Speaker 1 (00:00):
Of playoff seasons, but they look fast.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
From Kevin Hafner makes it seven to nothing. This penalty
is going to be against North Muskegan, likely to be
declined by puemos Valia because North Muskegan lost six yards
on the play. Hey reminder that touchdown is another TD
for Kids Food Basket back for another season. Kids Food
Basket is our official nonprofits for the MCU high school
football Game of the Week and this regular season. Again,
(00:24):
every touchdown score during our games of the Week, LMCU
will generally generously donate fifty dollars Kids Food Basket to
nurish local kids to reach their full potential. Three fifty
one to play second down fifteen for North Miskeigan from
their own fifteen yard line. Keith Kerzman in motion, Colbert
fakes it to him, wants to throw deep and it
is incomplete. Looking for number two Beckett hoppah ty Thalen
(00:48):
was face guarding, but I don't think he made any contact.
He did make it difficult for Hoppa to come back
to the football. It falls in complete. There is no
penalty to be third down and long.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Boy, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
It looked like there was contact coming from the other direction.
There he was, Hoppa was hitting just before the ball arrived.
I thought he had to wait until the ball arrived.
But anyway, no break for the Norse. But right now, Jason,
the momentum is all in the favor of PW that time.
(01:18):
North Muskie and looking to make something happen down the
field to change things. But instead it's third and long
and the Norse are in trouble and the.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Last thing they want to do here is punt the
football back from deep in their own territory. But unless
they get fifteen yards here they might have to. And
the pass is incomplete, incomplete, looking for Beckett Hoppa to
throw a little behind him in and out of his
hands and they'll be fourth down North me Siqua is
gonna have to give.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
It back, Yeah, no question.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
This offense is sputtering and a very athletic PW defense.
They're all over the field. They're like I said, there's
no fat on anyone on their team. They are an
athletic bunch and right now this defense is dominating the game.
We got to talk to our Lake Shore reporter, Scott
(02:05):
de Camp. Right now it's Grand Blank twenty eight Mona
Shore seven.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Colbert back to kick, he kicks it away from his
own three.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
The punt high end over and it'll bounce at that
thirty three at take a North Miskeigan bounce to the forty.
The twenty five yard punt no return. But puamo Asveelia,
fresh off a touchdown run, is going to take over
in North Miskeigan territory at the forty and boy, the
Norse defense is going to have it on their shoulders
here to make a stop.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Yeah, this is huge right now, this last three minutes
and thirty seconds in the first half. You go into
halftime down seven nothing, no big deal, right you go
into halftime down fourteen to nothing at home, that's a
whole different story.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
So I think a real key to this game North Muskegan.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
They got to get into the halftime only down seven,
try to make some adjustments and come and then turn
this game around.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
But it starts right here. With this defensive series.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Puem mos Velia has had two drives go deep into
North Wiskicking territory. They've got it inside the ten in
the first quarter, but a couple of penalties ended up
forcing a turnover on downs and then their last possession
they drove sixty four yards and eight plays and scored
a touchdown. Here comes Tyth Thalen and running right, but
he's hitting the backfield and drop. Drew Gabriel makes the
tackle for a loss. An excellent play by the outside
(03:22):
linebacker and boy, winning first down is huge.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
And that was a big play from number eleven. What
another great play by Gabriel. He was getting blocked there,
but he pushed through the block and was able to
take down Thalen right at the knees. It's a good
thing he did because he was really the only Norse
defender over there.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Well, you know, those outside linebackers are so good and
as Chuck rips to defense. And I'll tell you what,
Keith and Keith Kerzman and Drew Gabriel been really good
here in this first half.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, they've they've been standing out, no question about it.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Second out in thirteen for PW. Thalen in the shotgun.
He's got Drysdale to his right, straight back to pass.
Daleen looks right, it passes deflected. Drew Gabriel got up
there to knock it down. It'll be third down and long.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
A couple of big plays for that kid, Drew Gabriel.
Geah a junior. Keith Kurtzman is a junior. So a
couple of really good juniors playing a great game so far.
And I mentioned how big this series is. North Muskegan's
got him in third and thirteen. Now they just need
to finish the deal here and.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
The clock has stopped at two forty three to play.
Both teams still have their full allotment three timeouts remaining.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
PAULM.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Mos Velia seven, North Muskegan nothing week one from Fred Jacksfield.
Falen in the gun and he's going to be back
to pass. He's got time. Now he's gonna roll to
the left. Now he's gonna run it, and he's still
on his feet, Still on his feet. He broke several
would be tacklers and now he's inside the twenty all
the way down to the nineteen yard line. That's twenty
(04:57):
four yards for ty Thalen. Several Norths had a shot
at him, unable to bring him down and pw is
into the red zone.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Wow that time again, we saw it earlier on a
run miss tackles. There was about three miss tackles there
in the open field, and uh, that just can't happen,
especially when you got him in a third and long
and great coverage downfield, but Ty Thalen a great individual
play he has got him back in business two.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Nine to play second quarter, Faling under center on first
and ten for the nineteen back to pass, looking at
the end zone, looking for Caleb.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Blythe who's got it?
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Touchdown Pamo Westvalia tied Saling to Caleb blythe nineteen yards
and the Pirates extend to a two score lead.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Wow, what a what a killer that was for Poamo again.
North Muskegan had him in third and long, but the
big play by Thalen with his legs and then there
with his arm he found his man, Caleb Blythe over
the middle.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
And it's gone pretty quiet over here.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Jason on the North Muskeigan side looking like fourteen to
nothing here in a moment, so.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Happener to attempt the extra point out of the hold
of Tye Thalen. Good pass from Nuremberg and the kick
is up and it I then we've got North North
Muskegan off sides again.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Boy, this is week one.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
This is what we see early on right, trying to
figure things out. It's not been smooth and it looks
like PW again. We'll decide to still kick it despite
the offsides penalty on North Muskeigan. Moving the ball to
the one yard line. Luke Nurnberg, the junior, will snap it.
Tie Thalen, the senior quarterback, will hold it, and the sophomore,
Kevin Hafner, will attempt the extra point.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Snap is good, hold is down, kick.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Is up, and it is good and that makes our score.
Poamo West Valia fourteen North Muskegan nothing. Will take a
quick time out come back with the kick off. This
is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the A one
of seven m us the Moose, Jason and Tom Kender
back at Fred Jack's field and on first down, North
Miskegan will run it up the middle with Hunter Wilder.
(07:09):
He's hit and dropped to the line of scrimmage. Wilder
had an excellent kick return for North Miskegan. They're bringing
it all the way out to the Norseman forty seven
yard line. Got these home fans fired up for a minute,
but then on first and ten they try to run
it up the middle and not much there for Wilder.
It'll be second down and long clock is running a
minute twenty six to play in the second quarter. Poem
(07:31):
Westvlia leads North Muskegan fourteen to nothing.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
The Norse in desperate need of some momentum.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Here before the break, they do have all three of
their timeouts remaining. Second down and long, Colbert in the
gun with Wilder to his right, using a lot of
the play clock here in Colbert drops straight back to pass.
With time completed, the Gabriel into Paemo wats Valia territory
down to about the forty seven.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Give him six. It'll set up third down and short.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
That the kickoff returned Jay by Hunter Wilder was just
what the doctor murdered right up near midfield. And now
Bryce Colbert, I mean he hasn't completed a lot of
passes tonight, but he finally completed one over the middle.
Let's see if that helps him out a little bit.
I wouldn't be surprised to see if they take a
chance down field right here.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
That last paem wat Pailia touchdown drive four plays forty yards.
