Speaker 1 (00:00):
Senate majority of your John Thune saying, this is the
first president in history he has never had at this
point in his presidency a civilian nominee approved either by
unanimous consent or voice vote in the Senate, says West
Michigan's Morning News Steve Kelly and Brett Bakeita, we're talking
about those who have been confirmed nominations moving through the Senate,

(00:26):
saying that they have been delayed or obstructed and blocked.
Let's get to the nation's capital, Washington. D C. Ryan
Smells with Box News Radio, Good morning, Ryan, Hey, good morning,
So talk to us a little bit about this process.
These are people that could be should be in their
positions already.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Exactly, there's over one hundred and thirty nominees that President
Trump is trying to get confirmed and leave a spoon
is kind of leading that effort on the Senate side. Now,
they're actually doing a pretty quick job of getting of
these nominees confirmed, but they are getting a lot of
stonewalling for Democrats and a lot of tactics to slow
down this process as much as possible over some different

(01:06):
issues that have kicked Democrats off throughout the short time
of the Trump administration. So Leader of Tunes actually got
them relatively ahead of schedule. But now you're starting to
see the process really slow down. And the one thing
Leader soon points out is that this is the only
presidential administration at this point to not have a nominee
either confirmed by voice vote or unanimous consent. And so

(01:29):
you know that that leads to this process really being
drawn out, where you have to go through the procedural hurles.
You have to vote on what's called cloture in order
to get to the debate. You have to have debate,
And the next thing you know, it's been a whole
day and you have you've only gotten one person confirmed
in that day.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah, and they're not all home runs like Marco Rubio
right was an Now, yeah, he made it all the
way through everybody unanimously. So when you compare this to
other administrations, is it obvious that.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
It's backed up?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
No? I mean they're actually kind of you know, they're
actually kind of ahead of schedule for the most part.
I think as part of the Trump's getting a little
impatient because he wants to as many of his staff
in in office as possible. You know, it's only a
four year term. So you know when when he's sitting
here in uh late July and he hasn't gotten over
one hundred and thirty people still in place, you know,

(02:23):
I think it's a little frustrating. So they are, they're
doing this at a relatively quick pace. Just it, it's
always going to feel slow.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Is doing a big dude. I'm looking at pictures and
he seems to be towering over there.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
He's tall, he's tau as convey. Yeah, he's probably easily
over over six five, probably close to the six seven
six eight.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Well that'll that'll do it. Ryan.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
One of the questions I have, and because you're in
it every day, uh is, and this is from a
bipartisan standpoint, is the American public and even the politicians
that are involved with this getting tired of everything with
the time. I mean, like you said, everything's moving a
little bit, you know, better than maybe in the past,
but just everything because of one side just wants to

(03:08):
hold up the other side. It just seems like it's
that gridlock constantly right on everything.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Well, this is this has been an ongoing debate about
the Senate for years, and that is that the Senate
just moves at a snail's pace when you talk about
just all the procedural votes that take place just to
get a bill onto the floor, and then of course
you know you have the filibuster and some of the
other and the amendments that get put on here. So yes,
I mean it's always been a thing that's been discussed,

(03:36):
is can they make the Senate move any quicker? But
then there's always the argument that it's an institution and
that's the way the things work. So I think there
definitely is a a debate that has been had or
discussions that have been had, But in terms of any
solid plans to change the way the Senate does things,
I think that's still up for debate. But yeah, you
see it on the House side, it does move a
lot quicker over there, where they're able to kind of

(03:58):
get legislation through pretty quick and kind of move things
along at a pace that they want to. So, you know, anyways,
there's this big backlog of not just the nominees but
also bills that have been voted on the House, and
you know, in Foone's case, especially when it comes to
getting the nominees confirmed, he's got to be very strategic
about which bills he brings to the floor because all

(04:19):
the time they spend debating a bill on the floor
or or voting on a bill on the floor, that's
time they could have been spent on getting somebody confirmed.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
So it's a good thing bill heusing is staying in
the house. Ryan Schmaus, for his sake, Fox News Radio
in Washington, DC, Thank you, Ryan.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Of course I have a good one.
