Speaker 1 (00:00):
What Radio News time now eight thirty six. We'll get
back to the trouble you're seeing on the roadways as
now fresh snow is increasing your slipperiness. I'm not a physicist.
This is West Michigan's Morning News. Steve, Kelly, Brett, Keita,
Laurence Smith, Toad the Wet Sprocket in the background. Makes

(00:21):
sense to our next guest, who's back in studio to
talk about year number two. We're talking about the second
annual Guiding Light Live Concert. Director of Development and Communications
for Guiding Light as David Maddie. You'll welcome back to
Wood Radio. Good morning guys, Thank you all.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Remember this song, So that voice, So that guy, that
guy isn't that awesome?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Tickets are on sale Monday. Talk to us a little
bit about the show.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Second annual Guiding Light Live Saint Cecilia Music Center. It's
going to be February twenty first. This year, we're doing
it again in the afternoon. We're doing four to six thirty,
which we thought worked out great because people can come
down and the show the Great Silent Auction see Glenn
Phillips from Toad the Wet Sprocket and then go out
for dinner afterwards. You know, it sort of makes a

(01:08):
nice evening in downtown grind rapids. But yeah, this is
one of our biggest benefits of the year. This is
what we decided to do for Guiding Light to raise
money to help support and fight addiction. But Glenn Phillips
from Toad the Rocket, We're so excited. But then we
also have our threesome of Michael Crittenen, our super songwriter, storyteller,

(01:29):
Ralston Bowles, Yeah, and Louise Coomb this year is coming
from Nashville, so there's going to be a trio of
Round Robin that they're going to do. I need to
mention we're so excited to have Eastern Avenue Church as
our presenting sponsor this year. They've been such a huge
supporter of the women's Recovery program, so they've stepped up,

(01:49):
and of course iHeart is sponsoring it as well.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
I got to tell you, I know you have a
great question, Brett, but I told David, Caitlin and I
who is also my is an alcoholic and recovery now
have a tradition where Thanksgiving morning we go to an
AA meeting. It's at nine o'clock and it's a packed
house and it's so cool. But there was a bus

(02:11):
from Guiding Light there this year and in all of
those shares, those people credited with a better life, a
new way. The work that you're doing at Guiding Light
is life saving, soul saving, transformational and so important.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Right, thank you for that. Yeah, you know I've told
you this before, Steven Brett. But for me working in
a nonprofit, it's amazing for me to actually be there
with the guys from the beginning, and they're with us.
You know that we work where they live, so we
get to see that transformation happen. And we're all about
taking men and women from consumers who are just about

(02:50):
to become consumers of state and health funding and that
type of thing. They're at their bottom, they're pretty much homeless,
their addictions are killing them. And then we turn them
into contributors so we transform their lives. They get back
to family, back to work, back to living a wonderful life.
So Guiding Light is amazing. I've been there three and
a half years now.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I've worked with you in a couple of different realms, David,
And what I love when I think you have a
marquee event when it comes to especially in nonprofit and stuff,
is when you can check all the boxes and it's
such a community participation thing. And kudos to you and
Michael and Ralston because I know those guys too and

(03:31):
what you've done because you're spotlighting local music, which is awesome.
The Saint Cecilia Music Center is unbelievable for people haven't gone.
It's benefiting Guiding Light and you mentioned Eastern Avenue Church
and you're gonna have more people that are going to
piggyback on this thing as it goes and it grows.
But I mean that's going to just warm your heart
because this is so cool in so many different ways.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
It really is. And we we were really excited with
last year's and how we almost sold the venue out.
We really want to sell the venue out this year.
Hundred seats there, so please get your tickets on Monday.
They're sixty bucks their general admission. So doors open at
three so when you get there you can get a
great seat. Well there's not a bad seat at Saint Cecilia, no,

(04:12):
but yeah, so Monday, Guiding Light Live. Sorry, Guiding Lightworks
dot org is the website we want to get get
your tickets. They're great stocking stuffers, right.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, wholeheartedly, and we'll be on it, continue to talk
about it. As we get a little bit closer to
the date, we'll have you back as well. Director of
Development and Communications for Guiding Light, David Maddiel. Thanks for
braving the storm and coming in.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
