(00:02):
Because you hadn't heard it enough thislast week, Hannah getting it in one
more time, total eclipse of theheart. Mindy Dreyer is in Madison,
Wisconsin, at the final game betweenthe Buckeyes and the Badgers softball game,
and Mindy, are we still holdingI know we had like that three minute
break. Are we still holding themoff? We are now at top of

(00:23):
the seventh, so it's the lastinning. My guys are up nine to
five. Person upply Kylin's girlfriend, that's about right now. Okay, so
she just made two big catches incenterfield, so let's see what happens.
But uh, it's been fun.The weather. I can't believe this is
like playing in the summer again. The weather's been beautiful up here, and
I know it's beautiful down in Columbusas well. How much do you love

(00:44):
the Madison campus? Oh my gosh, I had no idea it was this
nice. And on the lake it'sso big, it's so clean, and
the people, oh my gosh, you talk about Midwestern charm, how nice
everyone is, and they've you know, they've got that wis constant access.
They're great. I mean, Ican totally understand why people come to this

(01:08):
university. We went. I know, the spring game was yesterday for the
Buck guys, and you know LukeSickle is now the head coach here at
Wisconsin, so we kind of peekedin on their They didn't have their spring
game. They just had a practiceyesterday near Camp Framble stating the field right
off the side of it. It'scool to see. This campus is beautiful.
You know. My sister went therefor a year and my brother in
law graduated from there. Oh,I did not know that. I bet

(01:30):
they loved it. They did,and I when I was traveling for PI
FI, I was there for likea week. It was the year of
the George Bush al Gore election.I stayed up to like two am watching
election returns inside a sorority house. That's how I remember it. But it
was gorge that lake and those yellowchairs. Do they still have the yellow

(01:51):
chairs on the patio? I didn'tsee some yellow chairs, Okay, a
bunch of different chairs, And itwas just it's an outstanding school. I
bet it gets cold though, inthe winter. I'm sure it does.
You really have to have what Ilike to call a Chicago jacket up there
on that campus. In Madison.Something that you'll appreciate, and I know
a lot of our listeners will appreciateas well. My mom and dad lived

(02:14):
here right before my son was born. Oh, Kirsten, just god.
They had a grounder and a shortstop. He kind of mishandled it and so
oh they called her out. Now, I thought they were calling her safe,
and I think, no, she'sgoing back to the bag. They
said that first place and told herfoot so got to run her own base.
But anyway, my brother was bornhere in Madison, Wisconsin. My

(02:37):
parents had like a little kind ofa condo apartment that they were living in.
Yeah, And I said, Matt, can't be the address. I'm
going to go look it up.So he gave me a picture and the
address and we got to drive byand I took pictures of it. I
sixty five years ago. Sixty fiveyears ago. Do you know how neat
it was for me to see wheremy mom and dad kind of started their
marriage. Isn't that cool? It'svery cool. I'm so glad you got

(03:00):
that this year. Actually, totake that trip to go see that,
that's so cool. I love it. I love it, very very touchy,
so hot topics we got a fewminutes left. Still, if you
guys want to call us with anyof your eclipse stories, was it overhyped,
under hyped? What do you think? Six one four eight two one
nine eighty six that's eight two oneWTVN mindy. We were debating how neat

(03:23):
this would be or not when wewere in the studio last weekend. When
we were off air, we weretalking more about it. Did you see
it? And what did you think? So I changed my mind because I
at first on last Sunday a weekago, I was like, I can't
believe you're closing schools for this.Use it as a learning opportunity, because

(03:46):
I was thinking it was just goingto be a couple minutes, it'll go
dark a little bit and let it. Let it be a teaching moment.
But I changed my mind. Ithink it was the right call because it
was so cool to see it wasso much better than what I thought it
would be. I was wrong, and I admit it. Where did you
go see it? Like? Whatpart of town? Were you? In?
My backyard? They had like awatch eclipse party in the field right

(04:10):
behind my house. Okay, I'mlike, well, if everybody's gathering there,
I might as well just stay inmy own backyard. We had a
perfect view of it. But Ithink the thing that I noticed the most.
I don't know how you feel thetemperature, the temperature dropping first,
you know, you notice that makessense, the sun's getting covered up.
But I thought it was a lotcooler than what I anticipated. What about

(04:30):
you? What's your voice thinking? Is there at that fun imaginable age?
Yeah, So we drove up toPowell to Akia's house because she was in
totality and so it I couldn't believethe traffic. I will tell you that
I saw going into Dublin as Iwas driving two seventy to three fifteen,
and then when I got off threefifteen to go Norse, it took me

(04:51):
twenty minutes to get up to herhouse, which usually takes me like five
to seven. I could not believetotalality. Mindy to your point the drop
of the temperature which started before then. But then I don't think I realized
that you could look at it.I must not have been paying attention to
that part when it's in totality, that you could stare directly at it.

