Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, the election is over. We talked to Tanya Jay
Powers with Fox News Radio yesterday in New York City
about some of those key races nationally. One of those,
obviously the mayor of New York City, Texas Governor Greg Abbott,
said he imposed a steep tariff on New Yorkers that
now want to move to his state. This is West
(00:20):
Michigan's Morning News. Tanya Ja Powers back on the liveline
with us this morning. Thanks for doing this today.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Sure, thanks for having me on. So is he going
to do this?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Can he do this? And why did he want to
do this in the first place. Let's start there.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Well, okay, I can't get inside the head of Governor
Greg Abbott, but I can tell you a couple of
things that I think we all learned in you know,
fifth grade civics that you tariffs are attacks on goods.
You can't teariff people. So that's that's already kind of
(00:53):
a puzzling sort of you know, think this day anyway.
And the other thing to note is he made this
comment before the election yesterday or on Tuesday, before mon
Donnie won, So that is one of the reasons that
you know, it just kind of puzzled a lot of folks.
Is this he said this, you know beforehand. Now, according
(01:15):
to CBS News reporting the governor's office, uh said that
he was just joking on the assumption of people that
people would want to move if mom Donnie is in
fact elected. So that seems to be the way they're
kind of, you know, couching. This is. Oh, it was
a joke. It got millions and millions and millions of
views on social media when he put that, when he
(01:36):
put that.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Post out, So it appears as if and uh, President
jump Trump has jumped in the fray on this thing
as well. Uh, the mayor of New York and the
president of the United States now seemed to represent either
party right and and may be moving forward. What do
you mean, well, Uh, Donnie uh says in his acceptance
(01:58):
speech was all about President Trump, and President Trump said, oh,
it's on now on truth social about the two of those.
So Abbott obviously taking the side of the Republicans on
this thing.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Oh yeah, I mean, I don't think that's a surprise
to anybody. He's pretty much been in lockstep of anything
that you know, the President Trump. You know, it was
on his agenda or things that he had took forward,
uh for a long time. I mean keep in mind
the fact that you know, Texas just did mid to
mid decade redistricting because President Trump said, hey, Texas, we
(02:30):
need to we need to find five more you know,
Republican seats. Uh, and they didn't, you know, waste a
lot of time redrawing the map so that it shouldn't.
I don't think that surprises anybody that you know, Abbott
has taken the side of President Trump, and President Trump
did you know, talk about you know, Mom Donnie several
times over the course of the campaign and even went
(02:53):
so far as to say that he would, you know,
keep federal money from coming into New York City if
Mom and Donnie was elected. So it remains any scene
if he carries through that that threat and what that
actually might mean. But yeah, no, as far as rhetoric goes, yeah,
Abbott definitely goes in step with whatever Trump says.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Well, you let us know if there's any movement there,
and he finds a way to first figure out where
they came from and then how to levy some sort
of punitive action. Tanya J. Power is with Box News
Radio in New York. Thanks for your time this morning.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Sure, thank you
