Speaker 1 (00:01):
Red hot once again as they kick off their thirtieth
season at Van Andel Arena. I'm talking about your grand
Rapids Griffin's Sebastian Cosa joins us on the liveline this morning.
Thank you so much for doing this today.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, of course, thanks you having me on.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
So, Sebastian, I gotta ask you, are you because you
grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, about seventy kilometers away from Toronto?
Are you?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
I had to throw that into there for Steve Kelly,
I know. Are you a Blue Jays fan?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Ah? Yeah, I was Blue jess fan. Yeah, growing up,
especially bakon Canada. I'll be not to not to many
other baseball teams through Repo, so yeah, big way.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
I was just going to say they were going nuts
first time in thirty two years. So you got to
pull out the Blue Jays gear. Now let me carry
that over. Are you a Maple Leaf fan? Because I
know how it goes as far as Canadian hockey players.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Parents were for quite a while. Yeah, I was born
Hamilton and then moved out pretty early. I lived in
Ontario for couple of years. So after that, my parents
were uh, Maples fans and kind of tearful Oilers in
the league growing up.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I was going to say it was pretty easy, right
because there was another pretty famous hockey player I think
from Hamilton who you know, starred for the Oilers, So
pretty easy to follow Gretzky, right.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, yeah, not another party cheer for.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Hey, you've been with us before. Your fourth season is
a Griffin. It's hard to believe he's still just twenty
two years old. Guys, he turns twenty three next month
and off to a great start. Two games under your belt,
as far as two wins in net. Talk about this
year's team though, because I think there's a theme between
the white Caps and the Griffins, like the Tigers and
the Red Wings, and coming out of training camp, what
(01:46):
was the sense with just how much talent, especially young talent,
is in this organization.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, obviously to see the Red Wings right now, you know,
they've gone off to a really hot star, which is
awesome to see him, you know, looking at their Griffins
in this year, you know, I think our de corps
is unbelievable. You know, right now we have uh you know,
I think four one way players on our on our
d cor right now, which is almost not heard of
the AHL, So you know, we're really strong back there,
(02:14):
which is which is making my life a lot easier
right now, which has been awesome, and right now on
their offense, clicking on all cylinders, so you know, special
teams everything. You know, we've got got off to a
really hot start and you know, hopefully we continue us
as as it goes on.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Say percentage right now nine to fourteen. For Sebastian obviously
I mentioned this fourth season, he's coming off of twenty
two win season, twenty one win season. So what in
particular for you and what are the coaches in the
organization telling you that they want you to work on
like this year now in year four with the Griffins.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
For me, I think it's just more consistency, you know,
being an everyday guy, whether that be games or pass
you know, just bringing, uh bringing when I came to
the table every single day. You know, I think obviously,
you know, you work a lot of stuff over this summer,
whether it be technicolor or mental stuff to work on.
But the anything from me right now, you know, especially
(03:07):
as it's my third third full season here in Grand Rapid,
start to be consistent every day, you know, that's something
I'm focusing on right now. For sure.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I'm looking at your photo right now online. You got
the beard that you're rocking. So I got to ask
you because every guy that has a beard has a
beard story. And I know that you're superstitious, right because
all the goaltenders are Are you going beard or no
beard right now this season? And if you are, is
it like full Grizzly Adams beard.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
I know we're going full beard. No, it's kind of
something I've been the rockings just probably you know, eighteen nineteen,
I was able to grow up pretty early, and you
know it's just I do shave it very very rarely, toughly,
definitely look a little different, so you know, I think
it's toots my face a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Well, you know that during your birthday coming up, when
you're in twenty three, it's no shave November, so you're
good there for at least a month and a half.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
You know, we like to have phone with you.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Let me ask you. Now that you've been around in
the h L in traveling you guys, are you know,
going to some different places, some different teams are coming
in the way the schedule works. Where is your favorite
road destination in the h L.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
You know Cleveland quite a bit. We go there usually
four or four times a year. That's pretty nice Airkip City,
you know. I feel like a lot of the city's
you know, in our division, whether it be you know,
Chicago or Roxford. You know, it's a usually trips there.
I was lucky enough to put the All Star Game
last year, which is in Palm Springs, which is you know,
(04:37):
another level obviously, that's that's beautiful out west there. You know,
I think I think, you know, I gotta be a
little byas here, but I think Grant Rapids obvious is
it's probably a top three, top five market and definitely
the entire American League. So you know, it's very lucky
that's that we live here and I are able to
play here.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
You will see the Griffins home this weekend. It's moose season.
Fran Today night Manitoba se came to town at Van
and Arena. Sebastian Kosa with the Griffins. Thanks for your
time today.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Thanks check around beyond guys, appreciate it.
