Speaker 1 (00:00):
Clap for the album.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
It was awesome, right Whirlwind officially out on Friday.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Go but let's do let's.

Speaker 3 (00:05):
Like standing ovation style and we're gonna clap. Okay, we're
clapping for Laney Wilson. It's a great album.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Laney Wilson.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Hey, now, do me a favor, Do me a favor.
Turn around and clap for Laney Wilson for real, for real,
for real.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
I'm just kidding. I got y'all, I got y'all. Hey,
y'all were like, and I don't have my phone and
I did my there she is, Come on, o, Laney Wilson.
She a big old deal. What's up girl?

Speaker 4 (00:37):
We pointed out the wrong door.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
She snuck up, So let's do this. Hey, we're gonna
hang out a little bit. We'll put Uh, I'm gonna.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Give you this.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Okay, whatd y'all think? Could you like it? Hey?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Don't lie because she she's been listening to y'all critique
this album.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
They were like, but I hate that one and I.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
So we're excited because, be honest, how many y'll thought
Laney would.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Show up to this?

Speaker 4 (01:09):
A few of y'all didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I Now I'll tell you, Laney is not judgmental. She's
a teacher that skipped out on teaching children.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
From me, I don't blame you. I don't blame you. Look,
I come from a family of teachers, my mama, all
of my aunts, and they would miss it for some
country music too, So it.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Was worth listen, listen, we know spring.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Uh the summer break is really for teachers, not for
the kids, but as a as a parent, as.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
A parent, as a parent, it wouldn't kill you all
to work all year.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I'm just kidding. I'm kidding. Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
Oh, you're here for some teacher from now Hey.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Y'all, clip this. I don't want to see this nowhere.
This is why you don't have your phones. Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
We got a lot to catch up and limited time
to catch up.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Take kick us off here?

Speaker 4 (01:58):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Well, I think a lot of us really loved Ring Finger.
I could tell a lot of the ladies were vibe
into it. So do you have a story behind I wasn't.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I wasn't.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Yeah, he was like he was salty the whole time.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Boo.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
What's so funny? Because anytime anybody has like a middle
Finger song idea, they come to me. I'm like, what
y'all trying to say, you know, but uh, at first
I thought I was putting myself into the shoes of
a character and kind of writing from that perspective, and
then I realized pretty quick that it was actually me
and uh we had fun with it, like we just

(02:30):
we went for it. And I'll be honest, that's the
track on the record that I was like, either you
gonna love it or you're gonna hate it. And surprisingly, uh,
most people have like been talking about that one. It
really shocks you. So it leaves an impression.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
But I'll tell you it is not that like you're
I'm gonna preface this. Your music is not predictable. But
when we started that song, I was.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Like, you're like, what in the word?

Speaker 1 (02:52):
I'm like, where this idea from?

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Well, okay, so we do it.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
So were you comfortable in that space as well? So
two part question, Oh yeah, so oh it's.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
So different, right, It was way different, But I'll tell you,
like on a storytelling aspect, we wrote it with just
a guitar and so it was like super broke down
and it gave me an opportunity to talk in a song,
which a lot of people talk about my speaking voice.
Whether they love it or hate it, they talk about it,
so we're just given to people what they want, what
they don't want, you know what I mean. And we

(03:22):
got into the studio in the beginning of the song
if you listen to that, liked that part. To me.
When we were creating that, it kind of felt like
that was the character's head and brain and heart, like
she was just mad as hell, and then all of
a sudden, when it kind of comes down into that
funky groove, it feels like she's kind of collected her composure,

(03:43):
so she can tell her side of the story.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
So as people obviously we've heard the album, but as
the rest of the world gets to hear the album,
I always love to ask about a song that means more,
or maybe you put more heart into or it was
this stuff for a tougher story to tell. Is there
one of those songs on this album that you're like, God,
please like this. I don't care if y'all hate five
of them, but this love this one?

