Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, along with this government shutdown thing, we almost got
rid of daylight saving time this week. This is West
Michigan's Morning News. Was that in the bill see Kelly
bred the Kata Lawrence Smith. It was not attached to that,
but it was legislation that came up. Tanya J. Powers,
Fox News Radio in New York this morning. It's still
going to happen this weekend, Tanya, Yes, it.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Is still going to happen this weekend. We will still
fall back as we usually do around this time of year.
So yeah, it is get ready for an extra extra
hour on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
I'm reading an article from Politico that blames Senator Tom
Cotton for getting in the way of legislation that could
have removed them. Well, why did we do it in
the first place? Take us back all those years ago.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Well, it started during World War One. The idea was
to save coal and boost productivity. Congress passed it, then
they scrapped it, and then they brought it back during
World War Two. So it has been contra virtual since
the get go. Because the farmers even thought it, They
said it, you know in nineteen eighteen when it first
you know, was talked about first came about and they said, well,
(01:08):
messes with the milking schedule. So you know, hey, let's
don't do this. There have there have been a lot
of people ever since to have said, hey, let's don't
do this, because every every time, at like twice a
year we at least was when we you know, have
the topic, you know, broadly among the public of why
are we doing this again two am local time on
(01:29):
Sundays when it changes, we you know, set our clocks back.
It is one of those things where we get more
daylight the summer evenings, we fall back in November, get
more daylight in the morning. Interestingly, not every US state
and territory does this. Hawaii and Arizona have just opted out.
(01:50):
They are like, yeah, we're not we're not doing that.
The not the Navajo Nation is the only part of
Arizona that actually has you know, does not comply with that.
But they the rest of the territories don't also also
don't do daylight saving time, So you know, it's it's
something that I guess each state could make their own
decision if they really wanted to, but yeah, this is
(02:12):
it's one of those things where we hear all all
sorts of things about this at least twice a year.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
It's so funny though you don't think of it, and
people kind of like, you know, oh, I get an
extra hour sleep whatever. But just last night, I'm driving
home from dinner with my wife, and what do I
see out there speaking to the farmers where it started.
There's you know, two combines with full blown lights. It
looks like a you know, an airplane is landing in
this field and they're out there getting their work done right,
(02:38):
even though it's dark. And I thought about the other
night when I wanted to go out mow my lawn,
and normally the time I mow my lawn, I'm like, wait,
I can't do that. It'll be I won't get it
done right. So it is a thing mentally that you
have to think about.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Oh absolutely, I mean to say nothing of like if
you wanted to go out and exercise, you know, take
take a walk, it'say, you know, go for a run
or whatever. A lot of people just aren't doing that
in the dark, you know, right, It's just it's not
it's not as conducive. That's why, you know, during the
summer without moving and exercising, and health experts that you
know have have even weighed in on this. Matter of fact,
(03:13):
I've got an interview coming up in this evening's Fox
News Rundown podcast, the evening edition of it, where we're
going to be talking about daylight saving time and the
effect that that has on your health, talking to a
cardiologist about that. So that'll be on our evening edition podcast.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
You let us know if it comes up for a
vote again, And they asked us our opinion. Right Talks
News Radio in New York this morning. Happy Halloween, Thanks
