Speaker 2 (00:11):
All right, Ty was Rivalry weekend on Saturday. It started
up in big rapids. But we're going to start Any's lancing.
Saturday night is number twenty five. Michigan coming to town,
trying to make it four straight into Paul Bunyan Trophy battle,
and they did. Thirty one to twenty. Was a ten
to seven game Michigan and a half. Your assessment, I mean,
things picked up. As far as the rushing game. Justice

(00:31):
Haines was fantastic in that second half, twenty six carries,
one hundred and fifty two yards and two touchdowns. You
know important the run game is. And I thought the
offensive line and the defense started to take over from Michigan.
But as I looked at this game, and I think
the reaction is from both sides, even though Michigan got
the win, some pretty ugly football, right.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, Well it wasn't really. I mean, I've been obviously
played in them. I've been to a lot of them,
and I I just watching this game just made you
kind of stand back. This rivalry is so much better
when both teams are doing well, and certainly Michigan's doing

(01:12):
better than the Michigan State at this point. But when
these teams are both solid in you know, the top
third of the Big ten or the top of the
Big ten, and there's you know, more on the line
that we had a good run where that was the
case for some time, but having a team that's off,
you know, it's exactly what you expected from Schromore and
his football team in terms of they were going to

(01:32):
run the football. They believe they were better up front
on the offensive side. It probably held true defensively. I
think they weren't super worried other than containing Aiden Childs
and you know, we just it was just one of
those games to your point that was I kind of
came out as expected, but it was a little bit

(01:53):
sloppy at times. I mean Michigan didn't even they threw
the ball like seventeen times, right right, They were going
to rear their head back, run the football, win the
football game, and move on. I just it begs the question,
with all the things that are going on in football
right now, you know, where does Michigan State. Where does

(02:14):
Michigan State ultimately want to be and how are they
going to get there? And those are tough conversations to
have figure out and try to set some direction with.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
I think the broadcasters said it right. I think the
MVP of the game both sides was Jimmy Rolder, number thirty,
the linebacker. That guy just made plays. Me had ten
tackles to lead Michigan one sack, two tackles for loss.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Anytime.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
It was a big play that needed to be made
to stop Michigan State. He made it. He was fantastic.
And that's nothing against Justice Haynes or anyone else. The
other thing to before we leave this game, do you
realize I told Steve Kelly was in attendants and needed
to realize this. There were thirteen punts in that game.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Thirteen.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, it's amazing. It was not a like to your point.
It was football and its purest finance. Look, but nonetheless,
Michigan gets out of there with a victory. Michigan State
continues to look for some different answers on all sides
of the ball, and you got to move on with
the rest of the Big ten and figure out how

(03:16):
you can make some hay here, yep.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
And Michigan does control their own destiny. I mean, they
still have Ohio State. They got a very favorable schedule
the rest of the way. We'll see what happens trying
to get into that college football playoff. All right, We've
got the GLEEAC, Farris State, and Grand Valley State in
the Anchor Bone Classic. And I tell you what, Grand
Valley State kind of the lesser team going in after
that loss to sang it On Valley State. But once
again they travel on the road and give Farah State

(03:38):
everything they wanted thirty eight to thirty one. The Bulldogs
pull it out. They have a twenty two game winning
streak now going for Farris State. But I mean they
were rolling everybody. Credit Grand Valley State. I mean they
were right there to the end in this one.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah. And you know they had an opportunity at a
four down stop that ended up being a penalty and
off sides penalty that created a different opportunity late in
that game. You know, get Fair State credit for holding on.
Grand Valley certainly looked to have some opportunities to win
the football game, but you know, Fair State held on,

(04:13):
was able to hang on to it get the on
side kick at the very end. But that's exactly what
a rivalry game should look like. It's fair State came
out on out on fire. The wide receiver Brett had
I think four touchdowns in the first half, and they
just continued to battle. They kept it close. They left
everything out there and you know, either team probably could

(04:35):
have won that game, but fairri State took care of
business and gets out of there with the victory.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Ty thirty seconds. Is the story that we can't avoid
Brian Kelly getting fired. I know you're a good friend
of his, and this isn't just even about Brian Kelly.
College football has gotten crazy with the firing of coaches
right now. I mean, I don't know where people are
going to plug in to fill in these vacancies.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, I
don't think you know, I've known Brian for quite some
time and he's got, you know, a pretty restive record.
Everyone doesn't always love you in that business, and that's fine.
I think at the end of the day, when you
look at it, some of these you know, larger programs, uh,
Once you lose people in the important spots at the university. Uh,

(05:17):
it's hard to recover. And I don't know what I
don't know at this point, but it's obvious that, you know,
whether it's Penn State, l s U, some of these
big programs Florida, they also are under extraordinary pressure that
if there's availability or they think they can get somebody
to get them where they want, uh, they get creative
and try to figure that stuff out. So it's it's tough,

(05:39):
it's unfortunate, affects a lot of people, but nonetheless it's
that that's the job, and that's that's that level. Uh
and and you've got to keep on you know, keep
on moving.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
We'll discuss that coaching position at Michigan State on Friday.