He used a minute thirty one off the clock, and
it's capped with a Caleb Blythe nineteen yard touchdown reception
on the pass from Tythale. An extra point from Kevin
Hafner makes it fourteen to nothing, and on third down
and four. Bryce Colbert pass is caught the number twelve
(08:40):
Becket Hoppa inside the thirty five yard line for a
first down at the thirty three yard line, So give
him fourteen yards and Larry Wiham's going to use his
first time out with twenty seven seconds to play in
the half, and Northmuskeig has got a chance here to
try to get on the board before the break. That
Paemos pail a touchdown is another touchdown for our kids.
(09:00):
Kids Food Basket are official nonprofit the LMCU high school
football Game of the Week. Every touchdown score during our
games of the week, ALMCU generously donates fifty dollars Kids
Food Basket to nurse local kids to reach their full potential.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Wouldn't that be something j if North Muskegan's able to
get on the board here. Really haven't done anything offensively
this whole first half, but sometimes that's what it takes.
You know, you get punched in the face a few
times and that wakes you up a little bit. So
maybe this offense after that nice kickoff return by Wilder,
that was a beautiful throw there from Colbert out to
(09:36):
Happa and you know who are the thirty three yard line,
only twenty seven seconds to go.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
But with a guy like Colbert, he certainly can do this.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
So in first inten Senior Braylen Burrew will be sput out,
why to the left, Beckett hop of the junior short
side right, Barto's in the slot to the right, and
it's going to be a screen pass. Colbert sets it
up to Wilder, who catches it, but he stumbles down
after a very short gain of maybe a yard or two,
and that's going to force the Norseman to use their
second timeout with sixteen seconds to play in the second quarter.
(10:08):
Unfortunate for North Mskeig because it looked like I was
set up pretty well.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
You're right.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
It was a great play call by Larry with him
and he just stumbled there.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Wilder did coming out of that reception, and if he.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Was able to keep his feet, he might have been
able to get that corner and get the you know,
maybe get ten fifteen yards, but as it is just
a short gain, another time out, so.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
It'll be the second time out.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Stay tuned at the half for our halftime show, we'll
take a look at the rapid radio scoreboard update. We'll
recap the first half scoring and have our keys to
tonight's second half, plus we'll hear from the NHSA and
this week in high school sports, saw coming up at
the half right now, sixteen seconds to play, second quarter,
(10:51):
paualm was Vale leading North Muskegan. Get the Norseman have
it second down and eight on the PW thirty one
yard line, one time out left in sixteen seconds. Colbert
in the gun and he's gonna roll left, steps up
and throws looking for Barrell and the passes incomplete. Logan
Drysdale makes the pick at the twenty nine yard line
and Bryce Colbert only throw two of those all of
(11:14):
last year in thirteen games. Time Kender, but at that time,
a really nice play by the PW corner.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Yeah, underthrown play there, and like you said, a good
play by the defensive back for Plama Westphalia and North
Muskegan's you know, best drive of the half ends with
a turnover with just twelve seconds to go. I would
wager that the Pirates are just gonna fall on this one.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Be very happy. A late arriving team.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
You know, they didn't get here till, you know, after
six thirty, but that hasn't affected them. In this first half.
They played very well.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Twelve seconds ago. They will line up like they're gonna
run a play.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Salen is in the gun with four wides and he's
just gonna run it right up the middle over the
right guard, and he's gonna get a yard maybe two.
But that should take us to the break, and it will.
Jeremy Miller says, let's go to the half. After twenty
four minutes of play, our score Paloma, Westvilia fourteen, North
Miskegan nothing. The Norse will get the football to start
(12:15):
the second half as they won the toss and defer
to the second half. Stay tuned because the halftime show
is coming up after a short time out, which we'll
start with. This week in high school sports, this is
the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on one
oh seven mus the Moose.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Jason and Tom Kendra.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Back at Fred Jacksfield, Palamo, Westvillia fourteen, North Miskegan Nothing
in the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on
one of seven, m Us the Moose. And this is
the preferred Auto Dealers halftime show, Preferred Auto deals. They
are driving our community. Well, let's take a look at
our first half scoring summary, and there wasn't much. In fact,
nobody scored in the first twelve minutes. But eight minutes
(12:53):
into the second quarter, pemost Villia on the board for
the first time. It was a tie Thalen four yard
touchdown run the senior quarterback and the extra point makes
it seven to nothing at PW and the Pirates would
add on to that just a couple of minutes later.
Salen finding Caleb Blythe on a nineteen yard at touchdown pass.
Were one to fifty nine to play in the second quarter.
Both of the extra points from sophomore Kevin Haffner were
(13:15):
good after offside penalties by North Muskegan. That's our score,
fourteen to nothing Poamo West Valia leads North Muskegan. This
is the Shaefer Schwartz game scoring summary. Shaeffer Schwartz, you
don't pay unless they win. Let's go to Tom Kender
for look at some other scorers around the area.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
All some very interesting scores on the Rapid Radio scoreboard.
Jason none none more surprising maybe than over at Mona
Shores where our lake shore reporter Scott to Camp, by
the way, what a coup scoring Scott to Camp as
our lake shore reporter.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
That guy.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
He knows high school football, probably second to you only maybe,
But Grand Blank at halftime twenty eight to seven over
Mona Shors.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
It's a stunner so far.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Some other scores here, grand Ledge twenty, West Ottawa thirteen.
A great one going on at Grandville, back and forth game.
Grandville leads twenty three to twenty over the Big Reds.
But a very good game over there. It's New lowthro
At fourteen, Muskegan Catholic zero, Forest Hill's Eastern twenty and
Montague seven and Phil Cope's first game as Montague's head coach.
(14:26):
Unity Christian all over Whitehall forty to fourteen, Forest Hills
Central ten, Reese Puffer nothing. It's Celine in a good
game right now leading Rockford twenty one to fourteen. Lowell thirteen,
East Grand Rapids seven, Jason's alma mater, Belding thirty four
to seven over Ionia and in a great game.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
We expected this to be a good game.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Forest Hills Northern fourteen, ken Owa Hill's fourteen and Don
Fellows he's a North Muskegan resident and his son, Grayson
Fellows first cousins with the Colin Bartos Beale City fifteen,
Ravana nothing. In our Grand Rapids area game of the week,
it's Hudsonville seven Byron Center six, Grand Haven. I mentioned
(15:09):
them earlier that they're a team to watch. How about
this score thirty one to nothing over Stevensville Lake Shore.
So the Bucks off and running good game as we expected.
Oak Ridge and Orchard View. Oakridge leads at twenty two
to fourteen spring Lake fourteen, Fruitport nothing. And here's a
good back and forth game. It's been very entertaining at Coopersville.
(15:31):
Last report Luddington twenty, Coopersville thirteen, so watch out for
Luddington in that West Michigan Conference Lakes Division. And then
a final score Hopkins twenty Fremont eight.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Well, there's a lot of football we played still twenty
four minutes in our game in most of those games
as well, but certainly some surprising scores there. We'll see
if the Sailors and Mona Shores can't mount to come
back there on their home field.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Down big to Graham blank. All right.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
The Rapid Radios scoreboard updates. It's provided by Rapid Radios,

out more at rapid radios dot com. Let's take look
at the first half stats with Tom Well.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
The stats are not very impressive.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
If you're a North Muskegan fan, youel we came in
talking about this great backfield for North Mischigan. Colin Bartos
and Hunter Wilder haven't done much so far. Hunter Wilder
two carries for two yards, Colin Bartos three carries for
seven yards. The leading rusher for North Muskegan has been
Keith Kurzman two carries for twelve yards, but overall for
(16:43):
North Muskegan eight rushes for sixteen yards. That's not gonna
get it done. Through the air hasn't been a whole
lot better. Bryce Colbert four of twelve for thirty eight
yards and one interception so so far. Witham known as
a kind of an offensive guru, North Muskegan just fifty
(17:04):
four yards of total offense in the first half.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Flip it over to p W one hundred and sixty two.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Yards of total offense, so more than almost three times
as much offense for the Pirates so far. They've been
led by their senior quarterback Tythalen. He's been great on
the ground and through the air. He's the leading rusher
in the game by far, eleven carries for eighty seven yards.
