Speaker 1 (00:03):
I believe it some Pixar, Yes, one of the many,
one of the many. My kids love some Pixar love it. Yeah, no,
I mean it would be so creative, but it wasn't
around when we were kids. They didn't at the studio yet.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Was Cars Pixar, Yes, because I swear you watched that
movie Cars. It has some of the most brilliant and
beautiful scenery, and it's a cartoon.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
You know, you're amazing.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
It's wild with and there's a reason. You'll find out
there is a reason we were talking about Pixar. Chad Thompson,
chief operating officer with Kosai, is in with us and
there is something coming. Stick around at the end of
the segment and you'll learn more about what's going on
with Pixar. Chad, good to see you. You had not visited
us at our studios here, so great to have you in.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
It's wonderful to see you both. It's great and especially
on this beautiful weekend, so.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Thank you beautiful weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Chad walks in here right away, I'm like, oh, you
look so tan, and You're like, I've been in Dublin.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
I live on the soccer field. If I'm not at Kosai.
I'm living on a soccer field anywhere.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
And now this weekend, I would think that Labor Day
weekend is a big weekend for you guys over at I.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
It is for a variety of reasons.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
One, I mean, it's just holidays, so we got tourism
and everybody's you know, the kids went back to school,
so you have a little bit of a lull as
they kind of get back into it. But then family's
friends come in, tourists are in town.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Obviously we had a huge football game in town yesterday,
so got to welcome some folks from Austin into Kosai,
which was just wonderful.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
But yeah, it's a great time.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
And the other thing is after tomorrow we close down
for a couple of weeks to kind of refresh the
entire building after an incredibly busy eleven and a half months.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I always wonder is Kosai busier in school or out
of school, because you have a lot of school groups
doing tours and field trips, but then in the summer
parents need something to do.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Well, the good thing is like it's pretty busy all
the time, which is just a wonderful thing. And that's
because of the great exhibits that we already have and
so many different things that we do. But yeah, we'll
see you know, like I said, early September is the
right time for us to close and kind of do
this refresh and then what you guys were kind of
hinting towards when we were talking about Pixar, we get
(02:16):
ready for the next exhibit. They usually run during the summertime,
you know, from spring break until the end of the summer,
and we get ready for the fall, and so it's
a perfect time for it. But you know, a lot
of the kids come through the school trips later in
the school year, so it's almost like a reward to
get to come there, you know, after a great school year.
So we'll really really ramp up kind of later in
the school season once the kids are really getting kind
(02:39):
of ready for summer.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
And I cannot believe Unofficial Galaxies closes after tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
After tomorrow, so Unofficial has been there. It's the largest
Star Wars exhibit fan based exhibit in the world, really,
and we've been lucky to have it. We've had it
for four months and it's been a great run. If
you have not seen it, you're a Star Wars fan,
your kids are fans, I highly recommend getting out there.
This is something you know where we put together in
(03:07):
partnership with the exhibit purveyor. You know, we actually did
a lot of the work. So we have this incredible
exhibits team at Kosai who's taking care of the building
each and every day, always making sure that we're bringing
new things on well. With this exhibit, we were allowed
to flex their muscles and a lot of them love
Star Wars and so there's many things that you've seen
in there that you could not see anywhere else. We
have an X Wing Fighter, which you know that's like
(03:28):
Luke Skywalker's His mass is My.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Husband and I went to Kosie after dark for unofficial
galaxies and it's massive.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Its mass it is almost built to size. So we
had and it weighs Oh my gosh, they were gonna
kill me. I think it weighs four tons.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
It is.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
It is insane how big this thing is. And then
you know, we've got Darth Vader's ship in there too.
