Speaker 1 (00:01):
When is the last time you guys watching on Facebook
to the What Matters show or listening on the airwaves
of six ten and w TV in what is the
last time you've been to Kosai?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
You can answer this question to yourself and then you're
gonna want to call in for two great giveaways we
are going to give here in just a few minutes.
And that is a song from a Pixar movie. That's
why Chris played it because Pixar is there right now
and Josh Starver with Kosai is on the phone with us. Josh,
thank you so much for joining us this afternoon.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
I see that you're there, Josh.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Are hear me?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
We got to get those working out right. You can't
get the kick sounds. You think there's still ghosts and
goblins in the phone.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Pixar might be in the phone system at this point, Josh,
Pixar is such a favorite for folks, and I know
you guys have some interesting things coming that we're going
to talk about here in a few minutes.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
But how are you? How have you been?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Fantastic? Always a pleasure to be with you, guys. It's
just another fantastic weekend that we had here where the
Buckeyes when fantastic weather and Cosi's doing fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Boy, you nailed it right there. Weather has been awesome. Yes,
it's turning a little cooler right now, but that makes
it even a better time to go indoors inside Cosi
set the stage for us for Pixar. What's it like
when you walk into Kosai right now?
Speaker 3 (01:27):
No, we've got you. We're going to surround you with
everything animation and Pixar from your favorite films, all the
way from the original Bugs Life in nineteen ninety eight
to the more recent films like Inside Out to and
Elo amazing animation and Pixar Studios amazing creations from them
that you're to see all over our building and most
importantly in that exhibit that's really special for us.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Does the exhibit run through the Thanksgiving holiday, Josh, so
people can enjoy it when the kids are off school too.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
That's right now is a great time to come, but
also those holidays that we've got coming up. It's going
to go all the way actually till Memorial Day, so
we've got it for quite some time. But don't sit
back and relax, because it's always a great time when
your families are in for the holidays, it might be
a great time to jump out of the out of
the house if you got a little bit of cabin fever,
or maybe those in laws you might need a little
bit of a break from them and take them to
(02:15):
something exciting, or.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Maybe you need a break from your kids or the kids.
You want to give them a little treat and bring
them somewhere. You know, when we talk to you guys,
we talked Kosi once a month here on what Matters,
and we always mention that there is science all around us.
It's everywhere, it's in everything that we do, everywhere that
we go. What is the science behind creating these incredible movies?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah, you're right. We like to say that science is
for everywhere, for everyone, and everywhere everywhere you look, you'll
see it. So in these films there's amazing things like science, technology, engineering, arts,
and math and all those things go into making these films.
So whether it's the modeling where they start with the
actual idea or the animation itself, they're adding up those
(02:58):
different frames, form after frame to create seconds. It's not
minutes and hours of long video for your enjoyment. So
all of that takes science and the creators behind it
are quite amazing.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Such technology involved in the making of all that. It
should make kids think about the possibilities when it comes
to education. You know, we're heading into the holidays right
now and you guys are about to again show off
a pretty cool thing. I'm excited. I haven't even told
Mindy this because we're I'm involved in this at work.
We're going to have a tree at Season of Celebrations,
(03:30):
and that exhibit is going up really really soon. Do
you want to tell people who aren't familiar with it
what Season of Celebrations is.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Season Celebration is an opportunity for us to highlight different
cultures and communities throughout here in Central Ohio. And so
whether it's a corporation coming in to decorate theme associated
with their business or a community group coming in to
showcase their different cultural groups and whatnot, it's all about
the decoration of the trees inside of Coside. So we're
going to have over fifty different trees deated throughout the building.
(04:01):
You'll see themes, treats to stuff like Pixar, and our
exhibitions themselves, but most importantly those community groups who come
in and really add that nice special flare and uniqueness
to it. We're going to have some new experiences this year.
I don't want to give it all away, but it's
going to be pretty exciting for us.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
How many years have you been doing that with the trees,
with the Christmas trees?