(17:32):
Alex Nurenberg the junior, he has five carries for forty
two yards, but overall for p W twenty one rushes
one hundred and thirty two yards and the touchdown four
yard touchdown run by Tythalen. And then through the air,
Thalen three for seven for thirty yards, including the nineteen
(17:53):
yard touchdown pass.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
To Caleb Blythe.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
So again the stats very one side at Jay PW
one hundred and sixty two yards of offense North Muskegan
just fifty four.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I'll tell you what, when you talk about coordinators in
State of Michigan, Nathan Thalen, the defense coordinator a poemos Valia,
has got to be pretty high on any list that
you can come up with. They've won four state titles,
he and Jeremy Miller together at Poems Vileia and every
last one of them for the bat in the last decade,
they've had really really good defenses, and this is another
really good defense. And I don't think anyone should be
surprised because they're really good athletes. They coach them up
(18:27):
really well, and year after year they are tough to
move the football again.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Very great point there, Jay, And even when North Muskegan
tried to throw a wrinkle at him, putting in Colin
Bartos in the wildcat, they weren't fooled at all. They
were ready for it. They've been ready for everything. But
in a game like this, one big play could really
change the momentum of this game. It could bring this
home crowd back on its feet. So I mentioned in
(18:51):
the pregame one of the keys for p W was eliminating.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
The big play. They've certainly done that.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
North Muskegan needs a couple of either a long pass
or a long run by Colin Bartos to get themselves
get their fans back in this game.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Fourteen paulmos Villa leads North Moskeigan at the half.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Will step aside.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
We'll come back with a second half kickohof this is
the LMCU Lake Shore game of the week. I want
to seven mus the Moose. Jason and Tom Kendrick back
at Fred Jack's field. Paulmos Villa fourteen, North Moskeigan Nothing.
We're about ready to go with the second half. Tom Quick,
where are some keys to the second half each team.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Well, obviously for North Muskegan, they've got to get their
athletes out in space. They just haven't been able to
get Colin Bartos or a Hunter Wilder out in the open.
They've got to find a way. I guess that starts
up front. But they got to get the guys into
space in order to make a big play and flip
it over to for Poamo, kind of a story of
(19:50):
doing what they're doing, I think they they need right
now with a fourteen point lead. The key to them
will be not turning it over and just possessing the
ball because pretty soon North Mischian is gonna run out
of time to make a comeback. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
I think this first posession for North m Skeigon is huge.
I'm not saying they have to score, but they can't
go three and out and give the ball back to PW.
Our second half Keys to Victory brought to you by

(20:24):
Haffner kicking it deep for PW's North Moschigan would get
the ball to start the second half. Hunter Wilder will
take it at his own nine yard line with the
head to steam up the middle. He will be hitting
dropped at about the twenty four yard line, and that
is where the Norse and Bryce Colbert will go to
work down two scores here early in this third Quarter's.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Dropped at the twenty four yard line by number twenty four.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Luke Paxton. He's had a good game for PW. A
great hit.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Any hope of a you know, a big kickoff return
to open the second half, No such luck.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Great coverage by the Pirates.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah, Luke Paxton.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
The scene near Hayden Smith, the junior both returning starters
and that inside linebacker position for Nathanalen's defense. And we'll
see what Larry Wihams got up his sleeve.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Here to start the third court.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
It's of blitz from PW northm Ski runs away from
it Wilder at the thirty. He's gonna be stacked up
at about the thirty one, but six yards seven yards
on first down for Hunter Wilder.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
That time we saw more of a burst out of Hunter.
I mean, he's a he's got it takes him a
little bit to get going. If he if he had
a little bit quicker first step, he'd be able to
get through that get through that gap there. That time,
he seemed to push himself a little bit and made
a nice gain.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
So they spot it just across the thirty. They get
second down and four for North Muskegan. Colbert in the pistol,
Wilder behind him. They'll pitch it to Wilder running right again.
Nice seal over the right side.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
He's got a first down.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Lays the hit on ty Thalen and both players are
slow getting up. Ty Thalen, the safety who's also pemos
veyas quarterback, came up to meet the hit on Wilder
and why Nowther appeared to win the battle, but both
players still down on the field here in the near sideline.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Wow, that was a very very scary collision.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Tight failing up on his feet and running back over
to his sideline. Hunter Wilder's still on the ground.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Kathy Ramkama there, the longtime trainer for North Muskegan, right
on top of the Hunter Wilder.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Let's just hope he's okay.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
It appeared to be shoulder to shoulder. Certainly big contact.
They are spotting the ball at to thirty seven yard line.
It's again of six. It's a North Muschigan first down
a hundred. Wilder now up to his feet, helped up
to a round of applause, holding his left shoulder a
little bit, trying to move that left arm around. Gonna
go take a seat on the bench. I love it
(22:49):
here at Fred Jack's field.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
The fans are right on top of the action here,
and it's also a great place to call a game
here in the press box. Feels like you're right on
top of it, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
It certainly does. Yeah, this is a great, great setting
for high school football. The sunset right now in the distance.
It doesn't get ahole lot better than this time. And
we're in for the first of fourteenth straight weeks high
school football.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
God, it's gonna be a blast.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
So Bartos moves from slot receiver. He'll move into the
backfield now to take Wilder spot. Keith Kurzman and Drew
Gabriel both in at h back and the pass is
going to be incomplete. Braden Burrell was the intended receiver,
but he tried to stop come back to the football
and his feet went right out from under him.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
The ball falls harmlessly and complete overy. Second and ten.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Yeah, just out of sync a little bit, this offense,
you know what I mean. And I think a lot
of that has to do with the athleticism of PW.
You know, you try in preseason practices to emulate what
you're gonna see in the game, but I don't think
there's any way to really emulate this PW defense, And
so far it's a it's thrown off North Muskegan.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
So second out of ten, Gabriel, excuse me, Colbert in
the shotgun. He's got Carlton Williams coming in motion from
left to right, and they're gonna hand it to Collin
Bartos running right. Bartos over the forty hitt knock out
of bounds around the forty two yard line, tackle made
by Cody Pohle, the junior linebacker. The spot it about
five yard shive of a first down. It'll be third
(24:19):
down for North Muskegan.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Well, you see what the North Muskegan wanted to do.
