Speaker 1 (00:00):
Speaking of government shutdown, let's get the latest day twenty three,
Ryan Schmells with Box News Radio in Washington, d C.
What can we expect to see happen today?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Oh? So interesting development today. So Republicans are expected to
put a bill on the floor that would pay federal
workers who are essential, deemed essential and working during the shutdown.
So this is essentially going to be a dare to
Democrats to say, all right, are you going to support
this or not? Some Democrats have caught it a political ploy,
(00:31):
but you know, they only need eight of them for
this thing to pass, so we'll see who votes for it.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yeah, it is interesting. I saw Fetterman breaking with Democrats
over the shutdown, saying something like country over party? Are
any more feeling the pressure? Right?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Well, there have been three Democrats who have or i
should say three senators who caucus with Democrats, who have
voted with Republicans pretty much almost every single time on
the bill that would reopen the government. You've had Captain
Cortez Masto of Vada. You've had Independent Senator Angus King
(01:07):
from Maine, but he coxes with Democrats. And you've also
had Ton Fedderman, like you just mentioned, and so I mean,
I think most will expect them to vote for this
bill today, but who else could break and do so?
Speaker 1 (01:19):
And uh, this comes in a time when we get
word that SNAP benefits in November maybe halted. Democrats surely
have to feel their feet to the fire with that.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, there's a number of different federal programs SNAP, some
other assistance programs believe WIX under this too, that are
set to run out of funding starting on November first. So,
like we've said, you know, there's always been this argument
of well, you know, do we actually feel the government shutdown?
Is it's something that actually is as alarming as we
say it as well? You know, at first, you know,
(01:52):
maybe don't notice the government shutdown, but it's as it
drags on when it becomes a huge problem because yes,
you know, certain workers can maybe survive with that one paycheck,
so that's debatable. And then you know, it's when the
second and third paychecks hit, or it's when TSA is
is not being paid for over a month. And of
course now you have these food assystems programs that are
(02:14):
running out, aren't going to have money starting on November first.
I think that's when we start to see the impacts
of a shutdown really start to hit.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
As Ryan told us now the second longest shutdown in
history in Washington, DC with Box News Radio, Ryan Schmels,
thank you, of
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Course, thank you,
