that now.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
Bordon has it. With ten seconds on the game clock,
one on one clears the right side of the floor
out good defense though by Parish. Bordon gets buyer though,
and flips it up and in so with one second
left to go, and now the horn goes off, boy summoner.
Their best minute of the half was the last minute
(27:00):
of the half. They got four of their fourteen points.
And at least you can go into halftime now and say, okay,
we're settled, we can now play.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
I thought Davis until that last minute for them did
a great job in held defense. They were taking somebody
who was guarding somebody in the opposite corner and planting
them in the paints. And I think Sumner did a
good job of making substitutions where they had to guard
that person. Now and that's opening up the drives for Borden.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
We'll take a time out We'll get you our first
half stats and be ready for the second half of
action in less than ten minutes from now Davis leading
Sumner and the girls four A state basketball championship game
twenty nine to fourteen at halftime from the Tacomadome. We're

I can't believe we have to make this commercial. It's ridiculous.
You'll think it's ridiculous too. Listen to this.
Speaker 9 (28:30):
This commercial is about, well, it's about parents being rude
at high school athletic events.
Speaker 8 (28:37):
Ridiculous, right, it gets worse.
Speaker 9 (28:39):
Studies show more than seventy five percent of new high
school officials are quitting because of bad adult behavior.
Speaker 12 (28:49):
So now there's a shortage of refs here in Washington.
Speaker 13 (28:52):
In almost all sports no officials means no more games?
Speaker 8 (28:57):
Is that what you want for us? Come on, pair,
It's time to grow up. Cheer for your team, be
proud of your children.
Speaker 14 (29:04):
But stop being so ridiculous and don't make us run
another commercial, because we will.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Well the backpack fan Brandon Horseman with you from the
Old Wood Shed the Tacoma Dome, All Davis Pirates. In
the first half, they lead Sumner twenty nine to fourteen,
although Sumner did score the last four points. So what
are you talking about if you're the Sumner head coach
in the locker room down down fifteen, knowing though that
you did at least get some momentum at the end
(29:46):
of that first half.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Yeah, if I'm on that coaching staff, I'm talking to
my girls about having action before the attack. So early
attacks have been their thing. In late attacks, but it's
a lot of isolation basketball four round one five out
to where there's a lot of standing and.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Watching the girl with the ball.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
And if I'm them, I'm telling them, Hey, let's run something,
even if it's simple to get some drives and some
kicks and some reverses before we settle for one on
one basketball.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Only three players have scored for Sumner and only three players.
Only four players have taken shots for Sumner. You've got
Kobehi Borden with six points on three of nine from
the field, five points for Parker Gould on two of three,
and Olivia Collins.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
She's the one that really needs to get going. She's
one of seven.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
She had twenty five points last night on nine of twenty.
So that's that's definitely a place that they probably need
to go more to.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
A couple of things that stand down for me are
the two assists, So that speaks to the you know,
the stagnant basketball.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
And zero free throw shot.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
So they need to get in there and not just
settle for jumping off of one foot and scoring without
getting fouled. But they would serve themselves in a game
where you're down to get to the free throw line
the time stopped, make a couple buckets when no time's
coming off the clock, and then get back and defend.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
And they're getting hammered on the glass as well. Twenty
to eleven in favor of Davis and for the Pirates,
real balance scoring for them, and they have perished with
eight points on three of five. How about Shyenne Hall,
she has been great three of three from the field,
seven points, six rebounds to assist first. He's been the
player of the game so far for Davis.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Yeah, I got an unsung hero for Davis as well
with Easta Garcia. I think her defense and off the ball,
off the ball defense and then her playmaking and finding
the open girls on the offensive side. She has sort
of been the one right now who is really standing
out to me with making that extra effort, that extra
play kind of what we talked about before the game,
(31:51):
that one girl who is going to do a little
bit more than she's done all year.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
And a nice job by Page Gastling off the bench.
She's got three points and fours in just a nine
minutes of action, So a nice job buy her. We're
gonna take quick time out about five minutes away from
getting the third quarter underway. We're at Tacoma Dome. This
is the four A girls State championship game. Davis lead
Summer twenty nine to fourteen. You're listening to the Geza

Second half just about ready to get underway here at
the Tacoma Dome. Dick Fane branded Horseman with you on
Sports Radio nine fifty KJR did Davis Pirates twenty nine,
Sumner Spartan's fourteen. But you noticed something about Sumner coming
out of the halftime locker and what you see.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
Yeah, they were in the locker room very long.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
They came out with five minutes to go, and but
they were all positive, you know, smiles on their face,
got got up a bunch of shots in the halftime
and looked looked really positive.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Let's see if that pays off for Sumner, if they
can get back into this game here in the third
quarter with it up top is cave He Bordon crossover,
dribble into traffic. Tough shot there, but maybe a little
bailout whistle there, would you see?
Speaker 4 (38:11):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
It was a tight one there that she did draw two,
which is much better than her playing one on one.
She drew a second defender, and anytime there's a second defender,
there's a higher chance of a foul.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Cavey Borden just a sophomore.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
The Davis coaches don't agree with me on that one. Yeah,
but uh, but that'll happen.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
This is a young Sumner team, my goodness. There is
only two seniors on the whole roster, Adrianna Copeland and
Parker Gould.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Rest of the team coming.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
Back speaks really well for the future for.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
Them, absolutely, all right, Davis brings it up now after
the free throws make it twenty nine to sixteen, and
an offensive foul coming the other way, a charge taken.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Who has that took it inside?