Come out a halftime running around that right side. They
must have found something there. That's the third time they've
got the edge there on the right side. We got
Brennan Slayton over there at the right tackle spot and
uh Villa Pando at the right guard and right now
they're doing a good job, you know, sealing that edge
(24:41):
for the running backs.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
So make a third down and five, Williams in motion
and Colbert out of the gun, and they're gonna hand
it to Bartos. But we this play is going to
be stopped before it gets started. It is a illegal
procedure call against North Muskeigan, and third and five is
going to become third and ten.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
That is a crushing penalty there, because third and five,
even if you only get three or four yards, it's
gonna make it fourth and one and down fourteen to nothing.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
You're looking to go for it.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
But now with third and nine, you know you got
to pick up a nice play here on third down
to even have a chance to.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Go for it.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Blake Thalen is in at nose tackle for Poem Westvilia
here and they're odd man front. Third down and nine
for North Muskige, and they need the forty seven. They'll
scrimmage from their own thirty eight. Colbert back to pass
under pressure, tried to get it out to call in
Bartow's but it will fall incomplete. There was time immediately
there for Colbert, but the pocket broke down and he
(25:37):
tried to step up and eventually just had to get
rid of it.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
And it'll be fourth down and North mos Skiing has
got a pun.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Yeah, just to he had some time.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Initially nobody opened downfield, and when we talked about it halftime,
you know some of the losses we talked about the
loss earlier of you know, Chuck Myers, of Drew Bartos,
but guys like t Jay Byerd and Land and Grimm,
those threats down the field. North Muskegan's got to have
someone step up in those roles.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Colbert's gonna kick it again. It's a pretty good kick
over the left side. It'll bounce. It's a thirty five
taken North Muskegan, bounce inside the thirty all the way
down to the twenty six yard line. That'll be a
thirty six yard punt with no return and paum most
Velia will get it back with nine to fifty six
left to play in this third quarter, with a two
(26:28):
touchdown lead, and this suddenly becomes a very important possession
for the North Moskeigan defense. We'll have to do it
without Hunter Wilder, who's got his pads off here on
the near sideline, still sitting on the bench shaking that
left shoulder. As we'll see number fifty four Jace Thompson,
the junior checking inside linebacker to replace Wilder.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
Yeah, that's a huge two way loss.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Hopefully he's a It's just something that he'll be able
to come back from. If not tonight, certain certainly in
the future.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
In ten PW Thalen in the gun with two running
backs and they're gonna hand it off running left. In Nuremberg,
he's out to about the thirty modest game there on
first down, looked like Villa Pondo was in there to
make the play for excuse me, Jackson die with the
tackle for North Muskeigan.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
You know, I would expect as long as North Muskegan
has a zero on the scoreboard, I don't expect PW
to throw the ball much here in the second half, Jay,
they especially, it feels like they're starting to wear down
the Norse a little. I see them really running the ball,
chewing up as much clock as they can here in
the second half.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
So to be second down and seven after the three
yard game on first down, Faling in the shotgun and
he's gonna keep well, he hit Nuremberg and he's gonna
lose it in the back of the fall back onto
it close to the original line of scrimmage. It's gonna
be third down in about ten. It's interesting time. We've
(27:56):
seen a lot of different running backs back there. For
onemos Bea.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
That time was Luke.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Ihrenberg, the junior number nine who's also the backup quarterback,
so that brings in all kinds of new things with
him back there, right, you got to be aware of
a trick play, and that time, I believe it was
supposed to be a playfake, but when he did the fake,
it hit Nurnberg and just kind of went on the ground.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Yeah, you wouldn't expect that with those two guys. Those
are they've been playing together for a long time. But
as a result of it, it brings up a third
and long and a great chance for North Muskegan to
get the ball back.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Nurrenberg remains in the game. Luke Nurrenberg as the running
back next to Thalen and the gun faling straight back to.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Pass all day to throw finally gets Riven.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
It's complete excellent play by Jalen Elameif making a great
break on the football, nearly had a pick and it'll
be four down.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
You're right, Ela Meif did a great job of timing
it perfectly so.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
There wasn't an interference call.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
He stepped around and knocked the ball away and a
huge stop for the North Muskegan defense. You know, if
you think about it, defensively, North Muskegan's played pretty well
in this game.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
I agree they just the offense just hasn't done.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
It's I want to correct myself. Jordan e lame with
the play for North Muskegan. And here's the punt from.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
Anthony.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
It will bounce and take a pw roll inside down
to right about the twenty yard line, so forty two
yards no return and North Muskegan will be backed up
to their own twenty button. They've got it back Tom
with eight fifteen to go in the third quarter, still
searching for answers on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Yeah, talk about flipping the field, that's what they call it.
With a great punt like that, North Muskegan thought they
were gonna get good field position, maybe up by the
fifty yard line. Instead, a great punt flips the field,
starting off at the twenty. But one big play, Jason,
I'm telling you one big play I and the guy
you gotta think would deliver it would be Cullin Bartos.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
And Hunter Wilder's back in there. What the pads are
back on?
Speaker 2 (29:48):
And Wilder is in the backfield behind Colbert who's in
the pistol, and they're gonna pitch it the wile.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
They're running right.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Wild there's got some room over the twenty five, lowers
his head and he's close to the twenty five.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Excuse me.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
As a five yard roud, but you're right, Tom. They
have clearly come out of the half wanting to run right.
They running toss sweep and it's been effective here.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Yeah, And they wanted to run right, and they wanted
to run it with Hunter Wilder. They are really trying
to get him going here in this third quarter.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
So on second and five, Colbert straight back to pass
with time Now the pocket breaks down, He's gonna roll left,
looking to throw across his body complete the Colin Bartos
hit the forty and that's been the best pass play
of the game for North Muschigan.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
He goes for fifteen yards and a Norseman first down.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Wow that time, Bryce Colbert great poise in the pocket.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
There was pressure there.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
He was able to break out of the pocket and
he threw it almost looked like a knuckleball. Wasn't the
most impressive spiral I've ever seen in my life, but
he was able to connect with the Bartos and a
first down.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Drew Gabriel and Braylon burrell sput out wide to the right,
and now Colbert's gonna roll to the left, trying to
get away from Trent Piggott, and he's gonna throw it
the last minutes intercepted. Intercepted by number twenty Cody Pool,
the second takeaway of the game for the Pirates, and
they'll start North Mischigan territory. Just as it looked like
(31:13):
the Norse had a little momentum.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Yeah, just trying to trying to do a little too
much there, you know. Two interceptions all last year too,
so far today and the turnovers we talked about turnovers
maybe being a key in this game. So far two
interceptions for p w and no turnovers for the benefit
(31:36):
of the Norse.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
The Norsemen have had the ball nine times in this game,
and their longest time of possession on any of them
was two minutes thirty four seconds. They're just asking their
defense to be on the field too much. First and
ten PW. They'll have it at the North Muskigan forty
seven yard line. Failing in the gun and he's gonna
hand it off to Drysdale running left. He's got one
maybe two down to the forty five yard line. Another
(32:00):
job by that North Muskegan defense. Fifty five Clint Villa
Pondo makes the play.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Yeah, you made a good point there, Jay about the
defense for North Muskegan being called on over and over
again to step up. Can they do it one more
time here? Because a North Muskegan has to score next
in this game. They can't let a PW score again
because that could be the nail in the coffin. So
(32:27):
can the defense do it again?
Speaker 2 (32:28):
We'll see second down and eight for the Pirates sailing
in the gun, two running backs with him, and he's
gonna hand it off to Nuremberg running right. Nurrberg he's
got a first down in more reason, inside the thirty.
Nuremberg to the twenty and finally chased out of bounds
inside the ten yard line.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
Alex Nuremberg twenty two to the junior.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Running back with the thirty eight yard game and it'll
be first and goal for the Pirates.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
We talked about the big play that North Muskegan was
trying to get and ends up being Alex Nurenberg.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Just a simple off tackle play through the right.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Side, and there hasn't been a lot of room all night,
but that time he found it and he showed some speed,
didn't he In the open field there? Colin Bartos was
finally able to hunt him down inside the ten yard line.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Talk about a burst. Nurrenberg showed it there they say
went out at the ten. So it's a thirty five
yard game. First in goal. PW Lego I formation Logan
Drysdale the deep back and he's going to carry it
right up the middle.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
He might he's down at the one. Drysdale for nine.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Down to the one yard line and PW just leaning
on North Muskegan right now.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
While they're doing a good job mixing things up. And
again the turnovers things, you know, something we didn't see
at all last year with North Muskeig and I have
really hurt him in this game. But again it's a
product of that great defense by PW ten North Muskeigan
find a way to keep him out of the end
zone here.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
Almost a must at this point.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Five twenty seven to play third quarter, second in goal,
Pirates from the one PW leading North Muschigan fourteen to
nothing at opening night here week one, it was the
twenty twenty five high school football season I formation, Alex
Nurnberg the deepak No, that's Luke Paxton, but they give
it to the full back right up the middle, Blake Thalen,
but he didn't get there. A nice job at at
North Muschigan defensive front. It'll be third down and goal.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
All right.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Let's see if the Norse can come up with a
goal line stand here. That was a Brennan Slayton in
there on the stop along with the number fifty five
Villa Pondo. We talked about the defensive line for a
North Muskegan in the pregame being the key to this game.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
They've done a good job so far.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Can they can they keep them from making one.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
Yard I formation for the Pirates third goal in the
one yard line.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Four to thirty six to play third quarter, quarterback Seak
Tythler up the middle. He's into the end zone, second
touchdown run of the night for senior quarterback Tye Thalen
and plumas Velia has extended this game to a three
score lead for thirty one to play here in the
third quarter.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Yeah again, the North Muskegan had a little bit of momentum,
you thought down fourteen to nothing at a couple of
first downs and then a crucial turnover gives the ball
and all of the momentum back to p W And yeah,
it's looking like it's gonna be a three score game
here at lining up the sophomore lineup for the extra point.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Kevin after Who's two for two on point after so
far tonight? Good pass from center, hold is down, kick
is up and it is good. And hey no penalty
flags on this point after touchdown and our score now
reads Poemo Westphilia twenty one, North Muskegan. Nothing reminder that
third Tonight's third quarter is being brought to you by
(35:42):
Shide Plumbing, Heating and Cooling. Where there's trouble in the air,
count on us to be there for you. Shide Plumbing,
Heating and Cooling. That poems Villia touchdown drive five plays.
