you so much again for being here with us today.

So get those dialing fingers ready. We're going to tell

(00:42):
WTVN to win some pretty incredible COSI.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Packages as we head into the new year.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
But before we do that, we got to hear from
the Man, the myth, the legend himself, doctor Frederick Bertley,
who's going to bring us up to speed on everything
that is going on over there by the Sciota.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
We can't let them indo. You guys are the best.
How y'all doing today?

Speaker 1 (01:06):
We are great.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
I hope you had a fantastic holiday. Where were you
were you here? Were you somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I am currently in the beautiful island of Barbados, calling
to you from Chess across the street from the beach,
because it was a little too noisy at the beach.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
I mean, I loved it was a little too noisy
the beach.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
And I love that you were able to spend the
holiday with your family.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Absolutely, it was really nice to go. My wife and
my brother, his wife, his kids, and then my best
friends from childhood all came down. So we were all
in Barbados having a kid time. And I know the
weather has been pretty crappy in the merthyast. So happy
to be here, but I'll be back shortly.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Back shortly, just in time for the wind and the
cold temperatures.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
I'm sure too.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah, it's not great. It's sixty out here today, doctor B.
But it's rainy and gray.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Well it's okay. Kosai is indoors, so it's an awesome
place for people to go to when it's rainy, gray
and cold.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
So you have so much going on through the holiday,
you know.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I've gotten involved in a few different ways with your
team and the other work that I do. Season of
Celebrations is happening right now. And I can't think of
a better way to experience the holiday with your family
here in Central Ohio.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, I see. The celebrations is one of these things
we did to really engage the community to showcase their
seasonal spirit. And so anybody can take a Christmas tree
and decorate a Christmas tree with their family name or
their corporate name, have people come in team members and
decorate it, and we put it on display as part
of the amazing exhibits we have along with other stuff

(02:47):
like wildcrafts and of course pisar. But it's just a
really great way to get the local community to be
engaged at.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Cosie and with it, you have a ton of other
stuff that's coming up to and I know over the
course of the next few weeks, Kat and I were
just looking at the list.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Yeah, we are looking at this list. You have some
great stuff on here. Can you tell us a little
bit more about the Noon Year's Eve that coasid.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
What's going on with that?

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Kat, I totally can. So. You know, in New Year's Eve,
you think about the ball dropping from New York City
Times Square. That's an adult thing at midnight. This you
got little ones, you know, one to like ten one
to twelve. You do not want to be staying up
late at night. So we have this thing. We've done
it for several years and it's really popular. It's called

(03:33):
Noon Year's Eve at Coatsi. It is December thirty first.
It is the last end of the year. But from
ten am to twelve to to noon we have all
kinds of fun activities for the whole family. But then
at noon we have our better Ryan SeaQuest, Glass Crystals,
Rocky Ball drop event inside Coastside. We have streamers and

(03:54):
all kinds of liquid nis. It's a really a fun
time and the kids go bananas.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Oh that sounds like a blast.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
It is. Our kids are older, but you Kat spent
years with her kids going to Kosai doctor but she
was just telling us about it on air.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Yeah, when my kids were little, we did everything Kosai.
I loved it. We had we had every membership, everything
that you offered. I think we did well.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Listen, Kat, I love that. But I just want to
say to you and your audience, you don't need the
excuse of having kids to come to Kosai. We got
stuff for people of all ages, whether it's the Noonians
and New celebrations or Coast after Dark, which is a
fan favorite. But just know that Kosai has everything for people,
Like we like to say from the womb to the tombs.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
From got something for you from the Womb to the tomb.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
It is a classic Doctor B tagline for Kosai. Speaking
of Kosai after Dark, the twenty one and older experience,
you have a new one coming up, Science Rave on
January eighth, and we're.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Going to talk about it here. But first I want
to open the phone lines.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
We're going to give away a four pack of tickets
to the Kosai after Dark Science Rave again January eighth,
six one four eight two one nine eight eighty six
again now is six one four eight two one at WTVN.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
We will take the third caller on that.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
But what is the Science Rave all about at the
beginning of January for your CD?

