Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, now the fun begins. That's what our friend Rick
Weist will be talking about tomorrow on Gardening Simplified. This
is West Michigan's Morning News. See Kelly Brett, Pikata, Lawrence Smith,
Adam A ro Joe and Rick. Holy smokes. Can you
believe we've managed to the Labor day weekend?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Oh? I tell you, where did summer go? It's unreal.
And as far as your landscape is concerned, right now,
it's as big as it's going to get. So now
as we enter this wonderful gardening time of September and October,
essentially what we're doing and what I'm doing is making

(00:39):
a list and checking it twice. They call me plant
a clause perfectly, because there is no better time of
the year than if there's a plant you want to move,
or you want to prune back, or maybe there's some
plants in your landscape that just need to get the
boots so that you can have a better landscape next year.
We remember the Brooklyn Dodgers and how they would always

(01:02):
say wait till next year. Well, now's the time to act.
And I was reading I was reading Psychology Today an
article the other day and it was talking about moving
your furniture around in your house can actually make you
feel better. It can elevate your mood. Not only do

(01:24):
you get a deep clean, but you know it really
improves your mood. Well, the landscape is the same way,
and so Stacy and I this weekend, we'll be talking
about spatial design and in keeping with that on YouTube.
This weekend, both Stacy and I will be revealing via

(01:46):
video our own personal landscapes to help inspire you.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Oh really, I always I've never been to West Acres.
I've all I feel like we're getting behind the ropes.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
You're getting behind the ropes, behind the curtain, all right.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Rick, We know at the start of the Labor Day
weekend it means those temps are starting to drop and
those little creatures are finding their way inside your home.
What can we be doing? I don't want them in
my plans. I'm really doing well at indoor plants. In
the second I see somebody sharing my space, I'm gonna
go nuts.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Well, it's a busy time of the year September and October,
not only in the landscape, but yes, also as far
as home improvement is concerned, and walking the perimeter of
your house and looking for those entry points and dealing
with that type of thing. Absolutely, But Lauren, you'd be amazed,
regardless of what you do, how many insects do end

(02:47):
up living over winter in your house. It's one of
those things where you're better off just not knowing how
many are there.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Hey, Rick, I got a crazy question. I'm just wondering
because I've seen it a little bit with my pool
and what's on top of it. But did the smoke
in the atmosphere from those forest fires and stuff? Do
we have any knowledge on Are they affecting our landscape
like anything with our grass or plants or anything that
we need to know about.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah, we've talked about that on the show, but generally not.
You know that smoke is in the upper atmosphere. Could
it affect plant material? Yes, but it's not. It's not
to the point where it has affected the plant material
within our landscape. No.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
I will tell you this too, In response to which
Schmid he had to say, your shop back is going
to smell weird anyway. A few stink bugs will not
make a difference a few hundred either, So that's always
been my Yeah, it's kind of fun actually when you
feel them go by on the tube.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
I love that sound.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
That's another one I do.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
I do that with Japanese beetles, know out on my plants,
and there's a fine art to avoiding sucking up the leaf.
But yeah, it's it's very therapeutic. Steve.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Wait wait, wait, breaking news. Do you actually do this yourself?
Or you just stand there and listen when Elfresco landscape?

Speaker 1 (04:15):
No, no, no, I can. I can suck my own bugs up.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Okay, so there you go, oh rowdy.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Steve, that's right. I drive my own car for now. Yeah,
Rick Weist with Gardening Simplified. You'll hear it at nine
o'clock tomorrow. Gardening Simplified on are dot com. Always great stuff.
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I have a great weekend.