Speaker 1 (39:00):
That was number twenty five Parker Gold, one of those
seniors we talked about, takes the charge.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
So now you take a look at it's a six to.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Soho run dating back to the last minute of the
second quarter, and Sumner's got the basketball. They can cut
this potentially to a ten point game if they hit
a three.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Parker goool, very very intelligent right there, heard the Davis
coach yell clear and stayed in the paint to take
that charge because she knew drive down the middle was coming.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
With it is board and gets tied up and two
on zero going the other way after the steal and
an easy layup to break that six tozero run the
courtesy of Cheyenne Hall.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
East of Garcia dove on the floor and threw that
assist up.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
She is playing out of her mind coming the other
way and flipping up a tough one and drawing contact
and Davis doesn't like that one at all. That was
that was just throw it up and hope you get
a whistle. She threw it up behind her head. That
was number twelve, Madison Hughes. But she earns two free throws.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Madison Hughes is pretty on that one. I gotta agree
with her.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
She was straight up on that one and played good
d but uh, you know, the ref saw otherwise, and the.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
First free throw good rotation, knocking it down seven oh seven.
Left back to a fourteen point game. Here in the
third quarter, thirty one to seventeen, Davis.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
With the lead, a little seven to two run.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Trying to make it eight. Here is Hughes and she
does just a couple stops, a couple buckets.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
That's all you need.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
Pick it up full cord here summer.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Then they'll back it off and just play man to
man crossover drill by Parish into the lane, kick back
out Garcia, check that brand, brand has it inside now
whole spins with a left hand of beauty there, drop step, finish, spin,
move to the baseline.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Someone. Someone's got a big man coach on their staff.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
No question about that. Borden has it. Puts up two fingers,
I screen on the right side. Two on two game,
She'll put it up off the window and score. Nicely
done there, freeing up a whole side of the floor.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
For got to the second defender.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
That's the key for her so far in this game
is getting past her initial get to her second defender.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Brant the other way, and.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
She draws contact and that time the Sumner coach didn't
like it. But they're calling them any contact on shots
they're calling.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
Yeah, yeah, that.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
You'd be advantageous to drive to the hoop right now
the way the rests are calling the game. So it's
the first team that makes the adjustment that usually gets
figured out.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Brant flings the first one off the front iron. No good,
just a sophomore. We talk about the sophomores on the
Spartans team. Brant is a sophomore for the Pirates, as
is Cheyenne Hull Isa Garcia as well.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
So heck, these two teams might be meeting a year
from now tonight.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
Yeah, this is a the young team, young good players
for each team, so it definitely could happened.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
Thirty four to twenty. After that free throw, here comes
Sumner approaching the six minute mark. Bullet pass inside fifteen
foot jump shot is blocked and cleanly blocked. Here comes
Davis the other way, good pass over the top hole,
goes high to get it, but.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
It just goes off her fingertips.
Speaker 1 (42:19):
Turnover on Davis, and that's kind of that full court
fast break that we saw in the first quarter work
so well for Davis.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
They've slowed the tempo down a little bit since then.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
Yeah, those are another one of those acceptable turnovers because you're
really trying to push. You don't like any turnovers as
a coach, but those are the ones you understand.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Far Wing in front of her own bench is Collins.
She's been quiet, see if she can wake up. Drives
in no good offensive rebound though for Sumner, kick it
back out good three on the way, hits the rim
twice and doesn't go down snatch down by Davis.
Speaker 3 (42:53):
Sumner's doing a much better job of getting good getting
good looks, and they're getting rewarded with offensive rebounds.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
Here's all well set up into the wooden dome here.
That had some rain coming down on at three ball
there for Haul and it's thirty seven to twenty and.
Speaker 3 (43:10):
She's two for two from three. She's got to she
gotta get a heat check on the next possession.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
Bordon now Nor she'll drive in and score with the
right hand good drive with the left side and then
finishing with.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
The right hand.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
They ran a nice elevator screen for her coming up
through the middle. She didn't like the shot, but she
liked to drive there.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Up tops Parish inside five to play down the third
thirty seven to twenty two something.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Are still just hanging around.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
Yep, yep, that's all you want to do.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
Evans Woodway did in the last game.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
They just kind of hung around until the late stages
of the fourth.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
Quarter and then Rainer Beach put them away.
Speaker 4 (43:49):
You want to get it within ten by four one.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
On the shot clock.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
Gotta get it up hole does back iron know a
lot of white jerseys, but who gets the rebound? It's
a black jersey and it's Bordon coming the other way
with it, and on the sideline steps Davis. It was
a steal originally at it, but I don't think Davis
ever secured possession of it. So it'll just be sumnerball
far side on the sideline inbound at mid court. They
(44:14):
never secured possession before the foot was on the line.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
Small interaction there between the ref and the Davis coach.
Uh just trying to tell him to calm down a
little bit. Coach, listen to him on that one and
go into the rack and scoring. That is number ten
Olivia Collins. She only had one field goal in the
first half, stepped through moving of beauty and earning the
foul there on a nice move that was Deet's Parish,
(44:43):
and she'll go to the free throw line. Davis's not
slowing down. They are taking the first look every time down.
If they're not gonna make them, that will be a
good recipe for Sumner to get back in this game.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Yeah, they're perfectly comfortable shooting in the first ten seconds
of the shock lock yep.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
But I think for Davis, I think you got be
who you are. You can't try to do something you
don't normally do. You gotta keep pushing the pace.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Free throw goes down thirty eight to twenty four man.
Speaker 1 (45:12):
The second by Parish hits front iron and goes down.
Speaker 2 (45:19):
And a steal on.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
The inbounds three ball on the way that was short
and I'd have been an early dagger right there. Offensive
rebound though by Parish plits it up.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
No good. But she'll go to the free throw line.
