Speaker 1 (00:13):
The beautiful ndition of our national anthem by the Hudsonville
Marching Band tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Both schools just getting into session.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
The Eagles last week, the Bulldogs of Byron Center. My
daughter's over there somewhere in the student section. They had
their first day as school bucks. You know, they were
one of the later schools in Westbiscan just yesterday. So
two days in and here we go. We're kicking off
the high school football season. What a match up here
tonight is we talked about the Bulldogs out of the
OK Green actually finished in second place behind this Gigamona Shores.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
We did that games. What are our games? The week?

Speaker 1 (00:43):
A heck of a game over there. They had some
guys missing out, played tough, had a chance to win,
but three interceptions thrown by their senior quarterback Land and
Tongugate really did them in. Thus they finished four to
one of the OK Green. But maybe that kind of
was the stimulus because then they went on a run
get all the way beat Mona Shores in the playoffs
to get to the Division two state championship game at

(01:03):
Ford Field. Meanwhile, Hudsonville and you mentioned brent Sandy, the
Eagles were chomping at the bit. They've had some good
programs and the younger levels coming up.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
They ran the table there. You're defending OK red champs well,
and it's going to be very difficult to repeat as
OK Red champs. As you well know, Brett always a
tough division, but I think for my money, the OK
Green is probably second right behind the OK Red This
year very competitive. Three or four teams could win each
division and you wouldn't be surprised. But right now they're

(01:34):
focused on each other. As we get ready to kick
off the twenty and twenty five season.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Number thirty three, John Tillotson the senior kicker, teasing up
for Hudsonville in their home blue jerseys with the yellow numbers,
the yellow pants, yellow caps with the eagle feathers on
the side, Hudsonville and they're visiting White with the black
numbers and orange trim. Got the black helmets with the
orange bulldog on the side, the black pants with the orange.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
And white stripes.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
A couple of juniors back deep will bomb back along
with Connor kneeling as the left. He approaches high end
over end kick and this one's gonna be in the
end zone.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Automatic touchback over Nieland's head. It'll be first down in ten.
The Bulldogs will start from their own twenty yard lines.
It's like when you so you offer the first tea
and the wins at your back, you want to let
one go. And that's what exactly happened there. Good kick
and that'll start them off on the twenty.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Easton white cheers. Number nine, the senior quarterback six one
one eighty. As Buck mentioned, great athlete, played a lot
of wide receiver last year because of Land and Dungate,
who's on to Davenport University. By the way, what a
career he had for the Bulldogs of four year varsity
player at the quarterback position. Whitchers don't watched him in
the scrimmage. Very capable. They come out with campaign in
the backfield. Now they hand off, they want to go outside,

(02:43):
turn to the corner to twenty five up the sideline.
I got a first down of Mori's bomb back, a
little flanker screened to the right side. I should say
flanker handoff and he just went wide the key to
Byron center. We saw it last year on that playoff run.
They're not necessarily big, they're physical but they have speed
and they love to get their speed and their talent

(03:03):
in space.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Well, Hudsonville packing it down a little bit there and
they run bomb back just on the little mini jet
sweep to the far side of the field.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
He picks up sixteen.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
First down in town. They work from the thirty six
motion man fake to him. Whier's wants to throw first
pass of the twenty twenty five campaign. They try to
get to pain but good coverage step first step with
him that time defensively was Lance Rodisky, the senior linebacker.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Well you can see they're the wind having an effect
on Whitcher's there he throws the ball. Our campaign did
not really turn around to get that one. He was
looking for it coming over the top and the ball
hung up in the air. So something to watch for
early br I mean that flag down to the south
end of the field is almost dead straight pointing south.
A lot of juniors in the specialty positions.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Good junior class campaign in the backfield on second and
ted and now we have moving up front with an
offensive lineman. Fall started and moving back five will set
your sporting You starting laps offensively for Mark Cisco and
the Bulldogs campaign number two junior. We talked about him
six foot two, fifteen Rushford just under seven hundred yards
and six touchdowns last year as a sophomore. Number twenty

(04:08):
two junior Connor Neelan will rotate in. They'll also use
him in the slot. Your tight end is senior Tate Bambridge.
This guy had the second most snaps that he played
last year, only to Isaac Lee remembers their special team standout.
This kid is the Swiss Army Knife, as Mark Cisco
describes him of the Byron Center football team. Directcand off
to Whitchers, gets a nice block by Pain trying to

(04:29):
get to the edge, turns the corner and across the
thirty seven to the thirty eight yard life before he's
hit and dropped there defensively on the stop that time
as horror Disky and also Zatandikstra for the Eagles, but
a nice pickup there on second and fifteen after the penalty,
it's gonna set up now a third and seven, so

(04:50):
a gain of eight that time for the Bulldogs.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Well, and that penalty now looming a little bit large
as it's third and eight instead of third and three.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
After a nice gain on second down for Whitchers.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
So now looking at potentially a passing situation, Hudsonville can
be a little aggressive here.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Marcellus Vance, senior, split to the near side by himself.
They go slot to the far side of the wheeled
Rhine Whites just fakes the pain, swings down in the
flat looking for a block, breaks to tackle, but not
gonna break the second well short of the first down
the thirty nine, just to gain a won that time.
The catch was Chase Schwartz, the senior, and coach Cisco
really high on Schwartz and our notes getting ready for

(05:28):
this game, saying, you know what, he played in the
shadow of Isaac Lee, but he's getting a lot of
college looks already at the smaller level.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Yeah, And like I said, Hudsonville there being aggressive Will
Mandrick on the corner blitz. They brought the house to
the passing side, so that forced Whitchers to kind of
have to hang that up in the air. It was
gonna be a little bit of a slip screen, but
Hudsonville covers it well and they forced the first punt
of the game.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah, fourth and seven from their own thirty nine. Keaton
van Kampen, quarterback will kick it away lefty into the
wind and over ran and that's not gonna go very far.
Hits to the Hudsonville forty four on the fly, takes
a positive bulldog bounce, rolls dead at the forty one.
So good field position here, Hudsonville kicking off to start
the game. The defense holds and now they'll have the

(06:10):
wind at their back here in this opening quarter as
their offense goes out, led by senior quarterback Brady van Lake.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Now, tremendous effort by him last.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Year, and I know the coaches very proud because they
had Griffin Baker returning as the starter. He said, Hey,
wherever I can play, he did in a fantastic wide receiver,
made some unbelievable catches. Now back in his normal positionive quarterback,
shifting out of it now on first in ten, they
bring Van Lake in from the wide receiver position to
the shotgun handoff Harsman left side, looking for running room,

(06:43):
trying to bounce the outside corraled fights through a tackle
dragon It would be tackled after the forty five. Nice
job that time by Harsma.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
It was Ethan Parker, the senior linebacker on the stop
after a gain of four second and six.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
So it's Brady Van Lake senior. Owen Harsby will be
in the backfield with him. They're tight in his wildy
young big fellow number eighty eight is senior and they
have a very good offensive line. I know four returning
starters from last year, Buck Gino.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah, they have four returning the starters, but there were
injuries that led to those, so that not all a
year starters. Good experience though, as we see a flag
there maybe delay a game.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Illegal substitution I think gave guys out huddle.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yeahah, they broke the huddle with twelve so boy, I
mean we had a false start on the first series
and then you have the illegal substitution, and those are
the things you see in week one, Bretto. It doesn't
matter how many practices and scrimmages you have, those are
the type of penalties you're going to get in week one.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
It doesn't make the coaches any happier. They they know
it's coming.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
But that's a tough one there right off the bat.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
So Negate the gain on first down by Harsma add
one more second and eleven from their own forty. Now
after the penalty. Two wide receivers, the right one to
the left. Harsman the backfield short shotgun firing van Lake
out complete and fighting for Extrayatas up the sideline, lowers
the shoulder. He's out across the forty five and dragged
out of bounds the forty nine yard line on the catch.

(08:03):
That time for Hudsonville was lost in Webber senior wide receiver.
So it'll be Webber, Wyatt, van Asen and Braylen Miller.
Miller and Webber seniors. Van Asen a junior getting the
start on the outside as the wide outs. We'll give
you the offensive line after this third down and short
tonight starting linees brought to you by Sporting You you

(08:24):
think it dal Lincoln slot to the right handoff Haarsma
from left to right. Big hit, but he fights going in. Wow,
what a run by Harsman gets the first down. The
first count went high. You can't do that on Harsma
as he broke that tackle across the midfield stripe and
he's into bulldog territory. Pick up a three first and
ten at the BC forty eight.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
When Caiden Myron came in as a substitute linebacker, and boy,
he found out what it's like to try to tackle
Ollwen Harrisma up Hie. That's not like you said, going
to work extra effort there gets in the first down.
If they don't get it, if Myra makes a tackle,
they're punting the football instead.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
They stay on the field.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Six down linemen for BC because they're going double tight end.
Van Lake hands fakes the hand off the harsman now
makes a man miskits to the outside with his speed,
shoved out of bounce, but not before he gets inside
the Bulldog forty.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Five to the forty two yard line. They're to shove
him out.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
With Chase Schwartz, the senior defensive back for the Bulldogs.
But that's the escapability and athleticism you staw it on
display with Brady Van Lake. He was a soccer player,
a soccer phenom in his younger days before he picked
up football in the seventh grade.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Buck Well and athletes always can translate, right, it's teaching
them the actual game. Sometimes that can be easier, but
if you have the athletic ability, it becomes that much simpler.
And Brady Van Lake, we saw it last year the
flashes he had at wide receiver and slide back and
now seeing him play the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Position, also moving up front as the motion man, Weber
was going from left to right. So another penalty going
to go against Hudsonville tonight. Starting last by the way,
brought to you by supporting you. Do you think it?
They'll link it. They have what you need to look
your best. Just ask us creating the custom solution Taylor
to your specific kneed. Find out more at sporting the
letter you dot com. Offensive lineman up front from left

(10:04):
to right, Braden Hanson your left tackle, Luke Wohas is
your left guard only a sophomore. Luke to boor the center,
Neamiah Collier the right guard, and Jacob Whore the big
right tackle, senior number seventy two. Second down in nine
after the penalty, Van Lay cuts it up and he's
got running room inside the forty five found increase close
to that first down mark, and I think he's got

(10:25):
it with the spot inside the Bulldogs forty to the
thirty seventy yard line, I have.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Big, big pick up there and especially off the penalty.
Two early penalties for Hudsonville, they've overcome them both Byron center.
Their penalty cost them a first down and end up
having to punt. So we're seeing early already these mistakes
and how they affect the teams.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Gain of ten on the quarterback keeper by Van Lake
one run a seiver each side, first down and ten.
They work in the middle of field, high snap, but
he controls and tries to pitch it outside, throws off
the timing. Harsma gotta be stacked up by White Jerseys,
just never could get wide. Great job and extending down
the line of scrimmage that time. To blow up that
play was big Aiden Van Damn. He's their senior noseguard

(11:06):
and did a nice job. They move them around a
little bit. Bob is out there as well, but a
great job and then got corner support that time against Tarsma.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Not the greatest snap, but I think Byron Center played
that one very well. Harzma, even if he gets it
in stride, probably wasn't getting a lot, but a great
pursuit there by the Bulldog's.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Defense Miller wide right. They go tight slot to the
right side of the field, working the right hash Van
Lake out of the short Shotgun takes the snaphandoff Harsma
looking for running room. Nice job by Byron Center, gang
tackling as he gets maybe a yard of the thirty
six and that's it. Gonna set up a third down
and nine as we roll under seven thirty left to
go on this opening quarter, Byron Center started with the
football had to point it now. This is Huntsonville's opening drive.

(11:46):
As they're down inside the Bulldog forty at the thirty six.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
That's my favorite, the gray zone, but forty to twenty.
They can't punt the football right. This is two down territory, Brent,
So you don't have to get all nine right here.
You can get six or seven and still try to
get it on fourth down.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Tried and stacked to the right, trips to the left.
Fan Lake wants to throw back to pass nothing but
got some runner him tucks it. You're gonna get to
the outside.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Nice block by his tight end gonna free him and
got a first down down.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Inside the twenty five to the twenty four was Jase
Schwartz again that had to run him on the bounds,
but what a great block on the edge that time
by the tight end. Will de Young had his hands
up to make sure he didn't get called for holding.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
He's like, I'm not holding.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
I'm not doing anything.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
I'm just standing it his way. Please don't flow a flag.
I'd be pleased. But that's a really good job there
of Brady van Lake taking what they give him. He
goes through the progressions and see a lot of kids
they pull it down early.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
They just want to run the football.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Brady van Lake let's that play develop, sees it open
on his left side, and takes it for the first.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Down gain of twelve yards. Slot to the right white
side of the field, handoff and in there. Rotated in
with hars with that time. But he's gonna be stacked up.
Is Wyatt van Asen, the junior running back who they
also use as a wide out.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Good job by the BC defense and you'll see guys
rotating in. But that was Jackson.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Bovia, the big senior defensive lineman. He's a four year
varsity player, Folks. He goes to eighty five. He's a
heavyweight wrestler and you're not gonna move that kid.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
You could have put Treveon Henderson back there. He probably wasn't.
He might have gotten back to the line of scrimmage.
I mean, Byron Center just blew that play up from
the get go. Really good penetration by the defensive line,
loss of two.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Back to the twenty six second and twelve motion man
from left to right, one right, Shuageway, Oh bat snap,
look out here comes Byron Center. A nice job heads
up by Van Lake. Instead of trying to pick it
up and make a play, he realized bomb Beck was
breathing down his neck, just slid on it and covered
it up. That's a heads he played by a senior quarterback.
Back to the thirty nine. Now it's a big loss,
but they've still got the football. I know Brent Sandy

(13:43):
and his coaching staff gotta be happy with that.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Well, they're happy that they still have the football, and
that's probably about it.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
It's gonna be third and a four wood for them.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
And again though they have two plays to make it
so they're in, they're still inside that grey zone between
the forty and the twenty. So you can get ten
to twelve here, you can chunk it off and try
to go for it on fourth down instead of try
and get it on one.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Rip Beckham wide right, Miller inside of him slot. Right now,
they're gonna move Harsma, look out, batsnap again the penalty
flag gonna come out. I just didn't look right.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
I think we've got a legal procedure or false.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
Start, yep fall start against Hutsonville. Their third penalty already,
this drive their opening offensive drive.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Third penalty and a couple of bad snaps and they're
still on the half of the field.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Five twenty four left to go opening quartered Oh score,
Hutsonville is gonna be moved back to the forty four
yard line now third in forever.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
We're gonna have to put the forward in down and
get the three because uh, it didn't get any shorter.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Full wide receiver package into each side. Harsma in the
backfield to the right of Van Lake out of the
shotgun motion demand from left to right now sending him
back to the short side of the field. Van Lake
gets a snap, sets fire's got a man across the middle.
Bigt gotta be short of the first down at the
twenty one he was.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Looking at the wrong stick. You thought he got it.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
But nonetheless a big playing going up and getting the
catch that time as Andrew Meherman, the senior wide out,
makes it manageable. Here they're gonna go for his buck
mentioned but now fourth and sixth, big game through the air,
and how about that strike a little bit high? But
he kind of led his receiver by Van Lake.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
I mean, now, I don't know the range of the
field goalkicker. They're probably a lot closer to it than
they were before. But I think you go for it here.
You got some momentum, and even if you don't, your
defense got to stop on the first drive and you've
got that field position working for you.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
I like this call here, nice game at twenty five
that time through the air. Here we going fourth and six,
Van Lake looking looking now. Coverage breaks down, can be
wrapped up and dropped, and the Bulldog defense is gonna hold.
They get the sack back of the twenty two yard line,
a couple of different guys there but leaving the charge
the defensive line Aiden Van Dam and Ben Leifer. Great

(15:54):
job by the Bulldogs. They got helped out there with
a penalty. So the down and distance against Hudsonville as
this opening quarter being brought to you by Straight Line Fence,
the fencing company Grand Rapids with a personal touch, offering
both residential and commercial fencing projects. Call today for your

five fifty or visit straight line Fences dot com. Beautiful

(16:15):
opening night for football. Those scores. We expected two state
finalists going head to head from a year ago out
of the OK Red and OK Grain. First down in ten,
Whitress back out their hand off Pain left side, and
you know they were trying to scout report against him
all week long as number two. Not much running maybe
back to the line of scrimmage and that's about it

(16:35):
at the twenty one. Give maybe a half yard second
to long nine coming up for bcful.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Got an update from Coopersville. Waddington went down and scored
on their opening drive and the Brooks hadn't returns one
for eighty yards to tie the score over there in Coopersville.
Of course he did. He's their playmaker.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Second down and nine, Whit's hand off Pain trying to
get wide, puts his foot in the ground. Nice cutback
that time across the twenty five out to the twenty
six yard line. Give him a gain of five, will
set up third and five for Mark Cisco and the
Bulldogs up front, Andres Gonzalez is one offensive lineman. Billy
Butler is their fourteen game starter at center. Mark Cisco

