Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is West Michigan's morning news. Steve, Kelly, Brett, Kayta, Lawrence Smith.
It is Wednesday, December tenth, twenty twenty five. Our Trending
segment brought to you by Consumers Energy, dedicated to Michigan
and the communities.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
We serve.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
What's hot online and.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
What's talked now at Woodradio dot how.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
This is the Trending Now report on Wood Radio. Well,
as you may have guessed, a good portion of the
local schools are closed. If you are south of the
Greater Grand Rapids area, things are a little better, at
least for now. We'll get to traffic and weather in
about four minutes. Former County Commissioner Eileen Higgins elected as

(00:42):
Miami's next mayor yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
You chose confidence over chaos, results over excuses, and a
city government that finally works for you.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
So why is that a big deal? It's been a
report Republican for decades. We'll head to Miami. It's seven
forty five this morning to discuss just what that might
say moving forward. President Trump rallied with voters yesterday in
Pennsylvania to tout his efforts making the country more affordable

(01:19):
and safe. Too. When it comes to immigration, if you
don't share our values, contribute to our economy and assimilate
into our society, that we don't want you in our country.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
We don't want you.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
You may read more at woodradio dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
All right, also turnding this morning. Obviously, the weather is
our top story. Roads across West Michigan icy and slushy,
as those crews are out working the really problematic areas
north and along ninety six, multiple crashes in slide offs,
like I've been reporting all morning. We do have that
winter weather advisory until four o'clock. With temperatures dropping, a

(01:52):
lot of that is going to flash freeze, and we
are expecting another two to five inches depending on where
you're at. So if you are waking up this morning,
give yourself a lot of extra time. That's why so
many schools are called off as well, side roads, school parking,
lots all of them. Absolute nightmare.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
The school cancelation list generally blows up between like five
in the morning and say six thirty, and it continues
to do so right now. And as we've mentioned, if
you look at all of the counties in the listening area,
at least all of those are represented by a big
like Muskegan, Rockford, Grand Rapids, Grand Haven. Just go to

(02:31):
wood Radio dot com to find out more information.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Steve Kelly loves the hot stove league and we should
say season. That's what's going on right now with Major
League Baseball, the off season, and we have some free
agent signings. The biggest one slugger Kyle Schwarber and the
Philadelphia Phillies, finalizing a five year, one hundred and fifty
million dollars contract yesterday. Swarber led the NL with fifty
six home runs last season. He fit his second the
MVP voting. LA Dodgers got the best closer on the

(02:57):
free agent market yesterday, reaching a three year, nine million
dollar deal with former New York Mets reliever Edwin Diaz.
So the rich get richer for the Dodgers and the Tigers,
though did have an interesting agreement closer Kyle Finnegan. Remember
he came to us at the end of the year
Detroit in an agreement two year, nineteen million dollar contract.
That's depending on physical that according to sources yesterday on ESPN.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Those are just some of the stories that we are
following for you today. Outside of that, the big story
today is traffic and weather, We'll continue with complete team
coverage