Speaker 4 (04:05):
I mean, one that I take a lot of pride
in is probably whiskey colored crayon, just because, like I said,
I am from a family full of teachers and what
I've realized from like traveling the world this year, We've
already toured Australia, UK, Europe, and we on our own
tour right now here. The more people I meet, the
more stories I get to hear from people who just

(04:26):
come through my meet and greet lines. And it's truly
amazing what these people feel comfortable sharing with me. And
I take it and I'm like, man, there's so many
different types of people that make the world go around,
and they go through so much and we all put
our pants on the same way, one leg at a time.
But I think it's important to tell some of the

(04:48):
stories that you hear.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
I gotta tell you we were lucky enough to meet lady.
There's this thing called radio tour. And she probably killed
PTSD in her face when I said that, because drink
because mine's gone. But it's essentially a brand new artist
nobody knows can walk through the airport, nobody cares. Has
the worst flight. Uh, we're seat on the Southwest flight.

(05:12):
We're talking like middle in the back tolet yeah, by
the toilet, right, no seatbelt, hang on. But Laney is
literally just a handful of years away, uh from from
when she was doing that to now being a multi
time entertainer of the year. I mean, if you had
a entertainment contest at your school, right a talent show,

(05:34):
Landy would show up and defeat the children.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
She wins, She wins where she goes. But I will
tell you it's no surprise.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
To anybody that knows her right because obviously names, there's
other names that have been around a long time, but
Laney grinds, Laney works hard. So with all of that,
since radio tour to today, are you comfortable because it's
all shown up at your door real fast.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
It's here. You knock and you shall receive you. I'll
tell you, I think the first ten years of me
being in this town, because I've been here for thirteen,
but I think those first ten years of nothing happening
prepared me for what's happening right now, y'all. I'll be honest.
I'm hanging in there like a hair and a cheese
biscuit right now. But it's so good. It's so many blessings.

(06:20):
I'm like, thank you Jesus. This is what I have
always wanted to do, and it's coming tenfold. And some
days are hard, like this morning. I got up, I
don't know why. I just fell a little cock eyed,
you know what I'm saying, Like, where am I? What
am I doing? I was even like I got in
the truck to come here. I was filming a video
and then I realized, oh shoot, I'm running low on gas.

(06:41):
And then I'm like, oh shoot, I'm about out of
gas because then I forgot that I was running low
on Anyway, A lot's going through my brain right now,
and it probably has a lot to do with this
record coming out. I'm ready for it to happen.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Well, when are some of those moments when you can
slow down and kind of picture what's in front of you,
everything that you've accomplished already, I mean becoming a grand
All Operary member to your massive awards, When do you
get the time to just sit and be like, wow,
like I.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Did all this, I think it'll be top of the year. Yeah,
I'll get a moment just to really like sit there
and take it all in. And I'm the more that
we're doing, like the bigger things that we're doing, the
more I'm realizing how important, Like you just got to
like block off your calendar and be like I need
these days. I just like I can't talk to anybody.

(07:31):
I need to like just just get myself together, fill
your cook so you can try to feel other people.
That's what it's about right there.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
We do want to talk about the establishment we're sitting
in shortly, but first, when you get to where you're at,
you get asks. Right, do you want to endorse this product?
I made up a jingle for you to sing.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I heard you back there, trust me. I was like that,
ain't that bad? Would you say something about twice?

Speaker 1 (07:55):
It's so nice? I bought them twice?

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Y'all heard it? Wrangler? That was Yeah, you say lone
Live Cowgirls, Long live girls.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Uh, we want to talk about this this building. But
to to where you're being pulled in so many directions.
You've had great success working with Hardy on his song, uh,
working with different artists.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Right.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
At what point were you like, yes, post Malone, I'm
all in, I'm working with you.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Well, it was actually the day after the Cmas uh,
the biggest night of my life, and they were writing.
They were like it was like a writing camp all
week long. I know, like Luke Holmb's and Hardy and
Morgan and Ernest and Jelly and everybody had been writing
all week long, but he was like, do you want
to come? Uh, just right through the night. I've never

