Speaker 1 (00:00):
And this is West Michigan's Morning News Steve Kelly, Brett Pakata,
Lawrence Smith, Ladies and gentlemen, with the privilege of calling
the action for the greatest team in baseball right now,
the Detroit Tigers. Dan Dickerson joins us on the liveline. Dan,
thank you for joining us today. Let's start there.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Thank good morning, guys.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Oh we're great and obviously for you, we're a feeling
of view. We can hear it in your voice and
your calls. We've talked about it. You know, when the
teams have it a down year, it can be tough
at the end of the year, but when they're having
to start like this, everyone, Dan, I literally everyone, and
I hear you guys talk about her. The broadcast is
hearkening back to the comparisons to this start with the
nineteen eighty four Bless you Boys, Team one.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, I that team to me, standalone, I mean, thirty
five and five is crazy. But it's just I just
like watching how they are building on what they started
last year. And you know, it's just I think we've
talked about it before. It's not obvious that that momentum
is going to carry into a new year. But they
(01:04):
put a lot of work into making sure that they
could do something similar, and they are just playing a
great brand of baseball, And I don't know, I just
I love the fact that winning series, you know, something
that age has always talked about. But to see them
just do it like every time out just to the
point where they lose the game and it's kind of like,
(01:26):
oh what happened?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
It is and you know, there's so many great storylines.
I'm going to ask you to try to narrow down
a couple because you talk about this during the broadcast,
But I mean, whether it's Javi or Baiez and his rejuvenation,
whether it's spencertorical sin and we were wondering about him
coming out of spring. I mean, Riley Green's another one.
They're all doing what we thought they would do, and
it's nice to see it all come together, right.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, it really is. And that's I think that's a
real fun thing in an export, right to see it
the pieces come together. You don't know, this is not
a science putting a roster together. That's why sometimes the
roster that seems like it should, you know, be a
superstar roster or whatever it might be that you know,
you added some players and this should be a better team.
(02:11):
It doesn't happen sometimes, and then sometimes a broadcaster goes
into a season going where are the runs going to
come from this year? Like I did this year, and
the pieces just fit together and it really gives you
a feel for the team aspect of baseball. And they
(02:32):
embrace it and they talk about it a lot, but
now we're seeing it in action. Rodnie Green was saying
the other day, I asked about the base running, how
good it's been, and he says, it's our identity and
it leads to not just you know, taking that extra
ninety feet, but mistakes on the other side energizes the dugout,
leads to better at bats, and you see the consistency
(02:56):
throughout the game. Like yesterday they kept adding on runs,
and you see the consistency kind of game to game
where they don't have these big highs and lows. I
was looking last year they scored two runs or fewer
in a third of their games fifty four games. We
don't see that this year because of the consistency. But
this whole team aspect of offense that they've embraced it.
(03:17):
It's just it's really something.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Voice of the Detroit Tigers on Radio to hear them
again tonight here on Wood Radio as they open up
a series at home with Cleveland. Dan Dickerson joined us
and Dan, the good news is you always talk about
the different poil, the different poles that you're going to
hit like a horse race. We're at fifty games right now,
Mooral Day weekends, stern Us in the face. The good
news for Tigers fans is we're going to get some
more help. Right. There's some guys that are injured that
are going to start to come back, right.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
And I was saying the other day, I mean it
could be even better. I'm not sure it can be
better offensively when you're averaging almost five and a half
runs to game, right, but I mean you're going to
You're going to add two really good players, maybe even
three in the next few weeks in Perez, Meadows and Veerling.
I think it'll probably be Veerling first, then Perez and
than Meadows. But they're all coming back. And I mean,
(04:05):
I have no idea how the roster's going to shake out.
It's a good problem to have. They're going to find
a spot for most of them. I mean, it may
be that you know somebody I don't know. I just
can't picture all them are going to be on this team.
And it's just like, I have no idea how the
roster is going to shake out. Sometimes he seems to
work themselves out. But Matt Wielding is just one of
(04:28):
those guys that you know, the players love him. He's
a real leader. He's and he's going to add a lot.
And it's already a team that's playing really well, but
that's that's a big ad. And then Parker Meadows, we
know how much he's going to add. And don't forget
about Winssel Perez because A. J. Hintch loves having a
switch hitter in this lineup, so allows him to be
(04:49):
the mad Scientist at an even higher levels. It's incredible
the fact that they're doing this without three regulars.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
You have an opportunity in the middle of this homestand
to get tickets coming up for the weekend, So make
sure you get to Tigers Baseball or be listening between
now and nine o'clock. We'll have a four pack to
give away to Sunday's game. Dan Dickerson, what a fun
job you have. Thanks for joining us again today.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yeah. Like I said, it's always a fun job. It's
just a little better when they're winning.
