Speaker 1 (00:00):
We'll get to a new study that looks at which
states have the best and worst economy. Rory O'Neil le
MEC News Radio national correspondent, back on the live line. Rory,
thanks for joining.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Us today story good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
But it's not all about Michigan. Let's start with the
Fed chair talking about the economy yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
What did he sneak.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Out about the possibility of a recession?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Anything? Yeah, not as much as we had hoped. You know,
he gave you this big speech. It was the seventy
fifth anniversary of the International Monetary Fund something something something something.
We were all hoping he'd talk more about the US economy,
and honestly he didn't. Showed a little ankle but no leg,
so we did get a better view about what might
be happening to the domestic economy.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
How would we even talk if we didn't get little
phrases from our dads. Anyway, back to the state of Michigan.
How do we show up when it comes to those
with the best and worst economies?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Smack tab in the middle. Honestly, according to the folks
over at wallet Hub, Michigan ranks twenty fifth in the
high so they break it down into three categories, economic activity,
economic health, and innovation potential. And that's where Michigan does
quite well. Innovation potential comes in at number nine for
the state nationally, so they see a lot of potential

(01:16):
for the future.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
As well they should, and I guess not to harp
on those that aren't doing so well. But who comes
in dead last? He said, mean spiritedly, A right?

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Iowa? Really? Yep?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Sorry, I will okay thenly.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Not a lot of mountains to climb. Yeah, so that
was West Virginia near the bottom. Also Hawaii, yeah, number
it's just so yeah, I want to go and find
out for sure. I don't believe the studies, so I
think the best way is for on the ground research,
and I'm volunteering myself, well done, to go to Hawaii
and find out if this is true.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Here's what's crazy, though, Rory California. When you look at
their economy fourth largest in the world, I mean, it
beats like Japan in other countries.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Right, yeah, Well, and they rank it at number four
in the in this category, the fourth bet state. For
economic activity, they rank second. For innovation potential, they rank third,
But it's the economic health that drags them down. They're
ranked forty seventh out of fifty one in their economic health.
That's specifically looking at the debt ratio and things like that,

(02:23):
so that's one of the reasons that they're kicked down
on this survey. Massachusetts coming in tops, followed by Utah.
Utah has like average salaries or nearly eighty nine thousand
dollars per person, so that brings them way up, and
Washington State comes in at number three.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
There it is NB Seniors Radio National correspondent Rory O'Neil.
Great stuff, Thank you, thanks give