Speaker 1 (45:30):
We saw Rainier Beach do that a couple of times
where just kind of.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
A sneaky beat. Steal the inbounds full court.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
Yeah, quick steal, trying to trying to lull them into
a sense of security, and then steal that inbound.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
Free throws up and good.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
And this is.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
Exactly how Rainier Beach kind of extended this game. Coaches
really got to think about using one of her four
timeouts here.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
Rainier Beach did it a couple hours ago in the
boys game. Davis doing right now, leading forty one to
twenty fours. The free throws go down, full court pressure
by Davis broken nicely. Here's Borden driving in step through
eurostep and finishes with the right hand in the paint.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Nicely done by Borden.
Speaker 4 (46:13):
Really nice finishing transition right there.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
Paris to the corner ball knocked away and out of
bounds by Collins.
Speaker 4 (46:20):
Nice deflection. Some are still working extremely hard.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
This is they just gotta slow them to have They
gotta find a way to slow down Davis.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
The biggest lead of the game for Davis was nineteen.
That was at twenty nine to ten, just prior to
a four to zer run that closed the first half
for Sumner. It's at fifteen right now. Davis Basketball Garcia
playing Cats with Parish up top ball fakes low. Now
(46:51):
goes Garcia inside hole from ten feet straight away with
the left hand. No good, rebounded by Summer. Gotta be
careful with that full pressure though, and they do break
it nicely. Borden has it guarded by hole tightly thirty
feet from the basket, right wing with it as Collins
now swinging back around on board and gets a step,
(47:12):
puts it up and one. No, but she'll go to
the free throw line for two. She did get a
step on Haull.
Speaker 3 (47:18):
Sumner's looking a lot more comfortable swinging the ball, making
them defense side to side instead of being stagnant. The
thunder Girls got to do a little bit better job
of finishing with their left hand on the left side
to try to get the and one as opposed to too well.
Speaker 1 (47:34):
And you'll see so many teams do a nice job
swinging side to side, but they don't attack before the
defense gets set. They just they go side to side.
The coach say, reverse the basketball. Reverse the basketball. Okay, coach,
we reverse the basketball.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
But we're just standing here with it. We're not doing
anything with it.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Yeah, they're uh, they are definitely attacking when the defense
is running out at them, and that's exactly what you want.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
Three throws up and in forty having a fourteen point game.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
Sumner. It's like a little zone here.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
It's got a little bit of a three to two.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
Davis playing catch outside, being very patient with it.
Speaker 4 (48:12):
There is one way to slow a team down. Slap
the zone on him.
Speaker 1 (48:17):
All gets poked free from Garcia, but back out to Hull.
Three ball on the way and Hole rattles that home boy.
Hole has hit a couple of huge threes in the
third quarter.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
Davis was not having any of that zone. They said,
we'll get it high post, We'll get a corner and
we'll and we'll knock down.
Speaker 1 (48:34):
With three picture perfect execution on how to beat the
three two three ball the other way.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
Not a lot of rotation on that one. That one's
no good.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
Rebounded by Hole coming the other side for Davis.
Speaker 3 (48:44):
Great rebound by Hole tipping into herself there and going
to get it.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
They can take their biggest lead of the game with
a bucket here and Davis head coach, wants to take
a time out of kil White says, I want to
talk to my team right now because this is a
huge moment for us. I feel like we can we
can deliver a backbreaker here on this possession with two
eleven left in the third.
Speaker 3 (49:05):
Great time out by coach White here trying to get
his girls the like you saying the backbreaker here. This
is a big, big part in the game, big possession.
He's been pulling the right strings all night. I got
confidence in him on this one.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
We got a big boys game coming up right after this.
Don't go anywhere. We're gonna be on the air. It's
till like ten thirty forty five tonight. Gonzaga Prep and
pew All up.
Speaker 2 (49:26):
Two teams. You've seen a lot. You know him very well, yep.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Unfortunately, pe All have ended my season the last two
years in a row, so I'm very very familiar with them.
Great coaching staff, great group of kids. And then Gonzaga Prep,
who's been the number one team really in the state
this year. They haven't lost to a team in the
state of Washington all year. So it's gonna be a
(49:50):
really fun, really good game.
Speaker 2 (49:52):
Tell me about Drew Jones from pew.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Out SPSL MVP. He's a kid who can score at
three different levels. He can hit the long range, shot.
He's his one and two dribble game is as high
level as I've seen at the high school game.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
And then he can get to the rim and has very,
very creative finishes.
Speaker 2 (50:11):
That's coming up right after this. Don't go anywhere.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
Peu allup and Gonzaga prep for the four to A
state championship. But we got a girls title to crown first,
and it's forty four to twenty seven. Sumner back into
that three to two zone here.
Speaker 3 (50:25):
Yeah, they're screening the top of it, which is smart,
and they're trying to get it to the corner, which
is the hardest part to guard in the three two zone.
Speaker 1 (50:32):
And haul airmails a cross court pass about two feet
over the head of the intended receiver Avery Brandt, so
turnover against the zone on Davis.
Speaker 4 (50:42):
Coach White said, that is not what I drew with.
Speaker 1 (50:49):
Borden has it driving baseline, double teamed in the corner,
trying to find an outlet, and does reverse pass for
three No good rebounded by Davis.
Speaker 2 (51:02):
Good. Look there, that was Chambers at three.
Speaker 1 (51:05):
Ball opportunity and couldn't knock it down. Check that Hughes
with the three ball couldn't knock it down.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
This zone is slowing them down. Girls play, I mean
boys and girls play different against the zone than they
do against man demand. This could be a really nice
tactical move from Sumner.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
Here's Paris driving in, drawing contact and scoring. So they
did a good job going sideline to sideline and then
attack in the middle of that zone with the dribble drive.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
Yep, Davis looks, they.