But you get to see original movie scripts. We recreate
a Java's layers. So if you really know Star Wars
over the years, the saga and everything that's happened, which
so many people do. Yeah, which also includes like Mandalorian
with Baby Yoda, and so there's something for everyone as
(04:06):
you roll through that, and you really do get to
appreciate the artistry of our exhibit team as well as
the people who have put this collection together over the
last decade.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
So get there tomorrow, Get there tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yes, you still have time, and you've got the day
off most of you for Labor Day, So go FoST
I love to see you. You will not be disappointed
when one thing leaves though another comes in, because that's
what co size all about.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
So on the tail end we'll be closed down for
a couple of weeks. We reopen, I believe September twenty fourth,
and we welcome Wild Crats. So this is a this
is a show that's been on for many years. These
two guys explorers. It's an incredible exhibit. So highly recommend.
If you say it to most young kids these days.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Absolutely know.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
So we say spell it wild Wild Crats k R
A T T S.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
And so it's these two guys, they're actual explorers, and
but they've created a cartoon based off of it, and
this exhibit brings a a couple of different kind of
adventures to Kosai, so it really focuses in on that
early childhood education. You'll remember a couple of years ago
we had Barbie and so it kind of hits on
that front. If we had the Pall patrol just recently,
(05:13):
so it really hits there as we head into the
fall season and get ready for our latest holiday celebration,
which is going to turn three this year, which is
kind of crazy to me, called Season of Celebrations. So
that's really where we bring the festivities of the fall season,
of the winter season into Kosai throughout the entire building.
It's just a wonderful way to spend time, especially when
it starts getting cold here in Columbus.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, you're doing something that's super popular in Chicago because
I've talked with doctor Burtley about it. These organizations were
hoping to do one this year at Commerce Design Trees.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Absolutely, and it was really cool. My team went to
see it last year.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
There's so much happening outside of Kosai to you. Guys
just won four Emmy Awards. I don't know if we
really talked that much about this yet.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I think before you dive into that, because that's so impressive.
Let's give the number out and get calls.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Oh yeah, we're we have given anyway.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, it gives people some time to call in.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
So let's do the four pack of general admission. First
to cos I six one four eight two one nine
eight eight six six one four eight two one WTVN.
What caller do you want to take?
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Let's just do the second one second.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Caller six one four eight two one nine eighty six
A four pack of general admission. Okay, Emmy Awards. So
you guys have really been cleaning up the last few
years with this. What is going on with that and
the stem ed you're doing through.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
That, it's a remarkable.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
So I've I just hit two years with Kosai, So
it's been an incredible And I grew up in Columbus
and so I went to the old win, brought my
kids to the newer one, and it's just a fascinating
thing to see what we do well beyond those four walls.
And so Emmy's are one of those things you would
never think would a science institution out of Columbus, Ohio
be winning a Wimmy and winning Emmys, excuse me, and
(06:49):
these are I think our thirteenth. And so Doctor B
has his own animated series called Doctor B and three.
We just launched the fourth season of that earlier this year.
So he won two more Emmys for that, which is
just remarkable. How many he's kind of stacked up there.
They're outside his office when you come down to Coast
how you can see a handful of those four of
his shows. And then we won two other ones. One
(07:11):
you guys will remember we had the Great Solar Eclipse
last year and our creative media team created a musical
for it, and so wrote it in he captured it.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
It was a full on to explain what is this
solar eclipse? How's this happen?
Speaker 4 (07:24):
And so worked with a number of studios inside the
City of kids groups who were our actors, so kind
of just sourced it all through Columbus and we won
an Emmy for that, which was just amazing. And then
the last one, we have a series called Science of
Sports where we've done things with the Blue Jackets with
the crew.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
And this one was focused on skateboarding and.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
So all the physics, all the things that you would
think about that go into being a great skateboarder.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
We won an award for that one.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Well, we always say on here with doctor B and
with you as well, Chad. Science is everywhere, even places
you don't realize is there. We have our first caller.
Let's go to Ronda. Ronda, all you have to do
is tell us your favorite Pixar movie. How's that?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
That sounds great? Hey Rnda, Hello, what's your favorite Pixar movie? Well, honestly,
I've never seen one. I was calling to win tickets
for my nephews because they've seen all of them. Well, yeah,
can you that counts and you have won the tickets.
