Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, let's talk tariffs. Stop me if you've heard this
one before. This is West Michigan's Morning News, Steve Kelly,
It's Bred Pikita. Jonathan Savage with Fox News Radio is
in London. Really, any excuse to talk to Jonathan Savage
in London is what this is all about. Thanks for
joining us again today.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hello, good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
So what are world leaders saying now that President Trump
has sent these letters threatening an extra ten percent if
you're in his words? Are aligning with anti America and
bricks policies?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, Bricks is a group of nations that began with
the countries forming that acronym Brazil, Russia, India, China, and
South Africa. They are seen as trying to provide a
counterweight to the US dominated global order. And certainly President
Trump is not a big fan of bricks. I mean,
this group with numbers that are growing all the time.
Iran has joined, an increasing number of developing world nations

(00:59):
are either members or observers. They talked previously about maybe
starting their own currency to rival the dollar. And what
President Trump said is that any country aligning themselves with
the anti American policies of bricks will be charged an
additional ten percent tariff. Now what we understand is that
this would be conditional on new policies being enacted that
the White House thinks are anti American. But Bricks leaders

(01:22):
are not happy. The leader of the summit that's taking
place is now President Lula of Brazil said, we don't
want an emperor. We are sovereign countries. And Russia's foreign
minister says the globalization model, once promoted by Washington no
longer works.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
So, speaking of works, these tariff talks have shown some promise.
We've seen Great Britain and the United States make some
sort of mutually agreeable what do you do contract? I'm
trying falling out of words here, but us a little
bit more about what might happen when these other countries

(02:01):
given all this chat.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah, a money writing paper thing. So a trade agreement
is perhaps how you might describe it as the US
and the UK's case struck along with Vietnam. The US
has struck one with Vietnam, and they've got a sort
of partial deal ongoing with China. But a lot of
these talks are taking place over a very long period
of time, and that is why we have seen the

(02:25):
deadline to agree a trade deal extended once again. It
was July ninth, it will now be August first, when
the new reciprocal tariffs come into place. However, a recent
history is telling us, of course that if it looks
like a deal is about to be made and that
everyone's getting along fine, we could well see that deadline
extended once again.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Completely off topic, but between the countries yours and ours,
Now that this deal has been made, what's the mood
like about America and the current administration? I get it,
We've signed this what's it called again? Uh? Trade agreement?

(03:06):
I'm just kidding. If I go to Great Britain Justice
and an American how am I going to be treated?

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Hopefully with courtesy and respect. I would like to think, Look,
we are we have a longstanding relationship over here. We
like to talk about a special relationship, and it's very
important to produce prime ministers and they meet an American
president that the American president agrees that it's a very
special relationship. Now, of course, the UK long the junior
partner in this relationship because of the American economic and

(03:37):
military mind. But we share a common language, we share
common culture, and I think American's role was welcome here
no matter who's in the White House.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Well, I just wanted to We'll end with a positive note.
How's that, Jonathan Savage with Fox News Radio. Any questions
for us? It seems as if I'm always asking you questions,
and yeah, this is.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Another one sided relationship ship as well, isn't that I'm
the junior partner, You're the one asking the questions.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I we we know some things despite the questions that
you get from us. So if anything pops up, call
us up, book us for an interview.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
I will We'll turn the tables one day.