Speaker 3 (51:32):
Don't look rattled by the zone, but it is definitely
slowing them down. It's definitely making a different pace for them,
for sure.
Speaker 1 (51:39):
But at what point can't you play the zone anymore
because the den Davis would just pull it out and
take three seconds off the clock every possession up seventeen.
Speaker 3 (51:47):
Yeah, that's a good that's a good question. They have
to gauge these next three minutes. If it's not, if
you're not getting stops and scores in the next three minutes,
you got to pick up full and turn up, turn.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
Up the kessinor out of the game.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
Replaced by Parker Gould free throws rattle home forty six
twenty seven. That matches the biggest lead of the night
for the Davis Pirates.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
Yeah, they've they've been to the free throw line a
couple times here in the last few possessions, and they
are perfect.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
Davis looking for their first championship in program history.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
Gordon has it kick to the corner, three on the way,
splash it home.
Speaker 1 (52:28):
That was much needed by Parker gooled the six foot
senior from the left corner.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
A nice driving kick. Summer wants to see those falling.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
Garcia answers quickly.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
No, off the back iron rebound, Summer, this is exactly
what they needed. They ended the second quarter on a
little Runlet'll see if they can end the third quarter
on a similar run, driving in, drawing contact and the
call and the baskets. So it got up to nineteen,
now it's back to fourteen.
Speaker 2 (52:57):
Could be thirteen here with twenty four point seven left
in the third.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
A very high degree of difficulty on that shot. Davis
probably feels like that's a tough shot for her.
Speaker 4 (53:08):
But man, she made that. And let's see if she
knocks down this free throw.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
She goes she doesn't. How about this four point seven
second differential. They can get a stop in a bucket
potentially the other way.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
Man, that'd be big.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Now they're extending the zone out a little bit towards
half court. Now they'll drop back in Garcia right wing.
Davis should be content taking as much of this clock
as they can, leaving little time, but instead they shoot
with eight second slipt but offensive rebound put back no good.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
Ten seconds left. Who's got it?
Speaker 1 (53:42):
Davis does in the scrub that most personally blocked. Five
seconds left. Davis has it again in their foul. Wow,
a huge sequence there. If Sumner could have just gotten
the rebound, they would have had eight nine seconds to.
Speaker 3 (53:55):
Run the other way, relentless right there by Davis. So
was it three or four offense freebounds right there? None
of them were even hitting the at the rim, but
the girls were battling their tails off, and now they
get rewarded with a couple of free throws.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
So Paris is first.
Speaker 4 (54:13):
Is good? My goodness, it's hard to beat a team
that doesn't miss free throws.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
It's a backbreaker to all those offensive boards.
Speaker 4 (54:22):
The girl. The girls are playing very very hard right now.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
The second free throw is good. No, I spoke too soon.
It was deep in the well, but came out.
Speaker 1 (54:30):
Good defense by Davis, not allowing Somener to even get
a shot off. Davis with a fourteen point lead. At
the end of the third, we'll see if they can
hang on. If Sumner make a miracle, comeback here down
fourteen with eight to play.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
Back to the Tacomadome.
Speaker 1 (54:47):
After this, you're listening to Wya Gisa Credit Union Girls
for a championship game on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR.
Speaker 7 (54:55):
Did you know your skin is the largest organ of
your body? That's why you should shot with Old Spot
Superhydration body wash instead of plain old bar So love
your skin by superhydrating it with Vitamin B three and
glorious notes of vanilla and shit. Did you know that
my superhydrated skin is the second largest organ of my body?
The first is my heart? Old Spice men have skin too.
(55:18):
Old Spy Superhydration body Wash twenty four to seven, renewing
moisture with daily use.
Speaker 15 (55:27):
The nonprofit Puget Sound Senior Baseball League is back for
its thirty fifth season. Spring training is underway in Peoria
and here in the Puget Sound as well, beginning March third,
continuing throughout the Monk. Tryouts will be held every weekend.
There are teams for all ages and skill levels, including
those ballplayers over forty. If you're still living the dream,
then the Pugit Sound Senior Baseball League is your answer.
(55:47):
You can register and get all the tryout information at
PSSBL dot com. That's PSSBL dot com. Baseball is fun, right,
hy goes soft when you can play hardball.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Well. Davis pirates eight minutes away from a potential state championship,
but they gotta hold off a Sumner Spartans team that
has no quitting them. There's no question about that. They
have cut it from nineteen to fourteen. Three ball long
twenty three footer by Parish is no good and it's
rebounded by the Spartans.
Speaker 3 (56:24):
The zone is staying pretty effective for summer. They gotta
They're gonna have to see if that works for him.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
These next couple of minutes, back three Collins Borden tries
to get the offensive rebound.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
Can do it.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
Here comes Garcia on the way, pushing it up to
Hall one on one good move. Underneath these scores, Cheyenne
holl is tough and she's got She's ambidextrous as.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
Well, finishes well with both hands, and she had not
seen a quick shot that she doesn't like.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
Pull now with nineteen points in this one leading all scores,
attacking his board, getting by the defense and causing the foul.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
She's got that quick first step. Now she gets all
the way to the rim.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
That was a nice strong take.
Speaker 3 (57:03):
And now she's attacking the rim, not trying to score
without contact, but really really seeking contact and getting into
the free tow line.
Speaker 1 (57:10):
Bordon the only player for Sumner over five points. She
has an opportunity to get to eighteen here with two
free throws. She's six of twelve.
Speaker 4 (57:18):
Yeah, she is carrying them offensively right now.