(08:44):
done that. Like I'm like a morning writer, you know
what I'm saying. But they're like rock They're like real
rock stars. I felt like a loser. I was like, ooh,
I need a rebel. But we wrote through the night.
I get there and they're playing this song nose Dive
at a few of my buddies and him wrote together
and I was just kind of randomly singing harmony in

(09:04):
the background, and I thought this song sounds special. And
he heard me singing some of the harmony and he said,
you just want to sing on this one? And I
said all right, And then we wrote several more that night,
and one of the ones that we wrote him and
Dolly Parton did together. I'm like, it's a big deal.
That's pretty cool. I'm like, if nothing else good happens,

(09:26):
that's enough.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Let me ask one more post malone related thing, because
a lot of artists dip their toe into country, but
it seems like artists like you, artists like Morgan, artists
like like Jelly Dolly have really what's so different about
his experience with country that makes everybody like, yeah, you're
you're legit.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Well, I'll just tell you, like, even aside from knowing
country music history, and like, y'all, when I tell you
he is a country music fan, you could you could
say who sang that song about that watermelon back in
the nineties and blah blah blah whatever, and like he
he knows his stuff and it's just super refreshing, and

(10:05):
it just kind of feels like he should just be
a part of the genre anyway. And then on a
personal note, I watched him that night that we wrote together,
and that was the first time I had ever met him,
was when we wrote because I didn't get to meet
him Matthew Awards the night before. But I watched how
he was treating people, and I watched how he treated
the man who owned the studio, and I watched how

(10:25):
he treated the man who even came in and changed
the trash, and he treated them both the same way,
with love and respect. And I thought, you know what,
you want people like that to win? One hundred percent?
We need more people like post Malone. He's got a
good heart and and he loves country music. So I'm
glad he's here.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Well.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Speaking of collaborations, I want to get back to your
album Whirlwind. You have Miranda Lambert on the album, but
in a world right now where I feel like collaborations
are just on fire. Did you ever feel like, i mean,
pressure to have more collaborations or you're just like, you
know what, this is good.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
I'm good with this, and who knows what will happen.
Maybe we'll, you know, maybe we'll have more collaborations coming.
We're trying to kind of figure that out. We want
to get this out there and see which way the
wind blows.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Got a song with Lallen here?

Speaker 4 (11:14):
No, I didn't, but that's not a bad idea. You're
coming with all kind of good ideas. You ain't right,
but uh but yeah, I mean everybody's doing collaborations. I'm
doing a lot of collaborations, but I have never done
any of my own, like on a project of my own.
And Miranda, she's kind of become like my country music

(11:36):
big sister, tells me what to do, what not to do,
and she like, she's one of those people that will
call me and check on me and be like, how
is your head? You know where you at? Are you Okay.
She even texted me yesterday. She was just like just
checking in, and uh, I just truly care about the girl,
and she truly cares about me. And I mean she's
a huge influence of mind. I don't know of anybody,

(11:58):
any of female artists who mood of this town in
the past fifteen years, who could say that Miranda has
not influenced or pay you the way period.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
So yep, So the elevemn is fantastic. But let's talk
about the day that you were approached. Hey, you want
to put your name on Lower Broadway, like Lany Wilson's
got a spot on Broadway. It's nuts to me because again,
not that you don't deserve it, but like I rewind,
Tay and I were working for a radio station in
Las Vegas at the time. Here comes in this girl

(12:29):
with these bell bottoms carrying her own thing. She was like,
hang on, let me brust my hair before I do
this thing. And I was like, and then and then
she came back, and I go she came back and
I go, oh, I guess she's not brushing her hair, kid,
But don't I hate brushing my hair?