(17:17):
given him high praise and highest rated center that we've
had ever since I've been at Byron Center. Ben Leifer
is a junior big fellow six with two forty five,
Owen McGinley a sophomore in that group, and then Jackson
Bovia enough said, senior four year starter five ten, two
eighty five, and he can be nasty. Third down and
five handoff Whitcher's play fake to the outside of the

(17:39):
Jets sweep, then tries to un underneath it Hudsonville. Nice
job defensively stopping him short of the first down at
the twenty eight. So now four down and three st
the Bulldogs two here and they're gonna send out the funtee.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
You've got to kick it here. It's probably tempting to
go for it, especially with the wind in your face.
You're not really getting a huge advantage by kicking the
ball of bread, but boy, it would be very tough.
After you make a big turnover on downs. Finally stopping Hudsonville,
you get the ball back and you go three and out.
So you're gonna have to kick the ball here, and
to kick it this win again.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
High snap Van camp In Scott he's a big kid,
and again and over ran not much higher distance and
Miller going to call for the fair catch and make
it in bulldog territory at the forty seven. He thought
he got interfered with, but that was just a player
running down in such a short Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Yeah, he got interfered with because you ran into him.
That's probably why that happened. You could have just stepped
around him, but you gotta try. I like the effort there,
but I think they could probably just go with the
rugby punt into the wind Brett.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
That's not gonna hurt him.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
I mean, kicking it in like a normal traditional punt
has not really netted them a whole out of yardage,
So I'd probably try the rugby punt if they have
that in the bag.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
So hunts about a good opening drive, but nothing to
show for it. Really killed themselves with some penalties. That's
say what they do on their second offensive opportunity here
two twenty and ticking left the opening quarter andolf Arsma
left side wrapped up and dropped after a short game
forward progress inside the forty five.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
They'll give them the.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Forty four of Byron center gain of three second and
seven coming up. Don't we get to stay with us
for the whole Jeffson Physical Therapy halftime show sited with
our new reporters added to this, We've got seven different
game reporters tonight, but Scott to camp out of the
Moskiking area. He's got Graham Blank and Mona Shores. Then
Remy Monahan, who I worked with at Fox seventeen Sports.
She's up in Rockford.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Buck. That's a good one, Seleina and Rockford. Tommy Carr
getting to start for the Hornets tonight.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Second down and seven, one receiver to the lefts they
go two to the right with a wing back stacked
over the right side. Short fire to the outside, complete
and dropped there at the forty short of the first down.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
On the catch was Weaver. So here we go.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Third down in short again for Hudsonville, who's won the
field position battle. And again there's a strong wind out
of the north year at Eagles Stadium Byron Center, going
right into it this opening quarter. I think they'll be
happy for the final one to wanted to run out
here and get a chance to maybe air it out
a little more offensively.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Well, it'll be interesting to see what Hudsonville does here
because they're probably trying to make it so they can
at least get a couple more plays with that win here,
and they'll probably go for it on fourth if they
don't make.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Wing back stacked the left side. Harsma handoff cuts back
inside the twenty five. That's the explosives we saw a
year ago as a junior niece, all the way down
the big run to the Byron Center nineteen yard line.
Actually they'll give him the eighteen. No, the seventeen yard
line forms here sixteen eighteen Act fifteen. The officials just
kept running down the Sidelin'm like, all right, that looks

(20:34):
good here. Twenty three yard game by the senior. Haarsma
rush for over eight hundred yards a year ago, and
he was that really nice home run heater that kind
of like plan B guy. But boy, if you weren't
ready defensively, he was a different type of runner than
Bryce Fox was their main guy last year.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
Yeah, I mean Bryce Fox very much an elusive back.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
And now, like you said, a little bit more different,
a little different style this year, and boy, I like
how he runs early.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Now they played Harsma and coach Sandy Tucker with this
more on defense last year because he's so strong an athletic.
They said we're not gonna do that as much this
year because he needs to be our horse on offense.
Hand off to Harsma again, trying to cut back. Nothing
doing against the Bulldog defense. Did a better job there,
and they'll give him to the thirteen yard line. So

(21:23):
gain of four sets up second and six final fourteen
seconds of the opening quarter, no score. Hudson Field driving
though in the red zone. Oh bobbling the snap that time,
and it was a good snapman Lake and he was
buried right there is all over him. Defense with that
time for Byron center was Miguel Estrada. Yeah, the five
seven hundred and ninety found defensive end and a senior well.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
I mean other than the bad staff and nobody blocked
the defensive end. It went well, awesome, well third nine,
but they're gonna switch ends here and also now with
that win, Brett boy Field goals Now that range is
severely decreased, so it'll be interesting to see what hudds
and comes up with the brick. We thought it would
be a tight win.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Buck Gino zero zero after one quarter play here at
Eagles Stadium.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
But the Eagles are driving.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
We come back as you're listening to the LMCU High
School football Game of the Week here on ninety six
to one the game.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
To as Bucks Gino mentioned it before we went to break.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
The team switching ends and sides and critical play here
after the fumbled snap and getting stuck for a loss
that time by Van Lake. Third and nine now for Hudsonville,
working from the Byron center seventeen yard line, two wide
receivers to the right.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Tight end and wing backstack to the left.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Van Lake, now looking to the sun, looks over to
the sideline to his left, So I gonna change the
play at last. Scrimmage Armsma in the backfield with him
no score, but Byron center has had to bend a
little bit here because of the field position. Now they'll
get the win at their back. Van Lake takes his snap,
looking to us right, sets fires, got a man wide
open at the five cards.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
It up times with the pilon did he get in?

Speaker 4 (23:03):
He did, touchdown, Hudsonville.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Hauling in that time was lost in Weber.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
They've liked that matchup already tonight and it was Van
Lake to Webber.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
For the score, Hudsonville leads at six to nothing. Well,
I mean, Huts, I mean it's been the Weber, the
Van Lake to Weber show. That's the only three passes
he's thrown that have been completed, all to eleven for Hudsonville.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
And that time he just gets out in space.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
They played a really soft cushion out there. They eat
a lot of room, catches the ball at the five
yard line and his turns and beats the defenders to
the pilone.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Tillotson now the hole the Braylon Miller. Now the left
footer snap is a good one. Tries the extra point
kick is on the way, It is up and it
is good. So opening play of the second quarter and
Hudsonville strikes pay night first here at home. Seven nothing
Hutsonville for Byron Center. Welcome back with mores. You're listening
to a Thursday edition of the LMCU High School Football

(24:05):
Game of the Week. Here on ninety six to one
the game. So Tillington to kick away after the touchdown
by Huntsonville seven nothing, kicks it short with the wind
fielded by one of the up man and he was
buried right across the thirty, but good field position to

(24:27):
the thirty two yard line on the return of that
time Hunter Pulowski, senior linebacker, backup running back for Marc
Cisco and the Bulldogs, so seven to nothing. To recap
that scoring drive by the Eagles. And how about that
third down conversion. It was third in long and it
was Van Lake to Webber for the score.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Six plays, two minutes and twenty eight seconds of time,
third and ten completion from Van Lake to Weber for
seventeen yards out Tillotson pat was good and that puts
the Eagles up to seven to nothing.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
And that's our first touchdown for kids fifty dollars donation
by Lake, Michigan credit into kids food Basket. With every
touchdown during the game of the week, score swinging out
in the flats, bomback who's been effected with his speed,
gets the edge and he's got a first down for
the Bulldogs out to the forty two yard line. Easy
down and out pitch and catch from Whitechers to bombback
senior to junior and they'll move the chains first in

(25:20):
ten BC. Let's see if white Chers and Mark Cisco
with the playbook opens things up with that passing game.
They showed a lot of that in the scrimmage last
week book Geno against Rockford in Central.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Yeah, they've been able to get to the edge pretty
frequently here. I think they're going to try to keep
that theme alive.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
Give to campaign left side, trying to get the edge
on the weak side of the defense there because they
had the receiver stacked to the right side and campaign
stacked up. After a short game to the forty four
of Haunts in Bille, we'll give.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Them to you second and eight. Oh. Last year when
we talked to coach Matt Kozak after their first game, Yeah,
you know one of the players there, GT Counter. Well,
that's I mean, if you want to play a video,
there's gz Counter right there. You're on the campaign to
the backside of the far guard, like you said, the
weak side there and just try to strangle. That's a
really good job by Hudsonville to plug that up and

(26:11):
only give up to their Schwartz and.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Perez and the slot right one receiver left White cheers
on second he want to go.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Over the top, Oh wide open. Oh, he couldn't hang on.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
They had a blown coverage and sneaking out of there
was Perez up the sideline. White Chers maybe with wind
aided behind him, just led him a little bit too far.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
I mean there was no one within what seven eight
yards of it, Buck Gene. If I would have caught
it there, I probably could have got in.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
Oh. I mean, there was just nobody even close to Perez.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
The problem was is that Perez running that wind actually
hurt him because the ball kind of sails on him.
Perez thinking Okay, I'm gonna catch it at the numbers.
That ball hit almost at the sideline. I just don't
think he adjusted quick enough to the wind carrying that ball.
Otherwise that's six.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
The two receivers crossed and he was kind of running
the wheel route out to the outside the Hudson.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
The guys in the back like, no, you were supposed to.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
I had this guy look out which was under the rest,
but get it across the middle.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Complete great open field tackle that time is dropping Chase
Swartz right after he caught it short of the first
down to forty eight.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
Was the safety that time.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Satan Tykstra the senior with a big hit, and that's
gonna set up fourth down. I tell you what, he
breaks that tackle. There weren't a lot of people around.
That was a great open field tackle.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Well, coach Cisco begrudgingly, Yeah, going to send the punk
team out. They have not I think, yes, they have not.
They had one first down. You know what that was
was the first play? Well, huts that it's been it,
that's it.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
Yeah, they've lived on their side of the fifties, said,
do you know what, We're gonna make him earn it.
Let's put our defense out there and see if they
can go eighty yards against it.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
I think that's the right move.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
I do too.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
Down seven to nothing from their own forty eight.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
It's been a busy first half for the punter left
foot and now Van Campen angles. This went towards the sideline.
Better spiral with the wind at his back, and it's
gonna roll down. Nice job to the twenty one yard
So Keaton Van Camping does his job. But how about
the Hudsonville defense coming up with another stop. They lead
at seven to nothing, ten minutes left to go. Exactly

(28:09):
here in the second.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Quarter, when we're waiting to stay with us, Rick Burkey
and the rest of our staff. We got quite a
crew for you.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
In twenty twenty five coming up with scores and more
during the Wholet Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show. You know
tonight's players have worked hard to get their bodies ready
for competition, and Holst Jeffson Physical Therapy wants you to
stay in the game no matter what level of activity
you desire. They get patients in within twenty four to
forty eight hours. Holset Jepson Physical Therapy. They're still added
locations across West Michigan. I can't keep up restoring body,

(28:38):
reviving spirit. First down in ten Hutsonville seven.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Nothing.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
They lead it slot to the left for Van Lake.
Now motion Miller from left to right now sending him back.
Haarsma set up behind him in the short shotgun handoff
Harsma left side stacked up there by a host of bulldogs.
After a gain of just a couple to the twenty
three yard line, it's going to be second and aid.
Good job by that front seven and they've rotated how

(29:04):
many guys they've had on the down line against this
good offensive line that returns for Hudsonville Bugs.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
Yeah, well you're gonna see that, especially in week one
two with guys you don't want to try to go
the distance too early. You've got to break some guys
in for the rotation. Get him some experience. And that's
what they've been doing. One receiver each way, wing backstack
to the left. Hard's been gonna run that way.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Look out, bomb back from the backside comes and makes
this stop.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
No gain for Haarsma. They stop him at the twenty
three yard line.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Let's give credit where credit is due with this defense
for Byron sent other backs have been against the wall.
Cooper Hickson is one defensive end we've talked about, Miguel
Astrad on the other side, Aiden van Dam, he's kind
of the guy that blocks up the middle a long
with Bovia five eleven, two forty then very active linebackers.
They had to replaced two good linebackers from your ago.
But seniors out there and Ethan Parker and Hunter Pulowski,

(29:52):
Chase Schwartz, Parker, Perez, Keaton Van Camp and Owen to
young your defensive backs. And again they'll rotate a lot
of different people in so guys to go too much.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Two ways. Two wide receivers have left.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
They fire that way, hanging on for a first down,
throw us a little bit behind it, but making the
catch and dropping at the thirty four That time it
was Van Lake.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
To guess who number eleven lost and Weber. You had
to look and see who caught the ball. It's been
lost in Webber the entire time. And boy, he's getting
a lot of respect. I mean he's getting a pretty
wide berth there, nobody within a couple of yards of him.
And he makes that catch, sits down in the soft part.
He picks up the first down.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Surprise, that was again a third and long like we
saw on the touchdown pass. Now the fake that time
Harsma Van Lake on his own number and hit hard
and knocked out of bounds by Chase Schwartz. Good collision
there at the thirty three yard. I make that the
thirty eight. Excuse me of Hudsonville. They'll give him a
gain of four second and six clock continues to wind.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Now they do stop it. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
Knocked out of bounds eight to seventeen left to go here,
first half seven nothing hudson.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Toy the first down that they'll reroll it when the
ball was spotted nine out of bounds plays. It's the
only difference now between high school and college is that
they will not restart the clock and when it goes
out of bounds.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Big ten and Will de Young good size number eighty
eight on the right side. As they work from the left,
Hash taking the snap, Van Lake hands off to the
second back, rotating in and right up the middle of
that time, Wyatt van Asen, the junior, trying to find
a little running room, pushes the pile forward to the forty.
But he's gonna be about four yards short. Third and

(31:28):
four now coming up for this Bulldog's defense. Can they
get off the field here and make Hudsonville punt into
the wind from their own territory. By the way, campaign
in it inside linebacker for BC. That's new this year.
He's just too good athlete, too good a size and
physical presence not to play when you can defensively two
wide receivers right one to the left, Van Lake takes

(31:49):
a snap for center. Flush out of the pocker, Will
wins right now pointers receiver to go downfield, running out
of real estate, and pain gonna run him out of bounds.
Oh wow, okay, I to say, official ran way up
to spot it, and I'm like, well, I thought he
knocked him out shy of the marker.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
They did by about a yard. Yeah, I was gonna
say they they they gave him a pretty Yeah it's
gonna be two yards.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
Yeah, they only gave him too.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Well. Van Lake's out there pointing and then he looks.
He's like, oh that we didn't point at that guy. Yeah,
he's running free. I'm gonna get out of bound.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Well that's why you have a campaign in there, right,
because of his speed to stay with Van Lake, who's
very good.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Now, remember Van Lake, they stay in there with the offense.
But he is the punter, yep, a very good punter,
by the way. Well, and the thing with the wind
here too, we saw it with the Byron center. I mean,
punding the football is not gonna give you a whole
lot of advantage. But I think they do that here.
I think they do a quick punt here. He's out
of the shotgun formation.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Oh bat snap, look out, here comes the pressure and
man like just gonna run for his life and run
out of bounds well short of the first down marker.
What a break for best, They're gonna say out at
the Eagles thirty five, they'll get it turnover on downs
first and ten. What a break for BC on the
low snap and we don't know if Fan Lake was
gonna pump that away or not.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Yeah, all that went out the window as soon as
the ball hit the turf. And that's I mean, I
didn't take a lot of math in college, but I
know that's probably four or five bad snaps already, and
that's really kind of taking the tires or the air
out of the tires for Hudsonville. That's a big one there,
fourth down. If you don't want to have one, it's
at that time.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Now motion man handoffkneeling, he's the track speezer, turns the
quarter and he's got running room inside the thirty down
to the twenty eight yard line. There you see the speed.
Connor kneeling. He went to the Nationals in track. This
kid has been a flyer ever since he was coming
up through the system. And there you saw with a
stiff arm, got the edge and a nice pickup there

(33:46):
of six second and four knocked out of bound, stopping
the clock.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Seven fifteen left to go. Second quarter.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
If you're just tuning in a bad snap moments ago
and Van Lake had a run on a bounce, thus
BC starting to drive from the Eagles thirty four trailing
seven to nothing. Trips to the left paint of the backfield.
One receiver right Whichers wants to go in the air,
got deflected and unable, and I think it threw him
off a little bit. Marcella's fans trying to catch that
the flat. If he does, he's gone. I was gonna

(34:13):
say he might be up the sideline for seven, but
someone up front got a hand on Whitcher's path just enough.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
I will tell you though, And I think he would
agree that Marcella's vance hit him in the hands.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
And I know it was tipped. It kind of got
thrown off a little bit there.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
But he boy, he feels like he should have had
that one because, as you said, nothing but field turf
in front of him. It's the second time in the
last two series that we've seen a touchdown go awry
because I just couldn't bring the ball that big third
and four. Here, look at Hudsonville stacking line of scrimmage.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Fake to pain.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
No, they give it to him, got the edge, he's
got the first down.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Put just footing it round and he's down inside the
twenty See where they spot him. Gonna say, knee down
at the twenty yard line, but that's enough for a
first down needed four, got eight first in ten Bulldogs
and they're right there knocking on the door of the
red zone, trailing seven nothing and Buck, you know, I
don't know about you.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
We've had mistakes you expect in week one.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
We've had penalties, but I mean physical defenses, nice play
by the offenses, good running backs. It's kind of what
we expected, right.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
I mean, so far, even though they're winning the football game.
More mistakes on the Hudsonville side.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Campaign now tries to dodge a penetrating defensive player up front,
nowhere to run that time. They stack them up with
a line of scrimmage at the twenty so second down
and Ed.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
You know, like Gabe riansman in there getting the initial
advance and then the rest of his buddies came to
help him. And I mean Campaigns an explosive player, as
we saw in that last run. But just between the tackles, Brett,
it's been I mean, it's been tough sledding for both teams.
It's not it's not glorious work and it's really hard
and it's been tough for both teams.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
They've had their best success outside the tackles for sure.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
Keep an eye on number three Chase Schwartz tight to
the left side. They work from the left. Hash why
is now going to pitch it a pain?

