Speaker 1 (00:04):
All right, the captains have met at midfield. West Catholic
won the toss. Defer to the second half of Zeeland.
West will start with the football and that leads me running.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
To my partners.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Keys to the contest, and I brought to you by
Vandal on Home Improvement.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I'd just like to know before we get to that,
the key to the first game is remember your cleats.
This is the first game that we have done with
a natural surface. Seems odd to say, but in twenty
twenty five, Yeah, you're gonna have to play on natural grass,
which these teams do not do a lot well. West
Cathy does is their field, but is DeLand West. They
don't get to do that very much, so they have
(00:37):
to be adjusting to that a little bit. If you're
Zealand West, though, you have to really do what you
do best. That's control of the clock, keep the ball
out of greedy Augustin's hand. For West Catholic, what they
have to do is they have to get the ducks
behind the sticks. That's the key to beating this team
in this system, doesn't matter who's coaching it. If you
can get them in the second and third and long,
you've got a better chance at success.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Good kicker for West calf Land and Smith Angles. It
hits at the five, but away from the two deep,
and it rolls into.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
The end zone automatic touchback.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
There's Tonight's Keys to the Contest brought to you by
Vandalion Home Improvement with the one and only Buck Gino
and with eighty years in the business. Vandalione Home Improvement
offers topnotch contractor services to customers in West Michigan called
six one, six sixty six, nine eleven eleven. More details
of his Vandalions dot com, Well Zeeland and.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
West to come out. We know what they're gonna do.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Even though John Shilleto is retired, certainly an influence on
this staff and doing a great job at his first year.
Jeff Bullhouse who is on staff under John, and they've
kept most of that staff back. They're led by their
quarterback only a junior, Drew Albrick, and he's a guy
who can throw the footballs, you know, Buck Gino. They
tend to throw it a little bit more than maybe
they have in the past. Straight T formation double ten
(01:46):
end set on first in ten from their own twenty
hand off to the full back leaping over the line
and diving forward picking up four out of the twenty
four yard line. Is a very athletic running back. Now
he doesn't have that fullback build. He's only a junior,
but we watched him with the scrimmage, and this kid
is a home run hitter, two way starter Nico mung Kun.
Remember that he also plays outside linebacker defensively for the Ducks.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
I don't have to hit home runs, but pounding the
singles up the middle is just fine too.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
And that's what Nico is able to bring to this offense.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
And you always have one tough, physical runner when you
have a Zealand West team, and Nico is for sure
that one this year.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
And there's always Holman's Parker Homan remember hem, Well, his
younger brother, Brandon Holman right on que gets to carry
the junior the left half back over the right side,
and he found increasing close to that first down mark round.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
To the thirty yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
By the way, speaking of natural brass, I walked across
on purpose from where we parked here to night Bucks,
you know, just to check it, you know what, with
the weather conditions.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Beautiful shape for weak nanny. You kidding me?
Speaker 1 (02:48):
With all the play that this field gets in plenty
of rain this week and that will help and the
temperate conditions, like you said, beautiful night for football, beautiful
surface and shouldn't be too much problem with the footing.
Holman did pick up the first down right at the
thirty first and ten. Now they go with kind of
a wildcat formation and mung Koon now that's Homan on
(03:09):
the direct snap. They have two guys back there, all
Brick as well the quarterback, but they can snap into
either one kind of like that single wing. Look you
talk about bud Gino and that time it was directly
two homemen. He can throw it a little bit too,
so a gain of five over the left side this
time out to the thirty five and see in the west.
A few more tricks in their bag under coach bull House.
(03:30):
Not that John Stilitou didn't have too many. I don't
want to credit the Hall of Famer, but just some
different things, some different wrinkles.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
That everyone has well.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
And I think what it does also for coach bull
Houses allows him to use the athletes that he has.
They have a lot of talents, and yes they're going
to run the system that they normally go with, but
just that little wrinkle makes teams have to take an
extra step to prepare.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Now, handoff to Holman from all Brick from left to
right as they went on the pistol formation, and two
backs up to block over that right side gain of
three third and a short two coming up. They spot
him at the thirty eight yard line, just underway here
no score nine to forty two and rolling left to go.
Zealand West and West Cathock doing battle in this week
nine finale.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Well, one thing they haven't stopped doing is sending the
quarterback to the sideline to get the play call. Now
that time, they lined up almost in a power formation
kind of like what we see rock Ford do when
they have Luca hernon. They put Moncoon up front as
the lead back and they went actually shotgun in random
playoff right tackle there.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Straight t formation of this time. The first carry for
Jonah Leslie. They're big back, like Buck said, they always
have one of those, and he gets the first down.
Why not on short yardage number one a senior. He
also plays little linebacker for him. Nice surge out to
the forty two yard line. So there you see the
different running backs in Holman, Leslie and Monkoon and then
how about tight end Marshall Johnson. They'll throw to him
(04:49):
number eighth, the senior, And of course it's all about
the offensive lineup front, led by center Jase Henry, a junior,
also a starter on defense. There are eight guys that
go both ways, so we'll keep an eye that. But
he's a junior center to lead this offensive line. The
guards are Weston Headley and also Mason Myers, who goes
two ways a defensive tackle. First down to ten Montcoon
(05:09):
on the handoff dive right over center, stacked up pretty
good by that West Catholic defense and coming up off
the bottom of the pile that time. You don't see
him too much go two ways. But Jacob Timmers, headed
a CMU to play next year in there on that
defensive front to kind of clog things up.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Gain of one second and nine.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Well, they're gonna start cycling him in there a little
bit more as the stakes get higher. They want to
see what he can do defensively because he takes up
a lot of real estate number one, but also number two,
he gives them an athletic presence on that front line,
and against a team like Zealand, West a guy that
can move in between the tackles is very valuable.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Five down line and then two outside linebackers tucked in
like defensive ends on second to nine play action.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Wants to throw out the flats.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Got his man, that's Leslie down the right side and
inside the West.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Cathoic forty for a first down.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
More they kind of suck you in and then they'll
throw it out and the flats are over the top.
That time it was out to Jonah Leslie to the
thirty eight at West Catholic move the chains first intent.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Well, it's very difficult to defend, especially when you run
it well like that.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
The Ducks did their play action.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Of course you think is going to be a run,
but also Leslie with the speed, there's only so many
guys out there. I mean, it's man coverage and they
have to be careful of letting somebody go over the top.
Very nice play design and Leslie gets out there, picks up.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Nineteen two linebackers in the middle inside handoff mun Kun
and again Wes Cathok.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Nice job.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Gang Green defense stacks him up for a short game,
maybe down to.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
The thirty six. We'll see what they spot. Is Ford progress, they'll.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Push him back to the thirty seven gain him just
wanted second and nine. So your tackles are Eli Chabez,
a junior number seventy one, and then big Lachman Thorsen
is the senior tackle on the other side, near side
tight end Grady Patrick the junior. They gotta keep it
eye on those tight ends because they will throw to them.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
You're right, and you have to be careful if you're
the outside linebacker because you've got contained right that's it.
If you great contain and you let the runner go,
that's it. So you've got to be careful. Double edged
story out there.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
All brick under center, head off right side, not able
to get outside. Good job by that West Catholic defense
all over them, and right there was Noah Gillsie the
outside linebacker for a loss of one, actually making a
couple back to the thirty nine. So third and ten,
Now Zealand West, and let's see if West Cathock can
get off the field ear six thirty six and takeing
(07:27):
left to go. But you talk about that gray zone,
it might be four down territory here for the dust.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, unless there's a cantas traffic loss of yardage on
this play. It's probably gonna be four down territory. And
that's actually the benefit of Zealand West. They don't have
to pick up ten here. They can get six or
seven with this play call.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
They go out of the pistol.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Formation, two backstacked in the left and now a direct
snap over the right side close to that first down mark.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
I don't know if he got it. It's home and
inside to thirty. Let's see.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Oh boy, this near side official gave him a nice spot.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
To the twenty eight. I thought it was more like
the twenty nine.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
And if that's the case, they might have to bring No,
they're gonna say first down. Boy, I thought he was
a yard short bunch, you know. But they give him
a game at ten and first in ten.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
And Coach Grove is like, how did it get all
the way up there? I agree with him. I thought
it was a favorable spot. I mean, it was gonna
be fourth and short. But you're right, it probably was
a little bit short of.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
The line of the game.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
All Breck, but they go direct snap to home and
all Breck the lead blocker. How about that over on
the right side the quarterback is he bounces it outside
inside the twenty five down to the twenty three yard line.
Nice pickup of five second and five and the Ducks
rolling on the movie here and this is the other
part of the game to talk about his time management.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
And they now drained over half of this opening court.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Well, really nice play design. On third and ten, they
go wildcat. They snap it to Holman even though all
Breacht is in the backfield. They have that dual snap option.
They go right to Ali Breck. Excuse me, they go
to Holman instead of all Breach. He goes right up
the middle, there's just nobody there and gets the first down.
And now Zeland West keeps the chains moving and the dry.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
All Brick only a junior moncoon in motion from left
to right. And now Homan taking the direction snap fakes
a head off to Albrick, run up the middle, has
got a crease inside the fifteen and spurts his way
down near the ten yard line. First in ten Zealand
the West they needed five picked up much more than that.
Let's see what they spot him just outside the ten
at the eleven. And how about this little trickery with
(09:22):
Homan faking to Ulbrick that time.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, I think the trickery really is in the backfield.
The lion blocking looks very similar, if not exact, to
what John Sholde would run up front. Right, it's more
of the ball movement and who's got the ball where
it's going.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
And that's really.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Wreaking havoc with the defense because their gamp responsibilities get
a whole lot tougher when it's not just hand the
ball off and see who has it.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
They're gonna call it first in goal knows the football
on the ten Now Homan trying to go wide short
sign Great job by the West.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Catholic defense to hedg him in.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
I believe that was Gillespie over there again on the
stop number zero. As this opening quarter flying by I
brought to you by a Straight Line Fence, a fencing company,
Grand Rapids with a personal touch, offering both residential and
commercial fencing projects. Call them today for your free estimate
at six point six four four three twenty five fifty
or visit Straight Line Fences dot com. Rolling under four
minutes left to go on the opening quarter, still the
(10:15):
first possession of the ball game and Zealand West starting
with the football.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Hey, if you got to get home early go to
a Zealand West football get as I'm telling you, it's
gonna be done quick.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
All Brick and home and now they snap it too,
all Brick and he decides no, that was actually Jonah
Leslie in there, number one, so they didn't have Home
all Brick in the backfield at all. They went with
both backs and he just went right over center. Power
football down inside the nine. Called about the seven and
a half. It'll be third in goals.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Eland West a very diverse offense again, not what we're
used to seeing out of Zealand West. Up front, it's
it's pretty meat and potatoes. They're still blocking the same
play as. It's just so much different than it looks
in the backfield and teams have to get a us
into that very difficult offense to defend when you haven't seen.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
It all year.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Remember this West Catholic defense, it's been outstanding this year.
Moncun No they fake it? Why coming near side? Obrok
wants to throw. Now, gonna tuck it and hit by
Timmer and drive it into the ground inside the five
of the four yard line. It's gonna force fourth and
goal in big Jake Timmer gonna be a future Chipple
while with a big play.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
He's fired up on senior nights.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
I mean, if I admire Algrech's courage and valor, but
running into Jacob timber Head first, yeah, may not be
the wise choice.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
But he didn't have a lot of options. He couldn't.
All he really had was either that or throw it away.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
There was too well covered in the back of the
end zone and he couldn't get his shoulders turned because
of the pursuit, couldn't square up and throw the football.
So it wasn't like he had a lot of really
great choices. Actually, I think we're probably maybe gonna get
the time out here.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Playclock winding down, by the way, for those who can't
see this, obviously a home because we're on the radio.
He's six seven to two, play action ball, Faith throwing
in the end zone, touchdown, Allbrick to Jonah Leslie for
six and Zealand West on fourth and goal converts from
the four to strike first six.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Nothing good because I was running out of the spot
in my drive chart. Good thing they got that done.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Little play action the backfield, all Brick rolling to his right.
They snuck Leslie out towards the back of the end
zone on the right side. And this the regular pitch
and catch it obviously one of the other staples that stays,
whether John Stillatill.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Is on the sideline or not, they're gonna go for two.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Well, this is something that they have always done. And hey,
if you're going better than fifty percent, you're ahead of
the field. And the way they finished that drive off,
it's a good gamble.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Two point fifteen left to go in the opening quarter.
Direct snapped to home and right side lead block Allbrick.
Will he get there?
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Yes? Oh, he just fell on the goal line.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
There were two West Catholic defenders there, but they couldn't
stop them. Count the two point conversion and it's eight
to nothing, Zealand the west Over West Catholic. Two fifteen
left to go in the opening quarter. Time out of
the field. We'll step aside as You're listening to a
Week nine edition of the LMSCU High School Football Game
of the Week, live on this beautiful Friday night here
(13:11):
on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
From Nikita Mangino.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Welcome you back in this Week nine edition of the
LMCU High School Football Game of the Week. Zeeland West
going with a squib kick and it was fueled by
Jacob Petts, one of the guys on the upside for
West Catholic on the kick return team, and he just
wisely hops on a good field position.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Buccino.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
They'll start their first offensive possession of this game with
two twelve left to go in the opening quarter, first
and ten from their own thirty seven Ready. Augustin the
quarterback as senior second year starter, got some playing time
as a sophomore as well, so very experienced. Is number
six one back in the backfield handoff going left side.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
That's Colin Cross the.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Forty running hard. He's a physical big back. They normally
go with the two back system, but they won't tonight,
and he powers his way out to the forty four
yard line. We'll get more into that in a minute,
buck Chino. But Connor Olshefsky, they usually rotate pretty even
to the number with Colin Abram the junior Olshefsky the
senior be Olshefsky banged up a little bit and they
want him more on defense tonight.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Well, it's now that Callen Ariam doesn't know what he's doing.
A pretty capable back himself.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Second down and three bouncing it to the outside, got
the first down and more and finally drawing him from
behind and ripping him out of bounds on the near
silnds Drew Albrick the safety two way starter, also a
quarterback on the offense is you heard him at opening
tribe but first down and ten, nice run by Colin Abram.