Speaker 1 (57:22):
Olivia Collins had a great look earlier, couldn't knock it down.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
She's now one of eight.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
From two point range, one of excuse me, one of
seven from two point range, one of four from three
point range.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
Yeah, I think they're they're usually their one two punch,
and uh, she's got They got her out of the game.
Looks like she's out of the game right now and
she's in still. But yeah, she's got to turn it
on right here in the fourth quarter if they want
a chance.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Borden knocks down the second free throw fourteen point game,
forty nine to thirty five inside seven to play whole
walk it up. Spartan's still in that zone. How long
can they go to about six men's ish?
Speaker 3 (58:00):
Yeah, they got another possession or two to decide if
this is gonna work.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
So far, it's been all right.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Another jump shot by Parish, no good, good box out there.
That was an outstanding box out by Parker Gould and
a foul gonna go on Davis as Sumner pushed tempo
the other way.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
Neither team in foul trouble, however.
Speaker 3 (58:21):
Yeah, the zone is being very effective, but Davis is
not shooting their first shot anymore, and they are ticking
away on that clock and being very smart. Even though
their shots aren't going in. They are still pushing this
game out.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
Second team foul.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
But I will say that there's two players with four
for Davis. Parrish has four and Craig has four.
Speaker 4 (58:47):
That can be something to watch down the stretch.
Speaker 1 (58:49):
Here's Borden trying to go one on one again fifteen
on the shot clock. Drives in with the right hand,
spins back, kicks it to the corner, shot up off
the glass, no good, bounded by Collins and a tie
up and a jump ball keep it here with Sumner.
Good job by Collins getting two hands on that and
causing the jump ball.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
Gould might have got vouled on that take, but she's
got to do a better job of going towards the
rim if she wants that foul.
Speaker 1 (59:18):
Coming back into the game, Kessen noors will place Finley
Naydoo and an inbound underneath her own basket. Madison hughes
seven on the shot clock, six twelve on the game clock.
Big possession here for Sumner. We've got a we've got
(59:41):
a hamstring check over here by the official. He's stretching
out a little bit, kind of cramped.
Speaker 3 (59:46):
Up and got the inside scoop from an official I
know before this game, and he's saying, these are long
floors and it is a it is a grind, and
it is a battle to get up and down these
floors a little bit bigger than regulation, most regular high
school floors.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
Yeah, and unfortunately, I don't think the official is going
to be able to continue. He's tried to stretch it
out and now he's walking off the court. So we're
going to have a We've got a replacement official coming
in out of the crowd.
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
No, just kidding.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
Gotta be a tough gotta be a tough position. But
here at the state tournament. Every game's got a fourth
official sitting on the sideline watching the game, ready to go,
ready to jump in.
Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:00:29):
You just hope that he comes in and calls the
game exactly the way he's been seeing it. Yeah, and
stays consistent.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
I thought the officiating in the two games that I've
seen has been outstanding.
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
Yeah, you didn't notice it, and that's what you want.
You don't want them to be a part of it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
So we're set to play here.
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Underneath the basket, Spartan's inbounding down fourteen to seven on
the shot clock. Oh, and a nice play run for
a wide open jump shot. How'd they get so wide open?
Their Parker gool just nobody around her.
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Yeah, there was a switch there and the boat. The
switcher and the screener. State twelve point game.
Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
You feel like one more stop and one more basket
could really start making Davis think a little bit. There's
a trap in the corner twelve in the shot lock.
They get out of the trap. Now back to the
top of the key. Three on the way and a
dagger long thrown down by Avery Brand. There was nothing
going on on that possession for Davis.
Speaker 3 (01:01:28):
Davis has given some zero ability to get back in
this game.
Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
And now steal by Davis.
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Wow, what a turn of events here In the last
thirty seconds, avery Brand has it Garcia into the corner,
Ella Craig driving in, back to Garcia.
Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
Swinging around the outside against that zone, hold.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
For three, sleepsh it home, back to back freeze and
that Davis Pirates are five minutes away from hoisting that
gold ball.
Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
That was huge thirty seconds of basketball for Davis.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
You can't leave her open. She's been almost perfect the
whole game today, and she got a wide open look
on a swing shot in the corner. Nailed it ice
in her veins.
Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
Huge shot hole now at twenty two, and man, it
was just so close they got Just thirty seconds ago.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
It was a fourteen point game.
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
Trap in the corner, looked like there was gonna be
a turnover scramble fest.
Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
But you get the huge three up top and then
the three.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
In the corner. Now it's eighteen s easy. Was a
twelve point game, went to eighteen with the six to
zero run.
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
I was just about to say, if Sumner comes down
and scores on that possession, it'd be smart if coach
called the timeout rallied the troops yep and said we're
in striking distance. But the opposite happened. Six point run,
two big threes. Then coach had to call it time
out for a negative.
Speaker 1 (01:02:54):
Reason because I kind of feel like if Davis he
had the nineteen point lead, if it got cut to
single digits, I almost feel like tightness might come into play. Then.
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Yeah, that always does come into play State championship game.
You want the other team to be uncomfortable. Davis looks
far from that right now.
Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Boy, they relaxed on those threes.
Speaker 4 (01:03:14):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
Sumner now in.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Deep trouble inside five to play three from the corner.
A heartbreaker there for Sumner. That was Parker Gould throwing
it up. It was a good look, good rotation, hit
every part of the rim, rolled around and just spit
out big strong rebound there by Hall. The zone's over.
Now back to man with it as Garcia tightly guarded
(01:03:43):
up top. Madison Hughes is on her gives it off
the Hall the player of the game thus far, She's
got it with a left handed dribble, kick it to
the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
Three on the shot clock.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
Garcia jumps into two defenders and the Spartans habit on
the block shot even though the way three on.
Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
Two team foot chip shot.
Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
No good quick shot there by Summer, but it was
a good look coach.
Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
Even though Davis had a long possession and got a
shot blocked at the end, it was as the shot.
Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
Clock was expiring.
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
That's exactly what you want if you're a coach right
now in this circumstance.
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Oh, you'll take thirty seconds with the basketball and miss
a shot every time when you're up by eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
David Davis is a well coached, intelligent team and they
are taking only great shots late in the shot clock.
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Hold a step through move, flips it up with the
right hand, just strong rebounded by Summer three ball in.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
The way they need it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
That ball was touched, could have been Sumner basketball and
hustled by Sumner saving it out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
Probably didn't need to because I think that shot was blocked.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Yeah, it was definitely tipped on that one, but I
don't think the Sunner girls saw it. Gave a good
effort to try and save it, but to no avail.
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
So full court pressure now by Sumner with three forty
three left in an eighteen point.
Speaker 4 (01:04:56):
Game, sending two girls along and they.
Speaker 2 (01:05:02):
Get it into the outlet valve pressure release. Nicely done.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
Here comes Garcia out breaking the pressure and now circling
back around.
Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
They can take the rest of the twenty second shot clock.
Speaker 4 (01:05:14):
Coach sets spread it out, spread it out four corners.
Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
Twelve in the shot clock.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Dribble drive passing the middle, and it's stolen away, so
not even a shot goes up for Davis. Summon her
with it the other way, Bordon attacking, flipping it up,
and good boy, she does a nice job just getting
space and getting that little shot.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Up with the right hand.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
Really nice finisher inside.
Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Coming the other way is Davis. Garcia driving baseline to
help come, but she gets around the help. She beat
her player and then got around the help and flipped
it up from two feet away and scored eighteen point
lead for Davis.
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
You teach your kids when you double, you never want
to get beat through the middle. That's exactly what happens.
Stepped right through and finish inside.
Speaker 1 (01:06:01):
Gordon picks up her dribble, so Hull gets all over her,
has to give it up to Collins. Collins bounce past inside,
ball loose on the floor, tied up that's gonna be
Davis ball or do they get a timeout thirty second
time out? So Sumner saves themselves the turnover with the
thirty second time out. So now two thirty six left,
(01:06:23):
it's just gotta be about quick threes and pressing.
Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
Is that about all y got left?
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Yeah, you're gonna be preaching to your kids right here.
You want quick shots. It doesn't matter if it's two
or three. You want a quick, great shot, whether it's
a layup or a kickout three. You're not gonna really
work hard for a shot. You're just gonna take the
first open one, whatever that might be. And then you
have to fly around defensively, double everything and hope that
(01:06:48):
they turn the ball over.
Speaker 4 (01:06:50):
And you continue to get good, good looks.
Speaker 1 (01:06:53):
And Davis is don a nice job with both Ella
Craig and Deets perish in foul trouble for the entire
or fourth quarter, neither one of them picking up their
fifth disqualification foul in this quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
Yeah, they do a nice job of playing the right way.
A lot of hands up and out.
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
Oh, and a nice play there, just a feed inside
to Olivia Collins who was at the high post and
just flashed to the basket and got an easy bucket
on that underneath the basket inbounds.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
That's their third or fourth really well executed out of
bounds play on the summer side.
Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
Davis with it, Garcia crossover dribble now gives it off
the hall. The player of the game spins into double
team double traffic, or rather double team into traffic, and
an offensive foul is gonna go on Hole.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
Even though they could pick up the foul there, they're
shooting it with nine seconds on the clock, and you
know that's what you want. You want a long possession.
Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
Third foul on Hole and the third Davis foul of
the fourth quarter. Borden brings it up against the man
and man she'll drive in on Hole easy as you please,
knocks Hole over, no call and lays it up one
on zero underneath the basket and a quick foul. It's
(01:08:13):
we gotta do. It's a fourteen point game, one fifty
five left.
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Well, they are just full out clearing out for her
and giving her the right side of the floor. She's
very comfortable on that side. I think Davis might need
to make a little bit of an adjustment and jump
to help on her and make somebody else beat you.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
So quick foul on Sumner will give Garcia the ball
on the outlet, and that's only the first team foul.
So they got a foul frequently and quickly, and they
do as Hole goes in hard to the basket and
is foul and knocked to the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
No flagrant, They're gonna discuss it. You think it should
be a flagrant.
Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
I don't think so. It was a nice pressure release.
And I thought Sumner did a nice job.
Speaker 4 (01:08:54):
Oh man, that foul.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
I thought she did a nice job of making sure
she didn't score while going for the ball. And that's
what you're always looking for, are those two things. But
they saw it a little different. She did have a
hard fall, and that sometimes can make the revs get
together and look at it.
Speaker 4 (01:09:12):
A second time.
Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
All approaching this twenty five point mark tonight, she has
been absolutely incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
First free throw is no good. She'll get another one.
Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
It got to be hard to shoot to an empty
basket and a full Tacoma dome. Nobody's standing around you.
She does make the second one, fifty eight to forty.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Three, and that siteline behind him is much different than
you used to seeing all year in every high school gym,
so it does definitely take some getting used to.
Speaker 1 (01:09:50):
So Davis inbound after the flagrant. They got the one
free throw and they get it into hall.
Speaker 4 (01:09:57):
Send them a double and a foul.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
A double team and then a foul up top, and
that will send Davis to the free throw line in
the form of deeps Parish. No, we're still not in
the bonus yet, my mistake.