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Oh, he didn't get a clean ball, loose and still
being fought for. Did Hutsonville come up with that? I
think they did. No. Actually, I think they're gonna call
that an incomplete pass because the ball went forward.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Boy, that was close. Whiter's just kind of improvised there.
He realized that campaign was out too wide to do
a handoff. I don't think it was my design. Well, Oh,
did Whits get shot? I mean he got labeled, just
label and I know he has a bit of a
bad back because of an injury from the basketball seam'll see.

(36:35):
I don't mean to make light of it, but it's
probably gonna be more than that because he got absolutely
tattooed legally too, because.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
He didn't get the ball out of his hand.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Brinton, No, that's what I'm saying. At the point of it,
I think, Oh good bye Easton. Whitchers hops up. Tough kid.
He's got to come out for the play because they
did stop there. Unless unless they take a time.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
He can take a time out, correct, but he does
have to at least come out, and I think that's
what they're going to do.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
And I think he was still gonna call a time
out anyway.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Don't you.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
I think it was the defensive penetration ys just kind
of surprise him.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
He kind of froze there, and then he decided, well,
I should probably not hold onto this thing too long
because there's nobody in front of these guys. And then
he luckily he pitched it forward because actually paying where
he took the stamp, it was the correct call. He
was a yard in front of whiters. I'm surprised they
caught it. And eventually it really didn't matter because I

(37:28):
didn't see who came out of the pile, but they
blew it dead pretty quick. So well, a shot at
it and yeah, and then I don't know if they
ended up the campaign getting the ball back, but boy,
a lucky break there kind of for Baron Simon. Your
quarterback just took a tremendous shot. Actually he is going
to remain out. They do have a different quarterback in there.

(37:50):
Bretty Hart said, they take a time out or they
just oh, now, so moving up front, and that's that's
that's a different cadence.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
It's just a different voice coming in to the game.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
Connor Nealan got the early start, so that's gonna back
Byron center of five. But you're right, different quarterback, different
cadence coming into a tough situation here. What was gonna
be a third and ten is now a third and fifteen.
But they're knocking on the door here at the Hutsonville
twenty five trailing seven nothing, and.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
I think too right now where they're at, I believe
this is probably two a play's territory.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
You can get seven to eight here and still go
for it on fourth down.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Now, I will say Coach Cisco spoke very highly of
their kickers, so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't
get anything here.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
They might try the field goal.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Hutsonville showing blitz with a new quarterback and look out
coming from the back side.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Gotta get rid of it, and he doesn't.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
He can't take the sack there, as Mark Cisco will
tell you, but Braddy Hartson did, and it's way back
at the forty. Now they're gonna say the thirty nine
yard line of Hudsonville.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Well, I still think you go for it here, you're
really lost a fourteen on the sack.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
So fourth down and long now they now they're gonna
now Here's the other thing to keep in mind. He's
very confidence quarterbacks. They play two quarterbacks all the way
up through the system because of that. But the punter,
Keaton Van Campen, is a quarterback in the rotation.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
Well, I think it'd be. I don't think they're gonna
throw it out. Just a tough one here because get
a long way. I mean you gotta get twenty eight yards. Yep,
Van Camping, just get a kick it away.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Oh, it's blocked coming through Hudsonville gets the block, ball
still loose at the midfield stripe, gonna go out of
bounds trying to pick it up and take it back.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
To the house.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
That time was the guy who initially blocked it coming
in with Peyton Rodenhouse, the senior linebacker. Is it was
just a low kick that time by Van camp and
he didn't get it off.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
Well, I will say that he doesn't move that quickly.
He's got a little bit of a deliberate approach and Roadenthouse,
I mean again just barely touch comes right through the
middle and he easily blocks that ball, and they're lucky
for Byron Center that he didn't pick the ball up
and run with it. He just couldn't grab a hold
of it like a greased pig out there. And they'll

(40:04):
still get great field position. But it could have been worse.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
We've had some tremendous plays defensively and on special teams.
Tonight still a seven to nothing game.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
I think some maybe smart guys said something about special
teams in the pregame.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Do you remember anybody that said that.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
Faked to Harsmander pressure swinging out and oh, unable to
grab it. He had space after the catch, and I
think it was excited to get going at the forty
two that time and unable to make the catch. Was
will the Young the big tight end? How about Van
Lake under pressure? Bomback was coming on the edge with
a blitz and he had to somehow kind of avoid
him and get it out there quickly. De Young just

(40:38):
couldn't hang on to it.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
I think unless you're lost in Weber, you're gonna go
to the locker room if you're a receiver, and you're
gonna spray pine tart on your glass because I think
he's the only guy that's caught the ball in the
air today.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
Wing backsack to the right now the motion from right
to left. They worked from the right half second down
and ten for the midfield stripe had off Harsba had
a crease, but it closed quickly against this BC defense.
Nice job is coming up off the bottom of the
pile with the hackle that time. Hunter Pilowski the senior linebacker.
Also when they're defensively was kateen Myrin and Agin. They're
gonna rotate a lot of different.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Players in on offense and defense to keep everybody fresh
and also give everybody opportunities. Here it's the first game, yeah,
and I think both coaches would agree that they didn't
have a full set eleven on either side coming into
this game. They had pretty good ideas, but they want
to see some of these guys in live action and
the scrimmages you can only do so much. But now

(41:30):
we're seeing it in the line of fire, and like
you said, a lot of new names and the new
faces out there.

Speaker 1 (41:34):
From the middle of the field slot left Van Lake
on third and six, oh, strip to the football and
I think Byron Center came up with it good pressure
that time, and let's see who's got the recovery for
the Bulldogs.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
It's big number fifty five.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
That's Micah Swaggerty and he's the freshman five eleven, two fifteen.
What a way to start this season. It was another
player that came in though under the pressure. Van Lake
got the ball knocked away from behind and Johnny on
the spot was the freshman Swaggerty.

Speaker 2 (42:04):
I didn't see who got the hand in there, but
Swaggerty just hops on the football. And boy, it's a
tough one for Hudsonville because they could have played a
little field position there. Even if fan Lake goes down
on the sack there, they can punt the football, push
him back and now Byron Center enjoying the field position battle.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
Back in there was Whitchers at quarterback. First down to ten,
Painters left play fake now wants to go over the top,
got it out there and oh out a step, but
again too far for Chase Swartz at the twenty incomplete.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
And I tell you I watched Whitchers in the scrimmage.
Heat can hit that deep ball.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
Byron Center's at a couple opportunities just a little bit
off tonight.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
Well and also the receiver gets just a little bit
of a hand check there coming off the line, throws
the timing off a little bit and then Whicher is
that wind and it's it's really tough to control that ball.
He tried to take a little bit off of it,
but sales again on him and out of rain again.
Behind the defense was Byron center, but they just can't

(43:03):
connect yet.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
Tyler Strick the junior number one on the coverage, Harrison Phillips,
Zydervien and Zatan Dankster we've talked about in that secondary
for Hudsonville. Second down and ten, they'll motion bomb back
from left to right to former trips to the right side.
White was gonna swing it out to him in the flats. Complete,
but a great tackle right after he made the catch

(43:24):
that time for Hudsonville for a short game, that's Harrison Phillips.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Boy, it's a great read by Phillip from the safety spot.

Speaker 2 (43:30):
They clear out. They'd run an inside clear out and
then they run bomb back to the outside and they
get the matchup they want.

Speaker 1 (43:40):
They get the safety.

Speaker 2 (43:41):
It has to come across, but Phillips makes a great read,
saw it early and gets in there and they limit
that to barely to probably one maybe two yards on
the reception.

Speaker 1 (43:53):
Don't forget it's coming up in the halftime show of
our first half scoring summary brought to you by MKD
Funeral Homes, every story, every moment, every day. Now, pretty
simple for Buck you know, seven nothing Huntsville big third
down and eight here for Byron Center.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
Three wide series have left one of the right whitchers fires.

Speaker 1 (44:07):
The middleman complete in eagle territory at the forty two
yard line. Gonna be a couple of yards short as
he makes the connection on the little hook pattern to
the inside the Chase Swartz.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
Well, now they're definitely gonna go for it here brat
to fifty six and counting here they're going to bring
in it looks like they're gonna take the wide receivers
out and let the big boys eat a little bit.
They've got some beef in there coming in for Byron Center.
Thirty three. That's Cayden Myering, who was a linebacker earlier.
They also bring in number nine. I'm sorry, number you

(44:45):
go there, Bainbridge coming back into the lineups.

Speaker 1 (44:48):
Sorry, coach said, he's played like I don't know how
many different positions.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
Well, and what I think Coach Cisco doing here also
is smart. Did you know what that play clock run
all the way down? He's going to take a time
out so if something bad happens, Hudsonville will have less
time to operate with If they have.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
Good field position, time out of the field by Byrons
Center will take it as well. Two twelveth to go
first half. Our score Huntsonville seven Byron Center or nothing.
You're listening to this week one edition of the LMCU
High School Football Game of the Week here on ninety
six to one. The games catch the ninety six won
the game Drive to Ford Field presented by vander Lon

(45:25):
Home Improvement. As we followed the West Miscion area teams
in the MHSA High School Football playoffs.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Slot left one.

Speaker 1 (45:32):
Receiver right is Lee Tongue takes a snap looking back
towards Lee's way across the now touch down.

Speaker 2 (45:37):
Oh, he took a shot, but Isaac Lee.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
Our coverage is being brought to you by Lake Michigan
Credit Union, Fox Motors, Healthcare Associates, Sporting You, Garrett Appliance,
Uptown chiefs Gate, Straight Line Fence, and MKD Funeral Homes.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
Yeah scores and more coming up.

Speaker 1 (46:09):
Live game reports from our game reporters brought to you
by Service Professor coming up with the whole Jepson Physical
thirdy halftime showing all of our in game scoreboard updates
being brought to you by friends with wrapping radios. Our
crew armed again with wrapping radios to give you the
latest information as quick as it happens. And speaking of
quick after this time out fourth and two approaching Byron center.

(46:30):
Now do I see it looks like Whitcher's going out here?
This is interesting. As they huddle up on the far sideline.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
They don't have a number nine out there, not that
I can see.

Speaker 1 (46:41):
Are they gonna go campaign with a direct snap?

Speaker 2 (46:43):
Yeah, they're gonna go a little wildcat.

Speaker 1 (46:45):
Yeah, wildcat on fourth in two something huts and hasn't
seen yet in the game. From the Eagles forty two
one receiver to laf wing back to the right. Here's
pain get a motion bomb back from right to left.
Just gonna take it himself, and why not, He's got
it on the left side.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
Lowers his shoulder.

Speaker 1 (47:02):
At two point fifteen first and ten Byron center, they
say out of bounds at the Eagles thirty five.

Speaker 2 (47:07):
I mean the mystery, a mystery quotion on that was zero.
They're snapping it to two. Two's running the ball. We're
gonna motion to power. I mean, anybody knew that was
going to the left side. But good blocking there on
the left side that line by Byron Center. They seal
the edge just enough for campaign to read that bounce

(47:28):
it a little bit outside and picks up seven.

Speaker 3 (47:31):
Keep the drive moving.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
They move defensive end senior Ryan Auckman, who they were
high on for the Eagles around and this time he
works in the right edge, whits back in their first
and ten throws on the flat, making a man miss,
cuts back inside the twenty five and makes it a
big gain down near the twenty yard line before he's
finally brought down by Rodenhouse, the linebacker. There you saw
the talent of Chase Wartz, the senior wideout, makes a

(47:53):
man miss. Nice cut for a big play first in
ten BC from the Eagles twenty.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
Yard line and single coverage there and if you miss
the tackle gets magnified. Good move there, shifty in space
and then gets another couple of yards turned it upfield.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
Whitcher's out of the pistol handoff going wide turn in
the corner bomb back inside the ten, got a first down.
It's gonna be first in goal BC at the nine.
One thirty four left to go. First half, and they're
trying to tie this thing up or maybe with a
two point conversion take the lead at the break.

Speaker 2 (48:28):
Well, coach Cisco would admonish you and say, well, we've
got to get the six first bread.

Speaker 3 (48:32):
So he's concentrating on that one.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
And I think the Hudsonville defense there starting to feel
it a little bit. Had good field position in the
first quarter, but now have had their backs up against
the wall almost this entire second period.

Speaker 1 (48:45):
Got the sun beaming through now, handoff pain left side
and he has hit and dropped. Great job by the
Hudsonville defensive front, and that was led on the charge
by Luke brod Nicky, the big junior defensive lineman. They're
gonna say, dropped right there for no gain, second and
goal from the nine. And what you're hearing in our
broadcast with all these different names is both Hudsonville Byron

(49:05):
Center have a lot of different kids they can go to,
especially Byron Center.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
You're seeing it in this drive. I mean, I'm just
they're making me read and that's not making me happy.
I gotta find guys all over. But it's good because
you're finding out who's got what against a very good
team in your opponent.

Speaker 1 (49:21):
Vans and Schwartz must slot right.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
White Cher states just snap rolling that way under pressure,
throw it at the end, z out. Oh there was
a pleating flag came out.

Speaker 1 (49:28):
They were getting a little handsy there in the back
against Vans and Whitechers takes another shot as it released
the football. Boy he's limping, slow getting up, and I
mean he's got the tough back situation from the basketball season,
but he is just a tough kid.

Speaker 2 (49:43):
And again nothing I mean thing, and he just has
to get rid of the football. I think the one
thing he's going to take out of this bread is
that his coaches might say, you know, Easton, you don't extend,
you should probably throw it a little sooner. Yeah, because
it's not good when you hold on to the ball,

(50:04):
and that's happened a couple of times now. Now the
interference is gonna bring them half the distance, yep. But
because it's first and it was first and goal or
excuse me, a second goal, there is no automatic first
down because it wasn't the fifteen yard penalty. It has
to be has to get to a first down for
it to be a first down. That's not an automatic

(50:24):
in high school.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Perez wide right, kneeling in motion, handoff Nielan trying to
get the edge. Nothing doing, He's gonna lose yard. It's
a great job of the Hutsonville defense. Awkaman one of
the first guys over there to stack him up for
a loss at the five. He stayed in bound, so
Barbaren said it gonna be forced to take a time out.
Just twenty eight seconds left in the first half. They'll
have one time out remaining. Remember there was one earlier
that Mark Cisco took because he was trying to drain

(50:46):
the clock a little bit in case they didn't make it.

Speaker 2 (50:49):
On fourth down.

Speaker 1 (50:49):
I want to keep it right here, but you know,
because this is what it's all about. So they actually
say he lost two yards. They're gonna go market back
at the six. So it's gonna be third and goal
from the six coming up for Byron center Marc Cisco,
Huddlely's offense around him. Yeah, it's a little.

Speaker 2 (51:04):
Tough spot there. I thought he got to at least
the five but but oi the way, great pursuit by
the Eagle. I want to go to what you said
earlier because this is what we're talking about.

Speaker 1 (51:11):
So if they don't get it here, I expect them,
because they have two very good kickers, to at least
try to get three.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
Would you agree with that? I think you have to here,
And I think it also depends a little bit on
the result of this play. If you're getting it down
to the one yard line, you maybe go for it.
If you don't get any farther, if you just were
looking at fourth and goal from the six, I think
the easy decision is the kicking.

