(00:00):
Time now for our field better segment, because Michayla, because good news matters.
Mindy Dreyer brought to you each weekby Mosquito Authority. No Mosquitos,
no past, no contracts guaranteed.A season without Mosquitos is definitely good news.
Check it out at bugs bite dotcom. So mine good news is

(00:20):
actually great news, Michayla. Itwas so awesome to see my ninety year
old father in law, Dick Cortocratsback on a basketball court. The man
coached for more than fifty years, eight hundred and ninety wins, the winning
is coach in high school basketball historyin the state of Ohio and every state
tournament that rolls around, And Ikind of was wondering your opinion listening.
Do you like that it's being heldin Dayton's Arena and not the Shottenstein Center

(00:43):
because they moved it. The venueis a fantastic venue. I love it.
But I'm a big believer of youknow what, how cool for high
school athletes to play at Ohio State, whether it's football, State championship or
basketball. But the Dayton Arena isvery very cool, great venue. But
need to see him get awarded becausethey always award different coaches Milestone Awards,
two hundred wins, three hundred, four hundred, five hundred, you know

(01:04):
they do that. But he wasthe only coach in the state of Ohio
to get this award. It's theNaysmith Hall of Fame Morgan Wooten Lifetime Achievement
Award, and on the plaque itsays for making significant contributions to high school
basketball in the areas of coaching, mentoring, and leadership. And he has
definitely done that. But the onlyfunny thing about it right there and black

(01:26):
and white on the plaque that hewas awarded. Yeah, did cortacracks Archbishop
Alter High School? What Kaleida KaleidaHigh School? What? So there was
another coach who got another award andhe was from Archbishop Alter High School.
I bet you that coaches plaque saysKaleida High School. How do you give
a prestigious award like that and getthe school's name role? I mean,

(01:49):
somebody's getting talked to, That's whatI'll say. Like, that's a big
deal. We have to do awardsat work, and you want to make
you want to double check with yourvendor that everything is getting printed correctly.
On those. So is he goingto get it fixed? I don't know.
He doesn't care, you know.I'm sure the family might say something.
I don't. I don't. Ihope let's get it fixed before it
fixed for him, right, Imean, I don't know. I don't

(02:10):
even know if the Ohio High SchoolAthletic Association knows that that was a mistake
because mister k is so low key. But to be around him, to
see all of these other coaches inawe because he is still a living legend,
and the respect, and then Randy'swith us, of course, you
know, I'm with them, butall these coaches and refs. You know,

(02:30):
Randy is so well loved and sowell respected in that high school basketball
coaching arena, and I love tosee it. Again. I love good
things when they happen to good people. So that was my good news.
That is great good news. Andthe picture was really great. In fact,
we were just talking a little bitabout how she got down to take
the picture. It was it wasvery cool, aid, no stopping me.

(02:51):
Now, you know you want todo something, you're going to do,
so you're going to do something. It helps to have friends in high
places. It does it's not abad thing, ever, when you want
to get that shot. So Ireally mean for there to be something thematically
going on with me today between hottopics and what you were talking about,
but it turns out there is.So I saw a really great article and
I think this is good news becauseI think it is helpful news. And

(03:13):
I'd sent Mindy a New York Timesarticle about something else earlier this week,
and I couldn't read it. Icouldn't open it. Oh so I never
got to read it. That's whyI never responded to you. I know
you couldn't open it. Okay, well I might have to pass through my
phone so you can read it whilewe're here. But there was another article
called how to have a Happier andHealthier Relationship with your Phone, Mindy.
It's like the book we need touse. Start with one simple question.

(03:39):
You know that urge you get toreach for your phone without realizing it,
and then before you know it,you're an hour into a social media binge.
When you have that feeling, sayto yourself, do I really need
to do this right now? That'sstep one. If you can train your
brain to do that's that's an importantpart. Step two, take the most

(04:00):
out of mobile devices. You don'tneed that phone with you. We know
when you go into the bathroom,we have how many years we lived without
it? Right, right, Youdidn't have to live that way. You
don't have to go get your cupof coffee, you don't have to take
your walk. I know maybe youwant to like listen to music on your
phone, but take the mobile outof mobile devices, so when you're going
or like put it down on yourdesk when you leave your office to take

(04:24):
a walk. And then the otherthing is schedule tiny tech breaks. If
you're trying to spend less time staringat your screens, ten or fifteen minute
breaks might be a more practical option. So anyway, great article, and
there's more to it. There's alarmclocks, there's I mean, some people
delete social media from their phones. You and I can't do that given the
world that we live in in whatwe do, but you really can make

(04:46):
technology work for you. And Ithink our kids need to start doing this,
and that's why these are really happy, helpful tips, because you got
to start somewhere, and sometimes wehave to be the role models. It's
not just our kids. You know, you're reading all those things, and
I'm thinking to myself, I reallyneed to do that. I've reached for
my phone all the time. DoI really need to know? And you're
right. When we take the dogsfor a walk, that's to just be

(05:08):
my time with Randy and the dogs. That's it. With our phones at
home, you don't need them.I'm honestly, I'm not just saying this,
and you guys listening, let's dothis together. I'm going to try
to do it because I think wewould be happier as a society, as
an individual, as a country.Since we're not very happy that you told
us, yeah, without our phonesso much. Think of all those years

(05:28):
that we lived without cell phones. That's one thing my mom hated. She
hated anytime I was on my phone. Yeah, because I mean decades she
lived without it. So in themoment, be in the moment, So
just think about these things. We'llall try it out and be happier and
healthier just a little bit, alittle bit. So much to come.
In the next hour. We wantyour opinion on a picture that we've posted
inside What Matters with Mindy Michaela's Facebookgroup, So go there, check it