Speaker 4 (01:10:11):
A little frustration here from Sumner.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
Third team foul. Paul gets it back to Parish.
Speaker 1 (01:10:22):
Parish playing keep away near the timeline, retreating, now, attacking,
now retreating. Great job, well, Curly Neil going on right
now from Parish gives it up to Garcia.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
Sixteen on the shock clock. They can't foul.
Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
Anybody this textbook how you handle pressure, moving the ball
too well. And now they're not even trying to foul.
Not sure why one twenty left five in the shock clock.
Dagger three man, shine hole. She's up towards thirty now.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
In this game, beautiful shot. Not sure why they weren't
fouling there.
Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
Bordon has it and she is fouled by Home and
Borden will go to the throw a line. But my goodness,
Schyenne Hall, just a sophomore coach.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Just the possession before Sumner was trying to foul, look like.
And then they get the ball in and run, you know,
twenty four seconds off the shot clock and then give
up a wide open three.
Speaker 4 (01:11:15):
I'm not sure why they weren't trying to foul there.
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
Yeah, they were aggressively trying until they got curly nealed
to death and they were like, all right, we're not
gonna keep chasing you man.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
That was textbook on how to handle pressure. Retreat, dribble attack, retreat,
dribble attack, find the open girl. Sumner didn't know what
to do with that.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
And Borden hits the first and the second sixty one
forty five, and now Sumner is gonna wave the white
flag and clean clean the bench out, which is great.
So we were talking about this earlier with Steve in
the last game. Every player on the team getting a
chance to play in the state championship game.
Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
Very cool.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Yeah, it's the end coaches pulling them off, pulling them back,
not picking up full here Davis hasn't cleared their bench.
Speaker 4 (01:12:00):
Yeah, they said no, let the girls run. They deserve this.
Speaker 1 (01:12:05):
So Aria Meng is in for Sumner. I'm only neely
in for the first time. Finley Nadu has played. She's
back in here. He Rana Copeland is in as well,
and Audrey Chambers.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
Davis girls getting ready to check in.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
Garcia has it up top nine on the shot clock,
just playing catch little four corners offense, no fouls by Sumner.
Three seconds left. Got to get a shot up or
I guess they don't have to get a shot up.
They don't. They just hold on to it. They'll shoot
it up after the buzzer. But a shot clock violation
and now Davis will empty their bench if he gets
(01:12:43):
you caught up with the newcomers into this game. Number
twenty three, Ala Jones, number ten, Jada Hernandez, twenty one,
Brooklyn Gayton, Iona pars is in the game as well.
Four Davis and Tayo Wheeler also in the game.
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
It's gotta be a great feeling for that Davis bench
right now. The coaches and the girls included a lot
of smiles over there, a lot of cries, a lot
of happy faces realizing they just walked off the floor
and won their school of State championship.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
Absolutely three ball in the way, No good rebounded by Sumner.
But we've got any loose ball foul on the Spartan.
So fifteen seconds left Davis. No need to shoot, no
need to foul. They'll just you would think they'll just
take it in, but maybe they don't want to shoot.
They're gonna put up a shot from the corner. No
good rebounded by Spartans. Four seconds left. Sumner crosses the
(01:13:39):
timeline with three. With two and that is it, and
the Davis Pirates have won their first ever girls state
basketball championship.
Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
You're four a girl state.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Title winners, the Davis Pirates and congratulations to Yakama and
head coach at Quiel White.
Speaker 3 (01:13:59):
Great game, man, the excitement, look at the girl's excitement hugging.
That was a really fun game. Big performance by Hall.
I think she's got to be the MVP of this
of this game.
Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
She had a.
Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
Huge nights, inside out finishing with both hands, knocking shots
down at the hugest times of the game.
Speaker 4 (01:14:20):
But Davis played their style.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
They are a fast paced team offensively, and they are
a team that wants to get up and defend your
ninety feet and they executed their game to a team
and won a state title.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
I was really impressed. It Like if this was a
boxing match.
Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
Davis was the team that just came out with flurries
in the first round. They're like, we're ready for this
title match. Bang bang bang bang bang, Now come match us.
And before some are even new, they were down eight
and they're like, holy smokes.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
It's a tough position to be in, especially in this game.
As a coach, you're hoping for a close, grind out game, outs,
set plays, talking to your team, but when you're continually
playing catch up the whole game, it makes it really tough,
especially against the team that's on fire.
Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
Let's take a look at the statistics in this one,
and some very impressive offensive statistics from the Davis Pirates.
They shoot forty six percent or shooting forty four percent
from the game forty five percent in the second half.
Davis led by the twenty six points on ten of
thirteen for Cheyenne Hull and five of five.
Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
From three point range, doing it from everywhere on the floor.
Speaker 4 (01:15:34):
Coach Man, she hit.
Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
Not only was she five of five, but she hit
some big shots at the at big times from deep
as well, like she she had ice in her veins
to night didn't see a second where she wasn't fully engaged.
Really fun to see that performance.
Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
Played all thirty two minutes in this one. Had eight
rebounds as well. Avea Paris did a great job kind
of running the offense at the point along with Isa Garcia.
Paris three of nine, but nine of ten from the
free throw line. That's where her money was made tonight.
Just a good floor game, coach. Fifteen points, nine rebounds,
five assists.
Speaker 3 (01:16:10):
Yeah, both team shot the ball really well from the
free throw line in the second half. I think there
was only four free throw shot in the first half,
and then the second half, you know, Sumner went ten
for eleven and they went and then Davis went eleven
for sixteen and really iced the game. I thought up
the free throw line when there was early foulsand in
the half.
Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
Issa Garcia was seven points, hit one three, also had
a couple of assists. Avery Brandt was seven as well,
five rebounds for the Davis Pirates.
Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
Those are your leading.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Scorers for Sumner twenty four from Bordon on eight of
fourteen and really everything went around her. They didn't get
the type of game from Olivia Collins that she produced
last night, and it kind of hurt him, But I
don't know if it would have mattered. I mean, even
if Collins had, you know, fifteen to ten in this game,
Davis just appeared to be too much.
Speaker 3 (01:16:59):
Yeah, for them to have competed a little bit more
in that game. I think Collins and Gold would have
really had to make a bigger impact for him.
Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
But I thought Davis did a really nice job of.
Speaker 3 (01:17:11):
Saying, you know, we're gonna let one girl attack one
on one and see if she can beat us by herself.
And she had a really nice second half, but tonight
she just it just wasn't enough.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
Gold with ten points and two rebounds in the game.
Collins finished with seven points on three of fourteen shooting,
had the four rebounds. We're gonna take a time out
and hope to come back with some guests. We'll try
to get head coach at Kiel White as well as
the start of the game as well Cheyenne Hull.
Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
We'll be back right after this.
Speaker 1 (01:17:39):

Sports are still being played for the right reasons. They're
still as entertaining as they are character building. You just
have to know where to find it, and you only
have to look as far as your local Washington high school.

This message presented by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and
the Washington State Secondary Athletic Administrators Association. School sports are
as American as apple pie, and going to a game
or meet is a chance to see the stars of
tomorrow shine today. But as anybody who's ever attended a
high school sporting event in Washington knows, you can't have
(01:21:44):
the stars without the stripes. High schools are currently looking
for new officials in almost every sport. Who looks good
in stripes. Anybody looking for a way to stay connected
to a sport they love. If you like the idea
of giving back to your community while learning a few
extra bucks, chances are you'd look good in stripes too.
(01:22:05):
We want to hear from you. We need to hear
from you. No officials means no games. No stripes means
no stars and what kind of America would that be?
Washington needs more high school officials. Go to high school

Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
You're four A state girls basketball champions with a sixty
one forty five victory over Sumner and uh, man, these are.
Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
Some popular kids and a popular coach.
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
Right now, we're gonna get to get a couple of
players in the coach here, but they're being sworn by
the media on the floor right now. They need to
cut nets down. But uh, I mean just what, just
what a great feeling we're talking to the break. You know,
both of us are coaches, like, man, it'd be nice
to cut down the net one day.
Speaker 3 (01:23:29):
Man, this is a cool This is such a cool
thing for these kids. And yeah, they're a little busy
right now. I think coach is getting interviewed by about
four people. And uh, same thing with the with the
players as well. That everyone's got a mic in their face.
Half of them were climbing up a ladder, cutting down,
cutting down the nets and uh that's something they're going
to charish.
Speaker 4 (01:23:48):
For the rest of their life.
Speaker 1 (01:23:53):
And a you know, an opportunity for these two teams.
We talked about it before to uh to meet again.
Hope we got somebody coming on right now, Page Glassling
joining us.
Speaker 2 (01:24:10):
Put on the headset there.
Speaker 1 (01:24:13):
Congratulations State champion does How does that feel?
Speaker 22 (01:24:16):
It's so awesome, It's really Honestly, we've been working hard
all year. Uh, this has been our dream since last year.
Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
Uh.
Speaker 22 (01:24:26):
And I really think that all of us work super
well together and we deserve this.
Speaker 4 (01:24:32):
Yeah, congratulations. What was uh?
Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
What was the scheme coming in? What did coach tell
you before the game? What did he say at halftime?
What was sort of you guys's plan? And how do
you think you guys executed it?
Speaker 22 (01:24:44):
Honestly, I think that we just needed to really try
our hardest to shut down their main scores, really kind
of focus on defense.
Speaker 4 (01:24:53):
Yep.
Speaker 22 (01:24:53):
Uh, and I think that we did really well at
doing that. Our coach is super proud of us. Everybody's
super proud of each other. Yeah, we're super excited.
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Yeah, tell us about this sophomore class.
Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
I mean you and and Kobe Johnson, Issa and obviously
Cheyenne Avery Brand. I mean, have you guys been playing
together forever? Because that is a heck of a class
at one high school.
Speaker 22 (01:25:16):
Honestly, our bond is just super well on and off
the court, and I think that that really contributes to
our playing and our chemistry. We've been playing together for
a while few years since some of them since they
were little kids. But no, I really think that that
helps us play better on the court.
Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:25:38):
I know you're probably in the moment thinking about it
and enjoying it and all that stuff. But how quickly
are you going to get together with this returning group
of girls and say, hey, we can get back here
next year. We can get back to the same game
next year.
Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 22 (01:25:50):
Yeah, hopefully if we keep working towards it, hopefully we
can get to the same spot next year.
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
We'll talk about last week's game. They got you last week,
but it was a seating game. So so what went
into that game?
Speaker 1 (01:26:02):
Was their disappointment after that game and did it carry
over it all to this game.
Speaker 22 (01:26:06):
Honestly, I think that just kind of lit a fire
under us, and we kind of were like, Okay, well
they got us that time. But I really think that,
uh or like we all really think that we can
beat them, We can get them this time, and so yeah,
we kind of came into this like we just need
to go we need to be aggressive, like give it everything.
This is the last game of the season. Uh So, yeah, honestly,
(01:26:29):
we really that just let a fire under us.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Well, go party with your with your teammates, all right,
congratulations Glavett's page. Gasling coach is gonna go cut down
the net and then we're gonna talk to him when
we come back. This is the WIAA Geeza Credit Union
State Basketball Championship on Sports Tritao on nine to fifty kjy'all,
