Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's Mikaela here in the studio. Mindy is in the

(00:03):
car coming back from softball. Two w's one l But hey,
the Buckeyes keep rolling, Mindy.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, they won the series. It's hard to beat the
same team three times. So the goal is always to
win two out of the three. The big goal is
to win the first two, so you kind of can
relax for that third game. But that's not what happened.
We won the first game, lost the second game, but
then that makes that third game much more exciting than Kayla.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Oh absolutely, And so we've been entertaining some of our
old friends here in the studio while Middy's in the car.
And this is an old friend of Mindy's that I
just have happened to get to know a couple times
over the years. Ritchie very does I'm supposed to say it, right,
Mindy Verritto. I need to get my Italian going.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
You gotta go.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Mindy is just not the same without you in the studio.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
You know what, something tells me you'll make up for
all the energy that I'm not bringing today because you
are mister energy.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Well, I thank you, thank you. I will try my best.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
We have John Osbeck here too today, who is a
director and writer, and John we have you with the
deli guy. But there's a reason and we're going to
get to tell that story. But welcome to the studio.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Thank you. It's great to be here.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
So maybe you got a text and you've known this
has been going on from Richie not too long ago.
Why don't you set us up?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
You know, if it's one thing or another, if it's art,
designs a mural in his community, or trying to improve
the theater. In acting, Ritchie is so involved with where
he lives and where his deli is. So what was it,
Richie you wanted to try your hand at acting? It
was it just something that you always thought you wanted
to do.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, when I was younger, I did.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
I did a little bit of a drama class and
things like that in school, and then some theater in
the early two thousands. But then obviously working in the
Delhi and getting the Deli up and running took that
time away. And about four about four years ago, I
decided to get back involved and started taking acting classes.
And I believe, if my memory serves me correct, the
last time we were on the show, we spoke briefly

(02:05):
about it, and you put it out there in the
ether of the universe saying, you know, somebody needs to
cast Richie in a movie. And I guess, I guess
John must have felt that ether and heard it, because
you know, I got I auditioned for him. But we'll
get into that in a minute. But yeah, just started
trying to get into it. And in the past year

(02:25):
I got signed to an agency, I got cast in
a movie down to the Felt, that did a couple
of shorts with some other great directors and actors.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
So yeah, and I know what a competitive world the
acting business is. One of my really good friends is
Otis Winston, and he's really made his name in the
Hollywood is too, as far as becoming an extra and
then getting speaking roles, and he's made an entire career
off of getting those little roles, turning him into something bigger.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
John sitting here nodding his head, You know, Otis John, Yeah?
Is the world is the film world in Columbus, are
coming out of Columbus fairly small, like do you know
each other?

Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yeah, yeah, it is. It is fairly small. And I
like to say it's it's tight knit.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
And the thing that's amazing about Columbus is the film
community because it's so supportive of each other. And you know,
there was another film that came out of Columbus a
few years back called Poser. It was done by this
group called Loose Films here in Columbus that went on
to Tribeca and then it got a distribution deal. And
everybody's been so supportive of everybody else doing something.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
I think that's one of the.

Speaker 6 (03:35):
Unique things about this community that's different than some other ones,
is we are supportive. We're all about trying to help.
Like a rising tide raises all ships.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, So you know what, don don't you think Ohio
in general, there's been some big movies filmed here as well.
If you go back to the eighties, you look at Teachers,
you look at Hunt Redemption because some of Rainman was
filmed in the Cincinnati area. Whyoha, Why have them in
so many movies made or filmed parts of them anyway
in our state?

Speaker 6 (04:05):
Well that is a Varys student observation. And actually the
funny little tie in is I was I think I
was twelve or thirteen. Teachers was the first on camera
roll that I was an ex ray in I was
somebody I was a student, like walking around in the background.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Wait a minute, John, I have to ask you something.
How old are you? Because I was in high school
and so many of my high school buddies became extras
in teachers as well, how old are you? I?

Speaker 6 (04:31):
Oh, man, you're gonna make me say it on here,
I'm fifty three.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Hey, I'm fifty seven, So don't worry about it. You're
younger than me. But I figured you were in your fifties,
because yeah, that was a bad thing when we were
in high school. That movie Teachers was going to get
filmed here sold Coast Side.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, Yeah, it was.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
It was amazing.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
It was incredible.