It goes forty seven yards after the interception and Tythaling
caps it off with a one yard touchdown run. It's
(36:05):
his second rushing touchdown of the night. He also has
a passing touchdown. But really the story of this game
has been that Pirate defense which has just been really stingy.
Two big takeaways and really just haven't given North Mskeige
of much room to breathe here.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
No, and we mentioned at halftime North Mischigan had just
sixteen rushing yards and fifty four yards. They haven't added
a whole lot more to it here in the third quarter.
So you know, that offense, which was so explosive a
year ago, just kind of stuck in the mud. But
I think a lot of that has to do with
just how good defensively PW is.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
They're the real deal.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
That Tithaling touchdown run is another fifty dollars to Kids
Food Basket. LMCU generously donates fifty dollars to Kids Food
Basket to nourish local kids and reach their full potential.
For each touchdown in our Games of the Week this season,
I won to seven mus de Moose and ninety six
point one the that's one hundred and fifty dollars just tonight.
From the three scores in this game. As the Pirates
(37:04):
get set to kick a deep Halfner's kick is high
and over, in and deep, Colin Bartos back to his
own two yard line to take it out of steam.
Across the fifteen to twenty. Bartow's still on his feet
out close to the thirty yard line. Down at about
the twenty nine, Will Hoon the junior makes the tackle
for PW and here comes Bryce Colbert, that North Muskegan
(37:24):
offense once again.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
You know, one of the things I'm wondering here is
in this third quarter, they've obviously wanted to establish Hunter Wilder,
but but what about Colin Bartos. You know, they got
to get him the ball as well. He seems like
the home run threat and the one that could bring
North Muskegan back into this game. Let's see if they
try to get him the ball a little bit.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
I like what they did in the last drive.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Wilder run past to Bartos, but then the interception stalled things.
First down, Colbert slings it out to Bartos right on
cue and a big hit that time from number twenty.
Cody Poll the junior. Bartos is across the thirty five
to about the thirty six yard line, got seven on
first down.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Yeah, big hit, that's it's typical of this defense. Poamo.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
They know how to hit, they know how to play football,
and uh but yeah, Barto's nice game there on first down.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
North Muskegon goes on second and short and they're gonna
give it to Keith Kurzman, who's hit right away. Got
back to the line of scrimmage. Alden Pung the junior
in there to make the play. Luke Paxton not far behind.
It'll be third down and three for North Muskegan.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
Kurzman has definitely been a bright spot for the Norseman
tonight on on defense and and a little bit running
the ball as well. So he's Him and Drew Gabriel
are a couple of new names. We didn't call it
much last year, but they're gonna be a keys to
the team this year.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
But we started the night talking about five and six
and here on third and three, both Hunter Wilder and
Columbartos on the sidelines. The pitch will go to Kurzman
running left. Kurzman cuts it back and he's got a
first down across the forty to the forty one five
yards for Keith Kurzman.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
And the Norsemen moved the chains.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
Quick update here on the rapid radio scoreboard. Muskegan has
come back.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
They now lead Grandville twenty seven to twenty three. A
great game over there at Grandville, but a couple teams
making games of it here Montagu they score it again.
Now they trail Forest Fields Eastern just twenty to fourteen,
and then Fremont as well just scored. They're down twenty
to fourteen against Hopkins.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Good good, good.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
Battles unfolding all over the area. Last we heard it
was seven six Hudsonvilliver Byron Center. That game's over on
ninety six point one the game. We expected that to
be a doozy. It has been FHN and Knawa Hills
is living up to it. Fourteen fourteen. At the half,
last we heard first down North Moschigan's gonna lose a
yard here, back to about the forty one seat of
second down and eleven, as Bartos and Hunter Wilder both
(39:58):
returned to the lineup the Norsemen and Bryce Colbert is
gonna go empty here with five wide receivers, clock running
two twenty five to play. Third quarter, Plumb West Villa
leads North Mischigan twenty one nothing. Colbert straight back to
pass with time, slings it out to Gabriel and the
pass is going to fall to the ground and complete.
Gabriel was pretty open there in the flats, but couldn't
pull it in. It'll be third down and ten.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Yeah. Again, we've set it over and over tonight.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
But the timing and everything is just a click off
for North Muskegan, And so.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Then you ask yourself why is that?
Speaker 3 (40:31):
And you have to think it's just this Poamo defense
is that good and it's throwing everything a little off sync.
Plus it's the first game of the year. But one
thing you don't want to do is you lose a game.
You lose a game, but you don't want to get
shut out. So, uh, North Miskegan, it'd be nice if
they found a way to get on the scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
I haven't had consecutive first down since their second driving game.
Colbert back to pass, he's got complete to Beckett Hoppa
into PWA territory all the way down to the forty
yard line, give nineteen yards. The biggest play of the
game for the Norsemen, and they moved the ball into
PW territory of the first and ten.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
You know, we've been waiting for someone who's gonna step up.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
Who's gonna be the new TJ? Tired?
Speaker 3 (41:11):
Who's gonna be the new land and Grim? Maybe it's
Beckett Hoppa. He's got good size.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
A junior.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
He went up and grabbed that ball across the middle,
and maybe he could be the man.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Oh he's wearing TJ. Byerd's number two, and he looked
good on that one. First intent Colbert.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
Back to pass.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Now steps up in the pocket, gets away from pressure.
He's gonna run it and he's gonna be flushed out
of bounds. After a short game about three to the
thirty seven. Caleb Blythe will make the tackle for poemos value,
But and I shall have a Colbert there because the
pocket broke down and he was able to get a
small game out of it.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
Yeah, that time good decision making. We saw on the
last drive when he was flushed out of the pocket
and he ended up throwing it. An ill fated decision
led to an interception that sometimes you just got to
take what you can get. What about four yard gain
there and no harm uh, no foul.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Clock has stopped minute thirty seven left in the third quarter.
North Muskegan looking for its first points of the evening,
trailing twenty one or nothing. They're second and seven play action.
Colbert wanted to set up the screen for Wilder and
probably fortunate that that thing fell incomplete because Trent Pikett
rad it all the way and he was right there
with Hunter Wilder and the pass goes incomplete. That's the
one you see in the NFL where the quarterback would
(42:24):
just throw it at the receiver's feet, because the worst
thing that could have happened there was he catched that pass.