Speaker 3 (05:19):
So, first of all, this is gonna be a tough
one because the last one we had in December was
all about kind of the Speak Easy era, the Roaring
nineteen twenties, and people came out in their flapper dresses.
We had cars on showcase, we had cocktails, all kinds
of speak Easy drinks. It was packed that there were
two thousand people there. And now the science of raves

(05:42):
is literally the science of rave parties. And I was
a little older, but I didn't party. Take it a
few raves night day. So it is really an incredible
fun time, big party, atmosphere, safe fun and that coach
on January eighth, twenty one plus you will not be disappointed.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
So science of the raves because a rave, I mean,
I've not had an experience too many raves, doctor B.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
I've seen them and I think.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Actually, bizarrely, the pope just put on a rave at
like a church somewhere in Europe. I'm not making this up,
Like the priest was the DJ, I swear. So are
you are we learning about like the components of it
or like, how would you explain that part, doctor B.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
First of all, I was born a Catholic and it
took a pope from Chicago to deliver a raves new
papas amen all that out. Yes, well he was calling up.
But yeah, it's really about It's really about the size
of what makes partying fun, everything from the neuro biological
stuff in your brain to how things happen. So why
you get so excited when their bright legs when there's

(06:47):
people dancing, and you're motivated to dance. It's really just
kind of let's dig into the psychology of why raves
are so fun for all kinds of people.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
All right, six one four, eight, two one nine eighty
six six one four eight two to one WTV and
third wins a four pack of tickets to the Science
of Rave.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
So don can I say something else? Yeah, yeah, go ahead, Kat,
thank you again for being a member for all those years.
I love that we have this incredible membership mania. We
never we did this once kind of coming out of
the pandemic. Otherwise we've never done this in our sixty
one years of life. You buy one membership, you get

(07:26):
a second membership for free. And that is regardless of
the level of membership, whether it's a regular membership or
our Platinum package. This goes just tell January thirty first though,
so you have one more month to get it. But
it's unbelievable. Yes, two years for once. I know, Kat,
your kids have aged out. You're not buying memberships, but
if you didn't want a gift one, by the way,

(07:47):
if you give them you can also get a second
one for free too.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
That's fantastic. Well, tell us a little bit more about
the memberships. What is the Platinum membership. I like to
get all the good stuff, So if I were going
to tell that.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
I would probably buy a plan, thank you.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
So, so one of the things is, you know, there's
a garage next to Coast I and we you know,
we we do all the best we can do about
the garage, but it's not owned by us. It's actually
owned by the city. So for instance, the Platinum membership
gets you Parky for free, which is something that everybody
worries about. Plus, if your gift member, you can gift
sorry tickets in the partnership. I think you have like
like four to six tickets summer pass of the year

(08:23):
that you can give to your friends or family members.
It's just really an elevated membership that you know, you
want to be that kind of oat society type of that.
Well that's the Platum membership. But the Bible One Get
one Free is for all levels from the standard membership
all the way up through like four or five different levels.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Awesome, Okay, so through January thirty first, so that's the
deadline to capitalize on getting this buy one, get the
next year free that's correct.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
And I got to tell you I've met people traveling
in different places, like can you talk to me? I
just bought a membership and I got assess the one
is that real? Like, yes, it's real, real, it is
absolutely Please don't come to me for every person. Oh
I just missed it. Can I get it? Kill me
a phone and buy that membership and get a second
one for Preevie four January thirty First Jennifer Renelle.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
She's not on the phone with us anymore, but congratulations, Jennifer.
You are the third caller and the winner of the
four packs, so we'll get you linked up with Doctor
B's fabulous team at COSI. We have another giveaway before
Doctor B goes as well. This giveaway is a four pack.
It's a VIP basically ticket packed. You'll get into the
Science behind Pixar, which is at COSI right now. Again,

(09:36):
a four pack of tickets to the Science behind Pixar.
Sixty one four eight two one nine eighty eight six
six one four eight two one WTVN Doctor B.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
We've talked a little bit about this exhibit.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
If you want to mention a few things about it,
that would be great and talk about your holiday hours
because getting there to experience this is super easy.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah, first of all, tell you about the size of Pixar.
We all have our favorite pick Star movies, from you know,
Toy Story to Finding Nemo to Up you name it
and by the way, Cosides, We've found Nemo, so come
check it out. What really what's cool about things? Is
it really Showkay? What do you think about dating myself?

(10:17):
But cartoons will developed, you know, you do these sketches
like you flip through a little notepad and they move,
and that's the animation, these like twenty first century animations.
The science to pic Star it's all science. It's physics,
It's it's incredible physics behind lighting, behind movement. Also all
the engineering and of course computer science. So kids can

(10:37):
learn about their favorite characters and favorite movies, but understand
that it's science and engineering that makes it come to life.
And that's why it's so exciting for people of all ages.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
It is and you.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Know, I've seen it, I've been through it. It's it's incredible.
Did season of celebrations, it's just it's a wonderful time
of year, any time of year to be at Coside,
but especially the holidays. It's great with what they have
going on right now, and you guys are open during
the holiday for families who have kids on winter break.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
