Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is a big weekend when it comes to football locally.
The president of Farris State University joins us on the
live line. This is West Michigan's Morning. Naw Steve, Kelly Bread,
Pekita Lordon Smith, Ladies and gentlemen, the nineteenth president of
Farris State University, doctor Bill Pink, Thanks for taking time today.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Always good to hear your voices.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Talk to us a little bit. We got to start
with football and this quarterfinal matchup. Who knew Minnesota State
was a real college. I thought it was just the show.
Coach right is.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Dob were going to be there. That's what I want
to know, Doc.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
I want to know Shelley Fabre is going to be Yeah,
exactly and good if any of.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Those folks show up, I'm calling you guys first, and
then yeah, we will be overwhelmed. Would be shocked. Yeah,
Minnesota State, Hey, Saturday, quarterfinals of the national Tournament. And
what's so cool about this is that coach Tony and
these and his staff have done amazing work in our

(01:00):
our student athletes have done amazing work. If you remember,
we were cherry picked by the portal at the end
of last season. You go and you win the National
Championship people sided Chambliss and others were just cherry pick
and losing eight starters, eight influential players for us to

(01:22):
now sit here thirteen to zero, undefeated, number one in
the country from pole to pole, I mean preseason all
the way to now number one in the country and
at the quarterfinal level, now having a chance to do
something really special and hopefully making a run at a
back to back. I give all kudos and accolades to

(01:44):
our coaching staff, having a legendary coach like coach Tony
and Niths and having student athletes who have the grit
and have that bulldog grit to say we can win
another one. And I and hey, we'll see what happens
in Minnesota state. Hey, they're used to playing in this
kind of weathers like we are welcome to the snow.
They're still probably be disappointed that we don't have more

(02:06):
snow on the field.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
And by the way, we're happy doctor Pink to be
again partner with you guys. We've normally done it with
the National Championship Game and other big events for basketball,
but we are carrying all the playoff games on ninety
six to one. The game our sister station, so Nune
with the pregame coverage, Rob Bentley and the crew one
o'clock kickoff, you can catch it there if you can't
make it up to the game. And you know, with
what you just said, coach, coach doctor is the fact

(02:29):
that I'll call you coach though we'll throw that in
there is very cool in the fact that you know,
when you look at education and you look at student athletes,
you always want the best for your athletes. And you
mentioned those athletes because of the way it is with
the transfer portal. You look at what the recognition has
been for Trinidad, Chandliss and these other guys. It's been
great for Farris State football and Farris State as a school. Right.

(02:50):
I mean, I'm watching a game and like CBS is
telling you all about Farris State Athletics and Farris State University.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Can't beat the three advertisement in marketing that we've received
the last three months from Trinidad's success. And Trinidad is
an excellent, excellent person, excellent student athlete who has a
lot of bulldog pride. It's so nice that we get
those levels of recognition to help folks understand that having

(03:18):
an incredible athletic program across the board, including amazing football, volleyball, basketball, hockey.
We have that, but the message also needs to be
we were about building the student athlete and the programs
and academic offerings that we do at Farris. That's why
Carnegie Foundation named US an Opportunity university back several months ago,

(03:42):
which meant that that Opportunity University designation only went to
about a little under five hundred of the four thousand
pirate institutions in the country. We were one of those.
And what that meant is that accessing us is smooth,
but it means also earning. It's about access and earning.
So it's the value proposition of higher education, they said,

(04:05):
and it's a third party. It's something we've known at
fair State for one hundred and forty years, and that
is a Fair State education earned you. A person who
graduates from our place, they earn money that is living
wage money that is a career shaping money that the
Carnegie Foundation said, Fair State, you are one of those

(04:26):
few in the country in the country that your graduates
leave and they have a great opportunity at being able
to feed their family with the education that's provided there.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Man well said Doctor Pink. One final question, do the
quarterfinals get you to face paint yourself?

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Are we saving that for the finals?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
You know you can't see. I cannot dip into the
bag of surprises when it comes to this whole thing.
So if I were to reveal on radio what's the
next is, I don't know. I would I probably violate
something there with me. The question. The question would be
if we did the face paint, what face? What? What

(05:08):
color would we go? Would it be the crimson, would
it be the gold or would it just be a
pink face. I don't know. I'd have to think about that.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
I see the pictures if it happens, Doctor Bill Pink
always great stuff, Best of luck this weekend. Thanks for
your time.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Hey, you guys are awesome. I look forward to talking
to you again sometimes as soon go talk

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