That's right, So that pass was storing right a little
higher where he could have caught it. But very very
much beneficial to North Mschigon that it was incomplete.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
Yeah, and incompletion is just fine there. And I you know,
it feels like it's about forty degrees colder.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Than it was at the beginning of the game.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
I mean, Joe Grimm sitting next to me, he's got
his hood on and everything he's that might be a
little over the top, but it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
It doesn't feel like August, so does it. Third down
and six, North Muskegan ball on the Poemo Hostvelia thirty
six yard line, definite four down territory, but they won't
need it. Passes complete to Colin Bartos. They are into
the red zone inside the twenty down to about the
seventeen yard line. Nineteen yard pitch and catch from Bryce
(43:10):
Colbert to Colin Bartos.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
All kind of interesting looking past there, way up by
the PW sidelines, kind of looped it high up in
the air, but Bartow's great, great job coming down with that,
and this is by far the deepest penetration of the
game from the North Muskegan ad and absolutely need to
get in the end zone here if they want to
have any chance of coming back.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
Clock has stopped as Bartos goes out of bounds a
minute twenty seven to play third quarter. Norseman now seventeen
yards away from their first touchdown of the twenty twenty
five season. Bunch formation to Colbert's left. He's got Wilder
in the backfield. Wilder gets the call, running hard and
running downhill inside that ten to the.
Speaker 4 (43:52):
Nine eight yards for Hunter Wilder on first out.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
Now that's the Hunter Wilder that all the North Muskegan
fans want to see, lowering the shoulder that he just
injured not long ago and taking out a defensive back
in the process.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
And now North Muskegan knocking on the door.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
Second and two after this eight yard game by Wilder,
run first down and they're gonna pitch it to Wilder
running left and he looks like he's got the first
down close to the five yard line. Should have set
up a first down in goal for the Norseman.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
All right, here's the North Muskegan offense we thought we
were gonna see from the beginning, doing a nice job
mixing it up, the running the pass on this drive
and let's see what they call here on first and
goal from the five.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Clock is running thirty five seconds to play. Third quarter.
Wilder the loan set back next to Colbert in the
gun barrel, split wide to the left, Bartos and hop
a split to the right.
Speaker 4 (44:48):
They're gonna run Wilder up the middle and nothing to
do there.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
Hayden Smith inside linebacker, the junior, the returning starter, makes
the hit right.
Speaker 4 (44:57):
At the wine scrimage. Will be second goal.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Wow, that defense was ready for him that time, weren't they.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
Jason big hit in the middle, and there's a PW
player down.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
One thing we often see early in the season, Tom
is cramping it's not that warm, so I don't know
how much cramping we're actually seeing, but we do have
a paemost Valua player down on the field with nine
seconds to play here in the third quarter. Likely it
is it is Trent Piggott, number one, sixty five and
forty pounds senior.
Speaker 4 (45:28):
But likely the clock is just.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Gonna run after Picket makes his way to the sideline,
and this third quarter is gonna end, so we'll take
a break after three quarters. Our score paalmoas Vila twenty
one at North Miskeigan Nothing.
Speaker 4 (45:41):
This is the LMCU Lake Shore game of.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
The third down in goal for North Miskeigan at the
paumoas Valua four yard line. Colbert in the gun, rolling right,
still rolling right and looking finally throws it in the
ends of cut god by Colin Bartos in a crowd
pulch down North Muskeigan.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
Wow, how did he come up with that? Throwing the
ball into the crowd that time, Bryce Colbert, But Colin
Bartos pulled it out of the air for a touchdown
on the final play of the third quarter, and all
of a sudden, North Muskegan has life.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
On the board for the first time tonight of the
North Muschigan Norseman in the first time in twenty twenty five,
and Gunner Schmidt is in to attempt the extra point
out of the hold of Colin Bartos. Try to draw
the Norseman within fourteen good snap, good hold, kick us
up and it is no good. It hit the crossbar
and fell short after three quarters are score Paumoasvillia twenty one,
(46:52):
North Muskegan six. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game
of the week. On one oh seven mus the Moose.
Speaker 4 (46:57):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
Gunner Schmidt lined up to kick it off for Orth
Muskeigan after the Norse get their first touchdown of the season.
High end over and kick it'll chase Caleb Blythe back
to his own ten yard line. I'm not sure the
pirates were convinced North Muskegan was gonna kick it deep,
but Bly's got ahead of steam across the forty and
all the way out to the forty four yard line.
Nice return from Caleb Blyth and puemoas Valley will go
to work with a twenty one six lead here early
(47:19):
in the fourth quarter. That North Moskeigan touchdown drive Tom,
how about this? Fourteen plays seventy one yards four to
thirty one off the clock, capped by the Bryce Colbert
to Colin Bartow's four yard touchdown pass. I'll tell you
what fourteen plays North Muskegon had had to drive over
six plays all night.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
Yeah, that's and what was their longest drive before that?
Couldn't have been much, Probably about twenty five thirty yards,
but a seventy one yard drive.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
Still twelve minutes to play.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
Own forty five first down to give to Nuremberg across
the fifty in North Mskeigan territory. The forty eight Alex
Nurenberg with the seven yard gain on first down that
North Mischigan touchdowns another fifty dollars to Kids Food Basket
LMCU once again this year generously donating fifty dollars to
Kids Food Basket for every touchdown score in our games
(48:11):
of the week one of seven. Mus And nine to
six won the game to help nourish local kids and
help them reach their full potential second down and three
for PW. After the seven yard game, we are early
in the fourth quarter. Pirates lead North Mschigan twenty one
to six. Week one of the high school football season.
Ty fal And under center of the I formation is
gonna pitch it to Nuremberg, who's gonna run over left
(48:32):
guard first down and more inside the forty spins his
way to the thirty eight yard line. That's another nine
yards and a paulmost Villa first down.
Speaker 3 (48:42):
Yeah, right now, there's pw just wearing down north Muschigan,
the north North they're gonna do.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
They're gonna run the ball between the.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
Tackles, and they haven't been able to stop them those
first two runs.
Speaker 2 (48:52):
This is just old school, poorlmost Valia football. They used
to be ninety percent ie. They've kind of gone away
from that. They run a little spread, a little little
three wide sometimes, but they can still get down into
that tight formation and run it right down your throat.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
That's what they want to do here. With a two
score lead in the fourth quarter, they'll.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Continue along with Blake Thaling, number six, the senior at
full back. Although Thaling will be in the gun here
Ty Thaling with Luke Falen to his right and Alex
Nurnberg to his left, Brandon Anthony split.
Speaker 4 (49:19):
Out wide to the right.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
It's gonna be Tye Thalen running inside the thirty five,
pushing his way to the thirty one yard line six
yards on first down.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
You know what North Muskegan really needs right here, Jason.
Speaker 4 (49:31):
A turnover.
Speaker 1 (49:32):
A turnover.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
But again, when you talk about p W, that's something
they just don't do. But they are human, right.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
They'll turn it over at some point this year, I'm sure, Okay,
how about right now, But they don't do it often.
Speaker 4 (49:46):
You're right, and they're just fundamentally sound.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
They're really good on defense, they run the football on offense.
They do the things that takes to win football games.
Twenty one to six p W, nine minutes, fifty two
seconds to play. Here in the fourth quarter, Alex Nurnberg
now will be splitting the slot to the right, and
it's poll number twenty Cody Pohl, who's next to tyth
Thaling and the gun Nurnberg. In the in motion, they're
(50:10):
gonna run Jay fake the jet quarterback power Tye failing
the huge hole, tailing into the twenty now to the
outside of the ten, ty Faling at the five, and
he's shoved out of bounds at the one yard line.
Thirty one yards for ty Thaling, first and goal for
paum Waaspailia.
Speaker 1 (50:25):
Wow, what a response by p W.
Speaker 3 (50:27):
I mean North mcechian had just scored twenty one to
six to get some momentum back. And what an answer
right here, right down to the one yard line.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
It's just jet motion in Nurrenberg. And listen, I mean
they're kids, right, you see that. That's why you do that.
You run that jet motion, you fake that handoff because
human nature, you go towards that.
