Speaker 1 (00:00):
Griffins are home for two this weekend, Friday and Saturday.
This is West Michigan's Morning News. Steve Kelly, Brett, Bikita,
Laurence Smith, Ladies and gentlemen on the live line with
us today. The nineteenth captain of your Grand Rapids Griffins
in franchise history, Dominic Seine, thank you so much for
doing this today.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Ye thanks for having me so Dominic.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I got to ask you any idea this was coming
with her conversations, how does that work when they announced
a new captain?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
You usually have somewhat of a clue. There's a couple
of conversations in the summer and about you know, being
part of the leadership group and things like that, but
I didn't really know for sure. So it's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Your ninth full season because you came in at the
end of your college career which you see a lot
for a few games, to play with the Griffins that
first season. How does it feel as far as to
be named captain and what comes with that? I mean,
you have a guy and Brian Lashoff was your assistant
coach who was a former captain. Have you been able
to lean on him a little bit? Or not.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, for sure, I mean my whole career. Uh, you know,
last and I were good friends. You know, we're we're
roommates on the road for for a couple of years there,
so we got to know each other pretty well in
terms of like, you know, how we operate off the ice,
how we operate as a hockey player, things like that.
So he's always been there to help me with things
like that. But uh, you know what comes with it
is just you know, teammates look up to you a

(01:21):
little bit. You know, you got to lead by example,
you got to do things the right way, and a
lot of it is, uh, you know, a lot of
the guys are young kids, so you just got to
be there for them and thinking anything, just try to
help him out.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Have you ever been a captain before?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yeah I have at Northern Michigan or in your youth day.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Yeah, I was a captain and juniors and then I
was an assistant captain in Northern. So you know it's
something I took pride in and always. You know, I'm
not really one to speak up and you know say
a lot of you know, raw rau stuff in the
locker room or anything like that. But I'm one to
lead by example, and I think that's what I've always
took pride in, is just playing the right way and
doing things like that.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
You Grant Appens, Griffin's Captain Dominic Shine joining us here
on the Griffin's Power Play. We do it every Tuesday
at eight thirty six here on would Radio your home
for Griffin's Hockey. I had to get those questions out,
but now I've got a few of my own. I
want to go a little deeper. We've heard the ADS
membership has its privileges. Does captainship have its privileges? I
mean you get your own parking spot at Vanandelarena. Is
there like a better locker room set up for you?

(02:21):
I mean, have you noticed anything like that?

Speaker 2 (02:24):
No, I've always been taking care of pretty well here.
I mean Doug's been one of my goodvides for you know,
nine years now, so he's always taken good care of me.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Any excitement with this team, I know you're rookie goldtend
Or Michael Bostava who we're excited to see you got.
Sebastian Coosa is working his way up as well through
the Red Wings. But coming out of training camp, we
talked to your head coach last week. I mean, how
fired up you because obviously some more youth infused in
the Griffins and Red Wings organizations, and with that comes competition,
but also a higher level of hockey.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Right, Yeah, absolutely. You know, we have a lot of
new guys coming to the team, and it's been really
cool to see how they all gel together and things
like that. But I think we have a great team,
so I'm just really excited to see what we can do.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
You guys get nice two wins in Texas, not an
easy place to play to start the season last weekend.
You get your first goal, a power play goal on
a deflection, and now you take that momentum into I'll
ask you now as a captain, but you've been here before.
Home opener for the Grandpas Griffins is special and that's
going to happen Friday night, obviously a game Saturday as

(03:26):
well against Manitoba.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yep, Yeah, we're excited.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
You know.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Home opener is always fun, especially coming off two wins
in Texas. Like you said, that's a hard place to play,
so we're pretty happy with those results and just try
to carry it over, you know, play the right way.
And hopefully get a couple more wins.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Now you're from Detroit originally, so I got to ask
you this. I mean, we see guys and talk to
them that play college hockey usually all over the place
or juniors. You played at Northern Michigan, as I mentioned earlier,
best part of going to school and playing in the
up worst part of playing in the up.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Part was, I think, just good people. It was really
really good people up there. It's a small community, so
you see a lot of the same people everywhere. And
then the summers were absolutely amazing up there. I'd spend
every summer up there with you know, me and my
roommates would stay up there and you know, go to
the beach, play volleyball and things like that. So it
was always really fun. And the worst part is obviously

(04:20):
the snow.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
I said that because it's still seventy degrees, right, it
seems weird that we're into hockey season already. But it's
been great here and Grant up but you're probably enjoying it.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Right, Oh, it's great. Yeah, I mean, Marquet, it was
just insane, like we had to shovel our driveway at
our house and stuff like that. So it was like,
it was just crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Well, congratulations on the sea, on your sweater, captain of
your Grand Rapids, Griffins Captain, my captain, it is dominic shine.
Thank you for your time today, Thank you for having me.