You know you haven't seen cars. That's one that a
lot of people have seen. Our toy story.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Toy story is a big one to.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Part in them when my kids were little. But my
kids are in your thirties now, so yes, because it
was about thirty years ago, yeah, it definitely was. Well, congratulations,
you get the four pack for your nephews. Thank you
so much. Yees, stay on the line, Ronna.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Do us one favor when you're there, Take a picture
and send it to us on our Facebook page. Have
someone yeah we don't know what matters page. We'd love
to see you guys there. All right, thank you.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
You're welcome to stay on the line. Our producer will
get your information. We still have a four pack of
Coast after Dark tickets to give away. So, speaking of Pixar,
what is the Pixar connection, Chad? What is about title?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
We We just announced this.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
So there's this incredible exhibit called the Science behind Pixar.
As we were just talking about we were talking about
skateboarding and the science behind that. There's an incredible amount
of science, engineering, mathematics that goes into creating those incredible films.
And so we were just talking about thirty years ago.
That's exact time they're about. Pixar is about to re
release Toy Story, which came out thirty years ago, so
(09:27):
on September twelfth, you can go into theaters and rewatch it.
So the great thing about Pixar it spans generations, right,
They have adult humor in it. They do a lot
of great things for kids. But what this exhibit does
is break down how they create that movie into four
different stations, and so it's very hands on, it's very
co size, so you get to get in there and
understand how they create a character, how they make that
(09:47):
character move, all the different elements that go into these
wonderful movies, and they break it down for you and
you just kind of go through it. The other incredible
side of it is their life sized recreations. So we
all know Sully from Monsters, Inc. So he's going to
be in there buzz Lightyear. So you just get this
incredible walkthrough of what goes into these special movies. And
then we believe sometime next summer, Toy Story five's coming out.
(10:11):
So all of these wonderful things are happening with Pixar,
and so.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
We've got there's been four Toy Stories.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
They are yeah, but so it has the majority of
the movies that we know, Nemo and those types of cars,
they're all part of it. So I just welcome everyone.
I remember the first time I saw Toy Story in
a theater and just thought, what is this? It was
the first time any of us had ever seen a
film like that. You really get to get into this
and too many of your point about science as ever
(10:38):
for kids to understand, like this is a science job.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
This is a job in stem.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
To go create these incredible films. There's a ton of
art in it as well, but the volume of engineering,
the science that's in it to make these things a reality,
it's spectacular and in really good fashion. This breaks it
down in very simple terms and really hands on for
the kids to go out there and enjoy themselves.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
And it's just so impressive when you really figure out
how this all comes together. And as long as it
takes to field like this, you know, it's so impressive.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Clase I After Dark is on the ninth of October.
Is it connected to Pixar or no? Is it something
totally different?
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Not this one. This one's This one's apocalypse.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Is a little off of that toy story and Pixar
kind of film, but it's it's an apocalypse. So we
do surveying every year about what you know, this is
more geared. It's twenty one and over second Thursday of
every month, and we are always trying to figure out
something else.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
The last one just sold out.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
It was the Science of ice Cream and so our
city is blessed with great ice cream and so just
tons of people came in for that. It's a wonderful
evening for you get food, you get your beverages. But
this one is we're expecting people to get dressed up
like the end of Days and so.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
We just have.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
But it was one of those things where we reached
out and said what would you like to do, and
so we really try to make sure that we're hitting
on it and there will be science to that, make
sure that that comes to life and the kind of
the experiences you get as you're going around, but really
geared to just an incredible kind of time on a
Thursday night for people to have some fun.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
So we're up against the break. Call in and win
those tickets at six one four eight two one nine
eight eighty six six one four eight two one nine
eighty six and we can get the winner during our
commercial break.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
We can do that. Yeah, Chad, thank you. So the
time goes fast.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
It does, thank you, it really does.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
So yes, call us up guys at four Pack Takosa
after Dark Apocalypse on ten to nine. Have a great
rest of the weekend and enjoy the Labor Day weekend.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Thank you guys.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
This is what matters.
