Speaker 3 (00:10):
All right.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's start TIYE with Michigan State at Minnesota. It's a
three point thirty kick on the Big Ten network. That
means two o'clock pregame coverage on Big one to one
point three FM. Michigan State a five game losing streak.
They're on the road, winless in the Big Ten. I
guess my question to you is, I mean this, if
you're going to turn anything around for Jonathan Smith, it's
got to be here. You got to throw everything, including
the kitchen sink at the Golden Golphers. Not an easy
(00:33):
place to win. And then I guess part of my
question is if Aiden Childs doesn't look right, how long
do you go with him?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I think not long. I mean if he's not able
to function at one hundred percent, I mean you've got
a pivot. I don't think Michigan State really has the
ability to go with somebody that's eighty percent or seventy
percent of what they are because at one hundred percent.
It hasn't been what everybody wanted. And you know, you're
zero to five in the Big Ten. Luckily, where you
(01:01):
you're traveling, which I've often found can rally you a
little bit easier in terms of it's us versus them. Right,
you're on the road, you don't have the home fans.
You just got to go out and play football. And
for them, look, Minnesota's you know, they're a decent football team,
but they're coming off getting their tails waxed around out
(01:21):
in Iowa, right, So yeah, I mean I was thinking
it's forty one to three or something. So PJ. Fleck
is going to be looking to be rowing the boat
because last week it was thinking. So I just think
that Michigan State goes into a heart scenario here, but
it is a gut check time. This is a mental test.
At the end of the day, you are grated at
nothing else other than a win loss record, and right
(01:43):
now in the Big Ten, it's been very tough and
these guys got to figure out a way to dig deep,
be competitive and give themselves a chance to win.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
And I didn't think the defense played bad for Michigan State,
necessarily against Michigan it's not like Minnesota's an overwhelming offense.
I think you got to try to strike early and
from Minnesota to your point time, not only coming home
to the home standing fans after getting waxed by Iowa.
They're one went away from Bowl eligibility. They've got five wins,
so you know they'd like to do that at home
against a winless in the Big Ten at Michigan State team. Now,
(02:11):
let's go to the night game under the lights, seven
o'clock on the Big Ten Network. Six o'clock pregame coverage
from Ann Arbor here on WOULD Radio number twenty one
Michigan at six and two overall against the struggling Purdue team.
I look at these next few games, the way they
set up before you get to Ohio State. Do you
see Michigan trying to unleash or do more things with
their passing game because they're not going to be able
(02:32):
to get away with what they did at Michigan State,
as you know, against number one Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, I agree. I think this is an opportunity for
Bryce Hunderwood to be able to throw the ball around.
You know, Michigan. The one thing that's crazy about their
situation going into this game. And again, I don't think
you're overly worried because of produced struggles themselves. Although they
got some solid players. It's just the fact that they've
got some injuries kind of adding up both linebackers Sullivan
and Ruler are supposed to be out, you know, do
(02:57):
you got just sains Is and dinged up a little bit.
So I think to your point, getting healthy, getting brace
Underwood that opportunity to continue to get confidence make plays.
You know, I think this is a solid win easily
from Michigan. It's just you got to, you know, kind
of take care of business, make sure people are getting healthy,
but also provide opportunities for all the different variations of
(03:21):
things that brace Underwood can do for you is to
build on that getting the ball down the field using
his feet when he needs to. But this should be
a good opportunity for Michigan, you know, in a night
game home, to continue to hone that offensive and defensive
side of the field quite frankly, with guys getting banged up,
et cetera. To take the opportunity to get some guys
(03:41):
some reps and get better. It's just one of those games,
you know. Yeah, it may be under the lights. But
the reality of it is they should beat Purdue decisively,
but they got to take care of business and get
better as they do it.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Final minute time. Lions back home after a bie week,
speaking of getting healthy at five and two hosting JJ McCarthy.
It looks like back at quarterback in the minute. So
the Vikings coming in at three and four noon starts
our coverage on Big one to one point three FM
from Ford Field. I like this matchup in the lines. I
think Minnesota comes in beat up.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, they do. I think they've you know, defensively for
some reason. You know, they were solid defensively kind of
out of the gates, and then they've kind of gotten
out of that staunch up front scenario. They've really been
giving up some opportunities for folks to run against them.
I think the Lions need to be able to do
that and to establish that early use these backs. We
have to get some good yardage. But I think the
(04:29):
key to me is, you know, it's Jared Golf, He's
at home. The ability to take those short and intermediate routes,
Tom Ross, Saint Brown and just take chunks and move
this ball down the field to get a victory. I think,
you know, Aiden Hutchinson, he's got one hundred and forty
one million reasons why he needs to get to J. J.
McCarthy and make his life miserable. So that's a good thing.
(04:50):
He'll be incentivized earned every dollar. In my mind, he's
you know, obviously one of the best Russians in the
in the in the league, and at the end of
the day, him getting back to JJ McCarthy among others,
I think will be the difference here. I don't think
this is a great game for McCarthy to come back
to just because of what I think defensively the Lions
can do to get to him with some injuries again
(05:10):
on Minnesota side of the ball as well.
