Speaker 1 (00:00):

Speaker 2 (00:10):
All Right, due to the headlines that broke yesterday with
the Michigan State football situation, We're going to start there
with the Spartans, Ty Hallick, and then we'll go to
the game, your thoughts on Ohio State and Michigan and
the snow on Saturday, and then we'll end kind of
with the disappointment on Turkey Day with the Lions and Packers.
So let's start with I think everyone expected MSU to
officially move on once the season was done. They do

(00:33):
get a big Ten Conference win on Saturday Night over
Maryland thirty eight twenty eight. But then it comes out
yesterday Jonathan Smith done after two seasons. And it looks
like right now all indications could be as early as
today tie that Pat Fitzgerald, the former Northwestern head coach,
is going to be the new head football coach at MSU.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, it certainly seems that way, and I think a
good hire. You know, at the end of the day, obviously,
if it is the case, that there's a pivot this quick.
It's spend in the works for a little bit of time.
You know, Pat Fitzgerald is a very well respected coach.
Players loved him. Crazy situation there in July of twenty

(01:12):
three with the whole firing and university you know, accusations
and YadA YadA that played out in the courts, and
Pat Fitzgerald won that case that he was not involved
with some of the shenanigans that they were saying that
was going on, et cetera. So I think this is
an opportunity one for him, A big ten guy, a

(01:34):
guy that's very well respected, a guy that I think
Spartan fans, if this is the route they go, will
enjoy because he's going to articulate a message. He's gonna
he's gonna promote Spartan toughness. He's gonna be you know,
he's he's he will be a blend of old school
and news school where we're at the college ranks these days.

(01:55):
And I gotta believe, more than anything, having known him
a little bit on Fringes through some different friendships and whatnot,
he'll bring a passion and desire to win at Michigan
State that I think will resonate with the fan base.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
And I think as far as recruiting and being a
Midwest guy, like you said, big ten guy from the
Chicago area, he's going to do fine. I think he
translates well with recruits and with their families. I know
Tommy Doles played for him, Jack Doles's son, sports director,
you know Jack, and very pleased with the situation. Marcus
Cisco a walk on from Byron Center and his dad
a coach at Byron Center. And I just think, at

(02:32):
fifty years old, in the way that Michigan State is
in this situation, he was a perfect fit. If he's
the guy I think to come in and did well
at Northwestern. If you can recruit a Northwestern I think
he can recruit with some of the money he'll have
behind him at Michigan State. All right, let's go from
there to the game. Number one, Ohio State. Rough start
for the Buck guys, look good for Michigan early, but

(02:54):
then Jordan Marshall hampered with a shoulder injury. He goes out,
tries to come back. It was all Ohio State though,
twenty seven to nine over Michigan, and I think the
Buck guys may be their most impressive game. They played
complete game this year.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, I think so. I mean, I think the unfortunate
part for Michigan is, you know, they're dinged up. They
don't have you know, all the players that they needed healthy,
but they're young. One of the keys that we talked
about last week before this game was time of possession.
In Ohio State just owned it. I mean early Michigan
showed those good signs, got up six to nothing, turned

(03:28):
over Julian sand who ended up with two hundred and
thirty three yards. But time of possession was key in
Ohio State won that forty minutes and one second to
nineteen fifty nine for U of M. And quite frankly,
I think the first half versus second half really tells
the tail too. You know, only thirty nine yards in
the second half for Michigan. Ohio State really hunkered down.

(03:53):
So a big win for Ohio State as they continue
on towards the college playoffs. But you know, if you're
a Michigan fan, you know you were injured your young team.
I think the future is bright. I think they'll continue
to reload, move forward and do just fine.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
As a football fan, I gotta be honest, I know
Michigan fans are bumped. But number one Ohio State versus
number two Indiana for the Big Ten Championship this Saturday night,
pretty sweet in Indy, eight o'clock on Fox seventeen. And
then finally your thoughts. Disappointing loss for the Lions on
Turkey Day thirty one to twenty four to the Packers,
and you know what, Lions just got to try to
find a way to right the ship and get in
the playoffs, right.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, I mean there's no time to blink. I mean,
Saint Brown going down was almost felt like it was
a sign that things weren't gonna go well. Jordan loved
for TDS. The defense for Green Bay just teed off
on us, you know. And and to your point, when
you look at that game again, being aggressive going forward
on fourth down, we were zero for two. There were

(04:50):
three for three on fourth down. As an ext one
and excellent ext nation point to that game. But you
look at it this way. Look Thursday night, Dallas, you're
at the Rams, you got the Steelers, and then you're
at Minnesota and at the Bears. Who who would have
thought after Thanksgiving you talking about the Bears atop of
the division, Bears and Packers and the Lions in third

(05:10):
at this point. Kind of crazy scenario, but yes, they
got to figure it out. They've got to lift their
wounds and they got to figure out a way to
move forward and win some football games just to get
themselves into the playoffs.