We were impressed with both backs and they both played
well on that victory over South Christian.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Yeah, and you saw at that time with the value
of having two good backs. A little thunder and lightning action,
but just gives you a different look, something to prepare
for if you're a defense.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Abram is a two way starter. Some movement up front,
but they say no encroachment there. Landing Grove now gonna
signalant and change the play. Abram the will linebacker on
defense as a starter as well. For the junior first
down in ten, two wide receivers left, two to the right,
Abram steps up next to Augusta and they play fake
it to them.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
I'll swing it out in the flats.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Got a man inside the forty kind of a little
wide receiver bubble screen with a blocker down field and
on the pitch and catch that time.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
It was Cal Peterson, the senior wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Nice gain of eight second and two coming up, and
they're in quickly to Zeeland West territory to the Ducks
thirty six yard line.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yeah, they just drive them back.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
The defensive back out with a deep pattern and they
did block downfield after the screen is complete.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Now option pitch out hits the turf, but nice job
of picking up. They're gonna lose yarde the Zealand West defense.
Two good sidelines, a sidelines to not pick that up.
Julian Cato, by the way, was the junior running back.
He'll lose yardage on the pitch back to the thirty
seven yard line, so it's gonna be third and three,
loss of one.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
That's where you see Julian Cato, the third running back
in the rotation. Grady Augustin's looking back and he's just
used to the other two guys and he throws that pitch.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
It looks like they're gonna be the end of the
quarter here.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
But he throws that pitch thinking of the speed of
either Ozchewsky or Abram.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
And I still know who's that fault there.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
But that's where you see just a little bit of
difference when you take a guy like Alzewski out of
the lineup.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
That might be a record for twelve minutes in the books,
But gino that first quarter flew by. After one here
at Falcons Stadium, our score Zealand West eight Falcons.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Nothing.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
We'll come back West Cathy with a football after this.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
On ninety six to one the game Welcome back Jeams.
Quitch signs ends the.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Field and here we call third and three coming up
two our receivers the right.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
One and left.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Augustin throwing to his left complete, He's got himbody for
a first down up the near sideline in front of
the West Catholic bench. They'll mark him out at the
twenty seven. Nice pickup there of ten first down and
ten moved to change. And that's what Grady Gouts can do.
Very smooth left handed quarterback. But like I said, his
experience and he's not afraid to take it outside if
he needs to run a little bit too.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Yeah, and Coach Grove is wanting him to be more
of a distributor this year.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Last year was a little bit more of a runner.
Owen Hunter in motion.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
They run jet sweep of the wide receiver very speedy
cuts back inside the twenty and close to that first
down marker, getting never one involved.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
He will have the first down.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
They spot him down to the Zealand West sixteen first
and ten gain of eleven and now West Cathack kind
of opening up. They're so good the Falcons at making
you cover them all in space.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
And they go all fifty three in a thirty yards
from sideline to sideline. That's gonna be really tough on
the Ducks, especially a team Legacy and the West that
plays several players on both sides.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Of the ball.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Thomas Buck still want to keep it eye number nineteen
two and now they swing it out in the flats.
Great job defensively. Wow, that's a physical play by junior
Drew Albreck. This safety right on that is they tried
to clear out then run underneath that time Ethan Gottlebert,
but Ulbrick was right there sniffing that out for no gain.
Second and ten coming up for the Fulcutcher.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Didn't get the memo that he was supposed to go
towards the head zone. He read that perfectly. And you're
right they're trying to clear that under out underneath. If
I could talk today and try to get him up
the sideline again. They're trying to get to the boundary.
West Catholic's offense is most effective when they're spreading the
(18:25):
field and trying to get to the boundary. Be just
because of the way that they function with their speed.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Two teams fun to watch defense because they're very physical.
Now they swing it out again, Embody for a game
inside the fifteen on the pitching catch, came back to
the football in the flats on the delivery from Augustin
and they mark him down at the twelve yard line.
So it's gonna set third and five just underway in
the second quarter. Eight nothing Zealand West, but West Catholic
in the red zone with their first offensive possession of
(18:53):
the night.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Well, and this is what puts the pressure on a
team like West Cathock. Now it's third down if they
don't get it now Wayne and Smith a capable and
very fine kicker for the Falcons. But you gotta feel
like if you're laying and Grove, okay, do we have
to keep pace with him?
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Can we get a stop?
Speaker 3 (19:06):
They already took nine minutes off the clock, So do
you go for a field goal? If you don't get
it here. That's what makes this play call even more interesting.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Third down and they call it six from the twelve,
two wide receivers each way. Augustin on the short shotgun
takes a staff, fires across the middle, touchdown on the
post pattern, cal Peterson the senior, and boy, that was beautiful.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Want to deliver that time a strike right between the
numbers from Grandy Augustin.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Or you could just score a touchdown. I mean, that's
that's one way to do it. That's a beautiful throw
there by Augustin. And what I really like there, Brett,
did you see the maturation we saw him last year?
Very athletic, kind of got outside the pocket and try
to create things this time this year in the pocket,
letting his receivers do the work, and he lets that
pattern develop. And then Pierson cuts across the middle and
(19:55):
Augustin hits him.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Are right on the money, Landon Smith. They'll try to
tack on the extra point.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Traditional kick is up and it is good, very good
kicker as the senior land and Smith.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
And so with nine.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Fifty two left to go, first half, West Catholic answers
with seven of their own. It's Zealand West eight West
Catholic seven. Back with Moore as you're listening to all
the action live from Falcon Stadium right here on ninety
six to one the game, Land and Smith high end
over end, Dick taking on the fly at the ten
(20:27):
by Brandon Holman right up the middle is across the twenty,
stealing his feet across the thirty. A nice return by
Holman the junior out to the thirty nine yard line
of Zealand West to give him a return of twenty nine.
And let's recap the scoring. If you're just tuning into
this fast moving game. Nine forty six left to go
in court number two, it's eight to seven Zealand West
over West Kathlic.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Well the Ducks open the scoring sixteen plays, nine minutes
and forty five seconds over eighty yards, four yard touchdown
pass from Albrich to Leslie Leslie excuse me and Holman
with the two point conversion eight to nothing, and then
West Catholic bringing the gap to one, a twelve yard
path from Augustin to Peterson and Smith adding the pat.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
And we've got see. They knew I wasn't done, So
what they did is they moved early gave me.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Enough time to finish. The scoring summary brought to you
by mkd Well.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
You wonder about Cadence here too, because Jonah Leslie is
in and again they're rotating people in. It's like an
old school single wing where you can snap to two
different guys and it's not necessarily Drew Albrick, who is
the listed starting quarterback.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Right, And that's the other thing that you do run
into is good point Brett. Different guys getting the ball
means different signals. Now Albreck is not in the game
at all. When he is back there, he can still
call the signals and not take the snap.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Now, not back there at all.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Now direct snap to home Man with again Jonah Leslie
back there and over the left side. Not a lot
of running room. Good job by the West Catholic defense.
They are rock solid. The point I wanted to make.
They had the opening loss here to Norview Max Wildman
on the stop, and then after that they've rattled off
seven straight to get here tonight at seven and one,
and they are you're defending OK White two time division champs.
(22:06):
Loss of one, by the way, I'm sorry, gain of
four right because of the penalty yard It So second
eleven coming up after that carry by Holman, and here
we go Jonah Leslie in the backfield with Homan.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
They have two backs that are up over the right.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Side of the offensive line, and now they're gonna send
Moncon in motion handoff from home to Leslie and as
he tried to cut on the natural grass field at
the thirty.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Six yard line, he goes down.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
You don't have to be touched in high school football,
so are gonna lose some yardage there.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
You have a loss of a couple's third and thirteen
now coming up.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
This is exactly what this West Catholic defense wants here.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Well, that's what I talked about getting Zeland West behind
the six. Now the interesting part though, is well they've
got some extra weapons that were not normally used to
seeing and now they've brought in Albricks back and clearly
a passing down, but they're going to line up in
the same formation.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
They got three.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Guys stacked to the right side of that offensive line.
On third and low off out of the pistol formation.
Albrick wants to throw over the top. Got a man
out there but stepping in front to intercepting his Oldshevsky,
the safety at the thirty five run back across the
forty and of the forty seven yard line.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
The first turnover the nine comes on senior nine five.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
One of those seniors, number seven, Connor Olschewsky, is playing
one side of.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
The football Tonight Buck Geno.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Well, that one just kind of hangs up there. Albreck
tries to hit his receiver.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Over the middle.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
He had Logan Nash streaking down the seam. If he
was able to get enough air under him, he just
couldn't get it there. In Olshovsky, playing center field, nabs
it midair and makes a nice return. He gets West
Katholic another good bit of field position.
Speaker 1 (23:44):

Way who wants to go to the air again? Got Peterson.
He caught the touchdown This moment to go in Zealand
(24:04):
West Territory, Little coral route on the inside to the
forty five. Give him a gain of nearly eight. Call
it seven second and three coming up for West cathink
eight seven Zealand West, but e turn over now for
the Falcons a chance to take their first lead of
the ball game.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
We see Zune West playing about seven to nine yards off.
Now they're gonna have to press on one side or
the other to minimize that cushion.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
From the right hast They go trips wide side left
to gusta now designed quarterback keeper. Look at him dancing
across the forty He's got a first down in the
ducks ter a joy down to the thirty five yard line.
Augusted a good athlete with quick feet, but also he's
bigger than you think, and lay a lick at the
end of.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
That to pick up the first down. Tough customer.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
Another senior here on senior inside the thirty five. They
spot him at.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
The Zealand West thirty four.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
They really like to use him still in the run
game as a design run kind of try to cut
down a little bit down the improv.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
It has been successful.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Two guys moving over to the short side, they go
trips that way. Hunter moving over and handoff now left
side Colin Amram ballpops looses. He was hit hard at
the twenty five, but I think a wes Cathley offensive
lineman hopped on it and save the day. It was
number fifty two. That's Britney Schultz, the left guard.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Kylin's gonna have to buy him a meal after the game.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
That was a hit. Both defenses are physical, yeah, I
mean kyledy.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Everram was going one way and then it's kind of
like when you walk into the door and you forget
to turn the knob. And he dropped the football too,
And luckily for wes Kathley. I don't think Zeland West
knew that he fumbled the ball because he didn't really
hear anything, sadly. I normally you hear a reaction, but
nobody said anything.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Wild Man listed as the wing back in this plan
to design Colin Abrams going to go.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Right side on second and short.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
Not gonna get their great job by the defensive stealing
the West. Ethan Heiser, the sophomore, was over there to help.
Boy Lick I mentioned eight guys originally. Now they'll rote
to other people in going both ways tonight for Zealand, West.
Do you look at linebackers guys like Jonah Leslie and
Marshall Johnson.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
As a hockey guy, this would have looked they're like
doing line changes. Ough.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Right here, they got guys going in and out for
both sides, which is good. That's what you want to
see in week nine in the game that really it
does not matter hand.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Off favor of trying to go wide side right, I
don't know if he's gonna get there, and he's not.
Oh great second effort. He was stacked up for no
gain and all of a sudden, popped through two defenders.
They didn't wrap up, and I'm thirty two. He converts
all the way down to the twenty one yard line.
What looked like there was nothing there gain of five
first in ten West Catholic.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
We were screening.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
He's on the fire side of the field and there
was just a mass of he was green and white
for both sides, white jerseys with green numbers for Zealand
weston the opposite for the Falcons. But he looked like
he stopped short of the line the game and then
just spit out like somebody's kind of just like a
whale spitbout of the water and gets five yards of
(27:02):
the first down.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Freshut of downs.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
A motion to guy out wide side left and then
swing out to abral Lois's shoulder and goes for about
five more. That was a defensive lineman that he laid
out inside the fifteen to the fourteen yard line, so
almost like a hand uff that is swinging out in
the flats. Colin Abram, the junior running back, does the rest.
Nice to pick up there of seven second and three
(27:23):
and Buck Gino, we're rolling towards five minutes left to
go first half eight to seven Zealand westernor West Catholic.
But the Falcons in the red zone again.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Well, now this is where you can be a little
bit different with the play call, because now three points
get you the lead versus maybe thinking you need to
keep pace with the other left. So we'll see what
they do here. Of course they want the touchdown, but
the play call may look a little different.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
How tough is the junior number forty three Calid Abram
lowered the shoulder like he was hitting someone as a linebacker.
Now the swing out after the play fake, nice job
in the flats. Augustin has been right on the money
inside the ten. That's wild Man to the seven yard
line first and goal.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Now they run. They like to run that clearout play.
This time.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
They motion two guys from the wide side to the
near side. They go tight trips and then they clear
out a little underneath, almost like a tunnel screen, but
just a clearout route. They throw it to Wildman and
he makes the first own.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Let me correct myself, it was eighty three, not twenty three,
because his jersey's kind of crinkled up there. It's Isaac Plumb,
the sophomore wide receiver, just rotated out. Wild Man came
in and now I'm the handoff. Colin Abram makes a
man miss stiff arm into the end zone. First six.
Want to run by Colin Abram out of the short
shotgun for Mason time counteraction from right to left, landing Grove.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
As the one finger up.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
They're gonna kick it traditionally, and with four to eight
left to go here in the first half, that run
by Colin Abram for six gives wes Cothock their first
lead to ninth thirteen to eight with the extra.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Point up coming.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Good blocking the left side for the Falcons and just
with the variety and diversity that the Pelicans have offensively,
very tough for Zealand West to cover everything that time
they get caved in on that side, No contain, couldn't
set the edge, and then Abram does the rest.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
We're gonna have a penalty here.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Now this is going to be interesting because with the
offside penalty, do they now think about going for two
to keep it a seven point game?
