Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, wait for it.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Oh, I failed it deep, It's way back. The Tigers
are going in the world days.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
There you go. How about Dan?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
This is Wes Michigan's Morning News, Steve, Kelly, Brett Pekita,
Lawrence Smith.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Hopefully you're not that kid on Brady Bunch.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
That was the Jinks Now radio voice of the Detroit Tigers.
Dan Dickerson, thanks for doing this today.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Brother, Good morning. How you guys doing.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
I'm I have to ask, how worried given what you've
seen from this amazing team still the best record in baseball?
How worried did you feel during that post All Star slump?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Not worried, I really wasn't. It was kind of stunning
to see the lose twelve out of thirteen after the
fifty nine and thirty four start. It's just kind of like, okay,
what I mean, basically, what is this telling us about
the roster? That the offense had been so consistent. I
knew it'd snap out of it. That was a pretty
rough stretch. I think they scored sixteen runs in the
first nine games after the break. But you do you

(00:57):
just and I think the reason is because you're reminded
and I get to talk to AJ and you just
look at his day to day. It's like, Okay, this
is a baseball season. Every year, guys, twenty six years
of doing this, I reminded, one hundred and sixty two
is long, probably too long, and you and then it
is it is good. I would say this on the
AAR and I did say this on the ear. I mean,

(01:18):
every other good team has gone through this or is
going through this right now. The Yankees are like fifteen
and twenty three in their last thirty eight, and the
Dodgers are struggling, Mets feelies, I mean, you go right
down the list, s Houston struggling. I thought they were
the best team for a while. So yeah, it was tough,
but I really wasn't worried because I'm like, no one's
going to catch the Tigers team.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Well on, you know what's funny about that, Dan is
right across the street whether Detroit Lions play. Remember what
happened to them at the end of last year with
all the injuries and they just continued to mount And
that was kind of what was going through my end
is I'm like, boy, can we just kind of get
off the injury bug? But like you said, that's baseball.
It's a long season. The latest obviously rhese Olsen. And
my question to you, with the trading deadline tomorrow at six,

(02:00):
how does that news impact even more what they might
or might not do coming up in the next thirty
six hours.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yeah. I think they've already reacted to that one by
getting Chris Paddock, and well, that may not you know,
on the surface, and I reacted this way too. It's like, okay,
that's that doesn't excite me a whole lot. But you
dig a little deeper and you you know, I know,
I know Scott Harris has picked up some guys and
it's like, okay, we can make this guy better and
it hasn't worked out. Well, that's going to happen with
guys who may be struggling, but they're taking chances on

(02:29):
guys who have stuff, You've got something to work with.
Chris Paddock falls into that category, meaning that he's going
to fill up the strike zone. His eras probably should
be lower if you look at it expected ras, which
you know can sometimes tell the story. It's low walks,
it's high strikeouts. Strikeouts are down this year. I think
they can get more out of Chris Paddock. I think
Chris Paddock will slider in the rotation and be fine

(02:51):
and is as good as results and no, but can
he absolutely do the job down stretch? Yes, And I
think the start of Tory Melton the other day certainly
gave it, but quite a bit of like a big
sigh of relief because like, oh, this guy, this guy
can go in the road station. That's one of the best.
That's one of the best hurts by Tiger's rookie I've
ever seen in terms of seven innings, five singles, good offense,

(03:14):
power arm. That was really good.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Let me get you two more names real quick that
obviously have been associated with the Tigers along with other teams,
and see what your gut feeling is. By the way,
Paddick will make his debut today, and of course we'll
have the call with Dan Over on ninety six to
one the game starting at twelve forty five. Let's start
with this one reliever we know about the bullpen, Ryan
Hellsley of Saint Louis.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Could he become Detroit top.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Of my list? Yep, right at the top of my list.
And you know we have no idea obviously, any rumors
you're here, are just that right? This came as interested in. Yeah,
well you can probably make that list ten times that long.
But that is a name that I just heard a
couple of weeks ago. I'm like, oh, okay, rental throws

(03:59):
one hundred closer for Cardinals would add incredibly to the
back end of this bullpen. I'd love to see it.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
All right, and then the other one you're playing against
right now, And I know there's about ten teams that
would love to have him. I don't know if he's
necessarily the priority need for the Tigers, but Suarez the
All Star.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
What do you see him in the Tiger's uniform?

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, well, because it's a rental. I think you'd have
to give up too much. The only comp I can
make is, you know when the Tigers traded JD Martinez
way all those years ago, and you know they got
very little in return, you know, and JD went off, Yeah,
and he got traded, So I think you'd have to
give up what it was I didn't you know, the

(04:42):
Tiger's got a whole lot in return for j D.
I think the asking price for a Suarez would be
much higher. Uh, And whatever team is going to get him,
would you know they're going to get more in return
for him? So no, And I just don't think. I
think with the pieces that AJ has right now, I
just I don't think a regular third basement creates a
lot of problems for playing time for other guys who

(05:04):
contributed a lot to this team.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Againnis Brett mentioned you'll hear it twelve forty five on
that sports station down the hall.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
And it's so nice to hear Dan when a winning
streak is happening, compared to you know what I mean.
I just felt for you as a play by play.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Guy, Dan, Yeah, you're wearing it under sleeve.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
I hear it too.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Detroit Tiger's legendary voice, Dan Dickerson, thanks for your time
as always.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Thanks guys too talking about it you too,