Speaker 1 (51:34):
What about the fact that Hudsonville will start with the
football in the second half, So maybe if you're buying center,
at least get some point.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
Yeah right, I mean you've played a pretty decent half, right,
you know, your offense finally finding some rhythm. You'd hate
to go away empty. But we'll see what coach Cisco does.

Speaker 1 (51:51):
What a first half. Beautiful crowd here standing around Eagles Stadium.
Big third and goal from the six, Whites from the
left ash two wide receivers to the right, one back
of the backfield.

Speaker 2 (52:01):
It is not paying takes his snap gonna go with
a fade.

Speaker 1 (52:04):
Route touchdown pirates center hold into the back of the
end zone that time.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
His favorite target, especially on this drive, Chase Schwartz. Well,
I mean, if you're Hudsonville and you get beat because
pass interference is not an unbag first down, I would
do what that defensive back did. I'd just start grabbing
guys and trying to throw him around. That worst a
three yard penalty. But boy, what a catch there, What
a throw by White. I mean it's a terrific throw

(52:32):
by Whiters. But Chase Swartz just coming down with that ball,
and then due to the defensive back just trying to
maul him there, barely gets.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
His foot in. Dawson Hilliard to kick it blocked on
the extra point though, coming through, boy, no one got
big number fifty and you got a pawn it Grant
Land here, the senior defensive lineman, and so it remains
a one point game. Byron Centers had some woes with
a kicking game for punting and field goal kicker. I
mean they have a good one a Dawson hilliart, but

(53:01):
he didn't have a chance that time to get an off.
Great job by Lanier to make it a seven to
six ball game.

Speaker 2 (53:08):
Some guy said something about special teams earlier. I mean,
that's just two grave errors for Byron Center in the
third phase and could come back to bite them and
missed extra points or blocked extra points, especially as you
get later into the game. Brett, You know, coaches they
don't like chasing points. But in this type of game,

(53:31):
if Byron Centers were going to score the next touchdown,
coach just would have a long and hard conversation with
his coaches about whether they go for two.

Speaker 1 (53:38):
Well, two coaches that really stress special teams are right now.
Hudsonville is winning that battle. They blocked a punt earlier
that we saw and that was Peyton Rodenhouse and there
blocked the extra point to keep the lead by Grant Land.
Here Hilliard to kick it away with the wind at
his back, beautiful kick taking on the fly at the five,

(53:58):
across the ten, fifteen. He gotta crease his miller across
the thirty, trying to cut back still on his feet
and spins out of attack of the forty all the
way out to the forty five yard line. Fourteen seconds
left to work with for the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
First in ten. But what a return that time by
number three senior Braylen Miller. Well, I mean again specialty. Yeah,
you've only got fourteen seconds, but three timeouts for Hudsonville.
The one negative is they're clearly going against that still
strong wind, and so they're gonna they're not gonna be
able to kick a field goal unless they get really close.

(54:34):
In that case, you're probably just gonna go for six.
But they do have some timeouts to play with here,
so you don't have to go straight down the field.
You can throw an intermediate route and they're giving plenty
of cushion there. Bratt trips to the left, one receiver right,
they work for the right.

Speaker 1 (54:47):
Hash Fan Lake, out of the short shotgun takes this
snap rolling to his left, trying to buy some time.
Penalty flag. I think that's gonna be a hold in
the backfield. He'll just run it up the sideline, then
knocked out of bounds by Campaign. But this one's all for.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
Already got the initial signal of a hold against Hutsonville,
and that was way back in the backfield, so they're
gonna move it all the way back.

Speaker 1 (55:07):
How about a forty yard return? Officially, by Braylan Miller.
So hold from the forty, which was five yards by
the line of scrimmage, back them up ten more and
it's gonna be first down and long from their own
thirty yard line. Coming up for Hudsonville, you probably see
something here either either a a very conservative run play
like a draw, or be some sort of hooking ladder

(55:31):
or some other type of play to try to spring
somebody lose.

Speaker 2 (55:35):
I don't think you throw it very far there, just
because it's gonna hang out and they've got four guys
standing thirty five yards off the ball. I mean, if
you're gonna do something, it's gonna be a short pass,
and like I said, maybe a hooking ladder to try
to get somebody.

Speaker 1 (55:48):
Free at the fifty. Should be the final play of
the first half, and he's gonna be dropped and sacked
back inside the thirty. Byron Center just came flying through
that time eight and Van Dam and we'll get the sack.
And that's the way the first half ends. We got
a doozy here between the OK Green and the OK
Red after thirty minutes of football here in Byron, excuse me,

(56:11):
in Hudsonville. Our score the Eagle seven the Bulldog six.
Stay with us the whole Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show
with Rick Burkey and all of our game reporters coming
up next here on ninety six to one.

Speaker 5 (56:23):
The game Right now, we're gonna send you back one
more time here to Hudsonville High School Byron Center and
Hudsonville squared off in a good to one point lead
for the Eagles Red and Buck Wait did to call
the second half. Guys, take it away.

Speaker 1 (56:36):
All right, Thank you, Rick Burkeye, appreciate that, and Buck Gino.
I think in listening to those scores and those reports,
especially with the OK Red teams, it kind of proves
what you and I and the rest of our crew
thought about. Remember we did kind of our preseason top ten,
so you can find at west misteranoksports dot com by
the way, for scores, standings more with not just football,
but all fall sports, winter sports, and spring sports.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
Don Patten and his crew do a great job. He's
also got great high.

Speaker 1 (57:02):
School football previews. I know I was looking at those
this week kind of preparing for this matchup and looking
at the years pass. But make sure you check those
out and they'll be up every Monday night we rechange
our top ten. Then you hear from Jay and I
and the LMCU High School Football Preview as we take
you through our rankings, which next week after Labor Day.
As tradition, in week two, everything moves back towards normal

(57:22):
time slot Thursday nights from six to seven and as
the teams make their way back out of the plane
surface coming out of the locker room, seven to six.
Our score, buck gino. Let's take everyone through. If you're
just tuning in our mkd feunder Holmes first half scoring recap.

Speaker 2 (57:36):
Well, they took it easy on me. Break me in
for this season scoring summer. Well, there's two scores. The
first one was Hudsonville first play of the second quarter
that kept the sixth play, two minute and twenty eight
second drive. Rady Dan Lake, it's a laws and Webber
Tillotson boots the pat and it was seven to nothing.
And then Byron Center finish the quarter with twenty two

(57:58):
seconds left, a nine play, thirty three minute and forty
two second drive wisers the Swarts in the corner for
the touchdown. However, the difference so far a blocked extra
point and now at halftime. As we get ready to
start the second half, hudsonvill leeds seven to six, and.

Speaker 1 (58:18):
We've already raised one hundred dollars. Codes see of LMCU
with their fifty dollars donation per touchdown. They do that
for the Lake Short game of the week as well,
but two scores on the board for twenty twenty five
of that first half, so one hundred dollars going to
the total folks over three years. As we're now in
year four with this campaign, teaming up with LMCU and
Coods Food Basket of West Michigan, eighteen thousand, six hundred

(58:39):
and fifty dollars donated just for football season alone. We
do baskets for kids for basketball season. Thank you so
much to LMCU, and it really takes care of a
lot of kids, nourishing kids right here in the West
Michigan area, sixty two schools strong, So thank you so much,
and thank you to the student athletes that make that
happen by those touchdowns on this week Thursday, but normally

(59:03):
Friday night. So seven to six are score now Hudson
will will start with the football book, you know, let
me kick it back to you for our vanderalin home improvement.
Keys to the second half.

Speaker 3 (59:11):
Well, I think it's pretty obvious. For Hudsonville.

Speaker 2 (59:13):
I think they short circuited themselves the middle of that
offensive line.

Speaker 3 (59:17):
Again, there's been a lot of injuries for them up front.

Speaker 2 (59:20):
They had four returning starters coming into the season, but
two of them are out due to injury, and they
both play in the center of that offensive line, including
the center. The starting center from last year not playing
right now due to injury. So a lot of bad
snaps and that really cost them, eventually contributing to the
touchdown that Byron Center was able to score. But I

(59:43):
think that really for them, that's the key they've got.
They can get that wrapped up. They were pretty good
on offense moving the football, it's just all the backward
yards that kind of hamstrung them. If you're Byron Center,
they need to find a way to get campaign untracked.
What I mean by that is every good run he's
had has been to the left side, outside the tackle.

(01:00:03):
That's it. If he runs to the left and outside
of the tackles, he's had a good game. Everything else
not so good. So they need to find a way
to get him a little bit more on tracked. They
need to get him in the better rhythm. But they've
had a little bit of a tough sled. They really
didn't get going until the last drive of that first half,
Prett and now Hudsonville getting the ball to start the

(01:00:24):
second half gonna put them on ice a little bit.
So they got to hope that their defense can get
the ball back quickly for them and try to try
to stay in that rhythm.

Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
There's your Keys to the second half, brought to you
by Vandalen Home Improvement, Eric Crossbed and thea cur will
take care of you. Eighty years in the business, Vanderalen
Home Improvement offering top notch contractor services to customers in
West Michigan. By the way, he normally works in the
chain game for Holland Christian home games. They're away at
Allendale and the Maroons are winning, so Eric happy about that,
but he is checking out Panthers Stadium West Dottawa hosting

(01:00:54):
Grand Legend watching a game there, and so he's been
kind of a quasi reporter for us and left check
right before the half West out of it leading that
one in a good ball game thirteen to twelve. So
another team to kind of keep your eye on in
the Okay, red all right Byron center set to kick
it off, Dawson Hilliard moving right to left on your radio.
Down so they'll go into the win for this third
quarter and an end over end kick angling towards the

(01:01:18):
right sideline, taking on the fly at the eleven yard line,
making a first man missing the twenty and then comes
back to the.

Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
Middle field still on his feet. Wow, he broke out
of there.

Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
I think they saw another guy go down and I
thought that was him too. Byrant turned his frozen. He
kept running, running him on the return man out across
the field.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Jason, Yeah, to the forty two yard line point.

Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
It was like there was a you know handoff there
where they fake it with the starbars played for Rockford,
except it was oh we thought he was tackled. Coach
first down at ten hudts, I mean, great field position
to start he d.

Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
Guy went down. Yeah, look, I mean they're like, oh,
somebody went down, he probably has the ball. No, he's
just gonna keep running and they're actually pretty fortunate that
they still had had some coverage back there and we're
able to corral him. But another big return for Hudsonville.
I mean they've had two kickoff returns and both have
been out past.

Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
The forty first town and ten. They start to drive
from their own forty two to two wide receivers left,
one right. Van Lake fakes they end up didn't look
like it was by his side, then decides to see
what he can get over the right side, crosses the
forty five and hit and dropped at the forty six
yard line. Van Camping on the tackle from the secondary
for Byron Center, but not after a gain of four

(01:02:27):
by Brady Van Lake, the senior quarterback leading him out
here in the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
Well he was gonna hand the ball, he's well, he's
already up there.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Well, I guess I gotta keep it because I can't
really do anything else, and so got a little bit
of the head. So I think Herzma just kind of
got a little bit excited there and ran ahead of mess.

Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
Point Weber and van Asen in the slot left on
second and six, one receiver right, Van Lake hand off
Haarsma right up the middle and tripped up just short
of the first down marker crosses the fifty to the
forty nine at BC. Nice pick up there and on
the stop that time defensively with Pulaski the lineback. He's
played a will of a game. We've called his name
and number a lot tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
That's tall in stature, but he makes up for it
because he can hit you like a ton of bricks
and boy, he's playing the heck of the game at
middle lineback.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Big play here, third and one, Van Lake out of
the pistol formation. Oh, got some movement. I think it
was Bovia.

Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Great job. They draw him off sides and Jackson he's
a great kid.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
Five. You can't sneak back across the lineup scrimmage. It's
pretty obvious, and he was he knew it. I mean, boy,
that's a tough one there. But really, I mean Byron
center after the first drive penalty free up till that point.
Hudsonville was the one that had the trouble with the
laundry in the first half. But now Byron Center, that's
a tough one because that gives up a first down.

Speaker 1 (01:03:45):
Good job by Van Lake with a cadence kind of
changing up there, and everyone held their water for Hudsonville.
First and ten and off Harisma right over center Bainbridge
there to stop him after a short gain to the
forty two, though, give him a couple second and eight,
like they feel.

Speaker 3 (01:03:58):
Like they ran the same place they're gonna run on
third down there on.

Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
Harsma yet to really have a big breakout run of
this one. Nora's campaign we kind of featured that matchup
with the running backs second and eight as they rotate
people in first half. Scoring summer with Buckchino brought to
you by MKD Funeral Homes eight locations to serve you
across West Michigan, their newest one just down the road
in Jamestown.

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Yeah, he had that twenty three yard run earlier in
the first half that set up the touchdown. But other
than that, it's been tough sledding for Harsma for sure.
I'll give credit to both defenses too. They played well,
been schemed up on stopping these running backs. Motion man
from right to left, faked to Harsma, Van Lake off
his back, fifth rose out in the flats. Complain that
was the motion man and great open field tackle that time.

(01:04:41):
Van Campen was over there on the catch.

Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
For Hudsonville was Austin Eaton, the junior running back, so
third and we'll call it a long three or for
Hudsonville quickly up with the football jeans and the base
here as they've got it at the Byron center thirty
seven yard line.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
Yeah, they run him in motion. What that does is
shifts the coverage over and it put him on the
opposite side. And they had a little bit of the
miscommunication as to who was supposed to grab him, and
by the time they did that, he already had the ball.

Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
In the flat seven six Hutsonville on the move for
the Eagles opening drive of the second half, hand off
Harris but left side got the first out of war
inside the thirty cuss back of the twenty five ainkle
tackle there by Van Camp and otherwise he might have
had six. He's got a first down that to move
the change for the Eagles inside the BC twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
To the twenty three. Oh, there's a healthy fourteen yard
game and Harrismon starting starting to get the engine REVN
Here a little bit you can tell here in the
second half is Hudsonville moving down the field smartly on.

Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
Their first possession, one n receiver each way. Haarsma again
to the left of Van Lake, gets the handoff to
the twenty one crashing down.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
Let's give credit where credit is due, from left to right.
That offensive a front for Byron. Excuse me, Hudsonville, Brayden Hanson,
Luke Wohas, the sophomore did bore the center Collier.

Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
We got a male whole, We got a man down.

Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
I think that is Wohas, the sophomore. See if we
get a number on that, that's that's Luke Wohas. He's
in three serious means that leg. Yeah, he's not doing well. Unfortunately,
hopefully they can get out there and maybe it's hopefully
it's just a cramp for something else.

Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Right, official time out for injury. We'll step aside as well.
Second and eight from the BC twenty one, eight thirty
three left to go on the third our score Hutsonville seven,
Byron Center six.

Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
You listen to it live here on ninety six to
one the game.

Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
Still working on the sophomore offensive lineman on the field
for Hudsonville and some pain Luke wolhas and while we
have a moment, want to remind you we are so
excited to have them back as the title sponsor again.
But the meer Scoreboard Show stick around after we are
done here. Buck Gen know shame. Same for the Lake
Shore Crew if you're listening on one oh seven m

(01:06:54):
us the Moose with our counterparts Jas Nutting and Tom Kent.
But they've got a great Division seven match up tonight
Powama Westphilia at North Muskegan and again you can check
that out one oh seven point nine FM. But then
we all come together once our games are done and
we've got the meer Scoreboard Show.

Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
With Rick Burkey. We try to talk to area head
coaches after their victories.

Speaker 1 (01:07:14):
Maybe some players mixed in there obviously some scores and
the live game reporters at the different locations. So many
good games, but Gino in week one, I mean we
were listening at halftime. Maskegee Graanville's a tight game, Rockford
Saline a good one. I'm looking at tomorrow night. There
are a handful of games. But how about West Catholic
hosted Norfield. Norfield kind of came out of nowhere to

(01:07:35):
win the Oka Block last year.

Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
I am gonna try to get over there. It's kind
of nice, Brett when we have the time to go
watch high school games and we don't have to do
anything but show up. It's kind of nice to be
able to do that from us. Try to get over
there and watch coach Landon Grove and coach Ryan Oshick.
I mean, if you want to talk about two outstanding
high school football coaches locking horns strategically, you're going to

(01:07:59):
be in for retreat tomorrow if you go watch that ballgame.

Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
How about these other ones? South Christian and Grand Upis Christian.
Always traditionally they lay on Friday. We've covered that game
before before Labor Day weekend, and obviously our thoughts and
prayers go out to both communities. With the tragedy of
the South Christian administrator passing away his kids. If you
don't know, the story went to Grand Rapids Christian, so
obviously some heavy hearts in that matchup already a great

(01:08:23):
rivalry tomorrow night at Grand Rapids Christian East Kentwood's at
Southfield East Kentwood. I know you and I both like
Kate Kaufin. If you haven't seen him yet, we have
it in person, head of the Michigan State next year,
the quarterback for the Falcons. I think they're a team
on the rise. And the OK Red you've got Redford
Academy at Zeeland West. You and I were right here
at Eagles Stadium last week watching a great scrimmage. Yet Hudsonville,

(01:08:45):
Zeeland West, East Grand Rapids, and West Catholic all on
the same scrimmage, and we were impressed.

Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
With the Ducks.

Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
I realized that John Schilito era is over. I think
there's some coaches that went against him that are happy
that maybe John is a retirement. We wish to coach
well because that's the way you go out right, you're
right off in the suns after a state championship. But
a lot of the coaching staff remained buck g you know.
So it's very similar, and they've got some kids and
they got some flyers in the backfield.

Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
Again. Yeah, I think if you told me that the
takeaways from that scrimmage we were just here last week,
I would say Zealand West far and away the biggest surprise,
and not because of really how well they played, but
also just how they matched up against these other team.
I mean, they were playing. Now, they did not go
against West Catholic simply because they play in the regular season, right.

Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
Clearly, that doesn't benefit them at all to do so.

Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
As Luke rohas. You can hear the round of applause
as he is coming off the field. Unfortunately at this
time not under his own power, but still he looks.

Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Like he's trying to put some pressure though, So that's
good news on that foot. Yeah, but you're right, he's
getting some help.

Speaker 3 (01:09:46):
Yeah, so he's going to be coming off.

Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
But boys Eland West, I thought, you know, with John
Soda leaving, and you always wonder. I mean, we staw
in East Groand Rapids when coach Sturzma, when Peter went
to Hope. We've seen it countless times where legendary coaches
move on and sometimes there's just it doesn't really have
to do anything with the talent, it's just the fact
that there's somebody different and those assistant coaches.

Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
When you're the head guy, you gotta be the bad guy.

Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
You don't get to be you don't get to be
the friend anymore. And so there's a big dynamic shift.
But I was very impressed with them. We'll see how
they go through the season, but so far, I think
the biggest tayaway from that scrimmage was Zealand West performance.

Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
I agree second and eight now after the injury Huntsville
drive it again, just outside of the red zone at
the Byron Center twenty one, up seven to six. Van
Lake takes a snap. It's a design quarterback keep right side,
not much running room there, lots of white jerseys. He
gets inside the twenty to the nineteen for a gain
of two and it's basically gonna be third in a

(01:10:44):
long five maybe six coming up for Hudsonville.

Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
Wohas.

Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
By the way, we won't speculate, but he was limping
on his right legs, so it appears to be a
right leg injury for him.

Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
Well, he was at left guard, and which way did
they run? Well to the other side because you don't
want to put the guy, I mean, Woalhouse is already
a sophomore being pulled up because of the injury.

Speaker 1 (01:11:03):
Harsma to the right. Van Lake takes the snap, fires
out to the left guess who, and complete for a
first down again. Just too much cushion that time, but
a good throat of the outside shoulder by Van Lake
and he's got his guy lost in Weber again for
another Eagles first down.

Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
Again, just running hard, gets that cushion, makes the separation happen,
sits down He's just running really good outside digs and
man just driving that defensive back away from him and
then just sits down in that soft zone that he
creates and Van Lake putting it right on the money.

Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
Another first down. Now they can get a first down
without scoring.

Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
Here.

Speaker 1 (01:11:41):
They're gonna stack the slot with Miller in the slot
to the left side, short side of the field and
the left hash take the snap fake to Miller underneath
man Lake and oh, we just hit a white wall
of cement and dropped right there at the nine yard line.
Great penetration up front that time by Big number fifty
seven's Andrew Andres Gonzalez, the senior five eleven, two twelve

(01:12:03):
with that defensive front for BC.

Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Yeah, standing him up there at the line, and boy,
it's tough sledding between the tackles all game for both teams.

Speaker 3 (01:12:14):
And I do like there how Hudsonville has taken.

Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
I mean, this is clearly the longest drive of the
football game so far for Hudsonville, taking time off the
clock and really going to work on that BC front.

Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
Second and goal. Actually can get a first down inside
the one, So second and eight from the nine handoff
right side, and again nothing doing. Maybe a yard on
to carry that time, if they want to be nice,
maybe a yard to the eight, big number seventy in
there for BC. We've called his number a lot tonight,

(01:12:48):
and that's Van Damn the defensive noseguard.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
But you just need to see what they give here, Brad,
I think roll they've got me.

Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
They're gonna run up to the trips to the near
side here.

Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
Yeah, it's third and seven from the eighth they can
get inside the one for a first down. Trips right
from the middle of the field, Van Lake and Oh
draws defensive off sides again Byron Center jumping up front
with that hard cadence. You can see him. He just
kind of bobs his head a little bit, but it's
a hard count. And that's twice now on this drive.
They've gotten BC for five yards. In this case it'll

(01:13:20):
be half the distance.

Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
So to the four. Yeah, let's still get some of
It's now instead of third and seven, it's third and three.
So it makes this one a little bit more manageable.
And they come out of that set. Now they've spread
the field out a little bit. I would think that
Herzma might get the ball here and to the left
side of Van Lake. They shuffle them over six fifteen
and ticking left to go.

Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
Now, hard'sman gonna lead blocker Van Lake left side and
stop short of the first down.

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
Good job of the BC.

Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
Defense up bending them at about the two and a
half yard line. He's gonna be at least a yard
and a half away from that first down. Let's see
what Brent, Sandy and Hudsonville decides to do here until
it's not going on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
No, so they're gonna try to go for it here,
They're gonna.

Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
They're to go Yeah, Nope, it's.

Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
Actually we've got an injury down there for BC in
the end.

Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Oh, there isn't.

Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
I'm sorry. I thought there was an equipment problem.

Speaker 2 (01:14:14):
I did too. I thought maybe Hutsonville talk it over.

Speaker 1 (01:14:16):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
This one seems to be a more garden variety cramp,
which is a little bit more relieving for Byron Center.
It's cooling off here, but it was still warm and humid.
The thing is in week one bread. It doesn't matter
the temperature. It's it's just playing a full forty eight
minute football game. You haven't done that if you're an
athlete since at least nine months ago, if not longer.

Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
So it's it's a tough go and we've seen it before.

Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
I think that the temperature going down has been kind
of a blessing because you're not gonna have guys running
out there and the heat and they probably have been
trying to cycle more in if that had been the case.

Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
But for with that matter, they're gonna come back to
the line here.

Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
It was the strong safety that junior will Bombeckho was injured,
so he's gonna have to go wild. They're gonna get
some fluids in him on a crucial fourth and goal
fourth in a little more of the yard from the two.

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
And a half.

Speaker 1 (01:15:08):
Well and walking it in that time to the end zone.
Touchdown Hudsonville. They go a little wildcat there.

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
No, it's Van Lake. It was Van Lake. I mean
it was basically a stacked power eye yep, with the
not going under center. And what happened there was Van
Lake was just gonna run the ball right up the
back of Harzma and then he looked to his right
and he's like, oh, there's nobody standing here. Yeah, I'm
just gonna go over here and score six.

Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
So for two yards out it's Brady Van Lake, the
senior quarterback, taking it in for six, and Tillot said,
we'll trying to tack down the extra point for the Eagle.
Snap is a good one, hold us down, kick is
up on the way and he splits the uprights. So
with five thirty seven left to go into third Hudsonville
has increased their lead till fourteen to six over Byrons Center.

Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
We'll take a time out and come back with more.

Speaker 1 (01:16:03):
As you're listening to a Week one edition of the
LMSCU High School of Football Game of the Week here
on ninety six to one the game. So the opening
offensive drive of the second half for the Eagles leads
to a touchdown and extra point is now hit hard
coming out of just in front of the end zone.

(01:16:25):
He actually took a step back, but they didn't say
he was breaking the plane. And on the return that
time was Connor Nealen and he was hit and dropped
short of the twenty at the sixteen yard line, so
only a return of fifteen first down and ten Byron Center.
As you mentioned, Buck, you know the wind has died down.
They're going into the wind here though in the third quarter.

(01:16:48):
But the Bulldogs trailing by eight with five point thirty
two left to go in the third quarter. Let's see
what the Hudsonville defense does trying to pin their ears
back ere.

Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
Well, this is a big drive for Byron Center. After
that long scoring voyage by the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
That took six in almost a half minutes off of
the third quarter, Campaign runs right side, It runs hard
out to the twenty yard line, so gain of four
gang tackled there second and six and Buck Gill, let's
recap that impressive Eagles scoring.

Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Drop twelve plays, six minutes and twenty three seconds of
game time to lapse, fifty eight yards capped by a
two yard touchdown run from Brady dan Lake. The senior
quarterback Tillotson adds the pat and now the Eagles lead
by eight, fourteen to six.

Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
Seeing some players now come out, I see campaign kind
of hobbling off. You mentioned the cramps. You gotta watch
that in the week one. Still getting their bodies conditioned
to a full game, and especially if the guys going
both ways or even on special teams. Second and six,
two wide receivers to the left, you're running back in
there for paying motion man from right to left Whiers

(01:17:52):
takes a snap, sets fires, got his man oh in traffic,
makes a man miss with the thirty cuts back across
the thirty five spend out of a tackle of forty
all the way out to the forty six yard line.
Having a big night as a wide receiver of the
Bulldogs is number three eight, Chase Swartz.

Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
I mean, that's not really a route that's designing to
make that type of yardage. And I think that's again
the Hudsonville defensive bat comes up and they've had a
couple of misstackles. Now he's cramping up. Well, he's cramping
up and they'll have to bring somebody out to attend
to that. But that time, just another mistackle extends the play.

(01:18:28):
It was gonna be close to a first down, but
then he comes up and again just not making the
tackle at the point of the catch that turns into
a lot of extra yards for Byron. Center gets him
out of that hole and almost out to midfield, but
just almost. I would say probably a good fifteen to
twenty yards after the catch is what he makes.

Speaker 3 (01:18:50):
And you just can't have that if you're Brent Sandy
and the Hudsonville defense.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
You've got to keep those guys in front of you,
And you got to realize sometimes if you're in single coverage,
guess what that means. Everybody else is a single coverage.
There's nobody else an actor to make the tackle. So
you've got to break down. You gotta make sure that
you wrap up and then some guys can rally to
the football. Then you can help get help that way.
But just a little bit too much dip on the

(01:19:16):
chip there, tries to make the big play and ends
up costing it.

Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
Wide slant goes for twenty seven yards. You mentioned Chase
Wartz turn a lot of the work after the catch,
and just like that, Byron Center. Two plays and they're
out to the forty seven yard line and now the
back five Tyron Center offensive line movement starting to get
loud here, buck g you know, four to eleven left
to go, third quarter. I think the crowd sensing on
both sides how big this drive is. Byron Center getting

(01:19:44):
some penalties here, remember that a couple on defense. And
now where Hudsonville was a little sloppier in the first half,
I would say, but now Byron Center kind of.

Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
Kicking themselves a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:19:56):
First in fifteen now backs them up to the forty
two two wide receivers to the right wing, backstack to
the left, campaign back into the right of eastern Whitchers
out of the pistol formation, bomb back back into pain
on the counteraction just carrying would be tackless. Boy, look
like he's gonna be stopped for again about one or two,
and all of a sudden, before you know it, he's
out to the forty four yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
Wow, that's a tough too.

Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
And again a counter coach, Cisco loves to run, especially
with cam Paigne get trying to get back in the
weak side. And good job by Hudsonville staying home, plugging
those gaps and really doing a nice job up front
against that Byron Center offensive line. I mean you run
into the left side. That's that's where the beef is,

(01:20:39):
that's where the the big guys are for Byron Center
with Bovia, and they just did a really nice job there.
And now I'm gonna make it second long bomb back
in motion.

Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
They fake to hit him off the jetsweeve Whitcher's wants
to go over the top wheel route got his man
pain inside the Eagles forty makes the catcher then dragged
down from behind, but not before he gets to the
thirty three yard line.

Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
First in ten BC. Well, another tough coverage actually gonna
amerk him at the thirty two. But boy, you just
kind of get lost there. I mean, I don't know
how you don't account for number two in white, but
he just slips out of the backfield on that wheel
route and he is far ahead of the nearest defender,

(01:21:23):
picks up big yardage.

Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
Twenty four yards. You're right there to the thirty two
of Hutsonville is where they spot him. Big plays on
this drive. First down in ten BC, trying to answer
swing pass out to pain gets.

Speaker 4 (01:21:36):
A nice kickoff blocking up the sideline. Campaign it's on
the fifteen cuts back of the ten. He's down in
the five yard line. Boy, I don't know what's that Bovia.
There someone on the oh on a lake penalty flag
coming out.

Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
There's two penalty flags.

Speaker 2 (01:21:50):
There's one at the thirty five, which I thought was
I think, oh, thrown earlier. I think they somebody kind
of it was there. There was a peel back block. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
The problem was is that.

Speaker 2 (01:22:03):
The defender wasn't he wasn't facing him, and I think
he got him in the back, but then there was
a penalty on the dead ball, So we're gonna have
to start this one out because boy.

Speaker 1 (01:22:12):
That one I thought was close. So I thought maybe
he got but maybe did get the head in front
of the shoulders what you're talking.

Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
About, but you know, I mean the and again we're
way up here. But again from this thing, it looked
like he kind of got hit from the back side.
But the dead ball foul is gonna be Okay, there's
your block in the back after the play was over
on the offense. Wow, maybe I can see the steam

(01:22:46):
from Mark Cisco's headset from here.

Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
Pretty much all the yards they gained on the wheel
route to campaign they just lost in the penalty.

Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
And I think he's probably and I'm I guarantee you,
he's gonna be more upset about that fifteen yard penalty.
I mean, he's talking to the official on the near
side there about the block because because that what that
does is that takes your playyarded away. Yeah, so he's
he's gonna be upset about that. But the unfortunately conduct
after the whistle, I mean, that's just something that he
doesn't he won't he won't have and I know he's he's.

Speaker 3 (01:23:16):
Upset right now with the illegal block call, but.

Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
He's thinking the same thing I am. The player was
trying to like.

Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
Position himself and he gets into the way almost instead
of actually blocking.

Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
Him, just kind of being right, kind of just.

Speaker 1 (01:23:32):
Rub if you will, but as an offensive lineman, not
as a wide receiver. Interference right, Oh, lights are throwing
this one and it's intercepted by Huntsonville never saw him
that time.

Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
And he just jumped the route.

Speaker 1 (01:23:45):
They went back to the well too many times looking
for Chase Swartz, and right there Johnny on the spot
was Satan Dykstra, the senior defensive back for the big
pick for the Eagles. He never saw him, bunchet you
could see looking at Swartz. They thought he was gonna
swing it wide, and Dykestrap perfect read that time where
he's white there.

Speaker 6 (01:24:06):
And there's a smoking hole in the back of the
receiver that he was staring down and he throws it
and he just that's the inexperienced there of Whiters as
a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
He's thinking like a wide receiver.

Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
He's like, oh, he's open, well, yes, but you gotta
wait till he turns around and then by the time
he completes the rout it's too late. And boy, just
a tough series there for byrons in there and only
do you have a big play wiped out by penalty and.

Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
Then it compounds with an interception.

Speaker 1 (01:24:37):
What a momentum shift to this game. First down in Tampa,
the BC twenty six hand off, Marsma nowhere to.

Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
Go, spins out of a tackle, though goes wide. He's
got to running room. It's on the fifteen.

Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
Inside the ten touchdown on Horseba want a run to
his right.

Speaker 1 (01:24:51):
Nowhere the ghost spun away from two defenders and then
nothing but green to his left and he takes it
in for the Eagles score.

Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
It was twenty six.

Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
Yards officially, but more like thirty five forty or how
much yard did he covered there?

Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
Buck Gino? Yeah, it wasn't a straight lion at all.
But Owen Harzma, boy, he kind of started off a
little slow, but he's slowly getting better as this game
has drawn on. Van Asen has spelled him at times.
But Owen Harzma really starting to work into the groove
and you can see it there.

Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
Extra point by Tillotson trying to stay perfect on the
night that he does.

Speaker 2 (01:25:34):
So a big change in events.

Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
Started by the interception by Zatandikstra than a twenty six
yard touchdown run by Owen Harsma, and Hudsonville has opened.

Speaker 2 (01:25:44):
This thing up. Is now they lead it twenty one
to six.