Speaker 1 (29:23):
And Landon's talking with he said no, yeah, he's talking
with his assistant coach, though they thought about it. Cal Peterson,
the wide receiver senior is year holder. Landon Smith has
it right between the hashes, trying to tack on the
extra point here well.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
And Landon's like, okay, coach, I could have used the
extra two yards there with you didn't you'd have to
decline it. You could just not Oh we got we
got movements. He's like, see, we could have taken the
extra yard because that's a false start.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
It might be preference though, just for Landon Smith as
far as kicking. Now, the falls start against West County, so.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
I'm telling you he doesn't prefer to kick it from
twenty five, right, But you're right. I mean, maybe it's
just a rhythm thing. I mean, let's let's be honest.
I mean, if it's a thirty five, he's still got
the distance.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Well, if you have a kicker that you know just
struggles maybe to make extra points, I get that.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
But we know Landon Smith he's got plenty of left
at all.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
So what would be like a twenty five yard field
goal for the extra point? After the penalty snap is
going hold his down, plenty of leg kick is up and.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
It is good.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
So with four oh eight left to go here this
fast moving first half, our score now reads West Catholic
fourteen Zealand West eight. What a regular season finale for
the LMCU High school football Game of the Week. We'll
come back with more after this. On ninety six to
one the game, look out, here comes Brandon Holman backed
(30:48):
the other way on the fly again from Landon Smith
on the kickoff, this time from the nine, and he
had a full head of steam across that thirty had
a nice blocking be that time by the kick return
team and he's out across the forty bucks Gino. They
found something on kick return out to the forty four
yard line, So good field position here Zealand. Last first
down and ten and for the first time. Tonight they
(31:09):
trailed by six, fourteen to eight with four old two
left to go.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Oh a rough go on that last possession, two plays
and then an interception. Coach Bullhouse really would like to
get them back on track. And I think you're gonna
see that here a little bit more traditional with allbreck
thunder center in the traditional.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Deformation, double tight ends, set handoff from left to right,
Brandon Holman number six getting the heavy load. Tonight's even
playing a little quarterback out of that single wing look
across the forty five good pushed by the right side
of the offensive line out to the forty eight yard line.
This West Catholic defense has been outstanding coming in and
you just look at the numbers. I mean, twenty one
points except for that one game with norfew in the
(31:46):
last seven. That's the most they've given up in any game.
Cam Imbody is one of the corners, Jacob Petts outside linebacker.
No what Gilespie we've called tonight. Their leading tackler is
only a junior number thirty one, Jail Juca, and he's
one that you're gonna like. Second down and seven handoff
left side the big back Joe to Leslie over the
(32:07):
left side, working between the garden tackle and he's across
the midfield strife. Zealand West just keeps coming at you
into West Catholic territory. He's about a yard short of
that first down marker at the Falcon's forty seven yard line.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
I hope they got the halftime good.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
He's ready because as soon as they get kicked off,
he should have started cucking the Hamburgers for the halftime piece.
Because we're almost what is it here? We got seven
thirty four, We're almost done with the first half.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Grayson Ewall, the big nose tackle defensive ends. Hunter Price
there defensively along with Christian Patterson. They got everyone up
with a line of scrimmage. Now handoff home and right side.
He's got the first down inside the forty five, powered
his way down to the forty three yard line.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Stops the clock moment, Jelly.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
They moved the chains, like I said, the Ducks coming
right back here. Two forty one left to go. Stay
with us at halftime for scores and more. Are live
game reports for Week nine with Rick Burk and our crew.
Holst Jepson Physical Therapy brings that to you Tonight's players
have worked hard to get their bodies ready for competition,
and Hlst Jempson Physical Therapy wants them to stay in
the game no matter what level of activity they desire.
(33:12):
They get patients in within twenty four to forty eight hours.
Holst Jepson Physical Therapy Restoring body, reviving spirit. First down
to ten, straight t formation, hand alf fullback, no play action,
pulled it out. All Break finds his man Holman in
the flats. He's open inside the thirty five and he's
got a first down up the far sideline in front
of that Zealand West bench to the West.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Catholic thirty one.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
I've told everybody we thought Monkkun had the ball, and
I think so did Best Cathley because they kind of
stopped playing a little bit and Holman runs out to
the flat. They're also trying to get somebody deep. They
were trying to run Grady Patrick, but with the grass field,
he kind of loses his balance. It just falls, so
only one option, but Holman was open and all Breck
delivers the football.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
I tell you what one of the things, Buck, and
we're senior here tonight. Eli Chavez the right tackle just
gigantic is. We were impressed with Zealand westmember their size
of their offsive line, especially after the senior class they lost.
First down in ten Monk Coud breaks through, finds it.
Craase doesn't need much trying to get into second gear
and then stacked up, but not before he's inside the
West Catholic twenty five for a nice gain.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
They're gonna spot him to the twenty three.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
They'll give him nine in that first down, second and
one coming up as the clock rolling one fifty five
and ticket left to go.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
First half.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Well, if you're zealing West because you received the first
half kickoff, what you're trying to do here is we'll
make sure that West Kaflick has no time lefter, very
little time left on the scoreboard if you're able to
get some points on your side.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Lachlan Thorsten the other tackle in there.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Second down in shore, they say gain a vacum to
play action. Baked Holman hit out the flats and that's
jonah Leslie down inside the fifteen takes it up the
field knocked out of bounds near the ten yard line.
I think we got a first in goal bug Gino
and like I said, here come the Ducks right back
down the field with one thirty left to go first half.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
I love to play action there great well. And that's
the thing.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
I mean, that's usually the play, that's what you prepare
for against the t for the passing game. But Leslie
doing a great job selling the right and that's the
thing with the guys, different guys handling the ball, it
just makes it that much tougher for the defenders to
really read what's going on.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
All Brick under center first and goal from the ten
hand off Jonah Leslie counteraction right half to the left side.
That way you can get a couple of blockers with
him as well. Powers his way. Good job of the
West Catholic defense down to about the eight yard line.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Give McGain of two and time out gonna be called.
Let's see who called it.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
At the official signal here, so Wes Cathock taking a
time out.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
We'll keep it right here.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
We mentioned pull chefs of Physical Therapy halftime show coming
up one twenty away.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
I don't know what they're gonna hear about the reports.
We're gonna have to call it the first quarter and
a half show.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
There are some early starts though, Byron Center way down
in Illinois against Morris and eight team coming in fourteen
to nothing Byron Center in Mark Cisco. How big was
that win against Forrest Hill's Northern Sorry about that with
your Huskies, but.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
It was big for them to get in.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Whoever they had that rough five games stretch to start
the season.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
I think really the win against Mona shor has kind
of saved their season, right because now going in, regardless
of what happens tonight, they're going to be in the playoffs.
But that win against Mona Shoran's got them a lot
of points. Mona Shorans doesn't have the greatest record this year,
they're only at four and three, but they have a
pretty good playoff base because of the teams that they've beaten,
(36:31):
and so by that Byron Center, with their strength of
schedule and the teams that they have beaten, have enough
to qualify in Division two for the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
How about this one?
Speaker 1 (36:39):
We almost looked at this game because we thought it'd
be fun as far as the aerial attacks. Everyy Holland
Christian twenty one to nothing over five and three Grand
Rapids Christian. Who's gonna go to the playoffs? The Eagles
this year with four to twenty five left to go
in the first half.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
There, well, I talked about that in my pregame segment
con Christian and you know Eric Grassman, he knows they
had to have this game.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Yeah, Aberger, they had had this game in so far.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
The Maroons playing what looks to be a flawless half
of football.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
They're gonna say it's at the seventy or second in
goal under center all Brett Canda full back and Monk
Coon is just grabbed and thrown down inside the five.
Nice forward progress, so he's strong and also very fast
back number twenty one. They're gonna get forward progress to
about the three and West Cathick will burn another time
out with one o six left to go their second
(37:28):
of the half.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Zealand West still with all three.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
But how about that, I mean he went from the seven,
didn't look like it was much there down to about
the three yard line, third and goal coming up with
the Ducks.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
And it wasn't like a rugby scrum like we know
we see with the lineman pushing. You're gonna put some
more time back on the clock here. But Zealand, excuse me,
Wes Catholic trying to conserve time as West as Zealand
West is close to.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
The goal line.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Other games of note Guidwin Heights and Belding for the
Okay Silver Championship.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Brett.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
If I would have told you in the week nine
the championship is going to be decided by Godwin Heights
and Belding, I would not be here. I'd probably be
in some place with a straight jacket. But boy, coach Kimball,
what hands off to them? The Wolverines, the fighting Rick Burkes,
They've they're in no matter what happens tonight. But just
a terrific story. A team that has struggled on and off.
(38:21):
They've had some good players but just have not been
able to string it together. They're going to be in
the playoffs for the first time since nineteen eighty nine. Yeah,
so a terrific story. Yes, senior years, you know all
that is the congratulations to Godwin Heights regardless of what
happens tonight.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Yes, it'd be really really cool if they won.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
But they're gonna make the playoffs and that's a tremendous
story for that community in that school.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Here we go straight t formation mine all Brick under
cent a third and goal from the three, and who
is it with the carriers? Homan Albrick turned and kind
of was a lead blocker on that after he handed
off to Home and they just powered it in right
side from three yards out and number six gets to
pay dirt as Zealand West takes the lead back here
(39:03):
actually tied fourteen a.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Piece, can take the lead with a two point conversion.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Well that's where the two point conversions now come into play.
You make it here, you just keep building on that
lead because if the other team kicks it, you just
keep every time one point ahead, one point ahead, and
you start to put that pressure on the offense of
the other team.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
So Leslie had the first touchdown on a pass and
now they go on the ground pitch the home and
right side trying to power his way into us with
a two point conversion. So it was all Brandon a
Holman on that scoring drive. Talley eight points on the
board and Zealand West.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Regains the lead with one oh nine left to go.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Here the first half sixteen to fourteen over West.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Catholic time out of the field to we'll step us
on as well.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
You're listening to a week non edition of the LMCU
High School Football Game of the Week right here on
ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Brod Bikina Bunct Gmail back here at up Can.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Stadium on the west side Tonight West Cathaga and Zealand
West in a good when they go with a squipkick
do the Ducks.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
It's fielded by Hudson Perry.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
He goes about five yards up and then just gets
down to give his offense some time here and they'll
start this drive at their own thirty three.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Yeah, trying to conserve time instead of make a big return.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
First down in ten, Augustin drops back to pass now
flushed out of the pocket and run right side.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
No contain there.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
So wisely takes the ordage that the Dutch defense gives
him out near the forty yard line. Let's see ie
they spawn him officially and just runs out of bounds
to stop the clock.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
With one minute exactly left to go.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
They're gonna say out at the thirty nine, so give
him six second and four coming out to Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
He and TOFA send me a kind of had a
story contest. He knows he wants to get out of
the bounds. Does Augustin but Simmy wants to try to
bring him down.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Now to layed handoff to Abram who was the only
back of the backfield trying to get to the outside.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Of Oh hit and drop. That was Holman.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
I tell you what, there's some physicality going on. He's
gonna be close to that first down marker. They spot
it and all they're gonna say, he's got it to
the forty four boy, hurry up offense here for the
officials as well, A jen Kings not even said handoff
now going wide again, same play pretty much Abram and
it's Jonah Leslie stopping him, but not before he gets
into the secondary.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
We got a man down I believe for Zealand West
or maybe they call the time out now it was
to fix Simea.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Well, well, yeah, they're gonna say West Cathock takeing it
because there was an injured player down. Now Sima is
trying to fight it off, walking gingerly to the sideline.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Mean, while that last play to the West Catholic forty
eight yard line for a nice pick up a five.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Well, and the thing is the injured player is I mean,
you don't want to try to guess if he's gonna
get up lose precious seconds. So coach Grove spends his
last time out and now with forty two seconds, they
lay out just outside midfield, but they running the football
almost exclusively here after they got the ball back with
a minute to go. Now you feel like you almost
(41:54):
gotta be forced to go to the year at some point.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Buck Gino, could we expect a better game than this
a week? Not that kind of what we thought.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
I mean, both teams in a heavyweight boxing match, kind
of throwing some you know, jabs, kind of checking each other.
But at sixteen to fourteen, Zealand West by two. But
Wes Cathack's got a chance to put some more points
on before the half. And like I said before, the
energy is just different. Both teams are going to play
next week, both teams are in the playoffs. They don't
have to worry about getting in their seeding or anything
(42:21):
else like that. They're pretty much walked in. And so
there's just a little bit of a different feel to
this game. And both teams really showing off the talent
that they have tonight. Second down and we'll call it
six game of four. Ready Gustin back to pass, now
flushed out again, gonna run and get out of.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
Bounds near sideline.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Driven out that time by Weston Headley, the junior linebacker
for Zealand west And both teams rotating a lot of
different players. The Indy kind of save bodies. He did
cross the fifty to forty nine. Whi's gonna be third
and short. Wes Cathock quickly over the football here thirty
six seconds left to go, first half, two wide receivers
right to the left.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
Augusta from the left, hast turns fires, got his man.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Embody can wait for a first down inside the forty
five to the forty four and the falcons and two
minute mode. Here, nice catch by cam embody. Here we go,
Augustin to getting out of pistol formation. You gotta air
it out of the top. Oh, just a little bit
too far for embody who had single coverage off the
sideline behind him trying to play that time.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
You wonder if he's still banged.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Up a little get a Simia who was trying to
cover embody who had to beat by his stay.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
Yeah, well, Inbody beat him, won that route very early,
and Augustin saw that and just uncorked one.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
Man.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Just another step maybe, but you see, if you see
the receiver break free, that's not a bad throw there.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
He just overcooked it a little bit.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
He probably wishes he had that one back because inbody
was in behind the defense.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
Second down and ten, two wide receivers each way back
to pass again.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
Augustin flushed out of.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
The pocket, throwing out of the run, aired it out,
got a man out there, actually two in the area,
but too far. But breathing down his neck. He had
to get rid of it that time. Is Marshall Johnson,
a linebacker who was coming hard. Augustin kind of threw
it safe where only his guys were gonna get it
incomplete near the goal line. So nineteen seconds left, first half,
third down in ten from the Zealand West forty four
(44:15):
yard line for the Falcon.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
Also, it does stop the clock with the incomplete pass.
