Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thousands taking to the street in protests in Israel demanding
an immediate end to bring those hostages home from Gaza.
On the story this morning, Fox News Radios. Jonathan Savage
is in London this morning. Jonathan, thanks for doing this today.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Hello, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Yes, it has been a while since we've talked about it.
There's so much going on here and that's the last
thing that folks in Israel and those hostages want to
know about the rest of the world.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Right. Yeah, they don't want to be forgotten. And this
protest was led by groups representing the families of hostages.
They certainly don't want their loved ones to be forgotten.
But their message wasn't just to the world. Their message
was very strongly to the Israeli government. Now you said thousands,
they said hundreds of thousands took part in an attempt
(00:47):
to shut down the country, demanding the Israeli governments strike
a deal to get all the hostages home. Now, there
were protesters outside politicians' homes, outside military headquarters, even blocking
lanes and lighting bonfires on major highways. A huge amount
of fury and huge amount of concern for the safety
(01:08):
of the hostages that remain in Gaza. I should say
fifty hostages are believed to be in Gaza, of whom
twenty are still alive.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Oh boy, And how do we even know that, Jonathan.
We're not getting newspaper articles with proof of life. That's
just an educated guess pretty much.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah. And beyond that, the rest is down to the
way things are for them, because every day that goes past,
the risks increase to them, the risks caused by the captivity,
by the horrible conditions in which they are being held,
by the lack of aid and food getting into Gaza,
partially perhaps also of course, the risk of the fact
(01:48):
that they are in a war zone, and the fact
that the Israeli government has said that it's going to
begin a new offensive in some of the more densely
populated areas of Gaza. One of the concerns for the
protest and the families of the hostages is that a
stronger military action could mean a greater lisk to the
life of the hostages themselves.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
And to that end, and lastly, how were those protests received.
Netting Yahoo and his administration certainly have been they haven't
really been open to those sort of things.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
He Benjamin Nisana, who is accused by many of the
protesters of prolonging the war in order to prolong his
time as Prime Minister of Israel, because there are coalition
partners who have threatened to bring down the government if
a cease fire deal is agreed. One of those partners,
the Finance Minister, Bill is a Smotridge, called the demonstrations
a bad and harmful campaign that plays into Hamasa's hands
(02:44):
and attempts to get Israel to surrender to.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Its enemies that it is Jonathan Savage with Fox News
Radio back in London this morning. Thanks for your time today.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Thank you