Speaker 1 (01:25:48):
Time out of the field. We'll come back with more
as you're listening to this week one edition of the
LMSU High School Football Game of the Week. Here on
ninety sixty one the gate, so Hudson billing to make turnover.
They capitalize and they're on. Harsman run in twenty six
yards for the score. Tack on the extra point and

(01:26:11):
now Tillotson has kicked it into the end zone, so
an automatic touchback Byron Center will try to regroup your
first in ten from their own twenty. This third quarter
being brought to you by Kids Food Basket, our official
nonprofit again this year for the LMCU High School Football
Game of the Week. Every touchdown score during our games
of the week, both the Lakeshore game and this one
a fifty dollars generous donation by lms to Kids Food

(01:26:32):
Basket to nouris local kids who reach their full potential
and now we're up to four touchdowns, so two hundred
dollars raised already here in the twenty twenty five season,
White's back at quarterback has to shake off the ist
trying to go wide. Nothing doing that time they stack
them up for a loss. Eagles defense great penetration back
at the sixteen yard line as they stack up Connor Neale.

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Well boy, I mean if you could, have you ever
been dry? And then remember when you're in driver's training
and then the teacher just like absolutely hammered the break
because you weren't supposed to do something right. That is
what happened to Byron Center's momentum. I mean they were
going down the field and paying a big reception, and
all of a sudden we have twenty five yards and penalties,

(01:27:16):
and then Whiters throws an interception, and then the next
play on Haarsma tastes it to the house and it
went from a one score game threatening to be a
tie game, to now a fifteen point game with Byron
Center feeling the pressure. Four wide receiver set here trips
to the left.

Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
White's pump fait going up top, got Swartz out there
single coverage and knocked away Oh late penalty.

Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
Fly can't believe it. I can't either. By Dystra, they
say he got a little handsy.

Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Before the ball got there.

Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
The reason that he's getting that flag thrown on is
because he never turns to look at the ball, right.
That's the problem. It's not really the contact as much
as the fact that he's not playing the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:27:54):
That's where the flag comes.

Speaker 1 (01:27:55):
In so big to bailout Byron's center, the White Chers
looking for a single coverage pass interference against the Eagles,
will bring it out to the thirty one yard line,
fifty eight seconds left to go. With this third quarter,
it's twenty one to six now, Hudsonville opening things up
on their border war battle here with Byron center out

(01:28:20):
of the ok Green.

Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
It's amazing that they share a part of the border.

Speaker 5 (01:28:25):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
I mean, isn't that a school district wise?

Speaker 1 (01:28:27):
And they haven't played a lot because it's been a
difference in enrollment quite a bit. Right handoff pay right side,
trying to cut it up at the thirty one yard line.
Not much room there against the Eagles defense to the
thirty two. And this defense has played well. We're talking
about Aukman, wrote Nicky reinzmu Van der Wall and Rodoso

(01:28:49):
up front. You've done a great job.

Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
I mean, the story of the game is that campaign
who we saw really kind of come of age last
year as he progressed through the year and into the playoffs,
just a beast. They have really contained him offensively tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:29:07):
Don't forget to stay with us for the discount door
post game show once we're done. We love our J
and H Family Store. Highlight of the game. Uptown cheapskate
player the game as well. Whiteer's low snap going over
the top.

Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
Paid beautiful pass over the shoulder.

Speaker 1 (01:29:21):
He's got an Eagles territory, rambling inside the thirty five
to the thirty one yard line, making the touchdowns. Saving
tackle that ton from behind was Peyton Rodenhouse, the senior linebacker.
But you can see what coach Cisco is doing. We
talked about the athleticism and speed of pain. He loves
that matchup against the linebacker.

Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
Well, there was a flag thrown, but that's just going
to be a decline to penalty because it was going
to be passing, interference, holding, whatever it wasn't it was
didn't matter. You could have called it a personal foul.
I mean it was going to be declined. It wouldn't
matter what they threw the flag for.

Speaker 1 (01:30:02):
Doesn't this look similar though, Bucks, You know, here we
go again Byron Center driving and they're not gonna get
this one off before the third quarter ends as we
reach triple zeros on the big jumbo tron here, but Byron.

Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
Center on the move.

Speaker 1 (01:30:14):
The Bulldogs really need to come up with some points
here on this scoring drive as we'll come back with
the start of the fourth and the good news for
BC fans, even though it's calmed down a little bit,
they will have the win at their back for that
passing game in the fourth quarter after three Here at
Eagles Stadium, it's Huntsonville.

Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
Twenty one Byron Center six back with mores.

one up in Whitehall Unity Christian forty to fourteen over

(01:31:15):
the White Kings at halftime. Bug. You know, remember they
surprised everybody in one a very deep, okay goal. Last
year ran the table.

Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
I mean, Craig Tibby is a tremendous man and a
tremendous coach, so I didn't really think that they would
be They wouldn't have a big fall off, but there's
just a lot of mysteries surrounding them. And Whitehall had
some really good young athletes, but Tony Segman didn't admit
that they were a little young. But coach Craig Tibby
brought his team to play and they are dominating right now.

Speaker 1 (01:31:45):
Aiden Fergus has split wide left on first and ten.
White Cher's short drop sets fires got his man to
the near side, complete good open field tackle that time,
and that was the corner Junior Tyler strick again.

Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
They go the way of number three.

Speaker 1 (01:31:58):
Chase Swartz, who leads him receiving tonight with catches gain
of just a couple second and eight just on the
way in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
By the way, Rapid Radio's back with.

Speaker 3 (01:32:18):
I'm sure that's why they invented it.

Speaker 2 (01:32:20):
It wasn't for emergencies or people dying. It was so
we could get updated scores from a crust West Michigan.

Speaker 1 (01:32:27):
Parker Perez has been kind of quiet. Number twelve out
wide and inside handoff that time they faked it to Pain.

Speaker 2 (01:32:34):
That was a quick hitter. No, they did the old
double hand, the old Ralph mntin.

Speaker 1 (01:32:38):
Oh yeah right.

Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
It was campaign and it was Tate Bainbridge. Give it
back the other way, yep. Number six, So give it
to Pain and he hands it to Neeland and didn't
get very far though we got to have seven. Great execution.
The running backs run so tight in there, and you
kind of lose from a defensive tackling perspective, especially the

(01:32:59):
defense to front seven who has the football well, almost
like a wing T type. I mean, it's like you
get the flow going one way, and all of a sudden,
it's completely the other.

Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
It's basically just a really ornate counterplay.

Speaker 1 (01:33:11):
Game of just one third down and long swing on
the flats, campaign cuts back, makes some MSS of twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
It's on the fifteen.

Speaker 1 (01:33:17):
It's out of ten, five touchdown, damn pain, little swing
pass out to number two or we can get him
the football. He's gonna be your go to guy. And
just like that, Byron Center makes it a nine point game,
twenty one to twelve with ten twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
Six left to go into contest, and what are they
gonna do here? Will they kick it?

Speaker 5 (01:33:37):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:33:38):
Two?

Speaker 2 (01:33:38):
You have to kick it here because if you miss
the two point opportunity, that's still a two store games.
You have to kick here to make it a one
score game. Then you have to go for two. If
you were able to get to a spot where you're
trying to tie it.

Speaker 1 (01:33:51):
Dawson Hilliard trying to make it a one score game.
Snap is down. Every got one blocked earlier, but that
one he got good height on up and good we
got a one score game. Eight point advantage ten twenty
six left to go in the fourth year at Eagles Stadium.
Our score Hudsonville twenty one Byron Center thirteen and you're

(01:34:11):
listening to it live. You're on Naughty six to one.
The game, Dawnson.

Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
Hilliard gets a leggat show the wind at his back.

Speaker 1 (01:34:20):
Heel is on the fly at the three and across
the fifteen hit and dropped short of the twenty yard line.
That time was Braylan Miller and the Bulldogs fired up
after that last touchdown. Will recamp the Bulldogs scoring drive
in a minute, But I want to talk about Dawson
Hilliard got that extra point. Also those kickoff duties. He's
a four year kicker in the program for the Fireman

(01:34:40):
Center now with Senior and they have another one they're
excited about who actually kicked last year as a freshman
when Huet was banged up a little bit in Parker Wiggins. So,
I mean, you want to talk about depth of all positions,
even a kicker.

Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
Is that very often that you have one really good
kicker at the high school rank, but then you have
two really good ones.

Speaker 1 (01:34:58):
So Brady van Lake and to the offense, oh Low
snap goes to his legs and again, as we saw
earlier in the game, heads up just slides and recovers it,
but back at about the eight yard line of Huttsville.
So that's gonna be a big loss. And now perfect
timing for the Byron Center defense here.

Speaker 3 (01:35:17):
I think that one is almost more on Van Lake.

Speaker 2 (01:35:19):
I mean, yes, it was low, but I mean when
it goes between your legs, I mean you've you got
to try to get your body in front of it there.
And it didn't look like that bad of a snap,
to be honest, but no, it didn't like roll back
to it just low, but it went through his legs
and thus a big loss.

Speaker 1 (01:35:38):
Low snap again handles this one from his own goal line,
looking looking downfield, trying to buy some time, being flushed
out of the pocket, just throws across the middle.

Speaker 2 (01:35:45):
Oh had a man, but he couldn't hang on.

Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
It's always dangerous from your throat late across the middle,
but there was a man there at the twenty seven
incomplete though, when Byron Center got a break there, Carter.

Speaker 2 (01:35:58):
Beckham oh Man just stare in his hands wondering how
that hole got there. Great throwby Fanly, I mean that's
a tremendous play by Brady Van Lake extending to the sideline,
dodging tiptoeing on the sideline and just throws a strike
and Beckham just extends and could not bring it down.

Speaker 1 (01:36:17):
Third and twenty one. They lost eleven yards on that
bad snap back inside their own ten. Two wide receivers left,
one to the right, Van Lake Harsman now sends in
motion to the flat left side, Gonna throw across the middle,
dangerous to Miller, and he's got it complete on the
slant across the fifteen, made a man miss as he
was catching it out near the twenty yard line, which
is the original line of scrimmage. They'll mark it just shy.

(01:36:40):
So now fourth down and ten and out comes the
punt team four Hudsonville. So the Byron center defense holds
and they're gonna get pretty good field position here unless
something crazy happens. Is back deep to field that is
Chase swartz Well.

Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
The one thing that's changed, obviously, the wind has died down,
So punting the football in this direction now is far
west is a risky proposition as they get some late
guys out there.

Speaker 1 (01:37:02):
Yeah, they got to hurry up a little bit here
fourth in a long nine. They're gonna kick it away
from inside his tent. Is Brady fan Lake the punter.

Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
Oh hi, snap, and this one's gonna go out of
the back of the end zone. Safety Byron Center gets
to two points now to make it twenty one fifteen,
and they're gonna get the ball back.

Speaker 1 (01:37:23):
Oh wow, that one wasn't even close. That was air
mailed Brady man Lake team. He almost he's gonna fly.
I mean he just watched it go over his head.

Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
But did you realize he almost snapped that out of
the end zone on the fly, right, I mean that
wasn't close. Wow, What a turn of events.

Speaker 1 (01:37:42):
What a crazy game here in a week when we've
had some tremendous special teams playing Buck. I know you
were the guy who said special teams, but we've seen
airs as well as positive plays on both sides now
to make this an interesting ballgame.

Speaker 2 (01:37:55):
Well, the two point conversion that Byron Tenner thought they
are gonna have to maybe try that one's out the
window now and with a touchdown and an extra point
can actually pull ahead and they get the ball back.

Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
Now, Why we have an opportunity here because, like I said,
Hudsonville will decide whether they're gonna kick it or punt
it to Byron Center after this safety to make it
a six point game. Let's do our wing goosey fan
of the game once again. We've got the twenty five
dollars gift card to have the best wings in town.
It's one right here in Hudsonville Wing Doozy. Just be
caller six right now to our studio lines six one six, four, five,

(01:38:32):
four thirty seven seventy six. Join will be taking your
phone calls six one, six, four five four thirty seven
seventy six.

Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
Caller six right now will announce where.

Speaker 1 (01:38:42):
You're listing from and who you are with our wing
Doozy fan of the game coming up in our post
game show.

Speaker 3 (01:38:48):
It's like they're gonna kick the ball from the tee
rather than the punt.

Speaker 1 (01:38:51):
Well, Tillotson's got a leg. We've seen that. But he'll
be going also against a mild win now, not like
it was. Just start the game by any means. The
left foot are set to approach, they'll kick it from
their own twenty so again. Great field positions should be
for Byron Center angle into the far sideline.

Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
They're gonna let this go on a bounce oh Man,
a penalty flag.

Speaker 1 (01:39:14):
And Brent Sandy and the Eagles coaching staff not gonna
be happy with that.

Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
Boy. Special team's airs have been crazy tonight. Well, in
the first half it was Byron Center and in the
second half Hudsonville with two really bad special teams play
is clearly one stamping out of the end zone for points,
but now kicking it out of bounds, and because it's
from the twenty, I was just gonna say, this'll be

(01:39:39):
you'll end. I think it's gonna end up on the
Hudsonville forty.

Speaker 1 (01:39:41):
Five, and I think that's what Mark Cisco and everyone
we're going through. You don't see this very often. For
the efficiency crew give him credit.

Speaker 2 (01:39:48):
To kick the twenty five yards from where it was kicked.

Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
So that's how they determined it. Since it was kicked
at the twenty, it's twenty five yards. So they're gonna
start this dry buck Gino first in ten from the
Eagles forty five yard line, strilling by just six now
with eight thirty nine left to go.

Speaker 2 (01:40:09):
Boy, we had some good ones last year, Parker, but
what a way to start Week one.

Speaker 1 (01:40:13):
Dvanced by the way the lone wide receiver to the
near sign Whiters in a quarterback, four wide receivers left
empty back to the round him. See what the Bulldogs
is signed to do here. Whitress takes a snap in
the pocket, sets fires across the middle and making his
catch on his knee, so you automatically down there on
the ground that time. Was Aiden Ferguson, the five to

(01:40:34):
eleven senior on hundred and seventy pounds backup.

Speaker 2 (01:40:36):
Split in well I was trying to Campaign was the
far receiver out wide and he was manned up against
the cornerback who was almost twenty yards off the line
of scrimmage. Thought they might go to him again, but
instead they go to the underneath rout and pick up seven.

Speaker 1 (01:40:53):
Perez and Ferguson now form a slot to the white
side of the field, wide handoff Campaign to the short side,
trying to square his shoulders, du and diving for that
first down market.

Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
Do they give it to him? It's close at the.

Speaker 1 (01:41:04):
Thirty five, Yeah, they're going to give it to him. There,
great effort by number two Campaign Bloy. Don't you feel
he's starting to take over this game? I mean that
last one the twenty seven yard catch out of the
backfield to the score.

Speaker 2 (01:41:14):
I mean it's going to be probably more through the
air for him. I mean, the running game clearly is
where they want him to shine. But he's been great
out of the backfield, making a couple of big catches,
including a touchdown. And I have to check it. I
think he has his receiving yards and his rushing yards
have to be very close together.

Speaker 1 (01:41:34):
Hey, anyway, you can get number two to the football
right for Mark Cisco in company, first down to ten,
fake to pain Whites wanted to throw. Now throws late
across the middle, too tall for Bainbridge on the crossing
route and luckily falls.

Speaker 2 (01:41:46):
To the turf incomplete.

Speaker 1 (01:41:48):
The Dangers throw across the middle stops the clock with
seven to fifty three left to go. If you're just
tuning in campaign, twenty seven yard touchdown catch as he
worked as we up the sideline, making a couple guys
miss they get the point. Then a safety on a
bad snap over the head of Brady van Lake for
Hudsonville and out of the back of the uendzoned results
in two points. Now Byron Center on this possession, getting

(01:42:10):
it back trying to take advantage second and ten, they
work from the Eagles thirty five.

Speaker 2 (01:42:15):
Well, this one they've they've gotta gotta keep the drive
going here because with seven fifty three they don't want
to give Hudson Fille the ball back too much, too
much time, and they have to use their timeouts.

Speaker 1 (01:42:28):
Hand off paint over the right side. Not much running room.
Good job closing quickly that time. Harrison Phillips the safety
to hit him after a short gain to the thirty
three pick up of two. Third and eight and congratulations, congratulations,
excuse me. A wing dooozy fan of the game for
week one, Teresa.

Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
Lewis abdoor just down the road.

Speaker 1 (01:42:50):
I don't know if she'd be considered a Byron Center
fan or a Hudsonville fan.

Speaker 2 (01:42:53):
That could go either way. I mean, like you said,
they bored her, so it could be either one. Maybe
she's on the west side of the door.

Speaker 1 (01:43:01):
Maybe a Huts fan there. Third and eight.

Speaker 2 (01:43:04):
Thanks for listening, Teresa.

Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
Congratulations you got a twenty five dollars gift gondo wing
doozy white chist out of the short shot. Good four
wide receivers to the left, tight bunch of three and
that one's chipped in incomplete the line of scrima. It's
good pressure for that time, coming up and getting a
hand on at that time on the edge they had
the blitz on was number seven for a Hudsonville. That's

(01:43:26):
Will Mandrin.