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Hey, same, just do what I did.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
But to know where you where you started and where
you're at now, and the fact that you look up
and down here right artists that have been established for
ten twenty plus years and Landy Will who is dominating
country music right now, boom here you are. So tell
us what this experience was was like from beginning to
now and how involved were you.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Yeah, so they approached us, who I guess about a
year ago now, and they just said, are you interested
in having a place down here? And I thought, well,
heck yeah, like all of my buddies bars are popping
up and uh and I had always said if I
had a bar down here, I kind of manifested. You know,
I'm big about that. I said, I want to call

(13:30):
it bell bottoms Up. Like I had all of these
like visions and everything that I wanted to see come
to life. And then we had a team of people
just really kind of jot down all the things that
that I love, things that like kind of tell my story.
Even I mean, right here, it feels like we're sitting
right in the middle of Louisiana, you know, with the

(13:50):
in the middle of a swamp, with our alligators up
here on the wall. So I was very involved with
with all the creative stuff, but what.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
About the man I did make a joke. I'm gonna
be honest, be honest, I be honest. So Tay was
like she was even involved with the menu, and I go, yeah,
but she didn't cook it, and insinuating I've never had
her food. I don't know if she can cook. But
I was trying to be a funny guy.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
So well, I'll just go ahead and tell you don't
want my cook and I can miss up a hot pocket.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
If you're gonna hit me, do it. If you're gonna
hit me, do it.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
On the other side, I had, I literally had two
root canals this morning on this side.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Did you really?

Speaker 1 (14:35):
But it's Laney Wilson.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
Dude, dude, Jack, what are you doing?

Speaker 3 (14:40):
A cowboy? I got from the city, from the city,
city cowboy. When it comes to the food in the kitchen,
how important was that because obviously you could put your
name up, here's some pictures of me and my friends,
you know, send the check, right, But you were more
involved with that in the food process. What was that

(15:02):
like and what had to make the menu?

Speaker 4 (15:05):
The cookie skillet? Because every night that I'm home in Nashville,
I'm not even playing, y'all. I love me some cookie dough.
I would eat it out of the tub like this
under my arm. You think I'm playing. No, I'm not
proud of it, but it is what it is. So
of course the I think it's the hippies skillet cookie

(15:25):
had to make it, and I love recy cup, so
there's a there's a recy cup in the middle of
it too. But we sat down, we did a lot
of different like tastings, and I knew that I wanted
it to have a little bit of like that Louisiana
Cajun flare to it, because I don't think if there's
anywhere down here that has that, at least on Broadway,
and so wanted to make it my own. And if

(15:46):
y'all hadn't tried some of the food, it's like, it's really, really,
really good and it'll fatten you up around here.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
That Nashville Chicken.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
And maybe you were like, sure, hot chicken, do whatever
with that one. But the Nashville Hot Chicken po boy
is one of the best sandwiches are going to have
on Broadway.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Look at you. Shrimp boil is really good too. I
do like to shrimp too.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
I wanted to ask, because you just announced your jewelry
line with Kendra Scott?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Was that today? Right? That was today a thing?

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Congratulations on that. So how did that come about? Is
this your first jewelry line?

Speaker 4 (16:17):
Yes, this is this is my first jewelry line. I
guess you could say that sounds pretty cool. I've never
said it out loud to right now. I've always been
a fan of Kendrick Scott and then got to meet
her and really just realized that we had a lot
of parallels. I mean, she is, like, she's a go
getter and she just like I get to like tell

(16:38):
a story, she gets to tell a story with her jewelry.
And that's what we did for this. So I'm excited
for all the things are happening right now. It's a lot,
but it's good.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
We're gonna give y all an opportunity to take a
picture with lady over here.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
But I'm going to corner her with a very tough question.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
You have dominated anything you've touched over the last five years.
If today you decided the record, La was like, she's
got to put out two more albums. She can't decide
this today. But let's say today you're like I'm done
with the grind. I'm going to step away. And somebody
asked you, twenty years from now, what is the best
thing that ever happened to Lanny Wilson.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Getting inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. That's it. That's it,
Like that's where my parents took me when I was
nine years old. It was around the same time I
wrote my first song, got my first pair of bill bottoms,
my horse, and it was just like a very pivotabal
moment in my life, and I remember thinking, like, I'm
going to be a part of this industry. I just

(17:40):
had this overwhelming feeling, even at nine years old, and
so I always knew I was part of the family.
They didn't know, but I'm glad they finally realized.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Ladies and gentlemen, Landy Wilson, Thanks y'all, Thank you,