Speaker 3 (04:20):
You know, it's interesting. It's a fan favorite that we
brought back. If you remember at to eighty East Broad
Street in our old building, we had to have it
all the time, and we took a little bit of
a break from it when we moved to the new building.
I say new building, but we've been there twenty five
years and now we have brought it back. So for
the last three years, we have brought this family tradition back,
and we hope individuals embrace it and we see the
community groups continue to grow and we grow this festival
(04:43):
great experience for everybody.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Wait a minute, I like had a moment. I really did.
I can't believe the New Coast side because we always
consider it the new co site. Those of us who
grew up in the central Ohio area and went to
the old Cosai as kids, either with a Girl Scout group,
a boy Scout group, or school group. I can't believe
the kosa you're in now has been there for twenty
(05:05):
five years? How did that happen?
Speaker 3 (05:09):
You know, it's blue by You know, we have individuals
who don't actually remember it because they weren't even born
at that time. My own son who is now at
Ou as sophomore at Ou, he doesn't remember the old
one because he was born in two thousand and five.
All he knows is the new Kosai and he loves
it even still to this day. And so it's amazing
how quickly time flies, but the memory still remain and
(05:30):
those traditions are things that we weren't embrace and really
highlight for individuals. So we brought this important one back.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I love that you brought it back. And then something
else families can do. It opens up November twenty second,
runs through January fourth, so great thing to stop by
and see while you're there with your family over the holidays.
Kosai after Dark has to be coming up fairly soon.
What do you guys do it in the month November?
Speaker 3 (05:53):
That's right, We're going to be doing mythology this month
and so it's the second Thursday of every month typically
for us, So it's coming up very very soon. You mentioned,
you know, getting away from those kids. This is an
opportunity for those adults to come over and act like kids.
It's just nice that we have a little bit better
snacks and uh seen cocktails for those older, older kids.
(06:13):
If you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Oh, I know what you mean. I know very well
what you mean. That's my favorite part of Cosai after Dark.
So we're going to give away tickets to that Kosai
after Dark also the family four packs, so if family
can go and check out Pixar and everything else that
Kosai has to offer. So we're going to give up
the phone number. Call us up, just like we did before. Mikayla,
just tell us your favorite Pixar movie, what do you think?
(06:35):
And that's great we can they can and then they
can choose if they want to win the daily four
pack or or the adult deal. Kosai after Dark c
AD as we call it for short.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
So six one four eight two one nine eight eight
six six one four eight two one at wtvn.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
AS we wait for those phone calls, so start calling.
We'll take the first couple of people who call. We
want to mention because sometimes it's hard to toot your
own Horn. So it's kind of a little bit of
a blessing that Doctor B isn't here. We love talking
to him every single month. But Doctor B is a
finalist for Doctor B in three for these Anthem Awards.
Can you talk a little bit about what this means.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
You know, this is an amazing opportunity for us to
highlight stand again science no matter who you are and
where you are, and so we'd like to have these
opportunities offer online opportunities for your engagements. And so Doctor
B and three is takes that tough concept and breaks
it down into three minutes. And I find that amazing
that he can do that and really make it digestible.
(07:36):
I mean I find it hard to sometimes, you know,
popcorn in three minutes, but he can make amazing things
happen for you and make you understand them and really
make it enjoyable. And so Doctor B and three is
a great opportunity for us to engage people all over
this great nation, all over the world, and we're being
recognized for that among the many other awards that we've
wont over the last few years.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah, Anthem Awards and Shorty Awards, and I feel like
I've heard of the Shorty Awards, but I can't remember why.
Off the top of my head. Are those for like
digital shorts or something along those lines.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
That's correct, So those digital shirts that you'll see online,
and we're in that education and engagement opportunity. So we
encourage individuals to vote as many times as they can,
one vote per day, and so hopefully we can win
this award.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Awesome, it looks like we have a phone call coming in. Suzanne.
