of that, local owner of Express Employment Professionals, Janis Petrini
back on the liveline with us today they're holding a
little Skilled Trades Day and Janis, thanks for joining us
this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Thanks you see, great to be here. Good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
We had a great conversation yesterday with the BBB. They're
doing a scholarship thing and we thought it's just perfect
that this ties in on the next week, on a
big day. The need for skilled trades is greater than
the number of jobs available.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Right absolutely, skilled trades will account for more than five
hundred and twenty thousand jobs in the Michigan economy, and
approximately forty five thousand new job openings are expected every
year in the state, but we don't have enough people
to fill those jobs. And actually they're about sixteen point
(00:56):
two percent higher than most occupations as far as just
the pay and the opportunity. So we're hosting a job
there tomorrow to really attract any skill trade candidate because
there's plenty of openings.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Jannis, are there some hot categories you can share with
us within the skilled trays that you know that are
out there right now?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Absolutely? There's industrial maintenance technicians, welders, fabricators, apartment maintenance facilities,
maintenance controls, technicians, all kinds of different types of openings
that are all available.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
So it's seventeen sixty forty fourth Street, Southwest Express Employment
Professionals ten to four tomorrow. If I'm somebody who's looking
for a job, there could be an interview on site
tomorrow right.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Absolutely, yep. Our team will be standing ready. We're interviewing
on site. There'll be refreshments, and there'll be an opportunity
to be able to visit about accellent live openings for
our West Michigan area.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
I'm going to get this in the podcast section atwoodradio
dot com for you to share with somebody. But what
should I bring if I'm one of those people interested?
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Well, if you have a resume, great, If you don't,
just your work history and just your willingness to be
able to share your skills and experience and your knowledge
with us about what you're looking for and also what
kind of opportunity is going to be the next best
step in your career.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
It's ten am to four pm tomorrow, forty four Streets Southwest,
Suite Tennis, Steve mentioned the other thing I wanted to
talk about Jannis, and I went through this with my
son when he was kind of looking to move from
a job he was in and just wanted to see
what was out there within his category. Is go do
these interviews, right, I mean, it's great interview experience. It's
(02:52):
great to find out the feedback you get back from them,
how your resume looks, is it attractive enough, maybe what
you could do or another job that you could add
to that that would be their right to make it
even a better resume moving forward with your career. There's
all kinds of little things you can get out of.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
This, absolutely, and interviewing is a muscle, you know that
you always have to be exercising, and so also you
can get job coaching in and advice about you know,
maybe some adjustments you should make or better interview tips
and so we've been in business, you know, for over
twenty nine years, and so we're always happy to help,
(03:28):
can you.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
And speaking of that, Jennis at Express Employment Professionals, if
I'm interested and maybe I'm not up to snuff or
certified with whatever a skilled trade, is there more information
about training available. A lot of companies actually train their
employees to get certified.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yes, there's so many opportunities at companies to be able
to upskill, be able to go into an apprenticeship program,
and companies are willing to pay people to go from
level one to level two with training, and so there's
a lot of opportunities if someone really wants to grow
in that field.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
All right, we'll get it. Get this in the podcast
section at wood radio dot com. Tomorrow National Skilled Trades Day.
Express Employment Professionals hosting that event, local owner Janice Petrini.
Always great stuff. Thank you for your time today.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
