Speaker 1 (00:00):
Overnight last night.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
They did waiting for this relief. They are waiting for
these life changing results, and we are going to finish
this job. This is a historic moment that we will
be talking to our children and our grandchildren about, and
everyone will remember America's back speaker Johnson.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Before they actually voted and right along party lines, with
one boat despair, they passed in the House the big
beautiful budget bill. We are waiting a confirmation. With a
conversation with Ryan Schmells with Box News Radio to see
just how they pulled that thing off. We were wondering
(00:40):
if they could get it done and if the Memorial
Day weekend would be the thing that would finally push
them over a meeting. They all go home and hang
out and do their thing. So I think that was
the thing that finally did it. So here is Ryan Schmels.
I always say I'm not going to get caught up
on timelines, and then I get caught up on timelines.
(01:00):
So Ryan, how did this thing happen?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
There are a lot of ways in which this happened.
I mean, this was a a big time effort. It
was a group effort on the House Republican's path. They
had a lot of closed door meetings. They had President
Trump come to Capitol Hill. This was a tough task
for Speaker Johnson to do, to get all the moderates,
all the conservative members with all the problems you had,
(01:25):
and to get them to a point where they could
all say yes, it was. It was. This is a
huge political win for House Speaker Mike Johnson. I don't
think there's any question about this, you know. I think
I think back to what President Trump said earlier in
the week when he said nobody else could do this
job with a one steap majority. Uh, brotherid Trump, He said,
I couldn't do this job with a one seap majority.
(01:45):
Somebody like me can't do this job. And he went
on how Speaker Johnson is, Uh, you know, he's nice,
he's religious, he prays, and you know it was it
was a kind of a humorous moment at the time.
But you know, here Speaker Johnson is a few days
later passing the one thing beautiful bill.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
They make it out of committee, they do a procedural
vote in the full House, and then bam, just minutes
ago the full House vote. So I'm assuming everybody gets
to go home for the memorial weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
But oh yeah, the cars were lined up when I
got here at five in the morning, and those cars
are out taking there. Now, those staffers in those cars
are taking their members to the airport, and we are
on the moil day recess. And then when we get back,
well we get to go have the same party over
in the Senate.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
So to that end set up, what sort of challenges
are ahead in the Senate?
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Yeah, well, I think the Medicaid issue is going to
be one that we got to watch for. I think
you're gonna have to watch for some fiscal hawks who
are going to say that they want to see some
additional spending cuts and that this current bill doesn't do enough.
But keep in mind, there were some major changes that
were made late last night that got a number of
these numbers c yes, like taking the Medicaid work requirements,
(03:00):
moving them from twenty twenty nine when they start to
twenty twenty six, and then some other changes as well.
But keep in mind, you know, I'm sure you know
we've can talk about the solved issue a lot. Well
guess what, guess what the Senate doesn't have. They don't
have Republicans from Salt States. So I'm curious how they
feel about this issue.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Interesting. Well, obviously something will be following, but not this
weekend because your lawmakers will be back in Memorial Day
parades and observices, So ask them and then get back
to us. Yeah, exactly, Ryan Smells with Fox News Radio
I in Washington, DC. Thank you for your time today
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Of course, thank you,
