Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, this is the third week, if we're counting, of
the partial government shutdown. This is West Michigan's Morning News.
Steve Kelly and Brett Meacato spent a little more time
with our friend Ryan Schmells with Box News Radio in Washington,
d C. Good morning, Ryan, Thanks for doing this today.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Of course, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
How weird is it? How are you affected by what's
going on there as you go into work on a
on a daily basis, We're hearing about an awful lot
of Americans that are finding some sort of strange trickle down.
What about a reporter for Fox News in Washington, d C?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
The U there is a lack of uh, you know,
the parking. Parking restrictions aren't being enforced from my understanding,
so there's a lot of parking. The traffics died down
a little bit here in DC, So I mean there's
a there's a triple trickle effect there, you know. I
was actual to talk to another radio host who said
that he had to call some get to get in
(00:54):
touch with the SCUC or something, but he hadn't been
able to because the FCC has closed till they reopened
the government. So it's gotten a little I think repetitive
here on Capitol Hill, where there's a lot of you know,
the press Speaker Johnson and Leader Jefferies that are in
the same press conference almost every day. One does it
in the morning, the other does it in the afternoon.
(01:15):
And also I think one thing that stands out too
is that, you know, when we talk about the people
here on Capitol Hill, I mean there's nobody here. The
tourists are out, so I mean navigating the hill is
a little bit easier because it's not as crowded.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
So last time we talked, we were still at odds
about the partial government shutdown when it comes to healthcare,
something that doesn't necessarily need to be addressed right now,
but needs to be addressed by January, and has either
side blinked since we had a longer conversation with you.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
I mean, like maybe there's a couple of people here
and there who are blinking. You know. Marjorie Taylor Green's
to talk about the need to you know, address this
healthcare issue and wants more of a plan from GOP
leadership on that. But when it comes to just you know,
the where things stand on the government funding part of this,
not really I mean both sides seem still seem pretty
dug in. Maybe we'll find out later today if they
(02:16):
have a vote, if they're any closer to getting more
Democrats to vote for the build out reel and the government,
but it seems like both sides are still pretty much
dug in.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
I think it was you that told us that regardless
of the payday, right, So, we're coming up on a
payday when those folks that usually gets get paid by
the federal government won't, but there are laws that say
they have to be eventually. It doesn't mean a lot
if you have paycheck to paycheck and you need it
for things like food or keeping your lights on, but
eventually everybody gets paid, right.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yes, Yes, I think President Trump had like floated this
idea of you know, not paying some federal workers or
some workers not getting backpacked. Democrats and some republic has
been pretty adamant at the law states that they have
to get back bay if that happens, and there would
probably be some legal action to fay didn't get their paychecks.
(03:09):
And you know, we are up on a military payday.
I believe on Wednesday, the federal worker payday for civilians
already passed they're not getting their paycheck. Apparently the Department
of War and the Trum administration to be able to
move some things around to make sure that military members
do get paid. But we don't know how long they
can do this for, so, you know, it looks as
(03:31):
though this is kind of where they are.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
All right, Ryan Schmells, We'll check in from time to time.
You're doing crossword puzzles or anything in that. How you
feeling the day outside of talking to bozos like us.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
There's always something to be done around these parts usually.
I mean, like I host the podcast every once in
a while, you know, just we're making it work here,
we're making it work there.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
It is Fox News Radios. Ryan Smells, thank you, of course,
thank you. Yep