Speaker 2 (01:43:27):
Yeah, he's come off the edge a couple of times.
They like to send him as a late defensive black
blitz and that time he came off the edge and
good job of getting his hands up there and tipping
the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
And I think you've got to go for it here.
I for you, Mercancisco punk doesn't do anything.

Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
You're not gonna kick a field You're not kicking a
fifty yard field goal, so you're kind of your hands
are kind of tied here in this spot. Which I
also failed to mention this is that that was two
play territory. If they didn't get it there, they were
certainly going to go for it on this play.

Speaker 1 (01:43:58):
Now, vance came on late, but it wasn't substitution situation.
They were just a man liked he's gonna be the
lone wide receiver on the line of scripts to the rights,
fourth and eight, barking out the signals, whitcher sets fires,
got his man got to get to the sticks. I
don't think Dah did not. I think is a yard
short at the twenty six. Oh, you gotta run that

(01:44:20):
route a little farther. Good job by Whitcher's good grab
over there.

Speaker 2 (01:44:23):
I think it was sports but a great open field
tackle to stop him.

Speaker 1 (01:44:27):
Short.

Speaker 2 (01:44:27):
Turnover on down Spotsonville get the football back by a
yard man just and I don't know if he was
if he cut it short, if he just kind of
ran to prescribe to one and thought, oh, I'm gonna
get the first down if I just turn a field.
But just that's a tough one because he was open.
He just had to take one more step forward, he

(01:44:49):
still would have been opened, and then he would have
got the first down.

Speaker 3 (01:44:52):
But a big tackle, Hey, Hudsonville.

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
The defensive bags have had some mistackles all game, and
when they needed one there they came up big. They
stop him short.

Speaker 1 (01:45:00):
I think it was number five Will Zeidervin making the
stop there. He got the high fives. Nice job by
Will one yard short, So turnover on downs, Hutsonville gets
it back. Dodges a bullet first in ten from their
own twenty six. They got to get the offense moving though,
two wide receivers left one to the right, high snap
handled by Van Lake, handoff hars But they're gonna go
back on the ground game and nice job of making

(01:45:23):
men miss dancing across the thirty after the thirty four
yard line, stacked up their nice gate of eight on
first down. That's in some breathing room.

Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
That's the guy that you got to have.

Speaker 3 (01:45:34):
With the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:45:35):
I mean, I know Van Lake's been doing a great job,
but number fourteen is the man that if you're a
Hudsonville fan, that you want toting the rock. And you
can see why there. He's gotten better as the game
has gone on. Brett there with an eight yard run,
but you can see what he brought to the table,
just the shiftiness in between the tackles, making guys miss
and getting that good eight yard game on first down.

Speaker 1 (01:45:58):
Third and two for the thirty four in motion right
to left handoff, Harsma backed up fighting off tackles, but
it's too many white jerseys, doesn't get back to line
of scrimmage, and so now it's third down and short
short lost a yard of the thirty three. By the way,
our wing Doosey fan of the game brought to you

Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
Oh Man, the banana and the tailpipe.

Speaker 1 (01:46:34):
Yep, Jackson Bob jumping off the sides again. That's three defensive.

Speaker 2 (01:46:39):
Off sides in the second half alone for Byron Center.
I mean it's it's unfortunate for Byron Center because they
that's every time it's happened. It's been on third down.
Yeah every time. Yeah, every time it's created a first
down on a critical third down conversion attempt.

Speaker 1 (01:47:00):
Or boy, there's some miscommunication going on here for Hudsonville.
They got all their wide receiver crew and their running
backs looking over trying to get the signal. They're getting
late with this call. They might have to burn a
time out here. Both teams with three timeouts five eighteen
and ticking left to go. They don't. They're going to
try and hurry up first and ten from their own
thirty nine two wide receivers to the right wing back
to the left of the off defensive line, handoff Haarsma,

(01:47:24):
and they use that wing back as a lead blocker
over the right side, gets across the forty to the
forty two for a gain of three second and seven
o'clock continues to whind four fifty eight in ticking left
to go Hudsonville buy six twenty one to fifteen over
Byron center.

Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
Checking in for the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (01:47:41):
Wyatt van Asen, the junior YEP Harrisman is going to
get a quick breather. I want to make sure he
doesn't cramp up. We've had a lot of cramping, especially
on the Byron center side in this second half.

Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
Well, how good is the Meyer scoreboards?

Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
You're going to be with some of these finals here
tracking these scores in the second half. Stay with us
after we are done here at Eagles Stadium. One wide
receiver right one to the left wing back in motion
now comes back to the left, handoff over the left
side and van Ayson forward progress to the forty five
and then shove back there. Pretty good defense by Byron

(01:48:17):
center and leaving the charge that time. We've called his
name quite a bit tonight. Was number thirty three.

Speaker 2 (01:48:21):
Kayden Myron all a nice game though by van Asen.
He gets three there and it looks like he's gonna
stay out for third down. And if I'm Brent Sandy
and a lot of people probably wouldn't like that if
I were trying to call the play, I think I'm
gonna have Brady van Lake handle the ball here. Yep,
I think I'm gonna make my big star here. Keep

(01:48:41):
an eye a number eleven. He's in the slot lost
in Weber to the right here.

Speaker 3 (01:48:45):
Frend Sandy's gonna call a timeout.

Speaker 2 (01:48:48):
It's gonna be the first time out by either team
in his second half. And the thing is, I mean, yeah,
you do stop the clock, but this is a big
one here. You got to make sure everything's right. Then
I like to call there.

Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
Time out of the field. We'll step aside as well.
Twenty one to fifteen Hudsonville Buy six. Welcome back with more.

Their hospital walls. Third down and four after the timeout,
looks like they're going with a full house package here
in the backfield. Two wingbacks to lead the way for
Bretty Vanlake along with Harsbay. They run left side, got
the first down of that second surge, had to get
to the midfield stripe in did needed four, got five

(01:50:01):
first in ten freshoon of downs for the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (01:50:04):
Well, I knew that they wanted to go with Van Lake,
and then they got the time out. And that puts
some doubt in the minds of Byron Senator because Harrisman
coming back in now you have to account for him,
Not that you didn't for Van Ason, but clearly Owen
Harrisman the starting back. You gotta make sure you're aware
of him. And then Brady van Lake just runs power
student body left and picked up a first down.

Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
That's a big one. Keeps the clock running.

Speaker 1 (01:50:27):
Harsma out now on first in tent for the midfield stripe,
Van Lake for the pistol formation with a back deep
behind him.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Well, he's just gonna let the play clock get all
the way down before they even start.

Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
Cisco gonna start to, i think, manage the clock with
his own timeouts. Hand off Van Ayson over the right side, yep,
and gain maybe a yard now, Mark Cisco gonna burn
a time out. Bainbridge in there defensively on the stop
for Byron's center. Guys, a little slower getting up on
the carry that time was Van Ayson. Give them to

(01:51:00):
the forty nine even.

Speaker 2 (01:51:01):
Though they've cycled in a lot of different bodies, and
doesn't mean it's been any less physical front. I mean
there's some guys definitely going to hit the hot tub tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:51:12):
A very.

Speaker 2 (01:51:14):
Physical game up front for both teams, and I've liked
both teams defensively this game.

Speaker 1 (01:51:20):
Bread, don't forget to stay with us before we hand
you off. To the Meer Scoreboard Show with Rick Burkey,

Speaker 2 (01:51:46):
I've got one of our first finals of the night. Now,
I'm not going to ruin it because Scott DeCamp is
the new guy in the block and we don't want
to steal.

Speaker 1 (01:51:53):
This thunder in the first week on the job.

Speaker 2 (01:51:56):
But I'm going to tell you that you're probably gonna
be a little bit surprised about the result out at
mona show.

Speaker 1 (01:52:01):
Oh, stay tuned for that coming up. Also, Buck, in
that Discount Door postgame show. I hope you've been paying attention.
It might be easy on both sides with some of
the talent we've seen tonight, but you've got to select
our uptown cheapskate player of the game coming up. I
will tell you this, there's still plenty of votes to
be had. Yeah, I was gonna say, still, you have
to be thrown on the outcome too right, second down

(01:52:23):
and nine, two fifty nine left to go after Byron
Center burned their first time out, two wide receivers to
the right for Van Lake, one to the left out
of the pistol formation, takes a snap, just gonna run
left Byron Center.

Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
All over that campaign, they're all ballpop lose. But I
think he was down on the ford all well. If
he wasn't down, his forward progress rarely stopped. Coach Cisco
trying to lobby that it wasn't. But it's kind of
hard when you're moving faster backward than you have forward
all night.

Speaker 1 (01:52:53):
Colton Bombeck, junior defensive end, also went there on the stop.
No gain for Van Lake, So no third down to
nine Byron Central another time out.

Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
This is an interesting call here because you've got third down.
You know that Byron Center has one time out left. Yep,
you'd love to make him use it, but you've got
two forty nine. I'm not advocating for a pass per se,
but I think maybe you can get a little bit
out of the bag with a run play, maybe an
end a round or a jet something that you haven't

(01:53:23):
really shown that you got in the bag. And even
if you don't get the first down, get you some
yardage and really just got to play that field position game.
And then byron center's gonna have a best one time
out to go all the way down the field with
maybe two minutes to go.

Speaker 1 (01:53:38):
Well, the other thing gotta be thinking about too, is
I Maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe I'm getting too much
in the mind of the center, but when a center
has to pass block and think about the snap trouble
they've had trying to get to Van Lake compared to
just you know, a simple run, I think it calms
it down a little bit. Yeah, and you keep it safe, yes,
let's face it. I mean Hudsonville hasn't done themselves any favors.

Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
No, And I would say all and again, we don't
know so some of the players because they never happened.
But I would have hazard. I guess that most of
the bad snaps came on what we're supposed to be
pass plays, because.

Speaker 1 (01:54:07):
Usually you got a guy over at the top of
you right, you're thinking, as a center, I gotta get
a good snap off quickly, and that.

Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Guy's usually Jackson Bovia. I wouldn't I try to get
the ball in my hand pretty quick too, trying to
deal with him.

Speaker 1 (01:54:17):
By the way, five down linemen for Byron Center on
third and nine, three wide receivers to the right, the
wide side of the field for Hudsonville. Hars was back
into the backfield to the left of Van Lake. Let's
see if they go short side here, but Byron center
five guys down in the three point stance they're coming after,
it'd be going wide too, tight end stack to the

(01:54:38):
left side. Man Lake wants to throw under some pressure,
floats out avoids the pocket throwing down the middle, got
a man.

Speaker 2 (01:54:45):
Out there's complain at the.

Speaker 4 (01:54:48):
Ten yard line and walking into the end zone.

Speaker 1 (01:54:52):
It was lost and wever just over the outstretched hand
of the defender. I think it was man camp And
who was trying to.

Speaker 2 (01:54:58):
Get back there and look like he might have a
shot with his size and right there to haul it.

Speaker 1 (01:55:04):
And he came back to the football. Guess who number
eleven lost?

Speaker 2 (01:55:08):
And Webber. I'll coach Sandy and his staff. They have
significantly more gumption than I would have in that situation.
How about Man Lake? I mean, and I was the
whole time. As soon as he scrambled out to the right,
my only thought was, don't throw an incomplete pass, keep
the clock running, make them use their time out if
you have to. But then he spots Weber behind the

(01:55:29):
defense and Brady van Lake with a tremendous play. I
mean it's only week one, but that one is gonna
go down to the plays of the year, especially in
the situation, Brett. I mean it's a one score game, yep,
and your coach is telling you, hey, if we got
to have this because we can't throw an interception here

(01:55:50):
and we can't really stop the clock, we've got to
make something happen. And well, Brady Van Lake got the message.
A tremendous athletic play by Brady van Lake and he
is this game away.

Speaker 1 (01:56:01):
I'm telling you that didn't miss Van Campen's fingertips by much.
How about the concentration, because a lot of times that situation,
he knew it was the last guy back there. If
he just makes the catch, it's gonna be a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (01:56:13):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:56:13):
How many times do you see the wide receiver not
completely concentrate or they just rush it and they dropped.

Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
The you're thinking, I got a touchdown as soon as
it hits my hand right and I mean Weber, he's
been as sure handed as everybody else, as anybody else
in this game, he's been clearly the favorite target for
Brady Van Lake and boy, second touchdown catch of the huge,
huge play by Brady Van Lake. I didn't think they

(01:56:40):
were gonna Not only did I not think they were
gonna pass. I didn't think they were gonna do something
like that. I thought, as soon as he sprinted out, maybe, oh,
we're just gonna run him into the wide side of
the field and just try to pick up.

Speaker 3 (01:56:50):
As much yardage as we can.

Speaker 2 (01:56:52):
But boy, what a just a very nervy call by
the Hudsonville coaching staff, and it pays off and.

Speaker 1 (01:57:01):
For Van Campbell and the Byron Center secondary. As soon
as he scramble modes and goes to his right right,
you're thinking, I got to come up and try to
run support because he's not going to throw the football.
And then he does harsmut offset to the right of
Van Lake out of the pistol formation, two hundred sivers left.
They're going for two here, tried to make it a
fourteen point game, rolls to his left rows.

Speaker 2 (01:57:21):
To Miller get a foot down. No made the catch
when he was out of the.

Speaker 1 (01:57:24):
Back of the end zone. Incomplete, so it remains a
twelve point game.

Speaker 2 (01:57:29):
Two point thirty five lefting on this one. Don't touch
your radio dial.

Speaker 1 (01:57:32):
It's Hutsonville twenty seven Byron Center fifteen and we are
live from Eagles Stadium on this Thursday night right here
on ninety six to.

Speaker 2 (01:57:40):

Back in the Studies, we're getting geared up for the
Meyer High School Scoreboard show with scores, updates, stats, interviews,
everything we're getting rocked up. But before we sent it
back for the final, a couple of minutes of our
game of the week. Here's some finals. Caledonia shuts out
Holy Names of Windsor, Canada thirty six to nothing. Jennison
over Kalamuzu Central twenty eight to seven, Wild win at
Rockford tonight, back and forth. Eventually the visiting Selene Hornets

(01:58:37):
win it over Rockford Rams thirty seven to twenty eight.
Selene Saint John's b Hamilton to Night twenty two to fourteen.
In Monashores tonight. Grand Blank comes in as the visitor
and they beat Monashores in the Home of the Sailors
thirty five to twenty. Reverberation threw off the River City's
Alliance Conference tonight because Lowell spotted East Grand Rapids a

(01:58:58):
seven to nothing lead and then came back with forty
unanswered final score Lowell forty East Grand Rapids seven and
Belding over I on you tonight sixty three to seven.

Speaker 2 (01:59:06):
Again.

Speaker 5 (01:59:07):
We got the Myer Scoreboard show coming up shortly. Guys
finishing up yours and we'll be back with all the
scores and highlights and reports.

Speaker 1 (01:59:13):
All right, Thank you, Rick, Keep an eye on the
Black Knights of Belding. I watched them in the Coopersville scrimmage.
You remember Buck.

Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
They dropped down to Division six this year, Belding, and
MANI gonna make some noise, I think, and remember, I
think was that a game last year that they lost
to I own you. I want to Yes, they did.
They did. It was the first game that I so.
That was a big yeah, big eye opener. Everybody was like, wow,
they what's going on here? They put up sixty three
against the Bulldogs tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:59:38):
First down in ten after it was a short kick
by design by Tillotson, and Pulowski just did what he
could to get out across the twenty by to the
twenty six. Now they throw it complete to sports to
the far side of the field. Had to go down
to make the catch, so down at the thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:59:52):
And if I know Monny as I think I do,
I'm pretty sure he was reminding them of the score
all week.

Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
This week he toing into that. He told me at
the scrimmage. I'm not supposed to say anything, but he
told me. I think they're pretty excited. They got some
big kids on the offensive line up top Whitchers throws
the double coverage incomplete, looking for Parker Perez on the
sideline route, stops the clock with one fifty seven left
to go.

Speaker 2 (02:00:17):
So twenty seven to fifteen. Let's recap when we get
a chance.

Speaker 1 (02:00:20):
But you know that scoring drive for the Eagles because
it was a big one to make this a two
score game, and Byron Center just one time out remaining.
Same for Hudsonville. Here, third down in six coming up
for the Bulldogs from their own thirty.

Speaker 2 (02:00:32):
Yeah eight plays, four minutes and twenty seconds, seventy four yards,
the bulk of which covered on that third down touchdown
pass from Brady Van Lake to Weber. Second of the game,
twenty seven to fifteen.