Coach Grove had had his heart and his stomach there
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
And they've got no time out.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
As Augustine was drifting to the sideline and just heaves
it up there.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Colin abram in the backfield Agustin from the pistol, but
count pressure abram In an attack might have got away
with a hole there now flushing out to the right
as to turn it square, his body does slings it
down the sideline got him. Man, did he make it catch?
Speaker 2 (44:44):
No?
Speaker 1 (44:45):
Incomplete? Peterson was trying to keep the foot down. Good
call by the official right in front of the Zealand
West bench.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
I think it was a good call.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
The Falcons fans below us don't like it, but I
think Peterson did everything could But I think the throw
just drew him out a bound.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Mean, I'm telling you right now, we probably know just
as much as say over here. I mean, it's on
the farest side of the field.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
What a throw.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
Though it was a great throat by Augustin, I think
he just ran out of real estate. Pearson tried to
keep his feet in bounds but just could not do that.
And now West Katholic on fourth down eight seconds, I'm
kind of surprised that they're going to line up here
for a kick.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
If I was playing and going, but there's a lot
of people the happy. I'm not. But I might just
have Augustin run around and throwing into the end zone.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
Remember Wes Cathock does start with a football. In the
second half, they won the toss and defer like lock
down to two. I'll just kick it away low wobbly spiral,
no one back As he mentioned Verzilian the west ron
is save it at the one. Did they know it
went into the end zone? So an automatic touchback to
the twenty with three seconds left to go first half.
I want to pass along one score real quick. Rapid
(45:50):
Radio scoreboard update because this was an early start. Justin Phoebus,
the senior quarterback for you know he Christian a twenty
eight yard touchdown run with just under nine minutes left
to go in rightgular, it's twenty seven to twenty five.
Now Pontiac Notre Game Prep over Unity Christian. Remember the
Crusaders coming in at eight to no into that contest, Well, that.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
Same thing as last year coming into the finale against
Piniac Notre Dame Prep. Last year they went all the
way over there and defeated the NDP very handily.
Speaker 2 (46:19):
This time is a little bit different story.
Speaker 1 (46:20):
Brought to you by Rapid Radio is the only nationwide
LTE walkie talkies with no monthly fee.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
Ever.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
Find out more at Rapid radios dot com. Under center
all brick, first down in ten. Let's see what they
do inside handoff home and he's got some running room
into the secondary. They better corral the man. They're grabbing
for the jersey, and finally Oldschewsky getna time up and
bring him down and that will run out the clock.
But a big game. He was across the midfield stripe
before finally Olshefsky wrapped him up near the West Catholic
(46:48):
forty five yard line and with some help brought him down.
Well played first twenty four minutes as both teams run.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
To the locker room.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Our score at the end of the first half. Zealand
West sixteen, West Catholic fourteen.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Stay with us.
Speaker 1 (47:01):

Find the Trinity Health Michigan High School Football page at
nine to six one, the game dot com one oh seven,

(47:43):
couple of the scores where we send it back out.
We heard Bow tell us that Godwin Heights was threatening
at the very end of the half and they did
get into the end zones. They're at the break now
and that ok, silver winner takes all titled show on
Building twenty eight, Godwin Heights twenty at the half again.
We have a full report in that in the Meyer
scoreboard show and we've got a later update from that
(48:04):
game involving Unity Christian undefeated. Unity Christian trailing now Pontiac
Notre Dame Prep thirty four to twenty five, that game
with just a couple of minutes left at Unity Christian's
home field. All right, that we'll send it back out
to our nine to six to one game of the
week at West Catholic High School. It's a good one.
Zealand West and West Catholic battling. Zealand West leading by
two going in the half, ret and Bucks standing by
to take us home.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
Guys, all right, thank you Rick, you will look forward
to hearing for more scores. Kind of getting ready for
the Meyer scoreboard shore our final edition of the season
coming up with Rick and our game reporters in the
fourth quarter, especially if we get some finals here in
the second half. Here our story is was we recapped
that first half scoring, but you know, sixteen to fourteen,
it's Zealand West by to over West Catholic on Senior
(48:47):
night for the Falcons, it was eight to nothing Zealand West.
They dominated in that first quarter just because they had
the football for so long. They started with the football.
So West Catholic will start here in the second half.
But then a couple of scores for West Cathock they
took the lead. Then a nice answer for Zealand and
West to lead it by two here at the break.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
Yeah, as you mentioned, Zealand West opening drive nine minutes
and forty five seconds. So if you went to the
bathroom to start the game, well you missed a lot
there because Zeland West scored on that opening drive eight nothing.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
After the pat the two point conversion was good.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
West Catholic answers with a touchdown of their own twelve
yard touchdown pass from Augustin to Peterson, and it was
eight to seven at that point. West Cathley then scoring
again after a turnover by the Ducks, this time a
seven yard touchdown run by Colin Abram fourteen to eight
after the pat and then Zeland West answering back to
end a half with the minute nine to go in
(49:42):
the second quarter, Holman with a two yard touchdown run
and the two point conversion to put the Ducks up.
As we stand here at halftime, Zealand West sixteen and
West Catholic fourteen.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
Not only a good game, buck Gino, but that's four
touchdowns for our touchdowns for kiss campaign here in the
final week we do just for the regular season on
the board for us. We'll see what happens with the
Lake Shore game as well to add to our total.
So that's two hundred dollars more going into.
Speaker 2 (50:08):
This final week.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
Fifty four and fifty dollars donated this season, fifty dollars
per touchdown in both games of the week by Lake
Michigan Credit Union.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
Thank you so much. So we want to eclipse that
six thousand mark if we can.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
If that leads us right into as both teams are
warming up to the second half your Vandali on home
improvement keys to the contest.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
What were both coaches talking about in the locker room
at the break buck well.
Speaker 3 (50:29):
I think for Wes kask them able to get a
being able to get a stop in that first half
really help them get back into this game. They actually
got the lead because of it. Because going back and
forth with a team like Zealand West, especially when they
go for two and put the pressure on the offense,
just not sustainable. If you're West Cathley, you guys got
to find a way to get them to more negative plays.
(50:50):
That's how you defeat a team like Zealand West that
runs that tee formation. Get them in negative plays down
in distance.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
That they don't like. That's what you have to do.
I said it before.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
They have to find a way to do it again
because those long time consuming drives take a lot of starch.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
Out of the defense.
Speaker 3 (51:07):
I know they're trying to cycle in guys to keep
everybody fresh, but it just really takes the starts out
only physically, but mentally as well, because now if you're
the offense, you feel like, man, we got a score,
and that puts a lot of pressure on you and
the coaches for Zealand West what they've got to be
able to do in the second half.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
I think they just kind of go back to basics
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
I like their first drive, I like the fact that
they've distributed the ball well, and then the second series
that didn't work at all.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
And so what they did is they went back to
old reliable on that last.
Speaker 3 (51:36):
Drive of the first half, straight t formation for most
of that drive, got down the field and scored.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
This will be very interesting here.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
To start the second half as Wes Catholic will receive
the football, so it's Kneeland West.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
If they can get a stop here, I think they
will be in the driver's seat.
Speaker 1 (51:52):
Cal Peterson and Andrew Laphama number twelve the senior backup
running back back deep for Wes Cathock to receive. They'll
be moving right to left on your radio now. In
this second half, Zealand West getting set to kickoff. As
we mentioned Bescount. They winning the opening coin toss for
the captains and defer to the second half. Sixteen to
fourteen Zealand West and two point late. As we start
the second half, they go with a low squip kick
(52:13):
in the middle of the field, taking on a couple
of hops inside the twenty about the sixteen yard line.
Nice job getting up the field and hit and driven
back as he got right to the thirty five yard line.
Lap him on their turn. So it'll be first down
in ten for Grady Augustin and company there as the
sealand West defense takes the field.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
But this offense deadly.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
With their wide receivers Owen Hunter, cam Embody with quite
a first half.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
Thomas Pucks does ben kind of quiet.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
Don't think he's got a catch to night number nineteen,
the junior Max Wildman as well.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
They kind of rotate around.
Speaker 1 (52:44):
And that offensive front has done a pretty good job
against a good sized defensive line for Zeland West. Of course,
they're led by center Luke Momber. First down in ten,
just underway here second half.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
Think about how good they'd be if kyro Ochefsky was
playing on both side.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
It's football, yeah, just playing defense tonight. Because he suffered
a little bit of a sprain inch right now breaking
out of a tackle. Look Out the guy who normally
shares a log with Colin Abrams.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
Making a statement.
Speaker 1 (53:09):
Konts is the outside. He's inside the thorny he's running
free inside the twenty and finally caught from behind.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
But what a run.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
It was all Brick who ran him down all the
way to the ten yard line of Zealand West. And
that's what number forty three Colin Abram can do. And
the good news for Falcons fans he'll be back next year.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
He's only a junior.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Well that's a little bit of something we saw in
this first half as well as Zealand West a couple
of times has not been able to make the initial
tackle they had Abram with contact at around the line
of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
They had to kind of surround it. They just don't
bring him down.
Speaker 3 (53:43):
And again call credit to count running hard, but if
you're Zealand West, you've got to bring him down when
you have the chance. Instead, he breaks it for a
fifty seventy yard game. Yeah, sets up first and goal.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
Now they want to go option to his backup and
they're trying to get wide nothing doing great open field tackle.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
That was Mungcoon that time.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
The linebacker strung that play out and in there because
of Noel Chef's scout offense was Julian Cato, the junior
running back got a little prop.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Run that upsho with Cato that time. The snap was
not a good one.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Augustin had to wait for it a little bit and
then everybody from Zealand west on the defensive side was
able to read that play because he kind of gave
a tell as the ball was still.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Getting to him.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
He started to run to the outside and the contained
was able to close quickly on Cato and drop him
for a while.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
Cato deep in the back of the lot an I
formation behind the Gustin out of the pistol, swings it
after the.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
Quit and fired it into the en zone. That time.
After he caught it and left flats was Owen Hunter.
Speaker 1 (54:42):
Nice little swing pass out near the five yard line
and Hunter did the rest avoiding defenders and then a
battle at the goal line and he woned owe Hunter,
the junior wide receiver, puts Wes Cathock back in front,
and Augustin has his second touchdown pass.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
To the ninth Well, they've wiped that clear out route
that this a flat route to the outside. Because the
defensive backs are playing so far off, Hunter's able to
slip down, catch the football and then turn up field.
Speaker 1 (55:10):
It's like they're gonna go for two here, Yeah, gustin
to the offense staying out there. Interesting formation. They go
four wide receivers to the right. They're gonna swee out
the Hunter again.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
Touchdown. He had trips blocking in front of him.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
He was way wide right and then came back to
the football for a little bubble scream with three blockers
out there. Zeeland West wasn't adjusted properly. They probably hadn't
seen that on film. And a nice job West Catholic
kind of saying, hey, we can do two point conversions
two and that's a big one to swing it now
twenty two to sixteen in favor of West Catholics.
Speaker 3 (55:41):
Well, they came and broke the huddle, did not send
Smith in the kicking unit out and Zealand West kind
of got caught off guard a little bit there because
they did not substitute in time. And then they break
it a wide formation, just spread them out in a
nice past the Hunter for the two point conversion. And
now West Catholic, that's a good call there. Why to
(56:04):
four point game when.
Speaker 2 (56:05):
They scored the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
An extra point does absolutely nothing, So you go for
two there to now forts Zealand West, who you know
does not kick extra points very often.
Speaker 2 (56:15):
If they do score, they will have to go for
two to break the top five yard touchdown pass. Grady Augustin,
the senior to Owen Hunter.
Speaker 1 (56:23):
That's fifty dollars more donated a Touchdowns for Kids campaign
and at sports season and this year folks kfps we
see more West for meals and support from schools and
community partners facing budget shortfalls. You can make into a
nation if you want to nourish local kids so they
can be their best kids. Food basket dot org. That's
kids food basket dot org. Ten forty three left to
go in this great Week nine season finale at these
(56:45):
two Homan fields.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
Inside is ten running to his right that had come.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
Back upfield to get to the midfield stripe to follow
his blockers and across to twenty five he has hit
and decked dropped to the twenty seven yard line. Big
hit on special teams a time by number thirty two
Hudson Perry Zealand.
Speaker 3 (57:02):
West now behind in the count after that first drive
by West Catholic. Now they it is their time to
answer and probably the worst field position that they've had.
Speaker 2 (57:13):
Yeah, the first possession. I mean, it's been a game
of field possession.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
And both teams have had pretty good starting spots and
Zealand West had to start into twenty to start their
first drive because of a touchback, but every other one
they've returned and home in that time was cut down early.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Remember Landon Smith is a weapon kicking off. We saw
that in the South Christian game at that time. Did
a nice job for a home and had to change
his field to go get it on first down in ten.
Speaking of Homan, number six gets to carry over the
right side defense, sticking him there the last game was
one of the first guys in there, and it's a
West Catholic defender down is that ju gem I believe
(57:49):
it is? Yes data three second and seven, that's j L.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
Jujim Actually, oh sorry, that is Yon, Yeah, oh.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
Yon rotating in. He's normally an offensive right on the
defensive side. We see that with Jacob Timbers tonight doo
for West Cathoic. We'll see how serious the injuries.
Speaker 2 (58:09):
We'll keep it right here. Third quarter being brought to
you by our Friends of Kids.
Speaker 1 (58:12):
We'd basket our official nonprofit again for the fourth year
with the Touchdowns for Kids campaign. We'll do baskets for
kids coming up with our high school basketball coverage on
both the boys and girls side, every touchdown sport during
our games of the week. This is the final week
of it. Fifty dollars donated by LMCU. We can't thank
them enough nourishing local kids like I mentioned to reach
their full potential. His landing grove is out there with
(58:35):
the trainers. They seem to be working on maybe the
right leg landing kind of shaking his head. So with
it time out of the field, it seems to be
a little more serious than we thought originally. We'll step
aside as well. Ten twenty four left to go into
third twenty two to sixteen, West Catholic over Zealand West
(58:55):
back with war from Falcons Stadium.
Speaker 2 (58:57):
After this on nainety six y to one, the game.
Speaker 1 (59:04):
Keo wus you back to West Catholic High School, Falcon
Stadium in an unhappy landing grow because Yon Jujem, who
is their starting offensive linem, rotated in on the defensive line.