Speaker 4 (50:48):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
Ty Thaling's gonna carry the football in that situation. He's eighteen,
he's their best ball carrier. And that time you get
thirty one yards to the one, walk has stopped to
sailing out of bounds. Nine twenty eight to play in
the game. I formation pull in front of Luke Nurrenberg,
but it's quarterback sneak right up the middle. Tye failing
with his third rushing touchdown to the game, and paemois
Valia quickly extends its lead back to three scores.
Speaker 3 (51:10):
Kind of the high school version of the tush push
there right up the middle, almost impossible to stop. And
uh A quick answer after North Muskeigon got back in
the game, A quick answer for the pirates that might
put this one out of reach. You're not a whole
lot of time left and the visitors are up by
three scores.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
Kevin happened to the sophomore has been a perfect three
for three up point after touchdowns tonight, I'll try to
make it four for four and extend this PW lead
at twenty two points. Good snap, good hold, good kick.
Poem Osvalia twenty eight, North Muskegan six. We'll be right back.
This is the LMCU Lake Short Game of the week.
(51:50):
On one O seven m us the Moose paum Ois
Vellias said to kick it off. Kevin Happner's got to
teed up the forty yard line. Northwm Keeken's gonna get
it back here down twenty eight to six, nine to
twenty five to play in the game. After his kicks
a good one, It's gonna chase Colin Bartos back to
his own five yard line. Takes it on the run,
running to the left, across the thirty, Bartos to the
forty and out to the forty eight yard line. Nice
(52:11):
return that time by Colin Bartos. But North Michigin is
gonna need points in a hurry against a really really
good defense.
Speaker 4 (52:18):
Trailing twenty eight to six.
Speaker 3 (52:20):
Yeah, and I gotta believe Colin Bartos is the guy.
I mean, he showed it there on that returns. He's
electrifying in the open field. I think their hope here
with a little over nine minutes to go is to
try to get number six the ball in the open
maybe maybe a short pass or.
Speaker 1 (52:36):
He's able maybe to shake a defender and take it
to the house, because he's just that kind of player.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
But it is Keith Kerzman who is gonna be in
the game at running back next to Colbert. Carlton Williams,
the sophomore, is in it receiver along with Happa and Burrell.
First and ten North Muskegan. Colbert straight back to pass
out of the gun, has time, throws complete to Williams,
(53:07):
cuts it back at the forty Williams down inside the
thirty five, close to the thirty four yard line. Nice
play by the sophomore nineteen yards in a North Muschigan
first down.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
I'm telling you, Jay, for those people listening at home,
they might see the score twenty eight to six. This
is not a bad North Muskeigan team. It's a very
good Palomo team. But I'm seeing some weapons out there
from North Muskegon that are gonna get better. As the
year goes on, Carlton Williams, there another junior nice job
there was catching the ball and then making some nice
yards after the catch. We saw Keith Kerzman Drew Gabriel.
(53:43):
So this North Muskegan team is gonna.
Speaker 1 (53:45):
Be all right.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
Nathan Tale doesn't like what he sees either. He's got
a time out here, so time out of the field
will step aside. This is the l MC Lake Shore
Game of the week. I want to seven m us.
The first intent cobrat back to pass looking deep, it's
gonna be intercepted.
Speaker 4 (53:59):
Ties with the pick for Poamo.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
He brings it back across the forty yard line to
the forty two the third Pirate takeaway of the game.
And Thalen's Knight just keeps getting better. Three rushing touchdowns,
a passing touchdown, and now on defense and interception.
Speaker 4 (54:17):
As the Pirates are on their way to a Week
one victory.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
Kind of makes it easy for me if I have
to pick the player of the game, because ty Thalen's
been doing everything, and you know, for Bryce Colbert, you know,
such a great, great year as a junior. Tough night tonight,
but that's so he's gonna be okay. You know, a
little bit of humble pie every so often is not
a bad thing. And like I said, I think this
is a really good Palamo team. Troy Forton, who actually
(54:44):
played football here at North Muskegan is now the ad
at Palamo. He thinks this is one of the best
teams they've had in years. And we're talking about some
state championships in there, So this is a really good team.
Speaker 2 (54:55):
Thalen loses the ball ty failing, the quarterback loses it
back in his own thirty seventy yard line, so it's
gonna be a loss of four there on first down
to bring up second and fourteen. I gotta tell you
this time, like we've seen forty minutes of football, this
is a really good Poemost Villa team, no question. I'm
not sure I'm ready to say it's the best team
I've seen in the last ten years. I mean they've
(55:16):
had they've had some. I mean that team to beat
Luma Christie in the state championship game. I remember that day.
I mean, no Luma Christie walked into their thinking they
were gonna win that game by you know, five scores
like that. That was the best Poemost Valia team I've
seen sure, and I mean it's too early to make
a call in this one. I mean, this team certainly
has the potential to get there, but that's a pretty
high bar. Second out of fourteen for the Pirates, and
(55:40):
they're gonna pitch it now. We got a penalty flag.
We're gonna a legal procedure here, and it's gonna buy
that back. Pwup even a little more.
Speaker 4 (55:50):
Seventy five.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
Donnie Wilkie Jones getting into the defensive line for North
Muskegan Belding Leeds Ionia sixty three seven In case you
were wondering there TK.
Speaker 3 (56:04):
After trailing a little bit early. Yeah, that puts their
foot on the gas.
Speaker 4 (56:08):
That's the old fifty seven unanswered. They'll get it done
most of the time.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
Spring Lake all over Fruitport forty two to fourteen. You know,
Cranville has extended their lead thirty seven to twenty seven
over the Skeigan.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Sorry Jay you were saying.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
I just Cody Mallory's bunch is intriguing to me. I
think wes CALEX the team to beat in the Okay White,
but I think Springlake has a real chance to win
a lot of games this year.
Speaker 4 (56:28):
In that Okay, why we'll be a streme to follow.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
That one second down to twenty after the penalty art
is it is marked off. PW's just going to pitch
it to Alexnernberg. He's gonna run back across the forty
close to the original line of scrimmage.
Speaker 4 (56:39):
It'll set up third down at about ten.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
Yeah, certainly a great start for Spring late tonight. They've
kind of owned Fruitport in that battle to Bayou in
recent years. Will be the third win in a row
and their seventh win in their last eight meetings against Fruitport.
Speaker 2 (56:57):
Call it again at ten for Alex Nurenberg. Third down
and ten now for Puemo Westvlia Rust Moskegon still has
all three timeouts trailing twenty eight to six, seven minutes,
fourteen seconds left to play in week one for these
two teams, and North Muskeigan's gonna jump off sides that
time hard count for PW. On third and ten. North
Mischigan took the bait. It'll be third and five now
(57:20):
for PW.
Speaker 3 (57:23):
A great job there with the hard count and make
all of a sudden making it third and manageable. Here.
Speaker 2 (57:28):
You talked about that Granville Muskeigan game. Still some time
lap and now Grahanville.
Speaker 4 (57:31):
Up two scores.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
We're headed to Hackley Stadium next Friday night as Rockford
comes to town. How with the Rams in an absolute
slaberknocker twenty eight twenty eight?
Speaker 3 (57:40):
Was Selene well that last I saw? I just saw
Selene thirty to twenty eight. They might have got a safety.
Well at least that's what it looks like. So could
be two very good Owen one teams going at it.
Speaker 4 (57:52):
None of the last.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
We're excited about that one next week at Hackley Stadium
for sure. Tythalan gonna run it on third and five,
got out of two tacklers and got a first down
inside the forty and down to the thirty nine yard line.
Fourteen yards for Tythalon, who was not once but twice dead.
Speaker 4 (58:07):
The rights in the backfield.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
Oh yeah, they had him behind the line of scrimmage.
A couple guys missed him and he just turned down.
The Jets got the first down, and now it's just
milk the clock time. If you're the Pirates leading by
twenty two points, they don't need to do much of
anything the rest of the way.