Speaker 1 (02:00:45):
Crossing route Swartz opening the thirty five run room to
run after the Cats crossed the forty got the Bulldogs
first down to the forty five. Good composure by Whitchers.
Now I'm going to run the two minute drill here. Well,
I think we figured out cheaps kate offensive players. I'm
just gonna say, just want to let everybody know that

(02:01:06):
brought to you by friends in Uptown. Chiefs Gate trips
to the left, firing back to the white complete and oh,
a big hard hitting the secondary after he made the
catch at the fifty. Hauling in for Byron Center was
Troy or Vine, the senior wide out.

Speaker 3 (02:01:23):
As Byron Center starts to move here and their last gas.

Speaker 2 (02:01:26):
Attempt, I think a lot to build on for them,
even though they're gonna go start the season zero to one.
I think a lot of positives for them. Oh, absolutely,
and things seems to work on obviously. But boy, Byron
Center and Hudsonville, all that was advertised tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:01:39):
Second out of five White Chris throws short incomplete by
the way Stifusen out of the secondary. That big hit
for Hudsonville on that last play. And think about this,
I mean landon Tongate when you look at the numbers
and that was going through them, I mean over three
thousand yards of offense, forty nine touchdowns. He count voice

(02:02:00):
gonna have a great career, I think, going to play
for Sparking Macunity Dwnport University. But you look at that
senior class and a lot of multi year varsity guys,
Isaac Lee, Kellen Payne comes back to baseball Star tong Gate.

Speaker 2 (02:02:11):
We're missing guys on the line, I mean, and not.

Speaker 1 (02:02:14):
That Hudsonville didn't lose people too, but Byron Centater lost
a tremendous senior class YEP third down and five white
chers back to pass again under some pressure, flushed out
of the pocket, rolling to his left, trying to throw
back against the grain as a right handed throw and
incomplete good jomb by the Eagle stops o'clock with fifty
six seconds left. That'll bring up fourth down. Now last

(02:02:36):
chance here for BC. By the way, buck Gino. Looking
forward to next week, We're heading to Husky.

Speaker 2 (02:02:41):
Country, your backyard for Still's Northern hosting Jennison, and it
looks like both those teams are gonna be one to
zero heading into that contest. Great coaching matchup. Two Well,
I mean it was a barn burner at Northern and
I'm not going to ruin that one either. Some late
developments in that one. Damer will tell about that one.
But boy, I think both teams they're playing Kenawa tonight,

(02:03:05):
both those teams I think have some potential.

Speaker 1 (02:03:08):
Eddie Astapo for Forest Hills Northern Josh Lucas and year
two for Genesion coming back home and now case Schwartz
looked at for an interference call nothing doing, and that
should do it.

Speaker 2 (02:03:17):
In can play, tried to go over the top, did
White chess? We're gonna have a there's gonna be a
roughing the passer huts ell.

Speaker 1 (02:03:26):
Brent Sandy was going down. Did youre on his defensive
back with good covers? I don't think he saw behind
the play. Oh, they roughed Whitchers and that gives Pirns
Center new life. You just gotta be more discipline than
if you're Hudsonville.

Speaker 2 (02:03:40):
Yeah, I mean, I mean whitters Is taking a beat.
Was just saying, what a tough kid. I mean, a
couple of them because he held on to the ball
just a little bit too long. That one he clearly
did not. And that one, like you said, just kind
of a an undisciplined play there with being late in
the ballgame. Is it going to change the result? Probably not.

(02:04:02):
But if you're Brent Sandy, you can't be happy with
that at all.

Speaker 1 (02:04:07):
Four wide receivers set free to the left, one to
the right on first and ten from the Hudsonville thirty five.

Speaker 2 (02:04:12):
For Whitchers, they're bouncing around defensively.

Speaker 1 (02:04:15):
Now they motion paint out of the backfield.

Speaker 2 (02:04:16):
Whites one to his left throwing across incomplete looking for Swartz.

Speaker 1 (02:04:20):
If it coverage that time by the outside secondary man,
that's Tyler Strick, that junior number one for the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (02:04:53):
A win in week one in a battle of state
finalists from a year ago, Hudsonville and Division Ie Byron
Center Division two second down and ten from the Hudsonville
thirty five twenty seven to fifteen.

Speaker 2 (02:05:06):
Hutsonville by twelve whitchers out of the shotgun, sets fires,
delivers a dart and it's complete at the twenty nine
yard line driven back there, but those spot is forward
progress that we're stopping the clock here. Er fine with
the catch, oh Byron Sentaen's calling the time out they had.

Speaker 1 (02:05:25):
One day, they had one left discount door postgame show
coming up and then we'll get to the minor scoreboard
show with Rick and the crew. I know they're chomping
at the bit. We got some great finals to bring
your way. I will pass this final along though, just
because we had touched on earlier. It is official up
in Whitehall, Bucchino. Remember last year they started doing this
early and we're like, okay, Unity Christian fifty five, Whitehall fourteen.

Speaker 3 (02:05:50):
Yeah, I mean, well that kind of puts to bed.
But we thought, you know, we didn't know much about unity.

Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
We do now see, didn't know to expect. But boy,
Greg Tibby just weaves the magic again. Stick around for
the final score of this one with Rick and the crew.
They've got a great.

Speaker 1 (02:06:08):
One going on at Panthers Stadium, West Donawa. Eric Grassman
checking in, it's thirty twenty seven grand Ledge with three
twenty seven left to go on that one in regulation.

Speaker 2 (02:06:18):
So grand Ledge by three over Westadawa. Down the road.

Speaker 1 (02:06:23):
Third and four. Meanwhile, back here Byron Center taking a
lot of time with this last time out, thirty eight
seconds left to go twenty seven to fifteen Hudsonville. But
Byron Center knocking on the door here at the Eagles
twenty nine yard line. Boy, what great matchups a week one.
I'm looking forward to not only Big ten teams in

(02:06:44):
action by the time we get home to night buck
Gino with the Lake games, but then Michigan State at
Spartan Stadium tomorrow. Check that out, A big one on
one point three of them on your radio. Down here
in Grand Rapids, third down and four Whitcher sets fires
across the middle, got paid touchdown Tyron Center from twenty
nine yards on it Pain just hobbles into the back

(02:07:05):
of the end zone. He's fighting off a cramp, but
his second receiving touchdown for the talented junior.

Speaker 2 (02:07:11):
How about Whitchers with the over the top ball, I
mean campaign out of the backfield or even split wide
has been a force for Byron Center tonight, and I'm
thinking you're gonna see a lot more of that as
the year goes on. If you're a Byron Center bulldog supporter.
But a great throw there by Whitchers and who've got

(02:07:33):
a man? Is that cam that went down with the
cramp there? Yeah, I don't think he made it back
out of the end zone. So they're working on campaign.

Speaker 1 (02:07:45):
It is a cramp situation with thirty two seconds left,
kicking team is out for BC, so they'll try.

Speaker 2 (02:07:51):
To make it a five point game.

Speaker 3 (02:07:52):
Yeah, going for two here doesn't rap you.

Speaker 1 (02:07:55):
Dawson Hilliard and Buck and I were talking about as
they start to file out, maybe a little too early
because an onside kick is coming, you know, at Eagles
Stadium for VC, but Jennison at Forest Hill's Northern Back
to our traditional Friday night next week is our LMCU
game of the week right here on ninety six to one, the.

Speaker 2 (02:08:12):
Game Wildcats and Huskies six o'clock with the Jends Family
storees pregame show right here on ninety six to one.

Speaker 1 (02:08:19):
The game snap is down and she pushed it left.
No good bye, Dawson Hilliard out of the hold of
van camping and so hold the phone here. Not done yet,
we'll keep it right here by the way. Cruz getting
ready for the Meer scoreboard show coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:08:39):
Yeah, Rick's getting worked into a ladder. We just we're
just gonna let him go. We don't need to we
don't need to get him any more excited than he
already is.

Speaker 3 (02:08:45):
So we'll just keep it here.

Speaker 1 (02:08:46):
Yep. Twenty seven twenty one is the story here. Thirty
two seconds left, so you know the on side kick
is coming. We've got the discount door postgame show coming up.
We're getting ready for that, partner, and we'll keep it
in a debreviated one because we do want to get
out with those scores and those game reporters were standing by.

Speaker 3 (02:09:04):
I mean, we've got it. We're loaded for bear tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
I mean, we've got a lot of reporters at some
pretty good football games, and we're not done here yet.
We've got one.

Speaker 3 (02:09:14):
We've got a good one brewing here, partner.

Speaker 2 (02:09:15):
And by the way, if you're listing here in the stadium,
you're not going.

Speaker 1 (02:09:19):
Anywhere anyways, because we can see the traffic going out
their bung you know, as they're starting to file out.

Speaker 2 (02:09:24):
Might you might as well just stayed and watch the
whole thing.

Speaker 1 (02:09:27):
Dawson Hilliard on the tee. On Sidekick is on hands
team is out there for Hudsonville as they've got ten
of their eleven right there, stacked and fifty.

Speaker 2 (02:09:40):
Sandy's gonna call it time Coach. Andy's gonna call a
time out here, and uh, he's telling the guy that's deep.
He's trying to get everybody realigned. He's not making it.
I guess he's Oh, they are going to come to
the sideline. He was just gonna get one guy or
moved or wherever you want.

Speaker 1 (02:09:54):
I don't think he liked that big gap in the middle.
There was a big cap in the middle. Bear well,
I mean you got the time out right, go ahead
and use it. You're not gonna you don't need it.
You don't get to take it home, so might as
well use it there again. Scores and more coming up.
We do now have a final in West Dono. A
grand Ledge coming over from the Capitol City pulled it out.

(02:10:16):
The comments get it done over the Panthers in a
will of the game. Thirty to twenty seven are thanks

Speaker 1 (02:10:52):
By the way, congratulations, Rick is the onside kick right
to a hudsonvillegal wisely hops on it at the mid
stripe and that.

Speaker 2 (02:11:00):
Should just about do it. On the recovery that time
was Luke Brod Nicky on the handsome how about that
for a defensive lineman for the junior That loud gust
of wind that you heard was the exhalation of the
Hudsonville faithful as bride. Nicky will salt this one away, man, Yeah,
I mean a great first game for us. We got

(02:11:24):
all We got all the things that we wanted to
see and more out of both of these teams. And
the best thing about week one is you get to
take all the things that you did wrong and work
on them. That's usually the best improvement. You don't know
how you're gonna look against another team. And for forty
eight minutes and you find that out.

Speaker 1 (02:11:39):
Break it into new quarterbacks, I mean quarterbacks that have
played as man Lake takes his snap out of the
pistol formation, goes to one knee Byron Center can't stop it.

Speaker 2 (02:11:47):
And that's gonna do it. And look at the hugs
and handshakes of appreciation.

Speaker 1 (02:11:52):
Two teams that went to ford Field a year ago
and now it goes finally week one, but it was
a dogfight on both sides and Hudsonville wins it at
home here at the Eagles Stateum over Byrons.

Speaker 2 (02:12:03):
Center, twenty seven, twenty one, the final.

Speaker 1 (02:12:06):
We're gonna take a short break, come back with an
abbreviated discount door postgame show. Then we'll get you out
to the fire scoreboard show with the one and only

door postgame show. Looking forward to that rick. What a doozy,
and it wasn't finished until really the final half minute
in this one, as Hudsonville improves to one to zero
Byron Center drops to all one. In our Battle of
State finalists from a year ago twenty seven twenty one,
the final the Discount Door postgame show brought to you

(02:13:40):

before we hand out some awards for our offensive defensive
players of the game, let's do a final scoring summary recap.
We'll bounce around with the big highlights here. It's brought
to you by our friends at MKD Funeral Homes.

Speaker 2 (02:14:07):
Well, the first half pretty easy, two scores one aside
Hudsonville with a touchdown Fan Lake to Weber and BC
Whitchers the Swarts. The difference really the only difference in
the first half the blocked extra point and that gave
Hudsonville the seven to six lead at the break. The
Hudsonville coming in on their first drive out of the
locker room, going twelve plays fifty eight yards, taking up
over half the quarter. Van Lake with a two yard

(02:14:29):
TD run. Then Hudsonville added on after a big swing
where there was a penalty that wiped a bunch of
yardageoff and then an interception. We'll get to that one too,
twenty one to six, and he kind of felt like
that might have been the ballgame, but Byron Center said,
hold the phone, we're still here. They score a touchdown
campaign his first receiving touchdown of the game twenty one

(02:14:51):
to thirteen, and then a safety as the ball snapped
out of the end zone on a punt that made
the score twenty one to fifteen. But then Byron Center
could not hold off the Eagles. A Van Lake to
Weber forty nine yard touchdown pass made the score twenty
seven to fifteen, and then a late last gasp as
campaigned the second receiving touchdown of the game that made

(02:15:13):
the score our final twenty seven to twenty one in
favor of Hudsonville.

Speaker 1 (02:15:17):
Great Week one ballgame wrapping up, and that's our MKD
Funeral Homes Finals scoring summary, brought to you by MKD
Funeral Homes. For more information about pre planning, pricing, or
to find the location near you, go to MKD Funeral Home.
That's singular dot com. I gave those eight locations in
West Michigan to serve you well. Book, Geno, I'm going
to go right back to you with tonight's Uptown Cheapsgate

(02:15:38):
offensive player of the game. Certainly we had a lot
of different highlights on the offensive side of the ball,
but there was one guy that just kept catching the
ball to night for the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (02:15:47):
I mean, it's hard to throw a guy who had
three touchdown passes under the bus and running back that
had two receiving touchdowns and had to cramp up on
the second one, didn't know if he was gonna make it.
But boy, I tell you lost and Weber for Hudsonville
number eleven. I think maybe him and Brady Van Lake

(02:16:07):
even throw play catch in their sleep because it feels
like they are just on the same wavelength at all times,
including that player that you're gonna get to. Just a
really good effort by loss and Weber, and he is
the sure handed receiver that Brady van Lake needs and
he can go to when he's in trouble. And so

(02:16:28):
for that in his two touchdown catches, very critical touchdown
catches tonight number eleven loss and Weber is our Uptown
chieps Gate offensive player of the game.

Speaker 1 (02:16:37):
Oh, he's loved to see that for seniors and they
love going shopping, and that's what he's gonna do it.
Either the Granville or Kent with location Uptown Chiefs get
our player of the game tonight loss and Weber of
Hudsonville scoring that twenty five dollars gift card. Congratulations to him. Well,
you know what, Johnny on the spot with that, Let's
go to our J and H Family Stores. Highlight of
the game because you mentioned it, but you know, featuring
Laws and Weber. So the third down and long situation

(02:16:58):
still in the balance with this game, what's Brent, Sandy
and Hudson We're gonna do. Well, They're gonna go to
their senior quarterback, Brady Van Laken. Let him make a play.
Here's how it sounded a rub, kind of a rub,
if you will, but as an offensive lineman, not as
a wide receiver. Interference right, Oh, Lightsers throwing this one
and it's intercepted by Huntsonville never saw him that time,

(02:17:23):
and he just jumped the route. They went back to
the well too many times looking for Chase Swartz, and
right there, Johnny on the spot was Satan Dykstra, the
senior defensive back for the big pick.

Speaker 2 (02:17:33):
For the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (02:17:34):
All right, so there's our J and H Family Stores
highlight of the game. We were going with the forty
nine yard touchdown catch. But you know what, that's a
good lead in because I'll get to Zaydendikester in a minute.
Our J and H Family Stores Highlight of the game,
brought to you by Jan's Family Stores. Stop in on
your way out to your games on Friday night or
on your way home, with sixty plus locations across Michigan
to serve you, J and H Family Stores. And that's

(02:17:56):
all right, Johnny, because zaydan Dykstra, number fifteen, senior defensive back.
He was our Mantel Construction defensive player the game with
that big interception you heard there, that really turned the
tide of this game.

Speaker 2 (02:18:08):
It was kind of going in favor of the Bulldogs
at that point. Yeah, I mean, we were gonna talk
about him anyway, why not just give a preview of why. Yeah,
that was kind of the big swing. It was a
fourteen to six ball game and then Byron Center was driving.
They had a big play at the campaign on the
pass that went down, they were inside the five, but
then there was a block in the back that was

(02:18:29):
called at the line of scrimmage and then a dead
ball unsportsably conduct foul on Byron Center. So twenty five
totaly yards of penalties, pushing Byron Center back into their
own territory. And then after that, Whiiters throws an interception
right to Zeytan Dykstra and gives Hudsonville the short field
and then allows Owen Harsman to take it in for

(02:18:50):
his second touchdown excuse me, his first touchdown of the game.
And that blew the game wide open at that point,
and we thought, boy, this one might get ugly. It didn't,
but that was a huge swing, big turn of events
that ended up really kind of being the difference for
the Eagles tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:19:10):
So another senior for Hudsonville and Brent Sandy.

Speaker 2 (02:19:13):
Winning an award Number fifteen Zaydan Dankstra, our defensive player