Speaker 6 (04:51):
Everybody was like amazed that a big film like that
with Nick Nolty and Ralph Bonchio, Like it was incredible.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
And then you know, Traffic also filmed here.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
And to answer your.

Speaker 6 (04:59):
Question and about like why Ohio, there's there's there's more
filmmakers and actors from Ohio than you'd know. Martin Sheen,
Amelia Stevez, They're from Ohio. The Russo brothers who are
behind you know, so many of the big Marvel movies
they're from Cleveland since nat.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Ali Barry from Ohio.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Yes, yes, Ally Barry, and uh so many, so many
people are from Ohio.

Speaker 6 (05:24):
And now we have a really good tax credit that's
getting even better, so it's making it attractive for productions
to come here. And I think just the whole uh,
just the whole climate of film production is shifting now
and it's moving away from the coasts, and you know,
producers and studios are recognizing that shooting outside of these

(05:45):
big cities LA New York, Chicago, to do something in
the Midwest, to do something in Ohio, to do something
specifically in Columbus. It also makes really good fiscal sense
because of the cost of production being lower. So there's
a lot of great things that are working towards making
it even better to draw in other productions and also
to cultivate productions that are starting here in Columbus specifically.

(06:06):
And then I'm letting the world see that, Yay, we
can make film.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Too, Richie. I have a feeling that all of us
in this conversation are gen x or is it fair
to say that are you gen x?

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yep? I am forty eight years old, okay, hey forty nine?

Speaker 1 (06:18):
In October, Hey forty nine in October. So Mindy Night,
we're talking earlier. You know, the gen X, this generation
is an interesting generation, but we do believe that life
is all about taking risks, and you kind of have
done that with what you're doing right now. You have
this successful Delhi Richie's New York Corner Delhi in Circleville
and people know you across the area. What made you
decide to take this leap? What was so important about it?

Speaker 5 (06:43):
It's just something that I've always wanted to do, and
I felt that I would be unhappy with myself if
I didn't take the opportunity and the time to dedicate
part of my life to doing it. I dedicated my
life to doing the Delhi and it's time to also
now do something else that I love as well.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
I love that. Man.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
You guys have a big event coming up at the
end of the month. That's really the whole reason why
you guys are in studio today. All about promotion, right, Yes,
tell everybody what's going on and invite everybody there.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
John, I'm gonna let you take it away.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
Yeah, we're incredibly excited.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
So we're honored and thrilled that on April thirtieth, Wednesday,
April thirtieth. We are the opening event film, the only
film showing that night for the Cinema Columbus Film Festival, and.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
It's sold out, by the way, and so.

Speaker 6 (07:33):
We're playing at the Southern Theater and eight hundred and
fifty seat theater were sold out. There might be some
tickets that might be coming up and being available, but
we also have a great opportunity. We're doing a giveaway
on Instagram for two tickets for the night to the
sold out event. But the way the Columbus has shown

(07:53):
up in the community has shown up to support this
film all along the way and continuing through with this
opening night at the Cinema Columbus Film Festival, We're just
so thrilled.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
But not to mention that the tickets are being given away.
All you have to do is go on go on
to down to the Felt the Movies Instagram page or
Facebook page, follow and like for your chance to win
two free tickets to the sold out event.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Can't get a better promotion than.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
That, You know what, Mikayla, you should have been able
to give a cup away, give away a couple of
tickets on the show today.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
We didn't even think of we're sending we're sending into
socials though, right say it again.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
Richie followed down to the Felt the Movie on Instagram
or Facebook like, follow and share the post about the
giveaway the two tickets for your chance to win two
free tickets to the sold out event.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Okay, that's good. I have to ask John something.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, go ahead, hey John, Yeah, fire away.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
How was Richie to work with? Was he okay to
work with?

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Total diva? Total de.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Brought it, he brought his entourage.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
You know, he was, No, he was. He was fantastic.
It's funny, you know. Richie talked about it a little bit.
So one of the co writers and my my longtime
friend and and and cohort in in film crime, Ralph
Scott said, there's this guy in my acting class and
we had this role that we were we were a
little I was a little finding the right person for it.

(09:19):
I didn't know if I was going to find somebody
here in Columbus or Central Ohio. And Ralph's like, I
got the guy, I got the guy for you. So
Richie came in and he did the audition and it
was it was just it was meant to be and
it like like you must have done mindy. You put
it out in the universe and the universe.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Brought it back and that is awesome. And give us
a line from it's one of your lines.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
I don't know if I could do anything from the
movie at this moment in time, but I will.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Tell you what the movie is about.