They're the big fellow the junior has a right ankle injury.
He is not putting any weight on that bogo at all.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
Unfortunately for y'all, and I hope it is not serious,
but clearly he is not going to be coming back
anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
Second down and seven, back to the offensive attack Jonah
Leslie this time out of that single wing direct snap
and the full back, the big power back, powers his
way behind that offensive line out to the thirty five
before he shoved back there, he'll be about june yard short,
big third down here, mister Gino. Third and two as
we roll under ten minutes left to go in the
(59:46):
third quarter.
Speaker 3 (59:47):
Well, the question is are they going to go with
the single wing wildcat formation? Are they going to go
back with the normal straight tea And it looks like
Ali Breck's breaking going into the huddle, breaking away from
the sideline and getting the play call, so it means
it looks like it's gonna be a traditional.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Set for Zealand West.
Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
Five down linemen for Wes Cathock and they get to
stop here Zealand West from their own thirty five handoff
right side.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
It greats and got the first down.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
It was Noah Gillespie there with a tackle, but he's
about a yard late on the.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Rush. That time. Was junior running back Logan Nash's first carry.
How big was that? And they pick it up. They
needed to got about three first.
Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
Down a dead I join that to be on the sideline. Hey,
ball's got me. Yeah, I'm sorry what I'm getting the ball?
Okay because everybody else has been doing five. But a
really nice play there by Nash good blocking up one too.
They sealed the edge, They get the outside guy driven in,
give him the lane, and Nass.
Speaker 1 (01:00:49):
Picks it up that right side with the tight end
doing a nice job handoff. Mung Kun nowhere to go.
Stacked up, you don't want him to get started. Doesn't
take long for him to go to second and fourth
gear like that. Yeah, and they do a good job
of bottle up for only game of one.
Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
We got the big back in Leslie, you got the
home run hitter in Holman, and then you've got mun Koun,
just the very quick and elusive, keep you honest back.
I mean, if you look at how they lent up,
Munkom's in the middle, he's technically the fullback right, but
he's the smallest guy.
Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
Second down and nine, double tighten formation, straight t pitch
back to Holman breaks a tackle. Tough kid, and it
was Jujim that he broke the tackle from Jay eel
the linebacker, the leading tackler coming in. Got a couple
extra yards going forward to the forty five, So solid
pick up there. It's gonna set up third and a
(01:01:44):
long two maybe three here, buck gino.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Well, either way, it's going to be more of the
traditional stuff. Now, that's another wrinkle though even out of
the team right didn't see a lot of pitch. Play
is called by Gian Schilto.
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
I like this though. You come into the formation.
Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
It's not just the same stuff, but you're using your
athletes to the best of your ability, and it's doing
a really nice job of moving the football.
Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
Tonight, gain of six on second down by home it's
straight t again, double tight end set under center. Albrick
the junior quarterback takes the snaphand off Joe the Lesson,
the big back fighting for yardage. I don't think he's
gonna get there. Great job at the line of scrimmage.
They got him around the waist. That's how you have
to stop the big back and corralled him. And guess
who Connor Olzhevsky was there, a senior captain. They snuck
(01:02:29):
him up the line of scrimmage from his safety position.
Fourth down and two coming up for Zealand one.
Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
Well, coach Bollhouse. At least the indication is that they're
going to go for the first down. That time, Wes
Kathy winning the point of the tech, getting penetration over
the center. That took Leslie out of his ringing lane
and they were able to tack home down.
Speaker 1 (01:02:47):
Look at nine guys in the box. You're on fourth
and two, Leslie, play action all Brick thrown on the.
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Flats, got his man Holman. They go to number six
when they need a.
Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
Big play, and he's got it across the midfield stripe
to the four seven yard line. Nice play fake that
time to Leslie Will He sucked in the linebackers and
then it just give home in more space on the
far sideline.
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
First and ten ducks.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Well, Leslie, the unfortunate recipient of the fake, just got
absolutely buried.
Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
And then everybody's like, well, where's the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
It's not here, and the quarterbacks still has it, and
then Holman just slips out into the flat picks up
the first down. An excellent play call, but boy, Albrick
to cool is a cucumber.
Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
That's a pressure play and he made it look easy.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
They needed to they got seven through the air that time,
all Brick to Holman play fake. Albrick's got on his hip,
but he's not gonna get wide. He's gonna lose yard
as ju Jem was there first, but it was gonna
least be to finish him off. Back across the other
side of the fiftieth the.
Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
Forty nine of Zealand West.
Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
Yeah, and again penetration the name of the game all bricks. Usually,
if you can get that ball hid, they don't able
to attack you. But because the defensive line had broken in,
they kind of saw through that and they were able
to pursue him to the side and knock him down
for a loss. So again with West Catholic, just so
(01:04:07):
tough up front. If you're Zealand West, just one guy
can ruin the play. In that time, the defensive end
breaking in Knox Albrick back.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
For a loss.
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
About number zero senior on senior night, Noah Gillespie having
a night play action, Albrick look out utterso Duress breaks
a tackle along to his left, fires and almost intercepted.
Gillspie was there to knock it away. The intended receiver
that time was the tight end over there. Number eight
Marshall Johnson, Well.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
This is now a third and long situation.
Speaker 3 (01:04:37):
Zealand West giving up penetration to the West Catholic defensive
line three or four times now there's been a West
Catholic player in the backfield. Didn't see who got the
pressure initially on Alibrechs couldn't bring him down, but flushed
him from the pocket, and then he made a rush
throw in the middle of the field, and he's very
lucky that Lesbie was only able to knock it down
(01:04:58):
and not pick.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
It off throwing it thirteen.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
Zealand West from their own forty nine, trailing by six
twenty two to sixteen. All Brick under center, straight t formation,
quick handoff to I believe Holman over the left side.
Didn't get much stacked up for a short game.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
At the forty nine. So now fourth and eleven coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
We got our first final inbuck Gino and Unique Christian
will not finish the season in a perfect nine to zero.
They lose to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep tonight thirty four
to twenty five to the final.
Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
Yeah, they started that one a little bit earlier in
Crusader Country. So eight and one still a fine season
for the series and still will be the number one
seed in the district.
Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
Fourth and eleven Zealand West offense out there, will they
do a quick kick now Allbreck drops back.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
That's what they tend to do a lot of times,
and they'll.
Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
Kick it away so no one could be back defensively,
old Shechevski will try to run it down, builds inside
his tenth. The eight comes near side, breaks the tackle,
breaks another one and then finally knocked out of bounds.
Wes Cathay wanted a late hit there, but he didn't
bring him down. One of the linemen downfields. They're gonna
say ol Schevsky across the fifteen, just shy the twenty.
(01:06:10):
They'll spot him at the eighteen, so Olshevsky.
Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
Hustled back there.
Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
After they drop back a little bit more to that
short punt formation with their quarterback who was their kicker
and Drew Albrech. But how about the West Catholic defense
getting a big stop there and they've got the lead
by six.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Well, this is a big drive for both teams.
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
This could be the pivotal one because with four p
fifty two to go in the third, West Catholic and
Zealand West have done a good job of taking clock
off of the scoreboard even if they don't score. If
you're Zealand West, you feel like you got to get
a stop here after you were stopped, because you are
gonna be chasing too many points if you let the
Falcons get another touchdown on the board.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
This kid's played a whale of a night tonight not
sharing the load in the backfield. That's Colin Abert over
the right side, takes it out to the twenty gave
of two second and a but forty three has been
a beast tonight offensively as now Grady Augustin, looking over
Landing Groves signals in the play they got two wide
deceived to the right, to the left, one back to
the back of his Abram out of the pistol formation.
(01:07:10):
Gusta takes the snap, fires and out Peterson. He's been
his go to target on those out routes in that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
Time across the thirty five after the thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
Eight yard line, enough to move the chains first and dead.
Nice game of eighteen, I'll tell you, Augustin on senior
night has been right on the march tonight with those masses.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
Well, and what they do is they get piers and
wind up advantageous smash up.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
He's got the safety over him, so plenty of cushion,
and they.
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
Clear out with the deep route from the outside that
brings the safety over just a little bit, and then
Pearson slips underneath and picks up eighteen.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
They go with a wing back wild man stacked to
the right, fake to Abram. Augusta wants to run and
he's just gonna get down wisely, because about to take
his head off on that far edge was Mason Myers,
the defensive tackle. He'll drop for a loss inside the
thirty five to the thirty four. I mean number fifty
smelled that one out of you right there staying home
on the backside.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
Well, and like you said, he just went down. I mean,
Mason was gonna bring him down.
Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
But Augustin saw that and said, well, we don't really
need to get hit that HRHD and we'll just.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
Live to play another one. Takes the three yard loss.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
Second and fourteen from their own thirty five. Agustin back
to pass again, steps up with the pocket, fires a
strike embody and ripped away but out of bounds at
the forty four yard line on the coverage that time
was to fix Simea for Zealand West. But a nice
game there, and Augustin don't have his numbers in front
of us, so trying to get his final numbers. But
(01:08:35):
he hasn't missed too many tonight bugs, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Well, and they've just had so much cushion underneath for
Zealand West because they don't want to get beat deep
and they're running single high safety so they know that
they don't have any.
Speaker 1 (01:08:46):
Help over the top manageable third and five and that
one fired a little bit behind him, but he should
have had a cal Peterson on the sit down curl
route near the sticks at about the forty eight. So
now fourth down and five and see in the West
dnswer with a stop defensively, here comes the punt team
out for West Catholic landon Grove.
Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
Just grimaces because that's a first down. If he catches
the ball and Peterson knows it, you don't have to
yaw ad him. He knows what happened there, and unfortunate,
but again we got remember that they are fifteen to
eighteen year old kids playing this.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
Game, and he's got to shake it off because he's
the punter right, good snap gets it away, high wobbly spiral,
fair catch called for and made by Albrick at the
twenty Great job by Peterson on the punt team. And
with three thirty left to go into third, back and
forth we go. Now defensive stops match to the second half.
Twenty two to sixteen. West Catholic leads it over Zealand
(01:09:39):
West to the Ducks will go back on offense.
Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
Here let's go to the rapid radio scoreboard.
Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Eric Grassman checking in twenty eight to eight Holland Christian
in a must win situation to try to extend their
season in the playoffs. Up right now on brad Rapids Christian,
who is in at five and three and six minutes
left to.
Speaker 2 (01:09:56):
Go into the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
There a very good effort by David Aberger the Maroons
knowing that their backs were against the wall, and like
I said Coach Sunberg, just because they were in, they
weren't going to be complacent.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
But Holland Christian seems to be on a mission tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:10:11):
Zealand West going back old school straight t formation and
off jodah Leslie powered his way still.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
On his feet. I lost him there for a minute because.
Speaker 1 (01:10:19):
He lowered the shoulder and then bounced off and continued
to run across the twenty five in between. The hash
is hard running there, and they'll give him forward progress
to the twenty seven yard line, and I.
Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
Thought I thought he was down around the twenty five,
but kept the legs churning. Yep, a couple of extra
yards and I think that's what you're gonna see here
from Zealand West.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
A lot more is like I taught old school.
Speaker 3 (01:10:45):
I mean there's already old school, but I mean this
is just Zealand West football. You go to the sideline,
if you're the quarterback, you pick up the play and
you come out as a T formation and you just
run what you've been successful with ever since John Schilto
started the programming.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
Second to long three double tight end said tight splits
on the offensive line. Joe and leslie over the left sides,
got the first down, tripped up as he crossed the
thirties after the thirty three and here we go, winding
a clock, two thirty and ticket left to go. Third
quarter West Catholic twenty two Zealand West sixteen ducks with
the football and Buck Gino wanter minor audience. Don't forget
(01:11:20):
hard to believe it's week nine already. What great weather
we've had. Hopefully knock on wood will continue for the playoffs.
But the MHSA playoffs come up next weekend. We'll be
out Friday night with week one coverage and selection Sunday,
two days away, five o'clock MHSA dot Com on the
NFHS Network.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
Has it'd be very interesting to see who gets in.
Still a lot of spots to be decided tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Albrick under center, barking out the signals, quick candoff fullback
and up ended. Boy, if he got past that first line,
he might have been off to the races. It was
Niko Munkoun, the full back.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
I mean he's still picked up six yards. Yeah, that's
what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
He falls forward in like leaps with his athletics as
so he's got three four yards. He's out to the
thirty eight yard line, gain him five second and five.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
Well, nice job there by Moncoon on first down. And
that's what you got to do.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
If you're Zealand West, I mean first and ten to
second and five, you've really got the defense in the palm.
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Of your hand. If you're doing that, boy, how about
just going back old school.
Speaker 1 (01:12:20):
Albrick under center, double tight end, straight t formation, hand
off Holman from left to right, Wildman hanging on for
dear life, dragging him down from behind, but not before
he got the first down. Tough run for number six.
Gotta be tough for that Holman family, his older brother Parker.
We covered for so many years out to the forty
four to move the chains. First in ten and by
the way, on your way home tonight, fans, Now we
(01:12:42):
might be a little bit ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Of you, a lot ahead of you. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:12:45):
Catch scores, reports, and interviews from games across the OK
Conference by tuning into the Meyer High School scoreboards. Show
our final edition of the season coming up with Rick
Berkley the Crew on ninety six to one the game,
and also one oh seven m us the Moose, Jason
and Tom covering non conference battle but good one of
the West Michigan Conference crossover if you will, North Miskeigon
at Muskegon oat Bridge, first down in ten, Albrick takes
(01:13:06):
his snap to laid hand off in the backfield to
Homan number six on the counteraction, and.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
This time wild Man just like his name was wild
that time.
Speaker 1 (01:13:14):
In the backfield, holding the edge down no game, second
and ten up coming.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
O second ten lot dere than second and five. And
that's what you gotta do if you're West Catholic clock
running here. This will probably be the last play of
the third quarter. And it kind of feels like we're
getting down to the nitty gritty.
Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
Now. Zealand West had to have that stop last drive.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
They got it, but now with the way that they
are deliberate on offense, this one kind of feels like, boy,
you gotta get some points out of this one, because
giving the ball back to Wes Cathock is the way
they spread the field could be dangerous.
Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
Big Jake Timmer is in there at number seventy one
offensive lineman going to CMU next year, just to try
to clog things up against the big offensive line of
Zeeland West.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Pitch back to Homan right side.
Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
And on second and ten, still fighting for extra yarnage
across the midfield. All right, he's into West Catholic territory
down near the forty seven gate of nine. Third and
one coming up is now the officials kind of separating
everybody a little extracurricular and that's gonna take us to
the end of the third Quarterbuck Gino.
Speaker 2 (01:14:14):
What a game here on the west side at Falcon Stadium.
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
After three, it's Lest Catholic twenty two Zealand West sixteen
Ducks on the move. We come back after this on
ninety six to one the game final twelve minutes of
this one. Bucks, you know we're ready and it's lived
up to the billing. If you're just coming in. West
Catholic twenty two seel the Lest sixteen crucial third down
(01:14:40):
and one now for the Ducks on the move at
the Falcons forty seven yard line. Monk Coons split out.
They've sown this a couple of times of the double
wing back to the right side. They work for the
right hash. They go two guys in the backfield, kind
of like that cea Win said. It was all brick
and they direct snapped it to Holman, which we've seen
(01:15:02):
throughout the night. He's got the first down over the
right side. They love when they need a couple of
yards running over the right side of the offensive line.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
First in ten at the forty five Yeah, and they
show the double snap there, the double snap option. They
do snap into.
Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
Allerbrucks who were then hands it immediately to Holman, and
you're right when they need those extra yards or those
tough yards.
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Feels like it's been run to the right. Now. You
got the stoppage of play.
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
That gives us a time to tell you about Hey,
the wing tusey wing doosey fan of the game. Set
your redounds right now at six one, six four four
thirty seven seventy six. That six one, six four five
four thirty seven seventy six will tell you when to
be the correct caller.
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
But get that set to be our wing tuesy fan
of the game. To night.
Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
First down in ten and they were letting the pep
band know that they cannot play during live action.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Handoff, monk Koon nowhere to go.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
Drop maybe a yard at the forty four let's say
caller nine right now to our studio lines.
Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
Joe Erron'll take your calls.
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
Six one, six, four or five fourth forty seven to
seventy six at twenty five dollars. Gift guard to wing
Goosy on the line. You've already won this season. You're
not eligible until basketball season. Six one, six, four, five
four thirty seven seventy six color nine right now second
down and nine stacking the last scrimmage agains at West
Gallagy defense pitch back to home and right side, just
leg drive fighting his way inside the forty to the
(01:16:28):
thirty eight yard line. Third and short coming up for
Zeland West. And you know, we had that one turnover
for Zealand West. But other than that, it's been a
clean football game.
Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Even not a lot of penalties in this year.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
Yeah, Abram had the fumble that was recovered by his
own offense, right. Other than that, maybe a couple of
false starts.
Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
I don't think we've had any other penalties other than
the preseason.
Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
I bring it up because you have a feeling that
maybe a turnover will before the way to go.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Now we're going to have something happen.
Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
Good job Wrapp third counted three straight T fourmation stack
in the box again.
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
They pitched back Joe to Leslie in and he's not
gonna get there.
Speaker 1 (01:17:04):
Great job by the defense and one of the first
guys hitting him low with the penetration that sign for
West Catholic was Deacon Parslow, the sophomore linebacker.
Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
Again this both teams, both coaches rotating a lot of
people in.
Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
He has a cast of thousands tonight. As now they
rotate out, go to a little bit bigger lineup. They
put Timmer back out there to clog the lane to
the right. They're gonna play him on the defensive left
the offensive right side, knowing that Zealand West wants to
baby go that way.
Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
Cow bells are out here to the west side. Does
this have a playoff field? Buck gino? Here we go
fourth and a short free in West Catholic territory. They
go under center with all break and all break, had
the football off to the playfake.
Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Nice job, and he just tried to throw it out
Their incomplete West Catholic defensively holds.
Speaker 3 (01:17:59):
Really, the only decision now is did he throw the
football away by time or was he down? He didn't
get it past the line of scrimmage and he wasn't
outside the tackle box, So it's either intentional grounding or
he's gonna be called down at the spot.
Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
Of the throw.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
How about the sophomore linebacker coming and making two huge plays.
It was number thirty again, Deacon Parslow who slashed through.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
There was there a penalty or not? No, they're gonna
mark him down. Okay, he were down yeah before.
Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
I mean Parslow just came like shot out of a
cannon for a loss back to the forty seven yard line.
But turnover on downs West Cathay gets another stop this half,
first and ten.
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
They go back on the attack.
Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
Two wide receivers in a slot right one or receiver
short side left from the left ash. They're changing the
play at the last scrimmage, landing Grove and a signal
with in Colin ingram As, you're back in the backfield
behind Grady Augustin. Now give to forty three. He's run
tough tonight. He's been a solo action and over the
right side out to the field before he's ankle tackled there.
(01:19:03):
Give him free second and seven, and now can Zealand
West answer with a stop of their own defensively or returns?
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
Oh, they're gonna have to the way that both of
these teams have run through the clock.
Speaker 3 (01:19:13):
I mean that drive for Zealand West even though they
had no points with six minutes of time of possession. Wow,
And so they made their way down the field but
just could not break through. And now under nine minutes
to go in the fourth quarter of the clock becoming
West Catholic Friend.
Speaker 1 (01:19:27):
One hundred a slot left looking that way at Gunston,
takes a step, delivers breaking a tackle.
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
Up the sideline, look out inside the twenty and breaks the.
Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
Tackle and he's gonna take into the house. I thought
he might have been out of the far sideline, but
he wasn't. And how about Thomas puck stuff for a
West Catholic this first catch of the night and he
takes into the house for six to make it now
a twenty eight to sixteen ball game.
Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
Well, just the tackling there from Zealand, wellst we've seen
it pop up a couple of times, and that's gonna
be something that they're gonna have to try to address
next week. And maybe beyond is just you had pucks
at the sticks now it was gonna be a first down.
The defensive bag just does not bring him down and
actually doesn't even really move him anywhere, no, and just
(01:20:15):
kind of falls off.
Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
Of him and then pucks the sprints down the sideline.
Speaker 1 (01:20:18):
Safety had a shot too, and I thought he would
knock him on the bounds, but he couldn't.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Augustin now wants to go for two. They're gonna throw incomplete.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Landing Grove thought there was contact too early on the receiver.
They were looking at the post pattern for Peterson which
they hit earlier for six, and Landing Grove not happy.
Speaker 2 (01:20:35):
He thought the contact was early, no call.
Speaker 1 (01:20:37):
And with eight forty five and left to go in
the ballgame, our score now reads West Catholic twenty eight
Zealand West sixteen time out of the fields, Will step
is on as well. You're listening to a week non
edition of the LMCU High School Football Game of the
Week live here on ninety six to one. The game, well,
not only it's a fast Rube gay buntion know, but
(01:20:59):
the official aren't helping us out at all. They are
rolling Land and Smith line drive kick taking at the
twelve by Nico Munkoun and he runs it right up,
showing his speed across the thirty out to the forty
yard line before he's up ended there. So goodfield position
a kid to start this drive and they needed first
down and ten sealand the West as a trail for
the first time that night by double digits.
Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
Well, this is a critical drive now because they have
two scores to make up. Got to try to score
it quickly somehow, first.
Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
Down and ten, fake to Leslie al Brett calling his
own number number three, running around the left side, runs
into number seven Connor old Schefsky drives him back. Just
a hard hitting, physical game. Landing Grove said that to
us this week on the High School Football Preview. He said,
we're kind of being careful with guys like those Sheepskins said.
He goes, they want to win this game because we
lost last year. But it's also a physical game just
(01:21:47):
because the two teams remember sealand West to defending Division
three state champs.
Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
Buck Well, and they did not play each other during
the scrimmage because of course playing during the regular season.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
I don't need to do that. Boy, that would have
been probably pretty physical too. Drew all but a gain
of five.
Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
Now they go back to the single wing look home
and on the direct snap over the right side, gonna
be stopped just short of the first down mark at
the forty nine. So it's going to be third and
one coming up as we roll under eight minutes left
to go. All kinds of scores coming in. The Rapid
Radio Scoreboard Update thirty one seven Byron Center down in Illinois,
(01:22:24):
starting the fourth quarter. How about this one. It's got
an update from Adam Baxter. He's at the Catholic Central
and South Christian game. South Christian now taking the lead.
Austin Purchas two yard run late in twenty one to
fourteen the Sailors over the Cougars.
Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
Well, I mean they were going to be in the
playoffs regardless, but Danny Brown trying to get them in
on a high note.
Speaker 1 (01:22:43):
Direct snap again home and right side, and he's got
a lead blocker picking his way inside of West Catholic territory,
inside the Falcons forty five and down to the forty
two yard line. Another freshet of downs moves to chains
first and ten seven thirteen. They'll stop the block momentarily
until they set the chains.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
Then they'll roll it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:02):
Twenty eight sixteen Falcons by twelve. But here comes Zealand
West right back, trying to answer.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
Why Zealand West is trying This is about his hurry
up as they're gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:23:12):
Get out of the short shotgun al Breck wants to throw,
trying to air it out double coverage and oh he's
lucky that to get picked off looking for a home
and then safety help was over there by number seven
Connor ol Chefsky.
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
You know his eyes got big on that one. Yeah,
and that's where all Breck just they're not a passing team.
Speaker 3 (01:23:34):
Yes, he can throw the ball and does have some
talent there, but just doesn't read Olszewsky bracketing home and
over the top, and he throws it late in Olzewsky
Like you said, I was like dinner plate. Oh thought
he was gonna be able to get over there, but
the ball just kept drifting away and bounces harmlessly on
the grass.
Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
Fourth quarter beating brought to you by Wing Tuesy.
Speaker 1 (01:23:55):
We'll talk about our Wing Tuosy fan of the game
here for week nine coming up, but named the best
Chicken Way you know, all those fries for multiple years
here in West Michigan.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
Check out Wing Goosey one of their two locations.
Speaker 1 (01:24:05):
Maybe get some wings this weekend for the great college
football state coming up tomorrow. Now, Holman on the fake
hand off that time to Albrick, who's normally the quarterback,
then tried to run underneath and he ran into a
wall of green that time. Boy, that defense in front
has done a nice job. They've stacked the box there,
taking it tough to run. He's losing yardage on that
plate to the forty three third and eleven coming up
(01:24:27):
block continues to whind six thirty and ticking left to.
Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
Go on this one.
Speaker 3 (01:24:30):
Yeah, well, this was definitely two down territory. So if
you Zealand West, you don't have to pick up all
eleven here, so play.
Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
Call can be still a run.
Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
This the formation with Albrick, They've got two wingbacks stacked
to the right, home and back through as well.
Speaker 2 (01:24:45):
Now bake to Homan. Albrick wants to.
Speaker 1 (01:24:47):
Throw under some pressure, lookout just gonna throw him it
incomplete and he was ripped down?
Speaker 2 (01:24:52):
Was that Gillespie? It was on the backside.
Speaker 1 (01:24:55):
Noah, Gillespie number zero has played a whale of the
game tonight, not his senior night.
Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
Look at the West Catholic players on the.
Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
Near sideline, Grady Augustin cheering on the defense. They got
this crowd to their feet, fourth down eleven. Can they
get a stop to try to ice this one away?
Twenty eight to sixteen. The Falcons leaded over Zealand West.
Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
Certainly not over, but it feels like if Zealand West
doesn't get it here, Brett could be the ballgame. I
know there's still six minutes on the clock, but the
way that Wes Kathick has played depends in the second half,
holding the Ducks a scoreless.
Speaker 2 (01:25:28):
Very impressive so far.
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
Two time reigning OK White Division champs coming at seven
to one.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Love to finish it off at eight to one.
Speaker 1 (01:25:37):
In Division five, direct snap home and left side brakes, a.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
Couple tackles, he's got the first down. How about number six?
With an answer?
Speaker 1 (01:25:46):
He was hit about three yards short at the thirty
five and I think he did the punishing that time.
Speaker 3 (01:25:51):
Lord the shoulder first to ten Ducks. Well, they catch
West Catholic off guard. Everybody think it's fourth and thirteen,
it's going to be a pass play, and there's just
nobody in the middle of the field, and he just
takes the direct snap, runs right up the middle. Good
blocking up front, and then he does the rest with
his legs and his string.
Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
Eight guys in the box here on first and ten,
play action, all Brick going to his left, squares his shoulders,
firing and hauling it in. But I think he was
out of bounds Homan on that catch. Oh wait, are
they gonna say he got a foot in? No? It
didn't okay, all right. I saw him walking down the sideline.
I'm like, wait a minute. He was clearly and there's
nothing home I could do. He tried to stay and bounds,
but the pass by Albrick was just fading out.
Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
Into the I mean, the holeman would have had to
try to stop right.
Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
They try to get his feet in bounds, and that
would have made it so that he wasn't able to
catch the ball. Just a tough one there. Albrick thrown
in to the boundary. He throws it just a little
bit earlier. That's the first down, second and ten clock stop.
Speaker 1 (01:26:49):
With the incompletion five thirty eight, they worked from the
right hatch out of the pistol formation again, but they
direct snapped to home and Homean just full speed ahead,
lowers his shoulder inside the twenty five delivers a hit
to the twenty four yard line pickup of six. But
the key with that is the clock keeps moving. They're
down two scores, twenty eight to sixteen. Congratulations by the way.
(01:27:09):
Tonight's Week nine wing Doosey fan of the game, Nick
Eye is scary. He's a pent Water buck gino. But
listening down in Hamilton tonight. Thank you, Nick, congratulations you
got twenty five dollars gift guard to wing Doozy Holman
direct snap right side with the lead block, breaks out
of the tackle, got the first down.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
By his number six. Impressive the junior running hard tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
He's inside the West Catholic twenty down to the seventeen.
Speaker 3 (01:27:34):
Yeah, Doug Gillespie on the outside kind of just does
a dosey dough with him as Holman just runs right
past them. Gillaspie thought he had him, but then tried
to just arm tackle him and found out how difficult
that was gonna be. Holman just such a strong runner,
runs upright, but Man just punishing.