(05:14):
So when the people that I waswith said that I was like, no,
you can't. And I looked itup and I was like, oh
my gosh, yes you can't.And Mindy, it was incredible. I've
never seen anything like that in totality, and we probably never will now.
Several of my friends I have peoplewho live in the Cleveland area, and
I guess it was really cool there. I mean, it got exceptionally dark.

(05:36):
It didn't get all that dark.In Westillo, where I live.
It was still dark like you thoughtit was evening. But then to see
it all come back again, youknow, you see the sun come out.
It was awesome. I'm so glad, and my husband, who's a
teacher, I'm glad it was homewith me. I'm glad that we got
this pirit together. The person whothought I can't believe they're closing schools for

(05:56):
this admits that I was wrong.I think it was good to have,
yeah, to watch it with familiesand stuff like that. And you can't
still use it as a teaching moment, you know, you absolutely can,
And I think it would have beenhard to try to get all now that
I've seen it, right, howtough would it be to get like twenty
eight students to make sure they're onlyusing their glasses until that minute thirty or

(06:18):
whatever it was. To see itlike that would have been a nightmare if
you were a teacher. And thedarkness we didn't have Cleveland darkness and Powell,
but it got dark and it wasmindy. It was this silvery platinum
ethereal light that was barely coming throughthe darkness. With what we were looking
at when it was in totality,it was it was almost eerie, like

(06:42):
I've never seen anything like that. And so to experience that collectively, yeah,
I get it now too. Youknow that I was more pro like,
Okay, people aren't gonna people aregonna have top trough time with the
traffic and you know, maybe thebuses, but everybody would want to be
outside for that collective experience and yourpull. You did a pull on Twitter
which I saw on Twitter, andit won out. Do you think schools

(07:04):
should be canceled today because of theeclipse? You had about one hundred and
sixty two votes and sixty percent ofthem said yes, we think. You
know, it didn't foot out thatway. It started out more people were
saying no, but then a kindof flip flop kind of like I did.
But you know what, if youlook at me and you and you
and me were different. You playthings a little safer. You're a little

(07:25):
more like, do the right thing, and I'm a little like suck it
up, go in school and watchthe eclipse. But anyway, I could
admit when I was wrong, itwas a cool thing, and I'm glad,
I'm glad we got to see it. Yeah, I think we got
two out. Baby. We needone round of the Buckeyes win this darn
game. Oh and we need itso hopefully, and then a Big Ten

(07:46):
tournament right now. So we needthis win. So wait, say that
again? Would this help you ingetting into the Big tim tournament? Is
that what you just said? Yes? Yes, because we're not doing real
well in the Big Ten in theconference standings and every makes tournament except for
the bottom two teams. But whatkind of near there right now? So
where's the deal? We have twohome series, three home series coming up,

(08:09):
and I was so impressed with thisstadium Saturday and Sunday it was jam
packed full of Badger fans. Weneed to do that this week o.
Hio States Softball plays Tuesday, Wednesdayand this weekend. And you definitely have
the home field advantage when you havethe entire stadium rooting for you. We
need to pack Buckeye Field this week. Penn State's coming to town, Maryland's
coming to town, Pitt's coming totown. So I'm looking right now,

(08:31):
mikaylab there is a sea of littlesoftball girls all lining up to get ready
to get these autographs. It's soneat to see. I love it.
And then did can we have areally cool double play? Not that long
ago? It looks like like anhour ago. Yeah, it was one
of the best. You stopped thisball, went to her knees at such
a base and then threw the girlout about it, who is running the

(08:54):
first from her knees. You know, she never ceases to amaze amaze me
with her with her shortstop skills. She didn't hit real well today. She's
hit real well all weekend, buttoday she kind of battled to even get
a hit. So, but that'sokay. When you do that, other
people pick each other up. That'swhy you're that's not an individual that is
absolutely right, It is collective.Well we speaking of collective, we've got

(09:18):
like the theater scene and more unlockcollectively for the rest of this show.
We're going to have Kapa in herein a few minutes and talk about a
lot of great stuff coming up.They have Broadway across America, mindy,
but they also have so much morethey do. And I cannot wait for
you to meet Jim. You willlove this guy. He's got a great
personality. You know when you alwaystalk about if you do a job that

(09:41):
has your passion, you do whatyou love, you love what you do,
you really don't work today in yourlife, and I think you're going
to see that with Jim. Oneother thing I wanted to say about this.
You know, we've been big advocatesof women's sports and girls sports,
the growth and popularity. Yeah, you know what I learned here while I'm
here in Madison, wis content becausewe were driving around we see it everything.
But I'm like, you know what, rather every we'll see the baseball

(10:01):
field. So I asked a coupleof people here. They're like, we
don't even have baseball. They havesoftball at Madison, Wisconsin, home with
the Badgers, and they don't havebaseball. Really, Yeah, so there
you go, and we just won. Oh thank you for I'm learning about
it. Live on the air atsix ten WTVN right now in Columbus,
Ohio. That's just six th game, nine to five. Congratulations to the

(10:24):
Lady buck Eyes there. Oh mygosh, that's exciting. Okay, well,
head into theater next Mindia will talkto you more in a second.
This is what matters on six tenWTVN.