You are our first caller. We're going to take another
one too at six one four eight two one nine
eight eight six. Susanne, all you have to do is
let us know your favorite Pixar movie, and you will
have your choice to go see that or to go
to Kosai after dark and have a drink or two.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
I like the movie called Up.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Oh, it's such a sweet movie.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
It's so sweet, sweet, so colorful. I like the dog
and Up Yeah. Yeah is that Pixar? I didn't read it. Pixar. Well,
you win till you get to choose.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yeah, which do you want to go to Kosai after dark?
Or you want VIP tickets that include Pixar?
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Oh? Could I take my grand's kids if I went
to the VIP ticket.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
It's a four pack.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yeah, I'd love that.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
You're not going to get your drink on, you'd rather
do the nice, family friendly things. I like it. You
got it?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah, So leave your name in number with our producers.
Who's anna hang on the line, and we will make
sure you get to go see Pixar at Kosai. We've
got Karen on the line. So, Karen, we have a
four pack of Kosai after Dark tickets to Mythology on
the line. Now, you just have to tell us which
(09:45):
of the Pixar movies is your favorites.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Well, I think it's Monsters, Ain't Pixar because I really
like that one.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
It is? I know, isn't it Josh? I know, I'm
pretty sure.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yes it is Sully.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
The Pixar has done so much so sometimes we're like, oh,
well we know Toy Story and we know these others,
but yeah, I haven't seen in Karen. So that's your
favorite Monsters inc And have you had a chance before
to go to Kosai after Dark? Have you ever done it?
Speaker 4 (10:15):
No? Huh?
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Actually it's Terry t E R R y Terry.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Oh Carrie, did I have now?
Speaker 4 (10:22):

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Good?
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Deal, Sorr, We're nope, sorry, we're just reading what we're told.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
So yeah, well, actually a boy I used to baby
set the last I knew he works for Pixar.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Now, oh how fun.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
That's amazed, I know.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
So you get to go get your drink on and
everything else that comes with after Dark. It's you know what,
it's just a cool feeling to be inside Kosai when
it's really closed down to the rest of the world.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Right, that would be fun. Yeah, well you get to
I remember that Cosai won. It was like kind of
in the old Dungeon castle, kind of surrounding you and
me both just.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Twenty five years ago when they moved.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
It was fun.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Yeah, yeah, fun.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Well, Carrie, stay on the line, give information to our producer.
Have a great time at Cosi after Dark.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Okay, thank you, Josh.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
We made people happy when we give away this stuff
and I and we expose all different kinds of people.
It is what matters.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
And you know what I love.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
I love it, Josh.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
You know what I love the most is a lot
of our winners have not been to co site in years.
So because of the show and getting them tickets, they
get to go re experience what they did as kids.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, we love that and we you know, like we say,
it's all for all ages. You know, no matter if
you're you're an adult who are a kid at heart,
you know, it's a great opportunity for you. And we
have opportunities for individuals to engage with us. And so
whether it's Cose after Dark or the Pixar films and
the animations, I think everybody's gonna love it. And we're
super excited about this opportunity that'll run through Memorial.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Day from the womb to the tomb, as Doctor B
likes to say, so, Josh, thank you so much for
taking time out this afternoon to chat with us.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Always a pleasure. Thank you very much, Bye, Josh.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
All right, coming up next, everybody, this is your opportunity.
If you know somebody who's running for oh school board
or city council or trustee position, get a hold of
them right now, Tell them to call up the show
and they get to just tell everybody why they're running
and why people should vote for them.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Give them this number six one four eight two one
nine eight eight six. That's six one four eight two
one nine eight eighty six. They're going to need it.
And then we're going to take calls for the next
little under forty five minutes your candidate.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
From now to the rest of the show. We know
it's important. And also if you have a school levy
that's in your area and you are for it or
if you're against it, listen, we're not picking signs at
all on this show. We are just giving you an
opportunity to have the microphone and let your voice be
heard because voting day election day is Tuesday, it.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Is, and your vote always matters. So again six one four, eight,
two one nine eight, eights six, we'll start getting to
your calls after the break. This is what matters on
six' TEN. Wtvn