Speaker 1 (01:27:52):
All brick now, no check that that as Jonah Leslie
ye back there with Holman on the direct snap, they
rotate him in.
Speaker 2 (01:27:59):
Monk Coon was over as the wing back to the right.
Speaker 1 (01:28:02):
Side powers his way with the big back inside the fifteen.
Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
Are they going to mark him right at the fifteen.
Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
It's always been difficult enough, Yeah, Zealand West games trying
to figure out who has the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
But now they have all these direct snaps and different things, and.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
It's like covering menomine, which was Catholic fans know about
the up.
Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
They got different guys playing quarterback. Yeah wow.
Speaker 1 (01:28:25):
They give him just inside the fifteen, shy the fourteen,
but we'll call it a gain of four second and six.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Two backs in there.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
And now Jonahless is gonna be the lead blocker for
Home and who takes a direct snap and he's close
to another first down, rambling inside the ten down to
the eighth.
Speaker 2 (01:28:41):
I tell you what.
Speaker 1 (01:28:42):
It makes it interesting too as far as how you
can use those extra guys as blockers, like I wouldn't
want to take on Jonah Leslie as the lead block
if you're a linebacker standing in the hole, right.
Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
Yeah. And they're also bringing in the h back Marshall Johnson,
who is a big, big boy at the tight end.
Speaker 3 (01:28:56):
He's actually the h back or the lead back now,
so he brings in an extra element as well.
Speaker 1 (01:29:02):
And he's right over the left card on this play handoff.
Now Homeman crashing inside the five, fighting towards the goal line.
Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
They'll stand him up at the three.
Speaker 1 (01:29:12):
This Catholic defense, good job there, because what they're doing
is making the clock run on the stop again. Was
the sophomore linebacker Teaking Parcelows had a heck of a
second half.
Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
Yeah, like you said, they've been rotating guys in and out.
Try to keep them trash out only for this week,
but and beyond. But boy, just now it's pressure time here.
Don't see a lot of guys rotating in.
Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
First a goal for the.
Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
Three homean left side, no following Leslie who didn't really
block any buddy, He got tackled from the backside that
time they came around the ends.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
Yeah, Leslie got a little bit deep there and they
basically just walked around him as Leslie was looking to
block somebody at the point of attack.
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Yeah, it was Massi wicks from that time. Now hand
direct snap again to Holman and I think we was
Cathic fans are saying they weren't even that really. On
second and goal, there's still short though, correct me, That
was correct myself. That was Mongkoon yep on the carry
left side.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
So they get it to the two.
Speaker 1 (01:30:11):
Here we go third and goal, taking a lot of time.
Good job at this West Catholic defense. Two forty articular
to go.
Speaker 2 (01:30:18):
Well that's it.
Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
I mean, really, if you're Zealand West, even if you're
able to get in here, probably gonna be an on
side kick now, because you've taken that much time off
the ball brick.
Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
They go straight t under center handoff homean right side.
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Did he get in balls down, balls down, ball came
out in the end zone or did he break the plane?
Speaker 1 (01:30:37):
That's the discussion, and they say West Catholic football. As
he was going towards a goal line home and got stripped.
West Catholic recovered it. Couldn't see who came up with
it for the Falcons, but they get the stop nonetheless
and now can go to.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
Work on that clock, up two scores with two twenty
two left to go. Well, I said, I saw the
ball down. I didn't see the ball down, but I saw.
Speaker 3 (01:31:01):
The far officials from the wing throw the bean bag
as soon as he got to the hash mark, so
we knew the ball was down from that point.
Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
Like you said, Brett, the question was did he get
over the plane of the goal line. Clearly he did not.
Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
But if they are marking at the twenty because it
was recovered in the end zone, so it's a touchback
for West Catholic, which means they get it out to
the twenty, which is a big, big advantage because otherwise
they would have been backed up against their own goal line.
Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
Instead, they get it out at the twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:31:37):
First down in ten they work out of the pistol
formations again, Colin eDRAM to the left of Augusta.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
Now penalty play comes out as this one was getting started.
Speaker 1 (01:31:45):
Math and radio scoreboard update Byron Center up thirty one
thirteen early in the fourth quarter down in Morris, Illinois.
Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
I don't think we have had a post snap penalty.
I think every flag that we've had to Brett was
a false start or an off set.
Speaker 1 (01:32:03):
I want to correct myself too, because I read a
score wrong. As far as the South Christians sold Austin
Burgess touchdown made it a twenty one fourteen game. Still
Catholic Central leading by seven. Now what Noah's Zania and
we saw him last week in Northview. Twenty five yard
field go makes it twenty four to fourteen Catholic Central
with just over eight minutes left to go. There.
Speaker 3 (01:32:24):
We won't I mean, you have your secret source at
Catholic Central. We won't reveal who it is. But I
don't think he would ever type it that Catholic Central
was down and off.
Speaker 1 (01:32:32):
Colin Abram left side rambling as he gets free into
the secondary of Zealand. Last out across the forty to
the forty one yard line. Tack on sixteen more fresh
set of downs, So work on that clock first and
ten West Catholic and Zealand West.
Speaker 3 (01:32:45):
Even though with the three timeout it's a two score game,
this one is academic at this point. Big run for
Abram and a tremendous performance by him tonight. Twenty of
ballots still to be had for the off defensive player
in the game because we've got a lot of choices Brett,
but Rowin Abram could be right up there.
Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
See Little West.
Speaker 1 (01:33:06):
Won this game of year ago thirty four to twenty,
and talking to Land and Grove, he said his kids
want a little revenge here, even though they.
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
Know it doesn't really mean anything for you the team.
Speaker 1 (01:33:15):
They're both going to the playoffs, but hey, they're the
defending Division three champs. And now drop down to the
backfield was a running back, but we're gonna have a
little extra curricular as the flag coming out.
Speaker 2 (01:33:24):
This is going to be after the play as well.
I think it was it wild man on the handoff
that time, you know how I was watching the dance
in the defensive backfield.
Speaker 1 (01:33:35):
But I did not see it is going to be
against by the way Seeland West.
Speaker 2 (01:33:39):
I think it was all break. Yeah, he was hanged
up with timmer.
Speaker 1 (01:33:43):
Yep and he was a little I think upset because
he was getting blocked down field, but little frustration.
Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
I think at this point.
Speaker 3 (01:33:53):
This will be marked off fifteen yards and a automatic
first down.
Speaker 1 (01:33:58):
The loss of the on the running play was two
yards back to the thirty nine, so they'll mark it
from there because it was after the play, as you
mentioned Buck, so unnecessary roughness grasping the face masks.
Speaker 2 (01:34:15):
It's gonna be called against all breaks.
Speaker 1 (01:34:17):
So they'll mark off fifteen after the play was done
from the thirty nine, So this should take it into
Zealand West territory at what the forty six?
Speaker 2 (01:34:28):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:34:30):
I thought you ast the mere jo on the play,
but either way, it's gonna be an automatic first down.
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
Right, you didn't lose enough for that to happen, but.
Speaker 3 (01:34:36):
It's an automatic first down for the Falcons and now
the clock will run.
Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
Wow, they marked at the forty four. I mean, yeah,
at this point, I just throw it down somewhere to
run the clock exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
Now we're gonna stop the clock.
Speaker 3 (01:34:52):
Yeah, of course we get we get all the way here,
and then we gotta get we gotta get the.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
Same I mean, come on, it's a minute twenty six,
let's just run.
Speaker 1 (01:35:00):
Well, you know what they're doing me a favor because
I can remind everyone we got the discount to or
post game show coming up before we get.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
To the minor scoreboard show.
Speaker 1 (01:35:08):
And in that bu Gino will selected tonight's offensive player
of the game, brought to you by Uptown Chiefs Hit.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
I'll select our defensive player the game.
Speaker 1 (01:35:14):
Tough choices tonight, especially with all the players rotating on
both sides, But our defensive player the game each week
brought to you by Montel Construction. We've got our currets
clients defendable player of the game as well. We'll try
to take care of some seniors on both sides tonight.
End of the regular season. But what a football game.
First down and ten one thirty four left to go.
West Catholic has a football on up twelve twenty eight
(01:35:34):
to sixteen.
Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
But it has not been that easy. Let me tell you.
That's been the biggest lead for either team all night.
Speaker 3 (01:35:40):
Well, they're probably gonna take a time out here and
get some seniors in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:35:44):
I think that's what Landon is going to do.
Speaker 3 (01:35:47):
Kind of gave the nod over to coach Bollhouse on
the other side, telling them, hey, I'm just doing this
so I can get guys in the game and take
a time out because there's a lot of folks migrating
to the field that either they they've played sparingly tonight
or they have not played at all.
Speaker 1 (01:36:02):
Well, I remember, both teams too want to save some bodies,
right because they've got playoff actually yep, next week.
Speaker 3 (01:36:08):
And also a good chance for coach Grove to go
over and say, hey, we don't need to get silly here,
let's just end this thing and execute the last two plays.
Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
So West Catholic will move to eight and one and.
Speaker 3 (01:36:22):
Be solidly in the second position for the Division five
playoff points race, right, dealing West Football to six and three.
But I feel like they still will be the second
seed in the district that they are placed into unless
there's some seismic movements in who actually enters the playoffs
and where they're located. So both teams, like I said,
(01:36:44):
I mean at the end, they were win or lose.
They were going to end up in the same spots,
but does get them ready for the playoffs and a
lot of guys got to play on both sides, So
overall a good exercise for both teams. At West Catholic,
I think this was a big confidence spoost for them
because they know they're going to have that team in
blue and white in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:37:05):
Right, who is very physical?
Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
We got a very physical Yeah, and this is a
team Zealand West, at least on the front Lions that
is very similar to Catholic exception.
Speaker 2 (01:37:14):
Wildman in motion now from left to right.
Speaker 1 (01:37:16):
Cato was in their hand off to Julian over the
left side as job picking his way from positive got.
Speaker 2 (01:37:21):
Us to the forty yard line. Skim mcgaino four that
he was just happy they didn't run a pitch play
that time.
Speaker 1 (01:37:28):
Julian and Cato will be the guy that will rotate
in next year with Olshefsky graduating. Remember Colin Abram coming
back in Alvski as a senior, gonna get maybe a
Carrie here coming in.
Speaker 2 (01:37:39):
Well, at least he's I think he's just gonna play safety.
Speaker 1 (01:37:42):
Yeah, on the deal down, You're right, he just was
talking about whatever you do do touch the ball, deal
with little sprain injury tonight, so just play it on
the defensive side. But number seven is one to watch.
He's special, folks. Connor Olshefsky had a great career here.
Second down and si and there's a snap to Grady
Augustin takes a knee victory formation and the clock gonna
(01:38:05):
run out. And the seniors from West Catholic on Senior
Night here at Falcons Stadium don't disappoint the home standing fans,
huge crowd for this one, as they're gonna win it
tonight by a final of twenty eight to sixteen over
Zealand the West. And as buck Gino mentioned, Wes Catholic
will finish the regular season at eight in one. You're outright, okay,
White Division champs for the second year in a row.
(01:38:26):
Zeland the West will finish the year at six and three.
Remember the Ducks in Division IREE coming up selection Sunday,
West Catholic in Division five.
Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
Well, after the break, we'll come back, maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
Here from Rick Burkey on some scores and building up
for the minor scoreboard show.
Speaker 2 (01:38:41):
But we got the discount door postgame show coming your way.
Speaker 1 (01:38:44):
As you're listening to an LMCU high school football game
of the Week action.
Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
Here on Friday night, brought to you by our friends.
Speaker 1 (01:38:50):
At Lake Michigan Credit Union, exclusively here on ninety six
to one.
Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
The game.
Speaker 4 (01:38:57):
Back in the ninety six one starts Rick Burkey getting
gear up for the Meyer High School scoreboard show. We'll
have scores reports from around the area, a couple of
interesting scores already. One of the four undefeated teams West
Michigan has already lost tonight, and another one is being threatened.
In the Oka Red Granville is threatening Hudsonville's perfect record,
but Hudsonville has the lead twenty eight to twenty five
with five and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter. Again,
(01:39:20):
Hudsonville twenty eight, Grandville twenty five. The one undefeated that
did go down tonight. Unity Christian, in an early start
took on a powerhouse Pontiac Notre Dame Prep team from
the east side of the state, and Notre Dame Prep
defeated Unity Christian, first loss of the season for the
Crusaders by account of thirty four to twenty five. Another final,
we'll hear a detailed report from Lucas simbol on Hopkins
(01:39:41):
beating Fruitport tonight twelve to seven, and the implications of
both teams as far as making the playoffs. Rockford trying
to gain a share of the OKA Red title. Should
Granville knock off Hudsonville Rockford wins tonight, then they would
be co champions in the OKA Red. Rockford leading Big
forty nine to nothing in early fourth a running clock
at Rockford. That's situation there though, back to their postgame show,
(01:40:04):
Breton Buck summaring up a big win for West Catholic
on the home of the Falcons field.
Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
All right, thank you, Rick and forward looking forward to
the Myer Scoreboard Show final edition. We ended the regular
season with Brick and all of our game reporters. Then
Bunk and I and of course the Lake Shore crew
will be on our own next week for the MHSA playoffs.
And before we get into our postgame scoring summary, as
we welcome to the Discount Door postgame Show presented by
(01:40:29):
Discount Door, a family owned and locally operative business here.
Speaker 2 (01:40:32):
In Grand Rappitts for over thirty years.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
They do residential and commercial ground stores as well as
any repairs and maintenance too, which is key discount Door
get a free quote on a lone of discount doorgr
dot com or by calling them at six one sixty
three sixty three fifty six ninety two. We want to
remind people that normally you could catch back in the
days on Fox Sports Detroit and Bally and now it
is fan duel the action as far as the MHSA
(01:40:54):
Playoffs selection Sunday, and it would vary on times bet
if there's a Pistons game or a Red Wings game.
Speaker 2 (01:40:59):
That is not going to be the key this year.
Speaker 1 (01:41:00):
So we can't get the word out enough from our
friends at the MHSA and Mark Eule that the MHSA
dot com is a great resource. And if you are
a subscriber to the NFHS network to watch games and everything,
like I know Buck you are, then you can catch it.
