Speaker 2 (00:10):
All right, Ty, here is the scenario that we look at.
Even though Michigan and Michigan State are off as far
as by weekends, you want to watch some good Big
Ten football, there's Indiana, Ohio State or are still unbeating
conference play. Then you've got Michigan, Oregon, Iowa, and USC
all with just one loss and a lot of these
teams are going to start to play each other if
they haven't already because it's November. So that said, let's
(00:32):
go to number two Indiana at Penn State tomorrow. That's
the big newon kickoff on Fox. Indiana has been putting
up points on everybody except that Iowa game. So how
do you see this one, Ty Halleck.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Well, you know, it's funny when you talk about the
offense for Indiana and all that they do, do you
realize that Indiana defense is number one versus their run.
Don't give up just about eighty yards a game. So
for Penn State and interim coach Terry Smith, you know
they still have Allen and Singleton nine hundred and eighty
yards combined between the two seventeen touchdowns, and Penn State's
(01:07):
only hope is being able to run the football. I mean,
it's it's an amazing drop from where Penn State was
at the beginning of the season to where they are now.
And I think they've played hard since James Franklin's been gone,
but it's just it's still disarray. But I think there's
some prize there. Obviously, they're going to be at Beaver
(01:27):
Stadium out at Penn State, and you do have two
really good running backs that if Penn State has any
chance whatsoever, they're going to have to run the football.
But the problem is for Signetti's Indiana Hoosiers that's known
and has been for the last little bit of time. Now.
Thinking about the offensive side, it's the defense that's pretty
(01:48):
stout too, And I think that's what makes Indiana most
impressive is how balanced they are.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah, you go back to that Oregon win on the
road October eleventh, and you look at their last four games.
They beat Oregon thirty to twenty on the road, than
Michigan State thirty eight thirteen, UCLA fifty six to six,
and then Maryland after a slow start at Maryland fifty
five to ten. So you're right, that combo of defense
and then they put up a lot of points. It's
gonna be tough if this one gets in the high
(02:13):
twenties or thirties for Penn State to keep up. Let's
go from there to another good game. Three thirty tomorrow
on CBS number nine, Oregon at number twenty Iowa. And
I mentioned Iowa. We know they're always good defensively, always
have a good offensive line and running game. I think
quietly people forget, especially at home, they're so good. They're
six and two and four and one coming to this game.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Ty yeah, And I mean, you know Iowa is one
of those teams that you know, traveling on the road.
If you're Oregon, you're not. This is no check to
box and we're gonna win type scenario. Both these teams
have really good defense. Uh, Dan Lanning is gonna have
to you know, I think get some explosive plays downfield
with this quarterback down team Moore if he can against Iowa.
(02:55):
Phil Parker, the decordinator for Iowa's been there forever and
he it doesn't matter who they play. Typically that defense
holds them into the game. So the question is, in
my mind, does Iowa have in Tim Lester's offense, you know,
the former Western Michigan coach and player, what can he
do to muster up something vertical downfield or some big
(03:18):
chunks against a very good Oregon defense to match what
I think Oregon's advantages is just those explosive plays downfield
with some of those athletic receivers. Can Iowa do some
of the same stuff or you know not, Unlike the
other game we were talking about, be able to run
the football consistently to keep Oregon off the field. But
(03:38):
this is a It's at Kinnick Stadium. It's an awesome
place to see a football game. Iowa is a really
cool place to see a football games. It's going to
be electric. Should be a great, great.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Matchup and basically both these teams for when conference play
the loser, it's an elimination game as far as getting
ready for who's going to be an Indie in the
Big Ten Championship game? All right, final game Sunday, Detroit
Lions at five and three, licking their wounds after a
home loss to Minnesota, taking on the Washington Commanders who
were at three and six and no Jadon Daniels, he
(04:11):
is out for this season. Lion's big favorites in this one.
But this one always makes me nervous. I mean, I
go back to that you know NFC playoff game, right,
and what happened with the Commanders last year at Ford Field.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Well, hopefully for Dan Campbell, not only last week, but
the motivation from last year in a scenario where Washington
came in and took one from you. It certainly doesn't
hurt the cause that Jayden Daniels is out, but Mariota's solid.
They have bigger problems. They've lost all kinds of receivers
and Terry mcglog. I don't even think he's gonna play.
(04:42):
So you know, this is an opportunity to go on
the road, kind of circle the wagons, if you will.
Dan Campbell, you know, motivated his team obviously. You know,
we've got some people nicked up to with, you know,
Penny Suwele and Decker. But they did practice the other day,
so that's that's good. But this is one of those
where you're supposed to get to win, so you got
(05:02):
to go in and do it. But it's the National
Football League, and look, dan Quinn and his staff aren't
going to say, hey, oh it's the Lion, let's just
give him a victory and let him leave. So I
hope the Lions can show up and we can see
some of those plays we were looking for last week offensively,
getting down the field and being able to run the football.
They better be able to run the football to turn
(05:24):
this thing in the right direction. Remember, they haven't lost
back to back games and quite some time, so hopefully
they can take care of business at Washington.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
