Speaker 2 (00:09):
Holy negative trifecta, Ty Hallick. Let's dive right into this.
What a weekend to forget as far as football fans
in the Mitten State, and we've got to just kind
of right headlines in front attack some of these issues.
We'll start with Michigan State. I mean, thirty eight to
thirteen to Ucla. They ran for two hundred and thirty
eight yards of the Bruins on a defense they just

(00:30):
look lifeless, lack of energy. Steve and I were there.
I mean, it was a brutal loss, one of the
worst I can remember at Spartan Stadium.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Yeah. I don't know what to say. I mean, it
just seems like, to your point, the lack of energy, enthusiasm,
a common goal, a guys rallying together, pride, all those
things that you look for in a football team, and
particularly despite in general, it just wasn't there. You felt

(01:01):
like you looked at two teams that are going in
opposite directions. And I think that the only good news
in it is is like in u CLA's case, you
can pivot at any time. At some point and some
time you got to dig deep, figure out and attack
those things that you're not doing well or whatever those

(01:24):
problems are, and get afperate. I think there's there's some
soul searching in and quick, better be quick, you know,
things to be checked out at Michigan State for the
entire team and coaching stats well.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
And as you saw in the case of Penn State,
one of the headlines today James Franklin fired yesterday. Now
I'm not for firing coaches. UCLA has already fired their
coach of the Big Ten, but also it can go
south quickly, as we can see. I mean, just a
matter of three games ago, it was a big game
with Oregon and James Franklin is out. I'm not saying
that with Jonathan Smith, but obviously the hot seat is
getting warmer. Now you go from there to you USC

(02:00):
hosting number fifteen Michigan, and boy, the Wolverines didn't show
a lot of fire either thirty one to thirteen. Now,
I give a lot of credit to Lincoln Riley in
this game plan for USC getting the ball out quickly
and they kind of exposed to Michigan secondary.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Yeah, I mean they did. But I think what sticks
out to me more than that is, you know, we
talked about this on Friday. I felt I was bullish
on Michigan right. Defensively, you felt like they were in
good position and they did give up some balls downfield,
but it's not like it was something crazy in terms
of stats. Mayeva was twenty five of what thirty two

(02:40):
for two hundred and sixty five yards. What really stood
out to me is, which is the opposite of what
Michigan has been defensively is the run game. Yeah, USC
pounding them for two hundred and twenty four yards and
King Miller, who's actually a backup at one point in
that game, was ten carrier for one hundred and forty

(03:01):
four yards, so fourteen yards of carry, but he ended
up eighteen for almost one sixty one fifty eight for
eight point eight yards per carry. That is very, very
un Michigan like. It's not something that they're used to
or accustomed to. You've seen in recent time. That's something
that's got to be corrected. Give give USC credit perhaps

(03:22):
the West Coast trip and all those things, but you
know what Washington's gotta come their way this week. I
think there's an opportunity for Michigan to get back home
and get some things corrected. But that was a tough,
tough loss. But the physical battle in the run game
from usc was just a difference.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
In the game and finally last thirty seconds. It just
happened last night, obviously, on Sunday Night football. Kansas City
wins at home over Detroit thirty to seventeen. Not as
surprise about this one as the other two, just because
everyone's been talking about Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City starting
to trend in the right direction time.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, I mean there are two great football teams. You
saw it on display last night. Look, some things didn't
go our way right out of the gates. You know
a funky NFL rule that you know. I guess you
gotta set as a quarterback when you're going to go
into motion and catch a football. The reality of it
is Detroit is still a good football team. They're fine.

(04:13):
They do have some injuries, and I think the secondary
part of it, particularly at corner, the way that they
like to play man showed a little bit. But I
think two good football teams. I think you bring Kansas
City Detroit. I think Detroit could win that football game too,
So we're in a good position. It's just you know,
big time game night, and we just didn't get it done.