Five o'clock is the start time tomorrow, so be looking
MHSA dot com. That's what I'm gonna be doing because
(01:41:20):
they post him as soon as they go through with
the live broadcast.
Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
But that'll be five o'clock tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (01:41:25):
We'll see where all the area teams that we've been
covering all season long, Lake Shore or Gear are going
to go and play in their respective divisions.
Speaker 3 (01:41:32):
Yeah, still a lot of things to be shaken out,
Like you said, some early games that are done and
those that will shape the playoff picture as well. But
always a good time on section Sunday. I want to
say we've ruined it, you know, with well with all
the knowledge that we have. And you know, I like Snooze.
He does a great job.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
He's a great ambassador for the game of high school football.
Speaker 3 (01:41:52):
It's it's almost like it's the na come actic now,
like everybody kind of knows that there's some change. There
are some changes for sure, but and things happening to
it's not, as you know, it's not like it was
before where people literally didn't they had no clue where
they were gonna do the districts and how they're gonna
draw them out. But either way, it's it's a great
day for high school football because teams that make it,
(01:42:15):
they find out whether their season is going to continue.
And I talked about this with a lot of people
tonight and and throughout the week. We get to keep going,
These teams get to keep going. But fifty of the
teams tonight, Brett, there are gonna be a lot of
the last football games for guys tonight. So emotions run
the whole gamut from joyful to the West Catholic Falcons.
Speaker 2 (01:42:39):
They're gonna move on, Zealand West.
Speaker 3 (01:42:41):
Not super happy tonight, but they know coach Ballhouse knows
his staff knows they're gonna go on, so they can't
get two down. But there are gonna be other games.
We're gonna talk about that Hopkins fruit Port game. Some
of those guys after tonight aren't gonna play any more football,
and so there we just do I want to remember
that too, because everybody remembers their last high school game.
Speaker 2 (01:43:00):
You remember your last high school game. I remember my
last high school athletic event. Everybody does. And that is
going to be happening tonight for a lot of guys.
Speaker 3 (01:43:08):
So even though we're talking about selection Sunday tonight, there's
still a lot of things to be shaken out and
a lot of teams still maybe holding out hope that
their name is going to be called on Sunday and
tune in at five o'clock on MHSA dot com or
the NFAHS network and you get to see if your
team lives to play another day.
Speaker 1 (01:43:27):
And then as we go through the high school football
playoffs Monday morning, Wood Radio West, Michigan's Morning News.
Speaker 2 (01:43:32):
I'm the sports reporter for that. During my sports.
Speaker 1 (01:43:35):
Updates, I will let you know every Monday where our
crews are going to be. Buck and I on ninety
six to one in the game on that given Friday
or Saturday, depending on how deep we are in the playoffs.
Same thing with Tom Kenra and Jason Hutton with our
Lake Shore game of the week. We discuss those in
announcements to every Monday Morning, you'll know where we're going
to be, including this Monday after selection Sunday twenty eight
to sixteen the final Here tonight, Wes Catholic wins at
(01:43:57):
home on their senior night over Zealidle West to their
arrival now twenty eight to sixteen to twelve point victory.
Let's take you through the numbers and this one and
here with our final scoring summary, brought to you by
MKD Funeral Homes, is our own Buck Gino.
Speaker 2 (01:44:11):
Well Zealand West started off this game, We're really with
a bang.
Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
It was a very long and drawn out process, but
a nine minute and forty five second opening drive for
the Ducks eighty yards sixteen plays, four yard touchdown pass
from Albreck to Leslie capta drive and it was eight
to nothing after a Holman two point conversion. Wes Catholic answered,
going right back down the field of their own drive
(01:44:35):
twelve yard touchdown pass from Augustin to Peterson, and it
was eight to seven Ducks after that because Wes Catholic
kicking the traditional one point extra points. West Catholic then
getting a turnover and turning that into points. Seven yard
touchdown run by Colin Abram Smith added the pat again
fourteen to eight in favor of the Falcons, but Zealand
(01:44:56):
West was not done quite yet. They score in the
half of a minute nine to go three yard touchdown
run by Holman. He also ran into two point conversion,
and at the half it was sixteen to fourteen in
favor of the Ducks.
Speaker 2 (01:45:09):
But then the Falcons turned.
Speaker 3 (01:45:11):
Up the heat defensively and also got some contributions offensively
from some different players. Third quarter, first drive Augustin to
Hunter from ten yards out and then another touchdown for Augustin,
his second of the game. Hunter then catching a two
point conversion pass from Augustin, and it was twenty two
(01:45:32):
to sixteen after that, and then West Catholic scoring in
the fourth quarter to put the cap around a fifty
yard touchdown pass from Augustin to Puckstap. They did not
make the two point conversion on that attempt, but no matter.
They win the game tonight Falcons twenty eight and Ducks sixteen.
Speaker 1 (01:45:50):
You talked about high school sports and memories. We just
saw one right there. A tradition they're starting here. It
looks like at wes Cathock. I don't know how long
they've been doing it, but they have the seniors lined
up shouldered his shoulder. They start at the goal line
and they go out to the fifty yard line in Unison,
all kinds of snapping, the pictures and photos and the
phones were out by the parents, especially in the coaches,
and then at the fifty yard line they all go
(01:46:12):
down and sort of like you see with Michigan State
basketball players kissing the Spartan, they kiss the fifty yard
line here at Falcons Stadium. A senior night tradition for
the Falcons who win it here again twenty eight to sixteen.
Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
That's our final scoring. Some of the night.
Speaker 1 (01:46:25):

Skate Offensive Player of the Game, our Montel Constructions Defensive
Player of the Game. What about our Garrets Appliance Dependable
Player of the Game. Before we get you fired up
with Rick Burkey, the Hall of Famer of our Myers
(01:47:07):
Scoreboard Show, it's all still to come on this week
non edition of the LMCU High School Football Game of
the Week.
Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
Only here on ninety six to one. The game.
Speaker 1 (01:47:24):
Hey high school football fans, don't remind, don't forget, I
should say I'm reminding you check out the high school
football page powered by Trinity Health. It's right there forty
nine to six to one the game dot Com. Just
flick on the logo one oh seven mus dot com,
Wood Radio dot Com.
Speaker 2 (01:47:38):
Even from our game of the.
Speaker 1 (01:47:39):
Week schedules obviously for the playoff drive to Ford Field
starts brought to you by Vandelid Home Improvement. Next week
game podcast of any of our shows or game broadcasts
want to listen to, including the Lakeshore guys with their
games of the week, standing scores and more with our
great link and Don Patton numbers were up this year.
He's done a phenomenal job. You haven't checked out West
biscuitokisports dot com. It's not just for football fans. They've
(01:48:00):
got all the sports up there. He does it for fall,
winner or spring. I don't know how he does it,
but West Biscuit okaysports dot Com. It's powered by win
Shoolers and it's all right there as part of the
Trinity Health High School Football Page. We'll change it over
to basketball page in the basketball season. So twenty eight
to sixty in the final, wes Catholic wins here tonight
over Zealand West to prove to eight to one going
(01:48:20):
to the playoffs next week. Okay, white outright Champs Zealand
West with the loss drops to six and three. But
obviously they are the defending champs and will be in
the playoffs in Division three. We'll find out where they
go selection Sunday in a couple of days. But you
know it's time to hand out some awards, and I'll
start with you, our uptown cheapskate Offensive player of the game.
Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
Well, when the guy throws three touchdowns and no picks
and runs the ball just enough to be effective, I
would say that that's pretty good criteria to win the
offensive Player of the game, and that's what we're gonna do.
So Grady Augustin, the senior quarterback here on Senior Night Alcinstadium.
(01:49:01):
As I mentioned, three touchdowns twelve of seventeen passing one
hundred and forty seven yards, slightly misleading because you look
at you, boy, there's not a lot of yardage, but
the accuracy was there. He did not put the ball
in danger. We saw that against South Christian where not
only the pick six, but a couple other times he
didn't put the ball in places that coach Grove and
his staff wanted him to, and they've kind of corrected
(01:49:22):
that so they've gone to more of the short route
passing and he made it through without any interception. So,
Grady Augustine, our offensive are uptime cheapskate offensive player of
the game tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:49:32):
And that can't be underemphasize what you just said because
come playoff time, when teams become very even, especially when
you get outside of your region, if you're lucky enough
to do that, turnovers can be the difference in a game.
Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
That was a difference tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:49:44):
Look at Wes Cathay with those two fumble recoveries the
difference Againsteland West. That's two opportunities you take away from
them to score. Well, look at it was a two
score game, yep.
Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
So that is big.
Speaker 1 (01:49:53):
And if your quarterback can keep it clean, not turn
the ball over, make good decisions, that's gonna be huge.
Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
And of course he's been doing it for a couple
years now.
Speaker 1 (01:50:00):
Here at Wes Cathock's congratulations are uptown chiefskate Offensive player
of the game. He's gonna get a twenty five dollars
gift guard for his work tonight to do some shopping
on us number six a senior, Brady Augustin. And don't
forget Uptown Cheapskate locations in Grandville in kent Wick to
serve you. They buy what you loved yesterday, sell what
you want today Leonardon Closet, earn cash for your clothes.
Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
It's that simple. Plus you can become an uptown.
Speaker 1 (01:50:21):
Insider get monthly deals at uptown cheapskate dot com. Well,
we had a couple of different guys. I'm gonna mention
OTOI mentioned Noah Gillespie. I called his name a lot tonight.
Number zero on the outside played a whale of a game.
He was a senior, but a guy that we didn't expect,
and he had a huge second half, especially down the stretch,
making a ton of tackles. Those number thirty, the sophomore
linebacker Deacon Parslow. He actually had seventeen tackles to lead
(01:50:45):
the way for West Cathick at a physical game. And
he's not as big as some of the other guys,
but boy, tough as nail. So congratulations. As sophomore, he's
gonna be our Montel Construction Defensive Player of the Game
for West Catholic tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:50:56):
And that's Deacon Parslow.
Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
He's an up and comer for wes Cathay and Land
and Grove. It's brought to you by my home team,
Montel Construction for any exterior projects indeed still for twenty
twenty four with this great weather, make sure you check
them out at Montel Construction dot com. And that gets
us to the Garretts Appliance Dependable Player of the Game. Buck,
you had a great nomination for this and I'm gonna
go with you. We always like to reward someone from
the other team tonight, especially when's a close game like this,
(01:51:19):
hard fought and number six Brandon Holman, what didn't he
do tonight for Zealand West.
Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
I mean, you know he's driving the bus out right now,
correct snap.
Speaker 1 (01:51:27):
But you know with the kind of single wing look
running the football, played on defense, he was tremendous tonight
and he had to be that dependable guy for Zealand
West as he's been really all season long. So Brandon Holman,
junior running back and linebacker do everything for Zealand West.
Tonight's Garretts Appliance Dependable Player of the Game Dependable, just
like the appliances you get from Garretts and congratulations to him.
Speaker 3 (01:51:49):
Yeah, a nice effort by Brandon and really not a
bad effort by Zealand West overall, like you mentioned, the
two turnovers, the interception and the fumble coming at just
critical times and a two score game. Well that's the difference.
And so often Brett we said, boy, what was the
difference or what did the team do? Well, yeah, you
gave them two extra possessions and you lost by two possessions.
It just simply comes down to that sometimes. So but
(01:52:12):
really a herculean effort by Brandon Holman, like you said,
taking direct snaps, running the football from the standard T formation,
and a lot of the other things that Coach Bullhouse
and his staff were able to show tonight Brandon Holman.
A long line of Holman's in Zealand, Well, they've got
another good one in Brandon tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:52:32):
He is our Garrett appliance, dependable player of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:52:35):
And last but not least, our J and H Family
Stores highlight of the game that was twenty two to
sixteen West Catholic in the fourth quarter. But West Catholic
wasn't feeling secure, right because you know, Zealand West comes
down and if they get a two point conversion, they
could easily take the lead and win this thing. So
they needed one more big play and they got it.
For tonight's J H's Family Stores highlight of the game
(01:52:57):
on one hundred is slot left looking that way it
costs and takes the snap, delivers, breaking a tackle up
the sideline, look out inside the twenty and breaks a tackle.
He's gonna take it in the house. I thought he
might have been out of the far sideline, but he wasn't.
And how about Thomas Bucksta for West Catholic, This first
catch of the night and he takes into the house
(01:53:18):
for six to make it now a twenty eight to
sixteen ball game.
Speaker 2 (01:53:22):
Kind of a quiet knight for the junior.
Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
We saw him be really one of their big threats
against South Christian when we covered him earlier in the year,
and he has been all season long. But Zilo West
knew that too, trying to take him away. But number
nineteen coming up with the big play there. Our J
and H Family Stores highlight of the game from Brady Augustin,
who had a monster night as Buck mentioned, good job
taking care of the football and three touchdown passes.
Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
But our J and H Family Stores.
Speaker 1 (01:53:46):
Highlight of the game, brought to you each and every
broadcast by Jan's Family Stores. You know those sixty plus

I want to get to our cars so we can
hear all the action. We want to thank Land and Grove,
the head coach at West Catholic, for all his information
with our broadcast tonight also across the way. What a
first season it has been for Jeff Bullhouse and the
staff at Zealand West after the John Silita era. They
finished the year at six in three but second place
(01:54:28):
in the Deep OK Gold again right there behind Uniti
Christian who end up losing tonight. You'll hear more about
that coming up the Mynor Scoreboard Show. And then Caleb
Houser the ad here at WES Cathock taking care of
us with the ethernet and everything always fun, especially on
Senior Night to be out here at Falcons Stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:54:42):
Yeah, and we're gonna do some deliberation after Sunday. We
got a lot of matchups that we're thinking about. But
there are gonna be plenty of good first round games
from all the way from Division one down to Division
eight and even eight man because the playoffs are here
and a lot of teams. It could be rematches, it
could be cross divisional games, it could be you have
(01:55:03):
to travel across the state sometimes depending on where you're at.
Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
But that's the thrill of it.
Speaker 3 (01:55:07):
That's the playoffs, and we're happy that it's going to
start and we're excited to find out where we're going
to be next week.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
