Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're having out here, Mikayla.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
It's always so exciting when we get to take the
radio set out on live remote locations.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
It is. And we have a.
Speaker 4 (00:08):
Beautiful pavilion here in Kaufman Park and underneath it some
really incredible raffle prizes.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
I can't get over these baskets.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Are they full of everything?
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Full of everything, stories, blankets, lovies, all the things and
what I think another twenty five minutes until they draw.
So people who are here or if you're nearby, come in.
I think you could really get a great basket.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Yeah, we are at this year's Dublin Pet Fair. It's free.
It's free.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
It started at noon, it goes till five, so there's
still plenty of time to come here, come out see
the booths, get free things. There's all kinds of treats,
great information. Maybe you have a question about a health
setthing that your dog or cat's going through, some type
of an issue.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
You can get those answers for free right here. So
much to do.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
This has been going on for thirteen years. One of
the most fun parts is the pet race.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
And we got to meet some contestants before they went
out there. To do it, and there's one sweetie that's
with us now.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
And they are the champions in the Big Dog pet race.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
So this is Axel, right, Yes, this is Axel. How
long have you had Axel?
Speaker 5 (01:15):
I have had Axel about two and a half years.
I got him when he was eight years old. I
actually owned his half brother.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
He's a wine renner, right.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Yes, he's a winerner.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yes, beautiful dog.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
Yeah, he loves to run, so obviously good time for him.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yes, So how did it go?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Did someone have to hold him? Is this because there
were seven contestants?
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Right?
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Yes, my son held him and then I was at
the end of the course and I just called to
Ree and he comes, he knows.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Maybe I could learn something from you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, because Mikayla's doc sins have been in pet races.
They did one really well the first time you did it, right, McKayla.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
It was the second one. We're like, oh, we're on
to something.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
And then today we raised them at an October fest
at the Crookad Cannes.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
They were DNF did not finish.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
So we have like calling treat Yes, markets feels like
you need to give a little nudge on the bottom
to get them going to do you.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Have to do that with Axel to do that at all.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
I don't use treat very often. It's only when I
really want him to come. He always gets a treat.
That's his forever recall command got so he will come
for that anywhere.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Well, we were.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Talking to doctor g before the pet races happened, and
she said, the whole goal is to just run straight
to the owner.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
But a lot of dogs Mikayla.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Get distracted and they don't want to go straight to
the owner because they see these other dogs and other
sites and sounds around them. So Axel was the champion.
But you're training Axel right now. This is such a
great program. Go ahead and tell everybody what you're training.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Him to do.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Axels and training. We're working on becoming a Butterfly pad.
Those are the therapy dogs a nationwide children. So we're
about halfway there. And he does listen well, so he
will run a straight line. He knows we have our
canine go citizens. So we're working on some more training.
So hopefully by the end of the year we'll have
all this done and he can have his little patch
(03:08):
that says Butterfly paw on it, and.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Then what happens?
Speaker 4 (03:11):
I think, have we seen these dogs when I've been
inside media children's I feel.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Like I have. Yes, you have. So what happens? You
get assigned a shift, just like a volunteer.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Yes, you do. They'd like you to come in a
couple of hours a week if at all possible, you know,
one or two hours a week to come in when
you can. Yes, what a great Yees, you know we're
excited about that.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
You guys are dog owners. We love our dogs.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Can you both imagine life without dogs or any animal?
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Never?
Speaker 5 (03:38):
Never? Yeah, they're part of your family.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
They just have so much to our lives.
Speaker 5 (03:43):
Yes, they do. They do, and they make your lives
more meaningful.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
They do, and they bring so much joy I think.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
I mean, we lost our last dog in August of
last year, and they really wanted to get a dog
so fast, right, mindy you remember this In October They're like,
We're ready. I'm like, I'm not ready. Early December we did,
and the joy just came back. It's like having two
toddlers in the house, which.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Is really great.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
When you have two teenagers in the house, you really
need to have toddlers for joy definitely.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
On the side of that. Randy and I became empty nesters.
Now Camie's temporarily living us with us right now, but
when we became empty nesters, I was such a hovering mom.
But it didn't bother me too too much because I
still have four dogs to take care of. It probably
bothers my dogs more. They're like, get away from me, mom,
Can I breathe a little bit? Because that's how I
(04:31):
was with my kids when they were home. But there
is a certain void there. In fact, coming up in
our five o'clock hour, we're going to talk to Ann
Hurst with open arms counseling and the mental aspect of
what a dog can bring to your life. They really
can lift spirits, and honestly, that's what so much of
America reads needs right now. Charlie Kirk's funeral is going on,
and the emotional impact that that man had on so
(04:53):
many lives, not just here in our country, but across
the world.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
A lot of people are hurting.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
They need a little dog, They need something to make
them feel just a little bit better about life.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
I'm so glad we got a chance to meet Axel.
Thank you for coming to the broadcasting.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
What did you win other than bragging rights? Of course,
she run a gift card.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Gift card.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Can get a lot of dog tret he does well.
Best of luck with a butterfly pop. All right, thank
you so much, thank you bye.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Did you learned some tips on that for next time
when you get your dogs in?
Speaker 4 (05:28):
I think I had the wrong treat with me today.
That's the problem. I don't know those two dogs. Who
knows the dogs is a different kind of dog. Oh
my gosh. I met a beautiful Italian greyhound over there
when I was walking in.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
An Italian what's the difference with a greyhound and an
Italian greyhount?
Speaker 1 (05:45):
They're little.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
They're not just called a mini greyhound, but they look
like a mini greyhound though. So he had like this
beautiful snout in ears that reminded me of Wriggly and Grace.
But like such a nice dog. He's I don't know
if he's still over there. He was sitting on his
I think it was a she. Actually she was sitting
on her throne. She was very happy. A great day
to come out and socialize your dogs too. I always
think that's an important thing. We're trying to do that
(06:07):
with our puppies right now.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I can't believe this event has been going on for
thirteen years and I've never known about it before. And
you know me, if it's free, it's me anything that's free.
But having the ability to be able to offer this
to Central Ohio for anybody just to walk up here,
there were so many different free handouts and treats and
gifts for.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
People, that's amazing.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
It is amazing.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
I think the part of me thinks that maybe it's
a little bit of the West Side mindy, so maybe
that is why you were not as familiar with it.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
But we both know doctor G. We've interviewed doctor G
over the years, and she.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Did I hear this correctly when I was driving in.
She took over this pet fair correct, Okay, And I
think that's amazing because what the Rascal Unit has done
for so long for Central Ohio has been so important.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Oh my gosh, for spaying and neutering. We're going to
talk to her right after the break. But it has
been fun, it's been a joy. It's been a pleasure
just to see so many dogs getting along. Like we
were talking earlier, there were no look at these two
just met their tails are wagging. Why can't people be
more like that? No matter what, I matter what color
these dogs are, you try to be more like that.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
I try to be more like that. Not everybody everybody
like that, But.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I imagine if we were more like dogs, if people
were more like dogs, Oh, this world be so much better.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
I mean, count the way as Mindy count the ways, right,
so many ways.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
We do have a lot coming up on the show.
We do have Anne Hirst.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
We love her, and we're going to talk to her
a little bit later in the five o'clock hour about
all the things that Mindy had mentioned earlier.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Right, and then we're going to keep interviewing people from
here and why. What's the main reason we invite animals
into our lives. They're not human, yet a lot of
us treat them like they are, and in most cases
they kind of act more human like than most humans.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Maybe we need that when we come home.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Maybe we need that. All right, this is what matters.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
We'll be right back here on six' TEN wtvn