Speaker 7 (09:46):
But I will tell you that, yeah, he's about I
actually auditioned before I auditioned and told John I know,
you know, if he wanted his lighting crew and his
makeup and stuff to show up on this set because
I heard he was making a movie here in Columbus
that he had to have an envelope and if he
could fold it, it wasn't enough.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
This is what he says to me. Outside of the audition.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
I was outside talking with Ralph and Richie comes up
and I'm like, who is this guy?

Speaker 4 (10:10):
And then I was like, oh, that's the guy who
should be the guy.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Uh okay.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Down to the fact that what is down.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
To the felt about that is sold out.

Speaker 6 (10:18):
It's a thriller comedy and it's about a charming underdog
gambler Paul Murphy, who gets in deeper than he's ever
been in his life. And he happens to have a
chance meeting with a devout but dangerous hit man and
they make a deal where the hitman is going to
kill him in two weeks so that his mom can

(10:40):
collect on the insurance money. And then Paul starts winning
and he meets a woman and things start turning around.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
He wants to call it off, but.

Speaker 6 (10:49):
This devout, maybe slightly psychopathic hitman won't let it go.
They've made a deal, and then and then the thrills
in the comedy ensues and it's just a fun wild ride.
We have amazing, amazing actors. Michael Stall David plays Paul Murphy.
Michael Weston plays David Solomon, the hit man.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Scottie tom Oh I thought been the hit.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Man.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
I thought that's gotta be Richie.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Ritchie has a great role. There's it's just a beautiful
scene that Richie is in with Michael Weston.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
Uh, you know, we don't want to give any spoilers
away before people see it, but he he's just perfect.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
It was so fun.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
That was actually our very last night of shooting. Uh,
and we were fighting rain, We were fighting hours and
we were shooting going into the overnight and uh. But
it was a super fun scene. There was there was
some stunts that were involved that night, and and Richie
was just aces and uh. Ever, from the time THEYD
he auditioned and came to the callback uh to to

(11:45):
working on set and seeing him and Michael Weston go
back and forth and work through this scene, it was
just it was incredible. And and really Richie is one
of the probably best examples of how Columbus showed up
because we had these three leads who came in from
New York in la uh and what they said later
on was they were so impressed with not only the
cast but the crew everybody that it was some of

(12:07):
the best independent film experience they've ever had on a set.
And that is a testament to people like Richie, who
showed up. He was prepared, he nailed it, he was there.
They did this scene beautifully. I just I can't say
enough about it.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
And now amazing.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
And now Richie's a two hat guy. Bring over the canoli.
Get him on camera because you are this actor now
and we're working actor, but you're also still wearing the
other hat. Beautiful canoli from the Deli put it there's
your camera right there, see it right in the corner.
There you go. So you're still doing this? Where do
people go to order and be able to get your goodies?

Speaker 5 (12:40):
Well, come on down to Richie's New York Corner Deli
located at two six South Court Street, Circleville, Ohio. Follow
us on Facebook and Instagram as well. Also just as
that heads up, sometimes you will see the deli will
be closed because I am either auditioning for something or
maybe in a film or at a film festival supporting
John Ralphandino and the film down to the Felt even

(13:02):
though I have a small part. My scene is only
a few minutes with me and Michael Weston going back
and forth, but you know it brings the film together.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
And Cinema Columbus is there the film festival. Is there
a website for it that people can go to.

Speaker 6 (13:14):
Yes, if you go to Cinema Columbus dot com, you
can find out information there and you can also again,
we might have some other tickets that will open up
that will be giving away. And that's down to the
Felt Movie on Facebook, down to the Felt Movie on Instagram,
down to the Feltmovie dot com.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Mindy Movies and te we had it off this segment, MICHAELA,
I loved it. You know what, Mikaylab will be able
to say, what day we knew you win, we knew
you knew you win.

Speaker 6 (13:39):
I know I'll be able to say that. I'll be
like Richie, will you please come and be in my
next movie?

Speaker 5 (13:43):
Right right?

Speaker 2 (13:44):
You'll be too big for everybody done.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
I never I would never be too big to come
hang out with you.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Indy and MICHAELA good.