Speaker 2 (58:24):
They do bring it back to the forty yard line.
So it's again of thirteen for Tythethaling, who's had quite
the night. Three rushing touchdowns, a passing touchdown. On defense,
he has an interception. Of course, they had high expectations
for eighteen. We're eight last year as a junior, switching
number eighteen this year, and he's the leader of this
football team. He's played like it tonight, twenty eight to six,
(58:45):
Pelmost Value. We go under six minutes to play in
the fourth quarter. I formation for Pemos, fea play action
and the pass is incomplete. Very surprised to see Pemos
Viley go to the air there. It was a short
quick out to their tight end, but it was one hopped.
Speaker 3 (59:05):
Yeah, certainly no need to do that. But they're uh
sticking to their game plan. I guess mixing it up
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Not like they were taking a deep shot, which that
would have been probably uncalled for, but still surprising. Second
out and ten five minutes, fifty seconds to play in
the game. Eli Thalens put out wide left. You know,
only six Salens on this puemost Value team. It's actually
a much smaller number than we're used to sing. They're
gonna give it to number six Blake sailing right up
(59:35):
the middle of the full back. They're out of the eye,
gonna go for about four down to the thirty six
yard line. Seriously though, I mean they've had double Digitalens.
Speaker 1 (59:42):
Oh, unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
And there's just as many Thalens on the Fouler roster too,
because I've covered Fowler.
Speaker 4 (59:48):
Kennick, Schnick, lot of Kennick Schnick, Kennis Schnick.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Yeah, last check, by the way, Fowler trailing Hudson twenty
two to six tonight.
Speaker 4 (59:56):
Of course, Hudson a state contender Division eight.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
That's another good matchup of small small school football, just
like this one.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Here tonight, clock running five seventeen to play regulation. Ty
Thalen in the gun and he's gonna hand it off.
Running right is Luke Nuremberg, the junior. He's inside the
thirty five down to the thirty three. Two Nuremberg's, two Drysdale's,
I think three Narrenberg's on this team. Actually, we throw
in fifty six Brock Narrenberg as sophomore, a couple of Hoon's, and.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
A lot of players for a Palamo, a lot of
players in their program.
Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
They had about thirty kids on the JV team last.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
Night they got more than that number on the varsity.
That's a pretty good numbers at the Division seven level.
I mean we're seeing even at some of the bigger
schools in the area. Mona Shores numbers are down, Muskegan's
numbers are down.
Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
But Palamo those kids like to play football.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
I guess yeah, they've been pretty pretty darn good at
it too. We'll forget to stay tuned to our Best
Financial Credit Union post game show coming up after this one.
We'll recap the scoring look at some stats. Have a
rapid radio scoreboard check four nineteen to play in the game,
we got a timeout on the field. Plumos Valley is
faced with a fourth and three at the North Muschigan
(01:01:21):
thirty three yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
Also, don't forget to check.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):

Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
It sounds such a great page for everyone to bookmark.
Speaker 4 (01:02:38):
Huh oh, I got it bookmarked.
Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
Yeah, I'm there all the time working on your craft.
I know.
Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
Jason Hutt.
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
The only way to get better, right, TK, you got
you gotta listen.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
Back and yup, listen to yourselves and listen to other people.
Speaker 4 (01:02:51):
That's right, all right?
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Tyd Dalen gonna run it on first down, cuts it back.
He's inside the twenty five pushing his way to about
the twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:02:58):
Three yard line. PJ. Wimer made the tackle for North Muskegan.
Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
You know, Jay, looking at North Muskegan schedule outside of
this game, it's really back heavy.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
A lot of their tough remaining games are at the
end of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
Their last four games Montague, Ravana, Newego, and oak Ridge.
But after this game they host Shelby next week. North
Muskegan should be able to get on a little bit
of a roll, get their mojo back, hopefully, and then
we'll see what they're made up down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Well, don't forget they have. They're at Muskeg Mason County
Central in two weeks. I remember last year, early in
this season, Mason County Central came here and North Muskegon
ran out to a lead, and the Spartans came came
flying back and made that a football game. And I'll
tell you what I think that's Mason County Central as
a team that took second last year.
Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
I think there's potential for.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
That game early on in the schedule to be really
really important in this conference race.
Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
Last year, of course, they had their great Peyton Murrs,
one of the great running back, one of the best
in school history. He's gone, so they have to replace him.
But yeah, David Smith of the former Ravana coach, he's
done a good job up there in Scottville.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
And they are one to know. They beat Lakeview tonight
thirty five to nothing. So the Spartans start one and oh,
all right, we're ready to go second and four in
the twenty three and they gave it's gonna be a
Luke Nurrenberg running left inside the twenty down to about
the fifteen. He's got a first down, eight more yards
and Poemal Westphalia will move the chains. So the Pirates
(01:04:31):
are going to go to one to Oh you look
at their schedule. Their home for Saranac next week, then
they go to Bath at Langsburg course. They're big, and
when we'll be at home against Fouler in October. They
closed the season against Lanson Catholic d six runner up
a year ago. But I think they're going to be
a favorite in a lot of their games moving forward
to and I agree with you time you talked about
that at the top. I think there's a potential we
(01:04:51):
see these two teams play again in the D seven playoffs,
and that North Moschigon to me, looks like a team
that's gonna grow. You know, they got a lot of
new guys in important spots, and I can see this
team getting a lot better each week and we could
have a different game maybe come the postseason.
Speaker 1 (01:05:06):
Oh, I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
I think there's a there's some definite potential out here.
It's not the kind of game where you just shrug
your shoulders.
Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
Luke Nurrenberg running right on first down, he's inside the five.
He's got another first down out of bounds at the two.
Maybe the one set up first down and goal for
the Pirates. It looks like they're gonna have a chance
to tack on another score here as we have just
two twenty two to play in regulation. Plama West Valley
leading North was skiing in twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
Eight to six.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Just got a nice text Jason from Ryan Porting of
the former athletic director Amona Shores.
Speaker 4 (01:05:39):
It was school principal at PW.
Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
I believe it's the high school prince. I think so. Yeah,
he's the principal of PAMA West Vale.
Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
He was at the game. He had his girls with
him and they just left. Are heading back, but listening
to our broadcast. So thanks for the nice text there. Ryan,
hope you're doing well in at your new spot. Ryan
Portinga played football for North Muskegan here as part of
the co op when he was at Western Michigan Christian.
Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
I miss seeing Ryan around back in these Mona Shorre's days.
Here's Luke Nurremberg run and left, He's in the end zone.
Touchdown Poamo West Valia Luke Nuremberg. The first non tithe
faling involved touchdown and North and pamo's Vley extends its
lead to twenty eight.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:06:23):
Now the now, the North are just run out of
gas at this point and PW having its way.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
This is going to be a This is going to.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
Be a score that will catch a lot of people's
attention around the state because North Muskegan is a Teina
spended the state semi finals two years in a row
with their quarterback back with some other pieces back and
at home. Really getting hammered here by the by p W.
This is a very very good team.
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
The extra point from Hafner is up and good. Poemo
West thirty five, North Miskeigan six, two fifteen left will
step aside. This is the OMCU Lake Shore Game of
the Week on won O seven mus the moves Jason
and in time Candra back at Fred Jack's Field, Palmas
Villa thirty five, North Moskeigan six. We got ninety five
(01:07:16):
seconds left in this one. North Miskegan's got it fourth
and six on their own thirty four yard line. Bryce
Cober back to pass, dumps it off to Drew Gabriel
shoestring catch across the thirty to the thirty five. The
official is going to call it incomplete, say it hit
the ground, So Poemo West Valley is going to get
the football on downs.
Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
That's kind of the story of the night there. Jay
North Muskegon looked like it might have had something there
and instead the ball just touched the ground before Drew
Gabriel could get going with it.
